Shasta Pools & Spas

In the early Fall of 2018 we started talking to Shasta Industries about putting a small pool and fire pit in the backyard of our home in Scottsdale, AZ. We finally agreed to a contract on November 9, 2018. Four days later, we selected the pool colors and on December 11, the layout plan was completed. It took another four weeks to get the final plans that were submitted to our homeowners association. The HOA approved the plans on January 17, 2019. After that date, I tried numerous times to get Shasta to give me a construction start date. After three frustrating weeks with no start date, I wrote the President of Shasta Industries on February 8. I received no reply. On February 12, I received an email from Shasta indicating that construction would start the week of February 18 or, at the latest, the following week. On February 14, I met with Shasta and they asked me to again approve the plan including color selections. On February 23, I received a text from Shasta indicating construction could start the week of the 25th. Needless to say, construction did not start and I never received a date when it would. Five months after initial talks and I never received an idea when, or if, construction would start. After yet another heated conversation with Shasta, I was asked if I would like to get out of the contract. I agreed and the deposit of $500 was refunded a month later. My relationship with Shasta from the very beginning was a series of miscommunications, mistakes, and a lack of a sense of urgency. I subsequently contacted another pool company and they started construction less than three weeks later and have made steady progress since. I don’t know the reasons behind their inability to start construction. I could not under any circumstances recommend Shasta Industries for anyone looking to build a pool. “The Shasta Experience” they tout on their web site was not a good one.

They installed a really nice pool motor (pump). I also got a 5 year warranty. However, I was not able to open the filter canister it was on so tight. I scraped the side of my arm trying to open it (it's supposed to be hand tight). Then when I tried to close it, it was impossible to get the 2 notches to line up. So I called Shasta Service center. I thought I could get some advice on how to fix my problem with the canister, maybe have someone come out for free since I have a 5 year warranty and I got the unit installed just a few weeks ago. The person I talked to could only tell me to set up an appointment at $79. Why do I have to pay if I have a warranty? Plus, why do I have to pay if it's clearly an installation problem. The lady I spoke to just kept saying that it was probably something I was doing wrong, like too much pressure or something. I like my unit, it's a really nice model, but I'm just disappointed that I don't get support less than 30 days after installation.

I hired Shasta but I ended up dealing with another contractor. They are extremely lousy. I did not realize that I was going to have to deal with another company. The next day, I ended up with the contractor and gives me a quote for doing the deck. I have a round thing around the pool that has to be cut. So, he quoted me for that and to do the whole thing. When I got the quote from them, I am getting a quote for 14,000. We found out that Shasta wants to do part of it. They want to remove the round thing and do their own travertine. So, we had to go to pick up some tiles and it was 6,000. So I told Mulin that it is part of their quote so I am getting double quoted here.

I requested a quote from them the last week of January. They came to my house on Feb 5th to do a survey of the pool. The consultant (jay Taylor) told me he would get back to me by the end of the week. He did not. I called Mr Taylor on Feb 14th to ask where my quote was. He told me he needed to get his tile guy out to the house and he couldn't get him scheduled. He said he would call me back right away with the date and time they would come out. He did not call back. I called him back on the 15th and he said he would be out on the 18th. He and his tile guy came out on the 18th (I think) and he said he would need to get his contractor out (he would do it by Friday that week) and then he could give me a quote. He did not come out in Friday. I called him on Monday the 25th - he said he'd call me right back with when they would be out. I didn't hear from him for a week. They finally came out the 7th of March and again said he'd have a quote to me by the end of the week. It's March 12th ... still no quote. I won't do business with a company that can't even communicate with me when they are competing for my business!

Shasta did a great job, but needed supervision to get the pool done exactly as we wanted it done. They have been extremely service oriented, immediately replacing the pump when the first one failed. They have had the Pebble-tec folks out and mandated repairs to the finish when some small patches of discoloration appeared in the finish. I would recommend them anytime, as they have been responsive and professional throughout the installation process and the after installation follow through has been great too.

I was really disappointed with them. It took them a week to get out here. He got out here on February 4th and he has been promising me a quote ever since and I still don't have it. I call them once a week and he just apologizes for not communicating and told us he will do what he is supposed to do. He has been out three times and he can't seem to get me a quote. He always says that he has to do something else before he can get me a quote and then he doesn't do it. Frankly, if they got me a quote today, I still wouldn't use them. The way that they acted now, I don't think I could trust their workmanship.

A variety of bad issues have developed during the time since the original remodel. We made several calls that have not been returned by their staff. There is no way I want to deal with them again.
