We want to thank Kirk Development Company for helping us make our master bathroom remodel a reality. After planning and saving for five years, it has appeared as we envisioned it. We are very much enjoying it! Special thanks to Devin Kempster, designer/estimator, who listened to us and guided us through making a zillion choices of materials and fixtures. She was consistently checking with us as we moved through the remodeling process sharing many tips along the way. She is the one who caused us to select Kirk due to her professionalism and personna upon a first impression, even before we had estimates from three different companies. Actually, Kirk came in at slightly over $2,000 of the figure which we had given her, and we had figured in 10% more for safety anyway. Also, special thanks to Jim Graham, our superintendent, who kept in communication with us through calls and texts, informing us who and what would be appearing and happening throughout the entire process. Always responsive to us, when the work was not to our standards, sub-contractors were called back to correct and re-do it. Jim is greatly concerned about the satisfaction of the customers and the quality of the work. We were pleased with the plumbers, cabinet guys, tile guys, countertop guys and carpet guys. We were impressed with their craftsmanship, something only possible by training, experience and talent. We appreciated the electricians returning and assisting us with several electrical situations not included but influenced by the remodel. We also appreciated the quality of the shower doors. We believe that Kirk is successful because of their personnel and communication with customers and within the company, which is challenging with so many contributing to the finished product which changes with each project. Truly, Kirk can say, "We take care of our customers" and "We'll make it good." We received what we were promised or informed if it was not possible. Actually, we received more. That is service. We couldn't have done it without you! Chuck and Stephanie Thompson

I found Kirk Development using Angie's list, and contacted them primarily due to the high number of positive feedback. My first contact was with Nate, who worked with me over the few months it took to schedule and get the work completed, as well as Michael who oversaw much of the work as well. I would contact Nate again in a second for any other work I needed, I found him to be reliable, as well as being easy to work with and friendly. The work was done beautifully, and communication was always great. If you are looking to get work done, call these guys and have them come out. Positive experience from start to finish.
Description of Work: The project consisted of replacing my roof, fixing a cracked carport beam, as well as painting the exterior of my house. Also included was some electrical work to get smoke detectors up to code.

The architect who came to our home, Nate Mess, was very patient with us even though we changed our minds many times before he came up with the perfect plan. The Project Superintendent, Michael Lentine, did a great job of overseeing all the workers and sub contractors. He made sure the job ran smoothly and kept me informed every step of the way. We are extremely pleased with the end result and would not hesitate to call on Nate and Michael for any future projects.
Description of Work: We had a master bedroom and bath remodel. Our home was built in the late 70s with a small master bedroom, a little closet and a very tiny bathroom. Kirk Development added 240 more square feet for the new bedroom and remodeled the old bedroom/bath space into a spacious new bathroom with an enormous tile shower, separate toilet room and large walk-in closet.

Everybody knows remodeling can be a disaster. We did not experience this with Kirk Development. Nate came out and listened to what we were thinking and came back with a plan that was perfect. We had the tub taken out. Our shower was redone with a custom porcelain tile and glass shower enclosure. The tile work is excellent! They did the floor too. The window was also replaced and moved up some so not to be directly in the wet area. We had a new vanity and granite countertop put in that's beautiful. The wiring was reworked to install new lighting, recessed and two sconce lights. We had an old mirror from my grandmother's cabin that they put in with great care. The colors all came together and looks great. All the workers were clean and neat. Our superintendent kept us informed of every step and everything went great. Thanks again guys for a job well done. They didn't want my money, they didn't even follow through with a quote.
Description of Work: We met with Nate in our home on April 29th. We discussed an addition to our home to expand our kitchen and master bath with our plan to start construction in Nov/Dec 2016. We wanted a quote for the work and some ideas. We liked Nates suggestions and personality but he said he'd get us a quote in the next weeek and a half or so. Well, a month later, he left me a voice mail stating that he had a few questions and I called back and left him a voice mail asking him to call me back with any questions. I'm still waiting for the call and we never got a quote Today is June 22nd. Based on the fact that they couldn't even get back to me to quote the job, I'd never hire them now, even if they did give me a quote. I can't imagine having the back of my house cut open and THEN not getting a call back.

Response from Kirk Development Co
Kirk Development was asked to give a design and comprehensive estimate on remodeling the whole end of the house which included the laundry room, kitchen, dining room, master bathroom and closet. At a time when the design and estimate was nearly complete the owner emailed Kirk Development and said she wanted to change the scope of work. Due to the changes more time was necessary to modify and complete the estimate. We requested additional information and the owner never returned our call.

I've always wanted a woodworking workshop and had the perfect corner of the yard to build one, but there was a problem. The previous owners had filled in a pool where I wanted to build. To put down a pad would require very expensive excavation and fill process overseen by an engineer for a stable build. I turned to Kirk Development Company for advice on what could be done and they came up with the solution. Put the structure on piers that were where the pool decking used to be and let the building "float" above the old pool. Their project manager was a pleasure to deal with and the crew foreman made sure all the work was done on time, to my satisfaction and was always available to answer my questions. I had a few changes as the project went along and all were incorporated without issue or delay. If I need a remodel or future construction on my home, Kirk Development Company will be my first call!

Kirk Development is a great company to work with. Friendly and professional staff...very responsive when I would call. Michael and Devin were the two I worked with most closely. Michael was very prompt and the sub's stayed on schedule. Devin helped me pick out tile and fixtures. All in all, great service and will use them again in the future and will refer them to my family and friends.

It was finally time to remodel our guest bathroom. We had some leaks and cracks in the tile, so we knew we would need to tear everything out and start over. I didn't realize all the choices we would need to make! Kirk was very helpful in taking us shopping or bringing us samples to help my husband and I make all the selections. Then they started work. We had meetings and a lot of communication from Kirk so we would be informed of the progress. The end result is our beautiful new bathroom! We are very pleased. They even made suggestions that would help with wheel chair access throughout our home. This will help me get around easier. The floor looks great, too! We have all new tile. Thank you -- job well done!

We called Kirk Development to help us with being able to get better access to and use of our motor home. We live in an HOA area and needed to comply with their regulations as well as Zoning restrictions. These guys really know their stuff. They handled everything from design to getting the permits through. We didn't have to get involved with that and I'm glad. Their design met all parties restrictions and we now can clean, prep, load and unload without going to a storage facility. We let Gary know that we keep everything clean before and after trips so he designed with that in mind. He put cabinets and counter tops at one end with a large basin sink. Plenty of room on the counter for cleaning everything up. There is a faucet in the lower part with hot and cold water for filling a mop bucket and they even put in a floor drain. We can just hook up a hose and hose out when needed. The plumber was great. He had an idea for putting in a "primer" for keeping the p-trap from drying out. They put a sub panel for electricity on the side of the building. This gave us plenty of power for lighting and receptacles. We also were able to put a 50 amp outlet to plug the rig into so we don't have to run the generator. Our experience with Kirk was beyond good. The superintendent assigned to our job kept everything moving smoothly and kept us informed throughout the entire project. The job site was kept clean and everyone who worked here was professional. This level of personalized service isn't found everywhere and we know when we hire Kirk to do a job we can count on getting the attention that is needed for it. For instance, we have dogs and our circumstances provided a challenge. They made a suggestion that worked out perfect. They built a block wall with a gate, cross-fencing the property so when we are working on the motor home the dogs are not able to get out. If all gates are closed we can have them in there with us if we want. We are so happy with our addition and it looks like it belongs here too! We've seen some that look like they don't fit in and just don't look right. So So glad we have these guys to do our work. Thanks for a job well done. DV

As much as a demolition and a remodeling can be a not so pleasant experience, especially when you are living in the space being demolished and remodeled, working with Kirk Development as the general contractor for the project was just an incredibly positive experience. And, as it goes, maybe I was just a little lucky to have the job superintendent/manager be just incredible. His name is Michael. What can be frustrating as it relates to a project like this is communication that isn't what it should be; not the case with Michael. Every job superintendent/manager should take lessons from Michael about customer communication/customer service. The first thing Michael did was get my cell phone number; during the project, Michael would text me, telling me what to expect, when to expect it. Not once during the project did I need to ask Michael what subcontractors were going to be at the house or when they would be there, Michael let me know, well in advance. Again, Michael's communications with me were just beyond any expectations. Also, on a project like this, there are many subcontractors; electricians, plumbers, framing carpenters, finish carpenters, drywallers. I had no issues with any of the "subs", because Michael managed the "heck" out of them. Michael made sure the subs were at the house, literally, "on the dot" when they were scheduled to be there. And, the subs did their work in "logical order"; Michael making sure the right subs followed behind the right subs; inspecting the work of each sub, making sure everything was proceeding with high quality from start to finish. And, the results? In a "prior life", I was a framing carpenter and a drywaller; I recognize how easy it is to promise beauty and how difficult it is to fulfill the promise. Again, I attribute the results to Michael. The home is just beautiful now; it has been transformed. Something that Michael did during the project, during the process, was make suggestions about how something would look better, or make more sense to do a certain way; he was always right. I am just so lucky, so happy with the outcome!!!!!! Again, I have a beautiful, modernized, quality living space; I just feel blessed to have chosen Kirk Development as the general contractor and so fortunate Michael was assigned to this project. We'd been planning to redo our old bathroom and had been putting off repairs for a few years. Then at 3am one morning a monsoon storm flooded our master bedroom and bath. Water flowed in under an old window, damaging the carpet, the walls, and the windowsill; also dripping through the ceiling in a few places. We spent hours dragging wet carpet out of the house and sponging up puddles of water from the bare concrete slab. After the insurance appraisal came in, we thought about all the other repairs and improvement plans we'd been putting off. It only made sense to get everything fixed the way we'd always wanted it. We researched several contractors and Kirk Development was the best choice. Devin Kempster listened to all of our needs and wants, and helped us craft a plan that fit our budget. Kirk Development is known as a high-end contractor, but their cost was very reasonable, especially considering their great attention to detail and to getting everything just right. We decided to redo half the house, living in the other half during construction. Construction superintendent Don Hannah carefully scheduled the trades workers for minimal disruption, making sure we were well aware of who was coming into our house to do what, and when. Don made sure we knew when our decisions were needed to keep the work flowing at a steady pace. A couple of times, items we had bought on our own turned out to have problems getting installed. Devin and Don worked closely with us to resolve every issue that came up, minimizing the impacts. When we needed time to make a major decision, Don would put related work on hold, so there was no need for rework. Kirk Development's flooring tile subcontractor is the best I've ever seen. The concrete slab in our house is not flat, and our walls are not square. The large floor tiles were laid on the diagonal, which makes the floor look bigger and effectively hides the lack of square walls. The floor has been evened out and now appears flat. Tile cuts are precise; the corner details are flawless, and the shower/tub is truly amazing. Back in 1978 when our house was built, roman tubs were fashionable and building oversight was lax. Our old roman tub had been falling apart and leaking badly through the foundation. A traditional tub wouldn't fit in the space, so we opted to rebuild the roman tub. Kirk Development rebuilt the tub properly, with insulation and several layers of waterproofing under the tiles. To remedy our long wait for hot water to kick in, Kirk Development installed a recirculating pump at the water heater. I can now enjoy deep soaking baths that keep warm for hours. I could not be happier with our completed renovation. Whenever I use our new master bath I feel like I'm visiting a spa. Very rejuvenating. Kirk Development did a masterful job of coordinating and constructing the work, with minimal impact to us during the process. We plan to use them again when we're ready to start phase 2, remodeling the kitchen. I highly recommend Kirk Development.

Everything went smoothly, and in a timely manner. Everyone was always very respectful and accommodating when it came to scheduling the days to be at my home. The workers always left the area neat and clean at the end of the day. I have always been very pleased with all the work done by Kirk Development, as well as the other trades that they do business with. It is always been top quality, and very professional!!
Description of Work: Kirk Development has been my "go to" company for the past 12 years! This past spring, when I discovered wetness and mold on a wall in my dining area, they were the 1st phone call I made! They promptly had someone come out to evaluate. They totally coordinated what needed to be done. A great plumbing company took care of some old, leaking cast iron pipes, another good vendor was contacted to do mold remediation, and then yet another good company was there to replace drywall, and repaint. The work was done in a timely and professional manner. Everyone at Kirk Development has always been such a pleasure to do business with!

From the start, everything went smoothly and in a timely fashion. Kirk Developement totally coordinated the entire project! Every vendor or tradesman that they used was top notch quality, and very professional. All the workers were very respectful and accomodating when scheduling the work days around MY work schedule. The workers always left the area neat and clean. Though it has been 6 years since this job was done, I love how it all came together, and still feels like a new kitchen I LOVE Kirk Developement, and will continue to call them , whether it's for a small, "handyman" type job, or a big remodeling project!!.

The process went well considering the complex services provided. Although, as would be expected in a job of this magnitude and considering the laborious task of rebuilding a home from the ground up and the required interactions with the various city and state licensing inspections, etc. departments, and insurance company interactions there were a few minor challenges as the process moved forward. That being said, whatever needed to be done to satisfactorily meet those challenges were professionally and nearly painlessly handled by the staff at Kirk Development. Also... if any loose ends needed attention after we moved back into our new home, those too were professionally and satisfactorily handled. Naturally we hope to never have to go through such an experience again, however if we did we would certainly look to Kirk again for assistance. Jerry Slonsky

Response from Kirk Development Co
This individual called Kirk Development on October 21st not six days prior as he has stated.. We returned his call on the same day. His mail box is not set up so he cannot received any messages. The six day period that was referenced is not true. We have tried to call him but he does not answer his phone. Kirk Development has a policy to call all customers back the same day. We keep a log of all calls in and calls out to the customer. There is nothing we can when the customer does not answer his phone and their mail box is not set up.

Although any major demolition and remodel project is chaotic and messy, everyone who worked on our project kept the mess and chaos to a minimum. They really went out of their way to keep things as comfortable and clean as possible.
Description of Work: New roof, new ac and duct work, updated electrical, new windows throughout entire house, and they demolished a carport and built a great room which is attached to the livingroom and kitchen. The new room added 500 square feet with a gas fireplace. Kirk Development is a very high quality company. Their sub-contractors are exellent, hard working and very professional. The entire project took about 10 weeks. So, we really got to know the supervisor and coordinator. They're such nice guys that we came to consider them friends and now see them socially. Michael Lentine was our project supervisor. He really cares about his customers. He even fixed a few things around our house that had nothing to do with the current project. He just did it out of the goodness of his heart. The care and attention we recieved from everyone at Kirk Development was the reason we hired them again. Four years ago they completely gutted and remodeled our kitchen. It's beautiful. We get a lot of really nice compliments from everyone who sees it. Thanks to Kirk Development our little, old house is now our big dream home.

UPDATE: On Oct 8, 2015, in response to a complaint I filed with the AZ Registrar of Contractors, in a meeting with the ROC, Kirk Dev Co, their lawyer, and myself, were informed that permits were required for the work that was done, and that Kirk Dev Co should never have started the work without them. Now I will have to get the work approved retroactively, including architect drawings and site plans never provided or requested by KDC. While responsibility for obtaining the permits was mine, I trusted KDC to inform me if they were needed. That is why I hired a licensed contractor. They did not inform me, and on at least two occasions said they were not needed. PREFACE: We have owned the home we remodeled since 1982. My husband passed away unexpectedly in February 2014. My daughter and two children live in the home, and my plan was to move in with them until I could figure out what I wanted to do, hence the remodel. I chose Kirk DevCo from Angie's list because of all the great reviews on Angie's list, the length of time they've been in business, they are family owned, and they are local. I explained to Nate that I knew I could get work done cheaper but I was willing to pay more for professionals with a good reputation because I didn't need any more stress in my life, and wanted help with design and material choices, which Nate promised would be the case. I went against the advice of my older daughter who wanted to manage the job herself. (She has experience, as does my my younger daughter. Both worked for a developer.) I agreed to the contract and price with Kirk, for roughly $66,374.00. I should mention also that I was paying for my daughter and her kids to move out, live in an apartment wile the work was being done, and move back in at the end, nearly $900.00 a month, and I was in a nearby apartment as well. THE JOB: Initial contact with Nate Mess was professional, with design and estimate meetings scheduled and kept. After realizing I could not afford to do everything I wanted, the revised plans and estimate were discussed and approved with a start date in early August 2014, and a revised estimated completion date of the end of November or early December 2014. Plans were gone over and a pre start meeting with the scheduling supervisor, Curt, and the job site supervisor, Steve, as well as Nate went well. Tear down began when promised. After the first few days things went much slower. There would be days, sometimes over a week with no work being done. I already knew we were waiting for the cabinets and doors and windows to be ordered, so I wasn't worried at first. I believed once things fell into place in the schedule there would be a lot of activity and things finished in an organized fashion. That was hardly the case. I had allowed an extra month on my daughters lease in case the project went over by a couple of weeks, so scheduled her to move back in after Christmas with her lease expiring on Dec 30. When it became apparent that the job would not be finished on time, or even by the end of December, due to totally preventable mistakes and improper scheduling, I called the owner. In a few days almost everyone involved in the build, including some of the subs, were at the house either working, or with Tom included, reassuring me that the job would get done. This was late November, already, and the house was not move in ready, by any means. After that flurry and many promises broken and more mistakes made, the job was completed today, May 28th, 20015. FIVE MONTHS LATE! My daughter moved back in in December 2014, and I moved in at the end of April, 2015, before completion. I never paid the last $3587.80 on the contract, and Kirk DevCo had not asked. ($10-12,000.00 was incorrect. I had not received the final invoice, which came after I initially submitted this.) I did not get a worry free, stress free remodel, and now believe I should have let my daughters do the subbing. They may not have done better, but the experience could at least have been no worse! POST SCRIPT: In response to this review Kirk DevCo may try to say that in at least two instances I was the cause of the delay, which is true. That was the case only because of a complete lack of communication by the scheduler, Curt, who did not explain ahead why I needed to make my decisions sooner, and never provided me with a schedule. In fact, when I questioned the timing my last response was, "You have plenty of time.", until the call came while I was out of town saying they needed to know what front door I wanted right then! Other delays were quality issues on the custom cabinets, measuring and/or directional mistakes on doors requiring re-orders, poor quality installation on widows and some doors, broken or defective windows not inspected before installation, requiring replacement, electrical fixture problems because the help I needed choosing appropriate wiring parameters for lighting was not forthcoming, and various other problems that scheduling and communication could have prevented. I was amazed, actually, why a company in business as long as they have been, with the certifications they have, and all the great reviews on Angie's List could have ever managed it if their operation always went the way it did with me. FINAL NOTE: Kirk Development did respond to my original review posted here May 28, 2015. I read it and am responding to it here: I did make a mistake regarding the final amount I owe, which I have corrected. The other claims I made about lack of communication, lack of a schedule, multiple mistakes that cost time, inconvenience, stress, and added cost to me still stands. I can't argue scheduling with specificity because I was never given one in writing. In addition, when I contacted Tom Sertich about not feeling I owed him any more money because of the problems encountered, I was sent a settlement, via their lawyer, to sign. It would have reduced my final bill to $1000.00, but only if I agreed to remove my negative review from Angie's List and refrain from any other negative feedback. I did not sign it, on principal that I should be able to say what I believe to be true, regardless. Now I am being taken to civil court. Updated 10/8/15

Response from Kirk Development Co
This project began September 30th as promised. Due to the extensive amount of work it was projected the project would take four months to complete. The job was substantially complete within three months and the daughter moved in at the end of December as promised. On January 5th we met with the Owner to review punch list items that we took care of. There were a few small scratches on the glass of a couple of installed windows which were manufacturer defects. Replacement windows were ordered and reinstalled when they came in. The cabinet company took care of some warranty issues that involved replacing some of the doors. The Customer said the lighting in the cabinets was too bright so the lighting was changed out. These items were completed with no cost to the customer. During the repair and replacement of these items, the customer was never inconvenienced. The Superintendent on the job communicated with the customer constantly and updated the customer of the weekly schedule. Upon completion the final bill was emailed to the customer in the amount of $3,800.00, the $10,000.00 to $12,000.00 referred to by the customer is incorrect. We are a Professional Design Build Remodeling Firm with over 35 years in business. We provide a high level of quality and customer service as reflected in the "great reviews" on Angie's List as referred by this customer. The above individual advised Kirk Development that she did not want us to get the permit. We have stated in our Agreement with her that she would get the permit and be responsible for all activities associated with the permit such as inspections. Customers and Architects do this on many occasions. When the customer or Architect gets the permit in their name they are responsible for all the inspections. The only permit that she was required to get was for electrical work. We always perform our work to code or exceed the expectations. There are no grounds for her comments. This whole review is only based on the fact that she does not want to pay her final bill.

Michael Lentine, the Project Superintendent did an outstanding job on my baseboards. He was very knowledgeable and helpful when I made my selections. I could tell right away how experienced he was in his field. Michael was very pleasant to work with and kept me well informed throughout the project as to when the materials were going to be delivered and what time the crew would arrive. He met the timeline he gave me, and did an amazing job on the baseboards. My house is 2,251 square feet and they finished it in less than a day and half. All of the guys in his crew were polite and pleasant to work with. They moved my furniture with care, covered the floors, cleaned up and moved everything back to where it was which was very important to me. I'm so happy with the quality of work they did I attached some pictures so you can see how nice they look. As I expected, Kirk Development did a fabulous job.
Description of Work: Installed new baseboard molding in my entire home.

Needed to get the guest bathroom done. Called Kirk and they sent Gary to take a look. We've used Kirk before so knew pretty much what to expect. Design ideas were right in line with what we were thinking and within a week we had Gary back out to give us the price and scope of work. Once the job started the guys stripped out the bathroom and shower. They installed a new vanity, granite top, toilet and we had a new custom tile shower put in. We needed extra water volume because there is a hand held personal shower as well as the standard shower head and I wanted to be able to use them both at the same time. This was no problem for them. Very professionally done and on time. Our friends are telling us what a great bathroom we have! Kirk has been here in the past and will be the ones we call when we do our room addition. Thanks Gary!
