I have had many customer service issues and was very disappointed with Vertex Roofing!! They are horrible at returning emails/phone calls and keeping customers updated. I ended up with a color roof that I did not select!!!!!! I was told they no longer had the color I chose, but instead of coming back and asking me, they chose another color for me on their own. It is supposedly a higher grade material, although I have not received any paperwork to that effect. Here are some of the other issues --After I signed the contract I received an email that said that I would be notified when my materials came in, which I was not. --When I developed a leak around the ceiling fan in my dining room in August, it took me two phone calls and two emails to get a response. That response did not include any offers of assistance to temporarily fix the problem. I was just told August 14th that I would be up the end of the next week or the beginning of the following. The Production Manager said that he would be out to look at the job site, which to my knowledge never occurred. --The next few weeks were very stressful as it was raining almost every day and I was worried about more leaking. I finally called on the 23rd to see if I could get an update, since no one had been out and I didn't even know if all my materials were in. -- Production Manager called Friday 24th to say a crew would be out early Monday and he would email me the specifics. I never received an email. --The crew did a good job and worked around the dogs by not going in the back yard. However, Thursday when they left they said they would be returning the next day. I work from home, so I moved a few meetings from Friday morning to Tuesday morning in case of noise. No one showed up or called until around 1 pm, the Production Manager called to say they would be back Saturday morning to finish. --Finished as promised Saturday, but I had a standing volunteer engagement and was not here when they left. I was expecting to be left care instructions and warranty information, which I never received. --One last customer service oddity was that no one in the company that I tried to contact who has a cell phone had their voice mail set up with a message confirming their name and that they are a Vertex Roofing employee. The generic you have reached ###-###-####, did not fill me with confidence that I even had the right number. All of these issues were addressed with an apology and 1.25% discount off the price, which is not a lot, but I just wanted to be done with all the hassle. Unfortunately there is a part II to the saga. I never received a final receipt from the last payment (made over the phone) or the warranty information that was supposed to come from the manufacturer. I also did not approve my two raised air roof vents and whirlybird to be removed from my roof. In fact part of the sales pitch was for an extra $10,000 I could get a raised roof line with increased air vents all along the top to save energy. I did not have the additional money for that, but the sales representative thought it would be fine with my existing vents. The contract specifies anything on the roof that will be removed and not returned, such as the satellite dish. Existing vents were not to be removed. Again it took an email and a phone call before I got a response from the Branch Manager on the vent issue (not on the receipt or warranty issues, which I did not get a response). He said he thought some existing slates/vents on the side of my house would be fine and the other vents were not needed. This contradicts the sales representative and all of my neighbors who have many vents and whirlybirds on their roofs. The Branch Manager did try to stop by once, but I was in a meeting (work from home). Since that visit I have left a voice mail and sent two emails. Ugh. Not sure why I have to argue when the contract clearly does not say they can remove my existing vents. Update a new whirly bird was installed and I got a blurry electronic copy of the warranty. I am still very unhappy with the roof color!

Response from Vertex Metal Roofing
We have no emails from you since 12/2018 & of the ones we have, we always responded. The production manager did stop out. Your original roof order was for a 26 GA roof in a silver color. You knowingly opted for a lower grade roof to save money. When the silver color was unavailable, we did have to make an adjustment. If that was not conveyed by your consultant then I again apologize, just as I did in 2018. The adjustment UPGRADED your roof to a thicker gauge, better finish & only 1 shade darker. Of course, we did these upgrades at no cost to you but thousands of dollars more for us as we felt that was the right thing to do. You were provided paperwork including warranties years ago. You emailed us on 7/17/18 stating "XXXX had mentioned August as a possibility for getting my new roof. I am not in any hurry, but wanted to check in to see if that is still the plan." Our same day reply: "Hi [Member Name Removed]. August is looking like it will be the month for your roof. Based on the installations we have just before yours I would expect it to be maybe the middle to end of the month for your job." You emailed again on 8/11 stating "I wasn't in a hurry for our new roof, but last night with all that rain we have developed a small leak. We went in the attic and the board under the roof is rotting in several spots. Definitely the sooner that you can come out the better." A SMALL LEAK. We installed your roof later that month, as promised. Our installers removed old improperly set up vents. You didn't want to pay for better options so the next best thing was done. In an email on 11/16/18 & a 30+ minute phone conversation I explained why the previous roof vents were not correct. You again refer to your neighbors which I already discussed 2 years ago as an improper comparison because of completely different roof styles. You never had to argue for a vent. From the start I let you know we would be happy to do that (which we promptly did). I wanted you to have correct information (which you ignored) for an informed decision.

John Roper represented his company Vertex Roofing very well. His knowledge of standing seam metal roofing is beyond compare--other roofers simply came out with metal samples and claimed to "know how to install all kinds of roofs". John, however, knows every nuance of metal roofing--from materials, to install details, to environmental pros/cons and comparisons to asphalt shingle. He can talk metal roofing for hours--and still have more info to share via email. Given metal roofing is an expensive endeavor--a prospective client needs an informative person to take them through the process. John's install crew led by Doug was on time and very professional. They worked in oppressive heat--over 5 days--and created a beautiful roof. Even when the metal arrived with a slightly different width--the seams worked out fine and exactly as John predicted. John also helped me choose a metal fascia with a contrasting color to wrap my wood roof underhangs, negating the need to ever paint those wood areas agin. The net effect is a professionally designed roof-- on a relatively small house (1400 square feet) which, given the color choice (light brown)--blends well with the neighborhood. (All other roofs are asphalt shingle). My standing seam roof will last for 25-30 years--yes, the price is easily double that of typical asphalt shingle, but my energy savings and lack of needing a new roof will pay for itself down the road. John also referred a gutter installer--that project happens soon with matching metal gutters.
Description of Work: Vertex Roofing/John Roper completed 2 thorough bids---complete with reviewing their own powerpoint--answered all my questions about metal roofing and far exceeded my other 4 bidding companies with their sheer expertise in the field. Vertex Roofing knows metal roofing--because that's their specialty--Don't be fooled by other roofers who claim they can install a quality metal roof--if they also install tile, asphalt, et cet--Metal roofing is unique and required specialized installation. You want a company with extensive experience with this material--because if metal is installed wrong--it is an expensive headache to repair --with an expensive replacement of a metal roof as a strong possibility. I could not be happier with my standing seam roof-- it was built to last.
