John was very forthright in his initial analysis of my roof. He indicated a possible range of price based on potential problems. In my case there was no way of knowing what the issues were without pulling up multiple rows of roof tiles to investigate. John was prompt with a return visit and brought me up on top to look at my roof after pulling 10 rows of tiles up and explain what had happened to make the leaks (mesquite tree leaves and dust collected under the roof tiles near the valleys to form lakes of muddy water. This rotted the wood). We agreed on a day to start the work and he was perfectly professional. As he worked along throughout the day he explained where money should be spent and where it could be saved. I had three fist sized areas that were rotted through in between valleys. John replaced the wood plus underlayment, repaired broken tiles, and set everything in place over a couple of days. The roof has not leaked since. I am very pleased with the service and would recommend his company to my neighbors.

Excellent - very knowledgeable and friendly. He picked up right away and we talked for almost 10m, with him ultimately recommending I do work myself (which I'm capable of) to save money. Was quick to return call and was able to work us in, everyone was busy after a rather sever storm a few days before, He came by the house and gave a reasonable quote and explained I could keep the costs down by finding matching replacement tiles myself. He even told me a very good and inexpensive place to find what I was looking for. While doing the repair, a few other loose tiles were identified and he secured them as well for the same price. Good value for a good price.

When I called, he was in the area so he came to my house within a couple of hours. After looking at my roof he declined the job since he didn't have the needed equipment but he spent time explaining the options of what the roof needed and what to be aware of when fixing or re-roofing a tile roof. I appreciate his honest assessment.

John Loker identified two possible sources of a small leak, one around a scupper and the other some stucco cracks next to a window. He sealed both. No rain to test this repair yet, but other repairs he has done in the past have all proved effective in the last heavy downpour.

The owner came out and toured the roof. He was very kind but he declined to bid. He spent a lot of time teaching me about what to look for and how to select a roofer. I really appreciated his kindness and generosity of his time even though he was declining to bid, he preferred to do smaller repairs rather than a big job like we had. He had work lined up in the queue so there would have been a longer wait. This man appeared honest.

We had several small leaks in our flat roof which showed up as stains in the ceiling. John identified the sources with a high degree of confidence as leaks around scuppers and a crack in the parapet. He has experience with a number of sealant products and special orders one that he has found superior to more readily available products and uses it to maximize the duration of the repair. John was the second estimate we obtained and provided the estimate on the spot. In addition to being significantly lower cost than the first estimate, I had higher confidence in his understanding of the problem than the first roofer (who was also highly rated on Angie?s list), and the first roofer also took several weeks and some goading to provide the estimate. When the work took less time than John initially expected, he let me know this and charged less than the estimate. I like the fact that John works on his own and does all of the roof inspection, estimating, maintenance, and repair himself. You don?t have the situation where you have an estimator that seems good but then a crew comes out that gives you less confidence, doesn?t do what you expected, can?t communicate, seems in a rush to finish and leave, etc. Because he does all the work himself, it did take several weeks to get to our roof, and he wasn't able to give me a fixed date until the day before the repair, but for me this was not an issue. He takes his time to explain the work and communicates clearly, and provides followup on his findings after the repair. I can?t comment on the effectiveness of the repair at this time as there has been no rain. John also provides yearly inspection services at a nominal rate to keep on top of any roof issues. I plan on using him for my yearly inspection and maintenance in the future, as based on what I have seen so far I feel John will take care of my roof effectively, honestly, and at reasonable cost.

I contacted Mr. Loker based upon the positive reviews he received on Angie's list. I asked him to come out to my home and bid a recoating job on my flat roof. I wasn't able to meet him when he came out to do his estimate, and the only sign that he had been there was a sliver of foam that had blistered and would need to be repaired. No paperwork. No estimate. No message on my phone. Nothing. I finally called him back several days later and asked if he was going to come out and do the estimate. At first, he had no idea who I was. Finally, he did remember, but said he was currently working on a roof and did not have his notes. I asked him, "You can't give me a ballpark figure of where we're at?" He said, "No..." I would have to wait for him to get home so he could review his notes. He assured me he would be calling me that evening. That night, I received no call from him. The following day, he called me at work, apologizing for not calling me the evening before as he had promised, and gave me his quote at $3800. I told him I thought the price was a bit steep, and let him know I would be seeking bids from other contractors. He assured me his price was very competitive, and he only used some extremely expensive roof coating from a company in CA (sorry, the name escapes me), and that he worked his bid at $1 per square foot (my home is only 1840 sq ft and the garage adds another 400 so I don't know how he came to that figure). So I thought to myself, "Well, he's a bit expensive, but he comes highly recommended on Angie's List, and I want the work done right so I guess we'll go ahead." I said, "OK John, I'll use you, but I'm just going to tell you what I'm expecting to see when you're done..." At that point he interrupted me and said, "We're not going to start this off with you telling me what you expect from me. I don't need the work that bad..." I responded, "Then I guess we're done here." He said, "This is what I'll do for the price I quoted you..." It was my turn to interrupt him. I said, "No John, you don't need that job that bad, remember?" We ended the conversation at that point. John Loker may be a highly talented roofer with scads of experience and a track record of doing the job right....but I'm just going to say it the way it is - the man has about as much interpersonal communication skills as a pit bull, and has that typical East Coast chip on his shoulder. So if you don't mind being told what you're going to get whether you like it or not, go with John. If you want someone who is going to listen to your concerns, and ensure he understands what you are wanting and expecting, I'd steer clear of John Loker.

John Locker, the owner, was very responsive coming out after I called regarding some leaks discovered during this past monsoon season. He surveyed the entire roof, provided a fair quote and was available to commence work within one week. At all times he and his crew were professional, punctual and cleaned up their work site each night before they left. John found additional areas that needed attention after some large overhanging mesquite branches were cut out of the way and he removed some drain screens. He took care of them and honored his original quote even though I offered to pay extra. I am recommending John to some close friends.

John explained in detail what he was going to do. He gave me a price estimate and timeframe. He removed the tiles and showed me where the water was coming in. He repaired some rotten wood and put new material over that. He then corrected the condition that was causing the leak and replaced the tiles. His final price was in line with his estimate.

John came out, discussed with me where leak was on my roof, then told me the best way to go forward. A week later he came out and spent approx one hour on roof fixing problem. When he finished, he showed me what he had done. Everything looks great.

Very well! The owner knows roofing, is a professional and candid about what needs to be done to correct the problem.

John Locker was on time and reasonably priced. The work took three days, John was on the job early and stayed late. Very professional!

My roof needed somewhat extensive repair and John completed it within the range of his original estimate.

Responded promptly to my call after we received third rain storm of the season. He prepared a bid after explaining what he would do, why he was doing it, and provided a timeline for starting and completing the job. Only delay was due to another storm, but only for a couple of days. He was on time each day, left no mess, and kept me posted on progress. After completion of job, he walked the roof to show me the work done. In addition to providing a two year warranty on all work, he will check roof each year for any potential issues. Lastly, he felt that one of my leak issues was a window above the patio roof line. He came out on Sunday and spent a couple of hours water testing the window to determine if/where it was leaking. After it was determined that it was leaking, he has sealed the leaking area in hope that it will fix my problem(not his problem since it is not the roof). When I tried to pay him, he said "no and that he just wanted to make sure it wasn't roof". I interviewed four roofers prior to selecting American Roof Repair...I made the right decision.

During the last big rainstorm we had water running thru our ceiling onto the hard wood floor in our front living room. I called John and he came out that day and told us what we should do to prevent further damage to our ceiling. He then came and removed tiles to find the source of the leak, removed the underlayment, got it down to the wood and repaired the area. John kept us informed of what he found wrong and how he was going to fix it. We even crawled up the ladder so he could show us what he was doing. He was very prompt, professional and fair in his pricing. I will definitely use American Roof Repair - AZ again.

John, had left message and said he would call back, but never did. I felt like they didn't need the business or have a sense of urgency.

It went well. American Roof showed up on time and completed the job. We're waiting for the next rain, hopefully with no leak!

I called the company 5 to 6 times over 7 days. Each time the owner answered and gave me a date but no time for an estimate, he each time said that he would call me back in 20 minutes with an estimated time for his initial visit. He never! called back! So I went to my follow Realtors for a referral. I was very disappointed with the contractor and Angie's list.

John explained the roof repair job very carefully. We discussed various options. We decided on a course of action. He started the job before his estimated start date and completed ahead of schedule. The workmen were neat and cleaned up after themselves. They did more work than originally quoted but still came within budget. I was very satisfied! I recommend John and his crew.
