Our first mistake was assuming because they did a good job on our roof, they'd do equally as well on our deck. Wrong. It was a nightmare! We had to have them rip up the decking twice because first the "wood" didn't come from the same batch and so didn't match, the second time because of horrible workmanship. This job drug on for months. The first person Jimmy Thompson hired supposedly walked off the job. The second people Jimmy Thompson hired to do the job was his sister and brother-in-law and they obviously did not know what they were doing...nor did he for that matter! An issue arose about the new deck being too heavy so they ended up installing ugly wood supports under it, encased in ugly square cement foundations; they never even came back to remove the wood forms. We had the local building inspector look at the job and he declared the railing unsafe. We got so tired of arguing with this man. We had other contractors look at the job on the days they didn't show up and they affirmed that the job was NOT being done properly. The end result was we just gave up arguing with the man and called his partner back east and reported the shoddy workmanship to him, the ineptness of his partner and threatened to sue. The partner offered to buy back the used decking materials. Since we had only paid the down payment of $5,350 we finally ended up dropping the whole matter. As a result, we now have an ugly, UNSAFE deck and railing. You can move the railing back and forth and with any effort could push it off of the second floor easily. The material product they sold us was supposed to never stain nor have any maintenance but it HAS stained. The stairway they installed leading up on the deck is ridiculous! The railing at the bottom of the stairs begins about 5 feet in the air! Don't EVER HIRE THESE PEOPLE TO DO A DECK!!
Description of Work: These people did well installing our steel roof so when we mentioned we wanted our deck replaced with a non-wood alternative that would last and have little or no maintenance and they said they could do it, we contracted for them to do the job. They tore off the old redwood deck and railing and replaced it with a contracted price tag of $15,843.
