HORRIBLE. Rude nonresponsive and won't fix poor workmanship

They midsized the front window and would not remedy. It is just the way it goes. They told me they messed up and a replacement was on its way after 6 months. Never delivered. They ripped the drywall because their installer didn't bother to cut in on old chalk and just ripped it off the wall and everything going that was attached. The doors weren't cut even so they were going to replace and never did. They came up with a lot of excuses. Moving offices,tech problem, people sick,Yada Yada. In the end because I used amex they were able to mediate meaning shutter crafters didn't respond. There is a time limit for disputes and you will find other reviews that show the length of time 4 to 6 months. If you dont start a dispute after 3 months with some credit cards you may be out of luck. We used this company on two other homes 5 and 10 years ago. They have gone totally into the bottom of the barrel and was really really disappointed. Scott was a nice guy but failed us miserably. I would not recommend this company. Pay a little more and go elsewhere

We had two different homes. My husband had all windows done in his prior home by Scott with Shutter Crafters many years ago. Several years ago we decided to do 20 windows in our new home with shutters and loved the z style with a deco type frame which matched our baseboards we went with the company again. The price was super competitive and being someone that most contractors call very picky this was a job that I have had not any issues with. We all remember the bad not the good. We just had all our windows replaced and two doors. The shutters from the old doors no longer fit and we had one large window that had a boxy type design so we decided to call the Shutter Crafters to create shutters for the new doors and the last window in the front so everything matches. We are waiting on the last order for the two door and one window but as I looked at the other reviews I was very very surprised. The experience we had was nothing like the other ones described as negative and Scott was terrific and the shutters have held up well and the company has been responsive. Hopefully our last order and install will be as good as the last two rounds.

When we purchased our home we asked the buyers for the name of the vendor who installed the existing shutters. Upon receiving Shutter Crafters as the vendor name, I called them and spoke to Amber. I told her, clearly and concisely, that we just bought the home and wanted to add matching shutters. I provided her with the prior owner?s name. She looked up their order and confirmed to me verbally, that she found the prior owners order and that providing matching shutters would be no problem. She sent Scott out to measure. When Scott was here both my husband and I verbally confirmed with him again that he had the prior owner?s info to match our order. He mentioned he did have that in the office with Amber. We were very clear on the need to match the shutters as they would be in the same room as the existing shutters. (Same wood, etc.) We showed Scott a number of competitor discount coupons for 25% off and asked him if he would match these discounts. He said yes. (We regularly get offerings in the mail for 25% shutters.) When the blinds were installed, we noticed a huge color mismatch and contacted Amber. She told us they were having issues with Scott specific to matching colors and assured me they would come out and take care of it. A manager, who arrived one hour early, causing us to scramble, arrived and was belligerent and unprofessional from the get go. He looked at the existing blinds, investigated the paint code on them and said Scott had in fact got the wrong color. We showed him the paint can color and he said this was a color they stocked and could repaint at their cost. He said he did not want to remove/re-do the $600 shutter in our kitchen as it ?may? damage our walls to remove it and he wouldn?t pay for the damage. Given this, and the fact that this shutter only had a small area of surrounding trim, combined with the refusal on his part to fix any potential damage, we agreed. The company has refused to repaint the $600 shutter or provide us with a monetary credit and has been unprofessional to deal with. The bottom line is this mistake rests firmly in their court and they should fix it. The reality is this company choses to ?reversion? the truth. Unfortunately, we?re out $600. This company has multiple complaints on yelp and w/the BBB. I would never use them or refer them.

This was a frustrating experience from starts to finish. The shutters were made incorrectly as we were specific in two emails about not wanting control rods. When they arrived they were scratched and gouged and had to be returned for refinishing. The shutters were measured incorrectly and when installed required major cutting on the interior frames. The installers actually wanted to cut the exterior trim to make the shutters fit. One of the shutters was made upside down and had to be removed after installation for repair. Because of all the problems Shutter Crafters agreed to refund $500 on the final payment but still charged us the full price before the job was completed. After many phone calls and no return phone calls they agreed to send us a check for $500 to avoid a chargeback on our credit card. We are waiting for the final shutter to be repaired and installed.The upside down shutter was installed and seems okay. We had the installer adjust the shutters as there was a lot of light leakage. This caused the mechanisms to stiffen up but hopefully they will loosen over time. If you use Shutter Crafters ensure that one of the owners inspects the shutters before delivery and installation. You absolutely must stay on top of things. If you purchase from this company use a reputable credit card so that you have an avenue for dispute. The shutters look very nice by the way.

Horrible experience from start to finish to years later I would avoid this company and never do business with them. When I initially bought the shutters, I thought that by spending >$15k I would at least be treated with common courtesy and professionalism, boy was I wrong. After agreeing on the shutters and price, I was given an install date. The company missed the first three install dates, and when they finally showed up, the installers didn't speak English well enough to even communicate with them. Since having the install done, at least half of them magnets that hold the shutters in place have broken because they use cheap plastic that is insufficient to withstand the heat of the AZ sun. I recently had a window in my home break, and when I got two different glass estimates, I was told that the shutters would have to be removed to replace the window. Both glass companies said that they hadn't ever seen such a poorly designed shutter that is inset so far from the inner frame. When I called Shuttercrafters about this, the receptionist took my information and said she'd call me back the same day to schedule a time to come out and remove the shutter. A week later when I hadn't heard anything I called back she said she was just about to call me (yeah right), but she didn't know when she could put me on the schedule and that it would cost $150 to remove and then rehang the shutter. When I informed her and the manager that if they had told me before I bought the shutters that I would have to pay to remove them whenever I needed to replace a window that I never would have purchased from them, they both said that they were only obligated to warranty the product and anything else was my problem. They clearly don't have the first clue about customer service or ethical obligations of full disclosure. I'm just going to have to write this one off as a bad deal from a bad company, and hope that others don't make the same mistake as I did. Their quality and customer service are equally poor. Take a look at their record (including the complaints and suspension from the AZ Registry of Contractors). The bond they hold wouldn't cover 1/5 of the work they did for me either. The company just doesn't have a clue how to do business.

They were fine. They had to come back because there was something that I did not like and they fixed it. They were quick to come back when I asked them to do so. They did a good job.

We used this company to install window shutters on every window in our home (3,000 square feet), except two windows. One of the shutters on one of our bathroom windows has come detached on both sides of the frame. On July 15, 2010, I telephoned this company to see about having the shutter repaired. I received the companies answering machine and I left a message. On Monday, July 19, 2010, I still had not received a call back so I called the company again. I asked the women who answered the phone about having someone come out and fix the shutter. The women indicated she received my message from the answering machine and would have to call me back to check the schedule. On July 22, 2010, the women from this company called me back and said they had no record of installing shutters in our home. I retrieved my paperwork and gave her, names, dates, and times of when all the shutters had been installed in our home. She said she would have to call me back. On July 22, 2010, the woman from this company called me back and indicated that she would have to check the schedule and see when they could have someone come out and fix the shutter. She indicated that it would probably be a couple of weeks. On July 23, 2010, the woman from this company called and said someone could come out "Thursday August 5 between 12:00 and 2:00". I indicated this would be fine. On August 5, 2010, between the hours of 12:00 and 2:00, no one showed up. At 2:08 I had to leave to pick up my kids from school. As I was leaving my home, I telephoned this company and told the woman that no one had shown up and that I had to leave to pick my kids up from school. The woman indicated that the repairman was at my home. I indicated I was just leaving and he was not there as I was pulling out of my driveway. At 2:15, the woman indicated he was there. I explained to the woman that's fine, but I am gone and have to pick up my children from school and that I would not be back for a few hours. I indicated to the woman that it would have been nice to have received a courtesy call indicated he was going to be late. If this would have been the case I would have made other arrangements. The women indicated that he was busy with other customers. I told the woman I understood this, however, I had to leave to pick up my children from school. The woman then said she did not remember putting me on the schedule or our conversations. The woman also said she did not tell me he would be at my home between 12:00 and 2:00. The woman said she always schedules between 12:00 and 4:00 and that's what she told me. I told the woman she did not tell me between 12:00 and 4:00 when I spoke with her because if she had I would have told her that I could not do it then because I have to pick my kids up from school. The woman indicated she did not know when she could put me on the schedule to have the shutter repaired. I asked her how do you not know when you can put me on the schedule. She did not answer. I told the woman never mind and that I would find someone else to repair the shutter. The woman said they can repair the shutter, which I am aware of, but that she did not know when she could put me on the schedule. Again, I told the woman never mind and that I would get some one else to repair the shutter.

We had used Shutter Crafters a few years ago to install shutters in our old house, so we were comfortable calling them again to make shutters for a three windows in our new house. They sent a rep out to take measurements and give us an estimate. Shutters are not cheap, but I think the prices at Shutter Crafters are very reasonable. The rep helped us make sure we matched the style and color of the shutters that were already in other rooms. The shutters were installed within the promised time frame and looked good and fit well. Our in-laws also used Shutter Crafters and were happy with the service as well.

We took note that Shutter Crafters was a family owned business and everything they did was very good. We really have no problems to report with the sales or people that we had dealt with.
