I found them on Angie's List and they were very, very good. They do high quality work, they were very courteous and they were very prompt, they kept us updated on progress on doing the roof and they're very professional. They were very reasonable considering the quality of work. We didn't have any rain and they just did the roof and I feel confident that they did a good job but we haven't been able to test it yet because we haven't got rain. I would recommend them.

Why thank you for your kind words. We perform a service that is messy, noisy, disruptive and most of the time, lets be real, most homeowners would rather buy new countertops, landscaping, flooring, paint- the list goes on and on. It is nice to hear the positive feedback. Best always, Ann Pepper Director of Business Development apepper@lyonsroofing.com

Great from start to finish. They replaced a considerable amount of facia boards also plus 1 plywood on flat part and some smaller boards on pitched part. Only problem is that I'm still finding nails/staples that weren't "found" at the end of the job with the roller magnet. I'd highly recommend this company and have.

They were extremely helpful in explaining what had to be done. They answered all of our questions. They came back more than once to help us. We were very pleased with them, but we chose someone else. The process of the estimating was very helpful and professional. They seemed to be quite experienced.

Generally, the experience was horrible. There was a big problem with information getting passed the appropriate crews, lack of following instructions when the information was recieved, and a general lack of pride and quality in the installation of the new roofing materials. The end result looks like amateurs, not professionals, installed the roof. Who knows want is going to happen when the summer rains start dumping water on this roof. In detail, Lyons Roofing was prompt and punctual about meeting with me at the house to provide me with an estimate bid to replace the roof. Lyons was one of three companies that were chosen to provide bids. The other two did not arrive on time for the appointment. I checked reviews for the three and based on all available information, Lyons Roofing was awarded the contract. Craig Walker was the sales representative that provided the initial inspection and estimate. Due to issues beyond the control of this homeowner or Lyons Roofing, there was a several month delay from the time of the initial estimate and the actual contract award. This meant that the deadline to submit and recieve reimbursement from the insurance company was approaching with only two weeks remaining (the replacement of the roofing material was due to hail damage, and therefore was a homeowner's insurance claim which the insurance company approved). Craig and Lyons Roofing went above and beyond the call of duty to rearrange schedules to accomodate getting the job done in time to meet the deadline requirments. I was very impressed - Kudos to Lyons Roofing for this aspect of customer service. I met with Craig the Saturday before the following Wednesday when the job was to start. I provided signatures and the down-payment. Craig informed me that details and particulars would be handled by the assigned project manager, and that he would meet with me prior to start of the project to colaborate with me to capture the details of what and how I wanted some of the specific details handled. On Monday, I received a thank you and reminder call from the Lyons Roofing office regarding the pending job, and was told that I would hear from the project manager by Tuesday afternoon to discuss details and schdule. I did not receive this call, and this is where the problems started. John Miller and his tear-off crew arrived onsite about 8:30 AM Wednesday morning. John was very professional and friendly. He greeted me with his business card and an apology that he did not have the proper shop provided paper work, and the fact that I had not heard from the assigned project manager. John made the best of the situation. He and I collaborated on what was to be done, at least to the extent it related to the tear-off crew and initial preparation. John's crew efficiently cleared the entire roof of old material, found and marked a couple of sheets of plywood that needed replacing, layed down the felt paper to make the roof water resistant, and provided good clean up when his crew was done. The only minor complaint is that they missed the removal of some old metal and wood 1x2 standoff strips (the wood that goes under the drip-edging on the facia). At the end of the day, however, I had not yet heard from a project manger, and was left with uncertainty as to when and who the next crew would arrive to start the reinstallation. Most importantly, based on the day's experience, I was starting to be concerned about the details of the job - I was doing a lot of telling and informing, but the certainty that the information was being handled correctly was missing. What I did not know then, was just how much lack of a proper communications plan would negatively impact the remainder of the project. Antonio and his installation crew arrived about 7:30 AM Thursday morning. It was about 75 degrees with at predicted high temperature around 104 degree Fahrenheit. I was expecting them to be onsite at 6:00 sharp. The time and temperature will become important details in this story. Antonio introduces himself, his English language not fluent (I was assured by Craig that there would always be someone on site that spoke the English language, however I guess that did not mean that it would be fluent). He had parked his truck on the side of the house (corner lot). I suggested that he park in front so that he and the crew did not have to deal with the side yard fence. He refused. Later I stepped around to the side of the house to see that the crew had dismantled my 3 foot fence without asking permission so that they would not have to step over. Arrrrgh! I walked the roof with Antonio and once again communicate the details of what I needed to be done along with the information of the plywood that needed replacing specifically instructing him to NOT replace a T-vent that had been there before, and the fact that some of the 1x2 edging did not get removed. He acknowledged that he was aware and would see to it all was done correctly. Back to that T-vent. The old hole was coincidently on the same 4x8 sheet of plywood that needed to be replaced. John's crew had marked that sheet with orange spray paint to indicated that it needed to be replaced, and marked the felt paper covering that sheet with similar indications along with a circled X where the existing hole was to convey the installer not to recut the hole. This becomes relavant later in this story. Antonio was sent out with only 50 feet of the approximately 255 feet of required 1x2 wood for the facia dripedge and no plywood. The new shingles had already been delivered and were on the roof. Antonio's crew found an additional sheet of bad plywood, showed me. At about 8:30 AM, Finally!!!! a project manger arrives at the site. Not the original assigned project manger, but a pitchitter from a roof foaming crew, Phil Olguin. I once again went through everything with Phil including the replacement plywood, 1x2 around the entire roof edge (this was originally discussed with Craig the previous Saturday. This was one of those detail items that was to be handled by the project manager before the job started, that never happened), and the T-vent non-reinstall. The reason Phil did not arrive onsite earlier was he had to procure the replacement plywood sheets that Antonio needed. Antonio had called Phil to give him the specs of what he needed. Problem was, Antonio ordered, and Phil delivered 1/2" plywood instead of what was actually on the roof, 3/8" plywood. Again the fact that the roof decking was built with 3/8" plywood was discussed with Craig and John, and was actually documented on the paperwork that I signed the previous Saturday with Craig. Having the wrong plywood now delayed the installation crew. One of the things that they did to stay busy was to start installing the new drip edge over the old 1x2 that I had told Antonio that the tear-off crew did not remove, and in spite of the fact that I had stated my desire for all of the 1x2 wood be replaced in a conversation with Craig (again Craig told me that this would be handled by the assigned project manager that never showed). Phil asked about the 1x2s and I told him that I wanted it to all match, meaning that I wanted it to all be new. I guess Phil understood that because it was all 1x2 wood, it did not matter that some of it was more than 25 years old, cracked and deteriorated. They had left the old 1x2s on the back of the house (approximately half of the job) and installed new dripedge over the old wood. They were now going to have to lift up the brand new starter courses, remove the new dripedge that they had just installed, remove the 1x2s that should have been done before the shingles went back down, install the new 1x2 wood, reinstall the dripedge, and re-secure the starter course of shingles all without damaging the new shingles - which failed. Shingles tend to become very soft and prone to damage above 85 degrees F. The temperature is now about 95 degrees and getting warmer. A installation job that should have taken a day (had they been organized, prepared, shown up at 5AM like one would expect of a professional crew) now gets to a point in the day (about 12:30PM, and 104 degrees) where Antonio thinks that they need to stop out of concern that the shingles are getting soft enough to be easily damaged. OK - good call. Antonio, Phil, and I all agreed that they would replace the plywood and call it a day, and be back onsite in the morning at 6:30 AM. I heard some sawing and some hammer, then silence. The crew had left without checking out with me. Upon inspection, I found that they had not cleaned up after themselves, leaving a half sheet of old plywood with protruding fasteners laying in the back yard down from where they had toshed it off the roof; the T-vent that was not to be reinstalled had been cut in to the other new plywood, over 1/4 of the new shingles that had been installed where severely damaged, scuffed, and marked with tar; and they had thrown all of their other materials, trash, and tools upon the newly installed areas. At this point, I am ballistic. The appearance was that this installation crew just did not care about quality, workmanship, or have pride in what they were doing. I proceeded to write a complaint email listing 13 specific points to Lyons Roofing which was acknowledged with a phone call and a commitment to resolve the issues. I continued to exchange emails with Craig and Robert Dishmon, Director of Operations. The plywood was replaced again, this time with the proper support clips and blocking, and without the T-vent hole; over a square of new shingles had to be replaced outright; and serveral other smaller areas of damage that had been covered with material and trash also were identified and repaired - a brand new roof having to be repaired before it is even complete - WOW! Walkthru resulted in 10 fix items that they owe.

No excuses. It is my understanding that Paul LaNue, the owner of Lyons Roofing has met with you since these events and has worked with you to remediate the project your satisfaction. I know Paul was equally upset and was ready to personally oversee the tear off and re-install of your roof. We appreciate your frustration and know this- it is shared frustration as this is contrary to our workmanship standards. Thank you for bringing this to our attention. I sent in a request for an estimate for a new roof and the response was almost immediate. They were not able to schedule an inspection for nearly two weeks which was not a problem. The lady that did the inspection was incredible, knowledgeable, friendly, very helpful. She responded within two days with a written estimate. I decided to use another company as the pricing was substantially higher than that of others and did not include the same amount of coverage. While they did lower the estimate, it was done with decreasing the services which did not make me comfortable. I have only heard great things about the company and my limited experience supports that. It was just that their pricing is much higher than expected.

Thank you for your kind words. We understand that every roof can be remediated in a variety of ways. It is very important to review all aspects of a job proposal: scope of work, warranties provided, quality of materials and proposed workmanship and of course price/value. Our goal is to provide an estimate for the most cost effective-long term solution for your specific roofing project. I hope that helps. Lyons Roofing was the highest of all three bids I received, but I chose them for their understanding of scope of work, reputation, and detailed bid. Because one of the roofs had to be rebuilt, this was not a job I wanted messed up. They arrived as scheduled and did a great job on all the work. The crew was attentive, kept the job site clean, took pictures to keep me apprised as job progressed. Two problems came up during the job: They disconnected an A/C unit while working on one of the roofs and failed to reconnect properly (on the hottest day of the year), so I had to call an A/C guy on a Saturday. Lyons Roofing paid for the service call without argument. There was a misunderstanding about the construction of the new decking. Salesperson tried to say the costs were not covered in the bid, although I had a clear email thread AND estimate stating otherwise. BUT what could have turned into a huge problem was easily rectified by their VP of Production, when he agreed that the scope of work was, in fact, as we had agreed upon. HUGE kudos to him for his customer service skills and integrity. The salesperson? Not so much. I would definitely call upon this company to do work for me in the future. I'd just be sure not to call that salesperson. Her attempt to defer blame with her 'how was I to know what was under that foam' attitude could have been a real problem had the other members of her firm not stepped up.

The estimator and a trainee showed up on time, surveyed the roof, went to their vehicle, and brought me an estimate. The price was higher than other estimates I received, but I believe it would have been worth the difference had this been for my personal residence. The time frame was also longer than I had hoped, which would have put my schedule for putting the home back on the market at risk. That said, I will certainly call Lyons Roofing when I need my roof replaced, or if I have a friend or colleague who needs a roof replaced. Everything about the experience was positive.
Description of Work: I received an estimate to replace the underlayment on a 27-year old home, which will be a flip or rental. The estimators were punctual, professional, friendly and knowledgeable. I believe they would have done the best job, but their costs were higher, and their time-frame for doing the project was further out than worked with my plans to get the home back on the market. were punctual, professional, friendly and knowledgeable were punctual, professional, friendly and knowledgeable Thank you for having Dan Wolf and his trainee give me an estimate on a home I am flipping in Scottsdale. Dan and John (I believe) were punctual, professional, friendly and knowledgeable. I am certain that Lyons Roofing would have done the best job on the project; however, the home is a "flip" and your estimate came in about 30% higher than the other bids, and the time frame was nearly six weeks later than the others. Because of those factors, I chose another company. That said, if this were my house, instead of a flip, I would have chosen Lyons Roofing, and will certainly recommend the company to others. I will use Lyons when it's time to replace my roof. Thank you again. I will write a good review on AngiesList.com, because this was a great experience, and I believe your accolades are well-deserved. I requested a quote for maintenance recoating of my flat roof on Mar 25th via their Web Site. I received a response email within 3 business days scheduling an inspection with Paul LaNue, President of the company. Paul arrived within the scheduled window and was very professional. He explained their complete process and how the quote and work would proceed if they got the job. The company uses a spray-on product that reduces application time. The home (and flat roof of approx. 4500 SqFt) is 6.5 years old with no evidence of leaking or significant wear. We discussed the job and the fact that I have a Solar Pool Water heating system with10 circular water heating tube rings on the roof that would have to be raised to allow coating of the surface underneath. The original pool solar heating system installation was done to allow the system to be raised so that recoating of the roof. Paul conducted the inspection with me and thoroughly explained not only their methods and product, but pointed out how the roof was constructed and where common roof failures could happen. He showed me how their techniques enhance durability and address the potential problem areas. I asked how they would handle the panels. Paul showed me how they would raise the panels on separators so that they could do their work and the product would cure properly. I was extremely impressed with his willingness to educate me on their techniques as well as explaining overall roofing matters. As promised, I received the hard copy quote at the end of the visit. The estimate proposed 2 Coats of sprayed on coating and provided for a 5 year warranty. Based on the facts that 1) they would be using a spray on product application; 2) would work with the Solar Pool water heating system (quoted price for removal and reinstallation of the panels was ~$1000.00 from the Solar Contractor if I had to have them removed for the recoating), as well as 3) provided a 5 year warranty - I decided to go with their proposal. The three man work team showed up on time as scheduled. They were very courteous, friendly, extremely efficient and totally professional. They kept the site clean (the spray application equipment is in a self-contained trailer). There was no trace of them even being there after they were finished. The total process required only 1.5 days to complete and that included the extra time to work with the Solar Pool Water Heating System. The Supervisor, Pete, checked each phase of their work and returned after the required curing time for the job approval walk-through inspection and to provide the warranty paperwork. The experience with this contractor was excellent in every aspect. I plan on using them when it is time to have the roof replaced. They use a spray-on foam application that adds R-Value and increases the overall lifetime of the roof.

Lyons is extremely hospitable, professional and honest. They are based in Phoenix and were honest when they said it would take a couple of weeks to get me an estimate. They showed up on the date promised and provided a reasonable estimate. This was a smaller job and there was some waiting to get scheduled for the work itself. I am very happy with their work and consider it well worth the wait for the quality of the job they did. I will definitely use them in the future when I will need some more extensive work done.
Description of Work: Lyons fixed a problem that caused water to leak down the outside wall of my courtyard. There was a design defect in the original layout when the home was built. A previous attempt by another company to fix the issue accomplished nothing. Lyons removed the tile and fixed the underlying issue as well as channeling the water properly and ending the issue with water running down the wall.

I chose another Angie's List "A" rated roofer based strictly on price. If the estimate difference had been just $500 or so, I probably would have chosen Lyons. I would highly recommend Lyons Roofing and particularly Mike Randolph.

I called on the weekend, at night, during a heavy rain, at a time when my roof was leaking. The Lyons "emergency" guy got back to me quickly, strung me along for a couple of hours, and finally told me that the best he could do was to "get somebody out there Monday". I agreed. It was Tuesday before "Mike" came. He went up on the roof, took photos on his phone that he showed me, said he had all the information he needed to put together a bid and email it to me by the end of the week, and left. A couple of days later he called to say that there would be a delay of a couple of days and asked me to give him my email address again, as he had misplaced it. Although I later followed up and spoke with someone else at Lyons who said he would get with Mike and get the ball rolling, I never got a bid or a contact from Mike. Some time later, I got a voice message from someone at Lyons saying that she understood I had wanted to speak to them about something and that, if I wanted to talk with someone, I could call her. I didn't respond to that message. I gave higher grades for punctuality and professionalism than these facts might lead you to expect, because the initial response showed that, given the circumstances, it appeared that a reasonable effort was being made, and because the telephone demeanor of the people I spoke with was good.

I know it is never a good excuse but when it rains- it does pour. We really do have a love hate relationship with the rain. On the heels of a multi-year drought a wet winter reveals a lot of issues valley wide. I think it might have been me trying to connect with you. Again, I apologize for Mikes inability to connect with you appropriately. Rest assured we have already addressed these logistics issues going forward. We were pleased. They were fine with cleaning up. Many people may be looking at a whole roof job and we were not. We looked for a couple of bids and it was for a small area. A lot of roofers will charge for an entire roof. They will say it will be $25,000 for a whole new roof but this guy did not.
Description of Work: We used Lyons Roofing for a roofing issue. They patched a part of the roof.

Thank you for your kind words. We always seek to provide solutions that make sense for our customer. That's not to say when a roof is beyond its useful life- we would recommend a full roof too! In your situation it must have made sense to do a partial roof. Customers for Life- we operate by that mantra. Best always, Ann Pepper Director of Business Development apepper@lyonsroofing.com

Overall good experience and would contact them again
Description of Work: Although I did not use them, I would give them another opportunity. The estimator was punctual, professional, and engaging. They took pictures of the problem areas they found on the roof and provided a detailed estimate of the work to be performed. The price was competitive and I felt comfortable that their work would have been satisfactory.

The initial contact went well. The estimate came in just higher than expected and the person coming out was prompt. However, it went downhill from there. The biggest factor was that the people that did come out NEVER called to tell me they were coming out, despite my requests. Even after the job had to be rescheduled due to weather. When I did call to inquired about when the crew would be there, I got a terse, "I'm calling now" and was promptly hung up on before I could relate some issues that would be a factor. After the job was complete, I got a phone call stating that the crew didn't use all the wood, but then got a bill for extra wood. Upon calling to discuss this, I was told that there was a change order, which I never got detailing the need for extra wood. This was also supposed to be discussed with me in a phone call prior to them coming out, which I also never received. In all, there was no communication unless I called them. Very disturbing considering that this meant an increase of almost $1,000 above the original estimate, though when discussing this they did try to make me feel better by saying that it was originally thought to cost around $1,600 more. This is a company I would neither use again nor recommend to anyone. The lack of communication is disturbing and unprofessional.
Description of Work: They came out, gave an estimate for a new roof, replaced the roof on a townhouse, connected on 2 sides. Also replaced the trim and facia boards.

My sincere apologies that your project did not unfold as anticipated. I can see in our notes that there were some issues that arose as a consequence of rain that occured during production. I do understand that we took efforts to remediate entirely. I am suspecting that there is more to the story that perhaps our notes are not revealing- and your review also did not reveal. Would you mind contacting me directly so that I can take measures to correct these issues going forward. Ann Pepper Director of Business Development apepper@lyonsroofing.com

I called today for an estimate (3-25-13) and the girl who answered told be the earliest an estimator could be out to my house was week of 4-15-13. She actually kinda chuckled when I sighed after hearing the middle of April would be their earliest available time. Obviously Lyons Roofing won't be filing for bankruptcy in the near future. I can tell you from my personal experience of running a business, if I told a potential customer it'd be 3 weeks before I could even take a look at their problem, I wouldn't be in business for very long. And I told her my roof was leaking, so it's not like I'm wasting their time.

I am so sorry that we were not able to accomodate your request with shorter timelines. This has been an unusually wet winter on the heels of a dry year- so many homeowners have become aware of their own leaking roofs. In an effort to help paint the picture-we shop our same in class competition for their wait times- and we are all running the same wait. I would be concerned about a roofer that is not busy given the recent weather we have had. I would love to still get you on the schedule- I promise we are worth the wait. The estimate process went well.
Description of Work: We obtained an estimate to replace our roof from Lyons. We chose another roofer based on two things. We were unsure about the results from the roofing method Lyons uses and the price from another Angie's List roofer was better. We were impressed with Lyons and would not have hesitated to hire them had they used the roofing method we wanted and had the price been a little lower.
