Description of Work: I scheduled J. Scott Refrigeration to service my central air conditioning unit and evaporation cooler on May 9, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. The technician arrived on time. He opened the air conditioning unit and cleaned out some debris from the return air vent. He said the coils were dirty and needed to be cleaned, but he didn't have the equipment to do it. I offered to let him use my air compressor or brush. He chose to use the brush, but stopped cleaning after a few seconds. Without checking with gauges, he said the air conditioning unit needed some Freon and proceeded to connect his tank of coolant to the unit. After a very short time, still without using gauges, he said that the unit was fully charged and without weighing the tank before or after adding the coolant, he said that he had added three pounds of coolant. I asked him if he was going to check for leaks and he said, ""No."" Please note that air conditioning units do not ""use up"" Freon; if the coolant is low it is because it has leaked out. The technician said that the condenser fan was unbalanced and might need to be replaced; I should have someone take a look at it. He then proceeded to ""service"" the evaporation cooler. He asked me what was wrong with it and I told him one of the pumps was not working. He said that the pump was bad even though it was brand new and that it would be cheaper for me to replace it than for him to do it. I agreed. He did not check the electrical system, cooler pads, blower motor, squirrel cage fan, or drive belt. If he had checked the belt, he would have noticed that it was badly frayed and cracked; it failed a few days later. He did not oil the bearings or bushings on the motor or fan. When I replaced the drive belt, one of the fan bushings was bad but he did not know this since he never checked them. He did not turn on the water supply or check the float operation. There were some areas on the duct work that the technician said needed to be taped. but he did not have enough tape. I supplied the tape. Although I told the technician that I wanted him to service the air conditioning unit and evaporation cooler, because I was getting too old to climb on the roof. I ended up making more trips up and down the ladder than he did in order to get him my tools and supplies for him to use. When he was finished, the technician threw his tank of Freon from the roof to the lawn below. The technician then said that the Freon was very expensive and that my costs were $120. The preceding report is factual. Subjectively: His methods of workmanship are unacceptable by any commonly accepted standards. He did not have the necessary tools or supplies. He did not do the work requested. The neglect of using gauges or scales while recharging the air conditioning unit is both dangerous and unprofessional. The fact that he did not check out most of the items on the evaporation cooler seems to indicate that he was more interested in showing up and collecting his fee rather than actually doing his work. This is not a company that I would ever consider allowing back on my property.

Description of Work: Fixed up a very old swamp cooler, so that it was working again nicely. I was afraid that the cooler was in such bad shape that it couldn't be repaired, and I figured that it would probably take hundreds of dollars to keep it working for another season. I was very pleasantly surprised when the whole thing cost less than fifty dollars!

Description of Work: We had the motor replaced on our A/C unit; it was covered under warranty. Two years ago, after a major hail storm our A/C unit was badly damaged, we called J. Scott Refrigeration for the repair. He worked with us and our insurance company to completely replace the unit and helped us qualify for a federal tax credit at the time, so essentially we paid $0 for a brand new A/C unit. He came promptly, the work was done efficiently and they cleaned the whole area up afterwards. Two years later, we had trouble with the motor ( a manufacturing error) and J. Scott once again came within an hour of our call and was able to replace the motor and fix the problem by the next day. The parts and labor was covered under warranty so we only had to pay a small shipping charge.

Description of Work: HE SERVICED MY AIR CONDITIONER. I FELT THE TECHNICIAN WHO CAME TO MY HOME TO REPAIR & SERVICE MY AIR CONDITIONER WAS THOROUGH & HONEST. HE WAS UP-FRONT ABOUT EVERYTHING HE DID TO OUR UNIT. HE HAD FRIENDLY FAST SERVICE, AS WELL.
