Barry and I are still in discussion and have reached no conclusion.
Description of Work: I haven't yet settled on whether or not to go ahead with the project as it is much more expensive than I had anticipated. Kirk's representative, Barry Flemming, is the nicest man and I would really like to work with him. It is all a matter of finances.

"Expert" computer design to remodel a galley kitchen in an old house. Jake came out and listened to my "wants" and needs. He made some suggestions and went through his photo album/talking points. I told him I didn't need more storage but was open to his designs. We weren't sure about a wall that may or may not be load bearing. He said he'd get back to me in the following week. I had also requested an estimate on major repairs (via their company's "handyman") of a storm damaged front porch. I was sent, via email, a 3D design which wasn't impressive. He called and came back to discuss the design and possible remodel along with the company's handyman/estimator. The design had deeper cabinets and counter space (which I had said I didn't want). Much more storage (which I didn't need). A price of completion that was almost 50% the cost of my property's tax evaluation, with no real improvements on the current footprint/floorplan. I called the company's handyman to get the estimate on the porch work. I was told he would be calling me. He never did. Although Jake was a very amiable person, I have to say that I wouldn't really go back to Kirk Development Co. for further quotes or work. I guess I got $59 worth of work.

Poorly. No design was ever provided me nor did I ever receive a revised price.
Description of Work: It was relatively easy to set up an appointment with Kirk Development Co. Barry arrived and was very professional and friendly. He reviewed my bathroom layout and explored what I was possibly interested in having done in my bathroom remodel. He asked questions. Barry left and eventually I received a list of items that would be done along with a possible quote of $23,000.00-$25,000.00 for what I might want done. I asked him to revise my remodel and send me the design for which I paid $59.00 for on Angie's list as that was what I was looking for. Along with cost, I wanted to see what the finished product would look like. I asked for a revised price quote and I have never heard back from Barry.

We are doing our work in stages so that we can pay as we go therefore, it was a small project for Kirk Development but they treated it with the same professionalism and attention to detail as a more expensive project. What was unique about this work is that we were monitoring it from 1700 miles away. There is nothing more scary than having any work done while you are not there to monitor the project. We had friends checking in frequently and they were very impressed with the quality of the work and the professionalism of the workers. Everyone from the original estimator who came to discuss the scope of our project and offer suggestions, to the helpful and prompt office staff to the extreme professionalism of the project manager, electrician and other workers, was first rate. The project manager called frequently to provide updates of the progress of the work. This was very helpful and eased our anxieties of not being present during the project work. After the work was completed and we saw their work, we were very pleased with what we saw. There were a couple of minor concerns that were remedied immediately. The promptness with which they handled our concerns and the patience and kindness they demonstrated when we had questions or concerns, was of the highest quality. We have more work to do and we will definitely use Kirk Development Company for future projects.
Description of Work: We had a wall removed between the kitchen and living room. A support beam was installed since the wall that was removed was weight bearing. They rewired the kitchen, closed off one door and replaced the opening with brick to match existing brick and installed a new patio door.

Everything went very well, Gary was very pleasant and friendly, and was very upfront with what to expect. The price for the final project would have been high for what we wanted to do, but the prices seem on par with the quality that was being offered.

Things went well throughout the project. No big surprises other than the problems with my existing walls & electrical system
Description of Work: First, I was listening to "Rosie On the House" radio show when I heard about the Kirk Development Company. I decided to do some research and check them out. I found that they had a long standing great reputation and that they did quality work at reasonable prices. So I called them and Gary came out and talked with me about the remodel job of my back deck and long overdue bathroom remodel. I was really pleased with the quality of Gary’s designs and I really liked the innovative ideas that he presented. Functionality was really important to me and I’m glad that Gary presented his terrific ideas in an easy to understand, organized manner. My project superintendant; Nathan, started with the back patio and deck area. At first, this remodel greatly added to the pleasure of my back yard. But now, because we don’t have fencing in my community, people who walk by, come into my back yard to check out this fantastic layout. I'm very proud of it and I know that I really picked the best people to work with. Their remodel really added great value to my house. When they got their final design for the bathroom and all the materials arrived, they started immediately and got the job done in no time. Kirk’s full service approach saved me a lot of time and money rather than me shopping all over for the items on my own. They guided me to the right vendors and suppliers enabling me to make the best decision for my remodel. My superintendant, Nathan was really a pleasure to work with because he and his team of workers coordinated well together and they got the job done in an expedient, timely, manner and within budget. They overcame problems with my existing wall structure and electrical system. I was really pleased with Nathan and his crew because they showed on time just like he said they would. He always kept me informed of the steps taken on their plan and the progress they made. I especially liked the fact that they cleaned up after themselves every day before they went home. Nathan even took his own time to help me plan the design and hanging of several of my family pictures that I had put off doing for several years. Kudos and thanks to the whole crew and to the whole Kirk Development team! Donald G. Arsenault, CCIM

Steve is always who we work with. We appreciate their honesty at Kirk Development and the fact that they went to bat for us with our insurance company.
Description of Work: I first got in contact with Kirk Development after our water heater overflowed. We had a contractor through our insurance company that was just doing terrible work. We hired Kirk Development after hearing that they were good to come for a second opinion. After Kirk Development came and pointed out the faulty work done by the other contractor, our insurance company fired them on the spot. Since them, Kirk Development has been our go-to handyman service. We've used them for smaller projects like caulking around the sink and installing a wall mount for our flat screen TV. They are helping a soon for a bigger project installing an access door to our attic.

My husband and I thought we could save some money and paint the exterior of our house. The morning of, we ran into quite a few problems and decided this was not for us. We were referred to Kirk Development and are very pleased with the outcome. We had an experienced and professional gentleman named Nathan come and speak with us regarding painting the exterior of our home. We also needed a few areas patched up and was pleased to find out he could do that as well. Since colors and paints are not part of our expertise, Nathan was very nice in helping us pick out the right color and types of paints needed for not only our stucco walls but also our trim and screen doors. He was on time, he did exactly what we asked and also followed through with what he said he would do. We were very please with the results and will go back in the future for all our home renovation needs. It was worth every penny!!!

Horrible. Still waiting for completion. They seem to have no desire to finish or work on consecutive days. Told multiple times that there were priority projects that were more important.
Description of Work: Designer was inept and was eventually removed from job. Complaints were not addressed appropriately by him. Overbid change orders and were caught. Major design flaws with with electrical, framing that should have been part of initial design, because specifically aske for multiple times. 6 months in and not done with 800 sqft remodel of existing space and garage brought out front. Superintendent wouldn't take calls only text message even when he was at the site at same time we were. Didn't want to hear complaints about work. We are now at 4 weeks of electrical for 800sqft of open space, not done. I would not recommend this company to anyone. They frankly don't care. Got fooled by a lot of promises at beginning and reassurance. Don't let it happen to you.

I am writing this to thank all of Kirk Development for the outstanding and professional people who put this project together and made it such a success. Gary Tomich was our first contact with Kirk and put together an excellent project, architectural drawing, and bid. Tom Rohrer was truly outstanding. He made it happen, stayed on the time line, and brought in outstanding subs who were as much gentlemen and masters of their craft as was Tom. With each city inspection done, Tom was there to support and explain the project. If we ever have another major project, it MUST be with Tom in the lead. You have all been so helpful and supportive that I just wanted to thank you all. PLEASE make sure that everyone involved gets this message and knows how happy we are with the workmanship that has been accomplished. Sincerely, Bonnie and Lou Cornille
Description of Work: We had a 30 by 15 foot outside patio enclosed and added to the interior of our home. Existing windows and arcadia doors were removed and new Anderson Windows and doors were installed as a new exterior wall. All of this work required a new stem wall, framing, insulation, fire sprinkler system, duct work, and flooring.

First, I had a hard time getting someone to call me back from Kirk Development to schedule the appointment. When Barry came, he looked at the bathroom and said that since we weren't moving any walls, this wasn't a job that Kirk should do--we could do it ourselves. He did not do any plans but talked in general with me about house renovation projects. I feel very, very ripped off by Angie's List and by Kirk Development. Essentially, I paid $75 for absolutely nothing at all. Beware the Angie's List deals. This is the second one that has not turned out well for us.

We have been working on updating our house for a few years, but the exterior was very dated, with weeping mortar and wood overlays. Kirk Devco had done remodels in our area and did interior work for us on our previous house. The Kirk team met with a couple of times and helped coach us with ideas to really get a modern look to our house. They also did some of the demo early so we could see what the final product would look like. At each stage they met with us to make sure the project was to our liking, and consulted us on all decisions instead of just assuming things. Their project lead Greg was great. He took time to explain everything he was doing, which was especially helpful on the plumbing side since we really didn't know what was going on until they got in and looked at the main line. Even after the project was finished, their main guy Tom met with us to suggest additional things that could complement the work, most of which he suggested we could do ourselves to save some money. At each stage we discussed cost, and I really felt like they were helping us get the most out of our project without upselling us. We have used Kirk in the past (interior), but this was the first exterior project they did for us. I would absolutely recommend them to anyone, especially on older houses like ours where they seem to have a lot of experience. Great team, from start to finish.
Description of Work: We just completed a full remodel on the front of our house. We had all the paint removed from the brick, new windows installed and plumbing lines re-routed. This included new masonry (modern brick pony walls on the planters) and removing old wood overlays to expose the natural brick of the house. We also had the "weeping mortar" removed, and the grout lines were ground down to look like a more natural finish. At the same time, we remodeled the garage. We had the drywall removed from sections of the ceiling to create more storage on the inside. We also had the exterior changed to brick to match the rest of the house. Our house now has a modern look, with no more cooling issues (new windows) or plumbing backups (replaced section of main line).

It went well so far Gary gave great advice. It was the first time I went for design help, and was happy. It was fun!
Description of Work: I purchased the design package, to get advice on my kitchen area. Gary was great to work with, he is a design consultant. They will estimate some work in my kitchen and he made some excellent recommendations. They also seem flexible and willing to work out whatever budget is appropriate. They also have a handy man service for repeat customers that need smaller changes. A good company, professional and pleasure to work with. I look forward to seeing how it turns out.

First, the positives. The designer, Barry Flemming, was punctual and courteous, even friendly. I liked him. Now the rest of the story. I bought two of the recent Big Deals from this company, each for $59. I thought I would receive a design for a bathroom remodel and for a carport / garage conversion. Supposedly this design service is valued at $400 per project. Two weeks after taking measurements at our home, Barry delivered his "designs": a couple of hand sketched layouts with no dimensions on anything. I was astonished! THIS IS PROFESSIONAL?? I had done something very similar myself on a scrap of paper. What I expected was a topographic layout including dimensions of all fixtures, openings, cabinets, etc as well as at least one perspective rendering of what the finished space would look like. He also delivered a formal bid from his company to do the work on both jobs -- the only thing that had been generated by computer software. When I questioned Barry about this (thinking maybe this was only the first step in the design process and that we weren't through yet) he replied that the design package I had purchased only covered 4 hours of design work for each of the two projects. There is no way this result took 8 hours to design! Instead, I suspect that I paid Kirk Development 1 hour to do the designs and 7 hours to prepare a bid. Silly me. I thought purchasing a design would mean I'd actually get a design. I feel cheated.
Description of Work: The designer, Barry Flemming, came to my house. He took measurements of the bathroom space as well as the carport space. He spent time with me and my husband to understand what we were hoping to do with the two projects. This meeting, a combination of the two design projects we had purchased, took less than an hour. He came back two weeks later to present the results. This meeting took about ten minutes. Between the two meetings, he obviously took time to prepare the Kirk Development bid on each of the two projects. (Note: this is not what I purchased. I purchased a design not a bid.) It was not obvious how much time he spent developing a design. He delivered a hand-sketch with no dimensions or details.

This was an Angie's List "deal" for a bathroom remodel consultation and design. I see they're still running it but have dropped it to $58. Gary Wheat, the "designer", came out in early March to measure the master bathroom and discuss ideas. After 4 months of waiting and calls not returned we finally got a "design". It was a hand drawing of the new bathroom (Kirk can't afford a CAD system?) and a list of the work items to be done with a total price. No breakout of individual prices was shown. We will not be using this company ever for any other work.

We are sorry if there was a misunderstanding about the second meeting. Our sales representative did arrive at the house for the meeting, but there was no one home. We called the homeowner immediately to reschedule but they were not available. We were called later and were advised by the homeowners that they declined another meeting. We can design around the homeowner’s budget and no job is too small.

Scheduling the appointment with Barry Flemming was quick and easy. Barry came out on the scheduled date at the scheduled time. He discussed some ideas and took some measurements, and said we would hear from him in a few days. We have a very small galley kitchen and for the same remodeling job everyone else was quoting $12k - $15k including appliances and flooring, Kirk Development estimated by email $30k, not including pain, flooring, or appliances. We never received a "custom kitchen design", despite repeated requests. First Barry insisted he had sent it and said he would find it and resend it. When I followed up again he said he was on Jury Duty for the week and couldn't get me the design. More than two months later and after repeated requests, we've been absolutely unable to get the custom kitchen design we paid for. Experiences like this one make me nervous about partaking in the deals associated with Angie's list.

We contacted Kirk to do a kitchen remodel for us. Barry, their "kitchen designer," came out and spoke with us. He did not take any measurements, offered only one weird idea, was very rude and condescending, and provided only a rough guess total as an estimate. Because we really wanted Kirk to do the remodeling based on their Angie's reviews, we contacted the office about our concerns and they had another designer come out to talk to us. They sent Gary Wheat. By the time that Gary met with us, we had made most of the decisions about what we wanted done -- remove a wall between the kitchen and dining room, take out all the existing cabinets and flooring, move the countertops & range on one side of the kitchen down to accommodate a pantry, raise the window over the sink, and replace all the appliances. Gary took lots of measurements and photos and discussed each of our ideas with us. He provided a good perspective on what was do-able and offered several suggestions on how to tweak the design to make it look its best. We gave Gary a list of what we had chosen for the silestone countertop, floor and backsplash tiles and paint color. We agreed that we would contract separately with Cholla Custom Cabinetry for the cabinets, and purchase the appliances ourselves. Within a week, Gary provided us with a detailed estimate and we entered into a contract with Kirk. They did the demolition during the summer when we were gone, but we wanted to be present when the cabinet were installed and all the rest of the work was done. So, before we left for the summer, we met with Gary and representatives from Cholla and Kirk's subcontractors to set up a timetable for each element of the work so that when we returned in November everything could be finished in about a month. Gary met with the representative from Cholla during the summer to finalize the kitchen measurements and coordinate timing. We got a call from Gary in mid-summer saying that the wall being removed was load-bearing and permits would be needed. This required a Change Order. We were a bit surprised at the increased cost because it was our firm impression from our previous discussions that there would be no extra charge in the unlikely event the wall was found to be load-bearing. Nonetheless, we signed the Change Order. The day after we returned, the cabinets were delivered and installed the next day. The countertops and tiles were installed shortly thereafter. Due to the floors not being level, there was a slight glitch with the cabinet heights in order to accommodate the new window sill. The kitchen was finished on schedule with only a few punch-list items remaining. The kitchen is strikingly beautiful and exceeded our every expectation. Gary was key to making everything work. He took as much time as needed to discuss the details with us, and then to coordinate all the work. If not for Gary, we may not have been as pleased with the remodeling process. For example, when the project manager took over from Gary mid-way through the installation, there was less communication and it was often unclear when workers were going to show up. When we called Gary with our concerns, he made sure things were taken care of even though technically his job was substantially done once the planning and design phase was finished. We can't compliment Gary enough.

First appt went well and he showed up on time. He was over 2 weeks late on a simle kitchen remodel design. We then finally agreed upon a follow up meeting and he called and cancelled. We met with this customer for re-design of an existing island and re-location of a refrigerator. The design was simple, and it did take a while to make an appointment to bring the design out for the customer’s review, but because of scheduling conflicts, not because it was not done. We had an appointment set to come out, and unfortunately our designer had an emergency come up and had to go out of town. The customer was notified of the meeting change. He did not want to re-schedule. We mailed the design as he requested and asked him to review it and let us know if he needed any changes. We did not hear anything until this report online. As far as we knew, he was satisfied since we had done everything he requested. This is exactly why it is our policy to meet with people in person when we are presenting designs, so we can have the interaction with the customer and know right away if there is a problem.

Absolutely fantastic. Had interviewed four contractors. Kirk by far stood out to be the best choice. Was very impressed with all the national awards the company had won. As a 30 year resident of phoenix, Kirk has stood the test of time and had heard nothing but wonderful feedback form neighbors and friends. Their ideas and suggestions were extremely helpful. They provided a wonderful layout and with the computer software, showed me exactly what the finished results would look like. All the workers were friendly, clean and completely professional. The work went without a flaw. Amazed that they did everything they said they were going to do. Job was completed at the agreed price without any surprises, excuses or cost over runs or change orders. Contractors come and go in this city. Kirk Development has been around as long as I have lived here. There is a reason behind the longevity. Would definitely use them again and will not hesitate to refer them to others.
Description of Work: Kirk Development did a terrific job of remodeling my kitchen and both bathrooms. They were very neat, respectful, organized, on time, and excellent communication throughout the entire job.
