Description of Work: I unfortunately had a/c work that needed to be done 2 times in July in Texas. While the a/c was not working in 100+ weather, it took them over a week to get a contractor to my house and approve the repair. Both projects needed parts, and the contractors cannot order the parts before the repair was approved. After calling multiple times, they seemed to have no way to expedite the process (or were unwilling to do so). The contractors were not transparent, nor was the home warranty company itself during the process of diagnosis or approval, leaving me wondering if they’d repair it at all or if I was wasting my time. I can only imagine how slowly they’d treat an active leak...

We put warranty on our home last March and renewed it this month. We have another home and we bought warranty for that too in February. We have had a few clients and everything has been handled very well. We pay $55 deductable every time they come up. They seem to have good people as their contractor to do the job that needs to be done. If you have a pool, they charge extra $150. They are very efficient. When you call them, they take care of business the same day. I would use their services again in the future.

We picked this company because of the reviews on Angie's List. We bought a new home and had to choose a home warranty company. The warranty covers anything in the home from appliances to the pool. It also covers odd things that might happen. Our refrigerator wasn't working and they were taking longer than they should have to respond after I talked with them. I called the manager and the problem was resolved immediately. I was really impressed. They came out and looked at it the next day. When you have kids in the house you need the refrigerator to be working! They replaced the refrigerator and I am very happy.

Our realtor provided a few names of home warranty companies, but no matter which site we went to they averaged D and F ratings. I thought it pointless to have the sellers pay for a warranty that was useless. However, OneGuard did have solid ratings, although not a lot of ratings. The assistant at the realty company we used had never heard of them (the person in charge of our closing had heard of them, and all comments were positive). Each time we called they answered the call immediately, were friendly, professional and informed us that x company would contact us within 24 hours to set up an appointment. Each company they sent contacted us immediately, showed up as scheduled, cleaned up after themselves and were professional, friendly, and efficient. It is the only warranty company that I looked at that offers the re-keying service for new homeowners -- how nice is that. We could not be more happy with OneGuard and highly recommend them.
Description of Work: The sllers of the house we purchased offered to pay up to $250 for a one-year home warranty. We selected the "Essential" plan and optional additional coverage for the garage door opener. Both came to $429, which the seller paid at closing. The deductable is $59. We've been in the house not quite a month. The first thing we used was their re-key service. They came out immediately and re-keyed our locks (it covers up to 6 locks -- we had 3). The next was for a special they were running -- furnance tune-up, etc. for $59 and $30 for add'l furnaces (we have two). The third time was just this week for a new bake element for our upper oven that burned out.

Overall it went awful. I could tell within the first 5 minutes what this company was up to. Don't buy a home warranty from One-Guard.
Description of Work: One Guard Warranty are crooks! I purchased a home around May 24, 2011. We were in the process of having the home leveled when the foundation contractors had to excavate under the home. What they found buried 1.5 - 2.0 feet deep was sewer pipe that was broken in several places. Not only sewer pipe but a water leak in the galvanized supply pipes in the kitchen. I called - they sent some guy out from another company - he was late and demanded the $59.00 before he would come one foot closer. He had a tiny light he took under the house. I kept asking about the water leak in the kitchen. He never even looked. The water leak in the kitchen was discovered after the foundation contractors took out about 2.5-3.0 feet of dirt under the kitchen area. All the dirt was compacted around the galvanized pipes and holding in the water. They refused to pay. There is a clause in the contract which states they will pay for NO FAULT COVERAGE - which reads: COVERED: This residential service contract covers breakdowns caused by unknown pre-existing conditions such as 1) insufficiently maintained systems, 2) rust or corrision, 3) mismatched systems, and 4) improper installation or repair so long as the mechanical failure was not known, would not have been detectable by a state certified home inspection or OneGuard mechanical inspection, and was not caused the the contract holder. NOTE: The No Fault Coverage is intended to cover unknown pre-existing conditions caused by the previous owner. - Read on the website for further information. Number one, the representative I spoke with on the phone claimed that pre-existing conditions were NOT covered. I read to them what was in their own contract. This company has more exclusions in their contract than any home warranty company I have ever dealt with. Notice: You, the Buyer, have other rights and remedies under the Texas Deceptive Trade Practices... which I fully intend to pursue. This company will find a way to void any problem a homeowner finds and especially under the NO FAULT COVERAGE - they completely disregarded that clause. It was not my choice to go with the company at closing - the real estate commission must have a large kickback from them! I want my $59.00 back was the servisce company did absolutely nothing about the water leak in the kitchen - didn't even look at it. Looked under the house - called his company - which in turn they called One Guard and told me on the spot they would not cover anything.

The service sent out a contractor the same week ans serviced the A/C. The serviceman found some additional problems which were not covered by the warranty but I knew when I bought the home it had suffered some neglect. The price was reasonable and the fixed the problems on the spot.

I called Service One in the morning and they had a plumber at the house with a water heater the same day. I did not even have to go to the house, they worked with the tenant and it was done in a matter of hours.
Description of Work: I use Service One for several rental properties. They have replaced 2 water heaters this year. The plumbing companies that they used were quick, efficient and professional. The Service One staff is always helpful and professional. I hate paying for a warranty every year, but I have replaced water heaters and dishwashers with no argument from the company, which makes it less painful. Most importantly, I know who to call when I have a problem.

Overall our experience with the repairs and coverage was good. One Guard covered everything that needed to be fixed in the year that we had the service. However, we received a letter from One Guard a month before our renewal stating that they could not renew our policy because of the amount of claims we filed.

We had a disagreement with ServiceOne if the warranty covered the water heather. Angie's List, through their resolution process, helped us and the work was covered by ServiceOne.
Description of Work: We called ServiceOne when the hot water heater in one of our homes began leaking. The plumbing company they sent out, Pruitts Plumbing, responded quickly. The work was excellent and performed quickly. The repairman was very polite to my mother, and the job site was clean when he left.

One Guard Home Warranty knows nothing about customer relationships. They look for customers who are willing to pay an annual fee and that will NOT make any claims. After 1 year of a very trying time with One Guard Home Warranty, we worked hard to get things fixed and many times this cost our family out of pocket expenses that we could not afford. We did this in good faith that One Guard would then cover it under our warranty. Come to find out, that is not the case. We paid $4000 for a new air conditioner because one guard would not cover it. They did have something in their policy about the particular piece that needed to be replaced. It basically said, we will not replace this part without replacing the entire AC unit. That statement sure makes it convenient for them to get out of replacing Heating/AC systems. Today we made a call to renew. You might be asking why? Here is why. We worked very hard to clear exceptions and pre-existing conditions off of our policy. This is where our out of pocket expenses came into play. My feeling was "ok, let's just get it done, make our relationship with One Guard stronger, and move on down the road". That road ended today when they refused to renew our policy because according to them we had too many claims. What are these home warranties in business for??? To collect and not provide any service. I would strongly suggest to stay away from One Guard Home Warranty. And yes, I feel as though I am and have been, completely fair about everything.

I have not dug into this particular claim, but I would like to respond to your statement about home warranty companies being in business to collect and not provide service. From my brief check of your time with us (one year) OneGuard collected $404 for the purchase of your warranty and spent about $2000 in claims around such items as the water heater, faucet, heating and air conditioning system. It is every home warranty companies jurisdiction to renew or not renew a client based on the risk that the home poses. But in defense of OneGuard's renewal rate, we have the highest in the industry at 63%, which indicates most of our customers have a satisfactory experience with us. I am sorry this has not been your case. But for those who may be reading this post, I wanted them to know that we are not in the business of taking customers money and not providing service.
