I've had One Guard (previously Service One) Home Warranty for about 10 years. Overall, they are much better than the previous home warranty company I'd had, probably because they are local. I do pay for the premium contract, as well as a couple of additional services (pool, etc.), so it is around $800/year. Then the cost of covered services is $55-$60, depending on when you purchased your contract. Although I have used them numerous times for plumbing, electrical, water heaters, air conditioning, etc., I've only one had one dispute with them over an item. In that case, I know the contractor did not provide alternatives to a plumbing problem, and it would have required that my entire bathroom be retiled. One Guard agreed with the contractor and said I needed to go with their recommendations or they would not pay. I ended up hiring someone else, who came out and performed the job for $300, whereas having to retile and redo the plumbing would have cost me thousands. I was disappointed in this instance. Overall, even if we do not use our policy much, it is worth it to know that they can easily find a contractor who will come out in a reasonable amount of time, saving me time trying to find someone. And they do provide a 30-day guarantee, so that if the same thing happens again, there is no additional charge.
Description of Work: I contacted this home warranty company because I needed service on a garage door. As usual, they contacted somebody who was out by the next morning.

One of my two AC units went out and they sent a fellow that said it just needed Freon, but it didn’t do what it was supposed to. The next person came a few days later and found nothing. The third person finally determined what the problem was. There was a problem with the thermostat, and the system was turning on but not staying on. I went a total of 12 days without AC in 112 degree weather. The Freon also went out really fast, so there must have been some leak that they missed.

The broken light in the chandelier was not covered under the warranty we have with One Guard, but the price was still far cheaper than if we would have had called an electrician on our own to come out and give us a diagnostic. We have used One Guard several times in the last 9 months since we have had them, and so far have been very happy with them. You can file the initial claim on-line which is nice, and they have always been prompt in getting back to us with the company info. that will be contacting us to do the work. Aside from a frustrating incident when I had to re-submit our initial home inspection report a second time (I think they were making it complicated so I would just give up, which I didn't and our broken pool salt cell was eventually completely replaced, so don't give up!) they have been very easy to deal with. All in all, from all the bad stories I have read about home warranty companies I would have to give this one a A-... which isn't too shabby!
Description of Work: We had an electrician come out to fix a problem with a kitchen light.

We woke up on Thursday morning to a very warm house because our A/C broke. I called OneGuard that AM and they immediately conferenced me in with one of their A/C contractors (Arizona Trade Masters) so that I could immediately schedule an appointment. I was very pleased to learn that they could come out the same day. Within 4 hours of my call, Arizona Trade Masters arrived at my house. I can't believe that they arrived at my house so quickly. They found that I had a Freon leak and that my compressor had failed. Then they told me that they had to call in to OneGuard to inform them of the problem. That's when I got worried. You hear about all kinds of bad experiences with home warranty companies. When the technician got off the phone with OneGuard, he told me that they were going to replace my A/C unit. I was so happy. They offered to put us in hotel that night because they could not install the new unit until the next morning. Within 5 minutes of this news, I received a phone call from OneGuard and they helped me with hotel arrangements. Wow, this is exactly the opposite experience I expected. OneGuard is really great! It's hard to fathom that any company still provides such excellent service, but I really can't believe that I received such responsive and caring service from a home warranty company. I will definitely renew! I'd definitely recommend OneGuard to anyone!

I have been totally impressed with this warranty company and its contractors! I was skeptical and unsure about getting a warranty, but now I am a loyal customer for life! Not only is OneGuards customer service impeccable, they really want to save me money and they are unlike any warranty/insurance company I have ever dealt with. All of my sprinkler problems except one was covered, and they didn't even flinch when it was time to perform service... Surprised I didn't need to pull out the boxing gloves once. Eldon the sprinkler guy from sprinkler doctors was a professional and knew exactly what he was doing to the point that I will never use a different sprinkler company even if issue is not warrantied. Adam from CopperStar Security gave me a great deal on an alarm (which was also through warranty) and came out the day I moved in to re-key my locks... Another service that I didn't expect from a warranty company. Bottom Line? Awesome warranty, awesome contractors!

.My air conditioner stopped working. We got home on a Friday evening to a home in the upper 80s. I talked with Chris who arranged to have a contractor come to us the next morning. We called around 8pm and had a contractor at our home the next morning around 10am. The contractor that arrived was quick, courteous, and mindful of the fact that our home was hot.

Their customer service is pretty good. The person I dealt with was fairly responsive. They returned calls and answered questions. We haven't made a service call with them yet. It covers appliances and garage doors, plumbing, electric, and a/c.

It's like $40 to $60 each time they come out, so it's like a service fee. My experience with them has been fine. The only reason we got it was because we just purchased this home and it was covered by the seller, so we're going to use this warranty for the year that they paid for and then we probably won't have the warranty again. All and all we were happy and the service was fine.

It depends on the contractors they send out. OneGuard Home Warranties is an appliance warranty company. Anytime something goes wrong, we will call them and they will assign the different contractors to actually do the repair work. We have used them twice. In general we are pretty happy with OnGuard themselves. They are available 24 hours a day. Generally, the waiting time is a few minutes at most and then they will assign someone to you. The service itself is good.

Oneguard was again very prompt to our need. The sewerline backed up into the tub for the second time since move in. Oneguard service rep understood this stinky situation, again, and arranged a plumber to be on site within 2 hours from my phone call. I was a little disappointed about the service fee as the previous plumber said if his fix did not work he would come back at no charge. That plumber was not able to get to this current problem that day so we opted for another plumber that could. This guy provided a better fix as he totally blew out the line with enough pressure to feel the blockage released. Since we opted for the faster service we were more than happy to pay the $59 again. A better plumber for OneGuard's record books.

I'd compare them with a low rate insurance company; They provide the lowest level of service to meet the contract requirements, and are always looking for a reason why they aren't going to perform the service. For example, when a bathtub faucet broke in the open position at the house, I called OneGuard to schedule the service. It took them 3 days (the limit in the contract) to schedule someone. During that time, the faucet would have continued to run, if I had not turned the water off at the shut-off valve off under the tub. When the repairman arrived (on time, I'll give them that) he informed me that since I had taken action to repair the problem myself (seriously!?) it would not be covered under the warranty. Again, the only thing I did was turn off the water to the faucet using the shutoff valve. After speaking with OneGuard, it was confirmed that I was voiding the coverage by doing that. To rub salt on the wound, they then sent me a bill for the $60 service fee for the call.

OneGuard maintains the highest renewal rate in the home warranty industry, due to the fact that we provide our customers with an exceptional customer experience, while taking care of their claims. We wouldn’t have a renewal rate just over 70% and a customer satisfaction rating over 97%, if we were a “low rate home warranty company providing a low level of service.” It just wouldn’t be possible. We have over 40,000 highly satisfied customers. Specifically relating to the example that you provided in your comments, we’d like to provide some additional details relating to this. Upon the technicians arrival to your home, it was visually noted that the faucet had already been taken apart, indicating that an attempt to make repairs was evident. It was then reported to OneGuard, by our contractor, that you admittedly turned the handle too hard when trying to turn off the water on the cold side, which resulted in the stripping of the plastic housing and threads. A simple repair that could have been taken care of by the contractor immediately turned into a more difficult repair, resulting in access issues. Because of the repairs that you attempted as a homeowner on the faucet, caused more damage, this isn’t the result of normal wear and tear, thus repairs being denied by OneGuard. Any home warranty company would have identified the same thing, not covering this claim. We are sorry that we were unable to cover this claim and regret that you were dissatisfied with our service. It has proven to be useless and so I will not be renewing it. On time, they were nice and did a service. The second time they did not. I would say read the contract closely and know what you are getting into. Their price was pretty much like any other warranty and they were pretty responsive.

It has not been resolved. They set up a monitor and a motion detector that was not calibrated correctly and they have not followed up to schedule someone to come fix it. That has been a week ago. It was what I expected when they came out, it was fine. It was just that one thing that hasn't been resolved yet.

My experience has been great, when I have had to contact them the customer service was great. They are very prompt when you have a service call. The coverage is awesome and I really like that provide pest and termite control. They have reasonable rates and I will continue to use them in the future.

My experience with them was pretty good. I like their fast response and fast service. It wasn’t as fast because it was a weekend, but I got them to come before I could get somebody in first thing in the morning on a Monday. So it was pretty good and they also provided pretty good customer service. The quality of their work was good and fast. They arrived on time when they made an appointment.
Description of Work: I used OneGuard Home Warranties for fixing my drain completely. I’m on a warranty with them right now.

We closed on our "new" house about three weeks ago. After two weeks in the property, one of the AC units stopped cooling well. When I called One Guard (first thing in the morning) I was a bit bothered by the fact that they said they needed a copy of the home inspection at that point. They told me they may also require proof that any issues in the inspection had been corrected. I thought they should have asked for that when we first contracted them to set up service, not when I needed help for an issue. When I asked about this, I was told it was for my protection. They told me the AC company would contact me within 5-7 hours. AC company contacted within the window provided and came out to the house the next day and fixed the leak for the service call fee of $59. They also installed some sensors at an additional cost ($150). Overall an OK experience but I fear that they may use the inspection report to deny claims in the future- no data on this, just a feeling i got based on the conversation. In addition, i wish the response time would have been faster, given how how hot it was in Houston.

I had just started the new warranty service after the builder's warranty ended. The water heater was only one year old. The plumber called the first day and arrived on the second day to repair. The part was covered under the water heater warranty with State. Because the water heater was so new the part was not available and they challenged the repair. The plumbing company sent in a second plumber and the part was replaced two days later. The delay was due to the water heater manufacturer initially refusing to replace the part. One Guard did respond to me when I escalated and the plumber they provided did an excellent job.
