Description of Work: The packers came first; they were polite, convivial, and efficient. They took care to keep things organized and out of our way. The mover's were the same. On the arriving end, they had all our furniture in and assembled in one (long - we have a lot of stuff) day. We're ten days out and have found nothing missing or damaged but they said we have nine months to report anything missing or broken. We definitely would use them again.

Our interactions with the estimator were initially quite good. He suggested ways to cut down on moving costs, and even brought us used boxes. The truck arrived on the date requested. Loading experience: We did much of the work by ensuring that the only items which needed to be brought down stairs were three mattresses, two twin box springs, and a bureau. Everything else was stacked in a garage that was about 50 feet on level ground from the door of the moving truck. Nevertheless, the process took from 8am until almost 5pm, which seems rather slow compared to previous moving experiences Once we arrived, we found that NONE of our mattresses had been boxed or protected. There were dark stains and footprints on all of them. Nevertheless, we were charged for supplies to package the mattresses. On unloading, we found the the loading team did not tag or inventory at least 45 items, including furniture and a propane grill. There were two other loads on the truck when it arrived at our home. Because of miscalculation on North American's part, there was not sufficient room on the truck for our items. Another truck was sent to retrieve these. We were not aware that these would not arrive at the same time as the rest of our items. As of June 18, they are still in storage in Arizona, and we have not been given a reliable date of delivery. We also did not have an opportunity to decide which items should arrive later, so there are some essential items that we have not received. While it is nice to have our snowblower in June, we would have chosen to have the lawnmower. We have our Christmas items, but not our childrens' bikes. We could have done a much better job of getting the items we needed if we had been able to participate in the process of organizing the shipment. En route experience: We were told that we would receive a call on the day of loading to advise us about the actual weight of the truck and how much we would have to pay upon delivery. our load out was on a Friday. We did finally receive a call on Monday, while driving cross country, advising us that the driver had stated our weight as 2000 pounds over the estimate. The rep from North American that we spoke with stated that they thought that the driver might be possibly intentionally overstating the weight. No one at North American offered to mediate this or to help in any way. we were told that we could demand a re-weigh. We received a number of comments such as "I'm sorry that this happened", but we were clearly on our own in terms of resolving this issue. Unloading experience: We had to meet the driver at a weighing station both before and after the unloading. During the unloading, the driver demanded that we pay the entire amount of HIS initial weight (which was incorrect). It was only after several phone calls to North American, that we were able to get him to accept the agreed upon payment of 110% of the estimated costs. Because we had only prepared a bank check for part of the payment, we had to make two trips to the bank on the day of the move to obtain the cash to release our load. We also had to pay the costs of weighing the truck twice. Local unloading team was courteous and did a good job. As it turns out, the actual weight of our shipment was very close to the original estimate. We did not receive an explanation from the driver about why he initially reported a weight of 2000 pounds more. The driver had received our payment prior to completing the second weigh-in, so it was clear that we had paid more to him than was due. We asked for a receipt so we could them ask North American for a refund on the overpayment, and he told us that he was unable to give us a receipt for our bank check plus cash. After move experience: It has been five days since our move. We still have no idea when our other items will leave Arizona, let alone arrive here. Each interaction with North American takes multiple phone calls and re-routings in order to find someone who can help us. We have been told that we can receive $200 to compensate us for having to now buy some of the items which are still in storage. We can fill out more paperwork to ask for compensation for items damaged in shipment. There has been no attempt to remedy the inconvenience of the split and delayed shipment or the weighing discrepancy. I have moved cross-country four times, and have moved at least six times. This is the most unprofessional moving company that I have ever worked with. The minute that there was a problem, we felt that there was no one available to help or follow up on the situation. I was stunned that they would accuse one of their drivers of fraud, yet do nothing to assist a customer whose belongings he was transporting. The quality of the move itself was sloppy, to put it mildly. I would not recommend McWhite's North American for any type of moving, but particularly not for an interstate move. The customer service was polite but completely ineffective.
Description of Work: Family move from Flagstaff, AZ, to Burlington, VT. We did all the packing. North American loaded the truck, transported, and unloaded, Weight of all items was approximately 8000 pounds.

They did a stupendous job packing the belongings. They have been really friendly, efficient, and easy to work with. Mike packed everything and loaded everything, by himself, all within about 5 hours and did a phenomenal job. The price seems very reasonable for all of the work that he did and to transport the items over this distance.
Description of Work: They moved my mother in laws belongs from Prescott AZ to the Denver area.
