About us

We are a general contractor with the owners on site and hands on with our workers. Most work is done in house. Our subcontractors have been doing business with us for over a decade. Most small projects do not require a deposit, we simply ask for a check after your job is complete, you are happy and we are on the way out the door. Larger projects require payments defined prior to start of work. The most important things we believe makes a successful project is not only doing a quality job, but to always leave you at the financial advantage for peace of mind.

We absolutely loved working with Chris- HR Contracting LLC. From the very beginning and throughout our projects my husband and I were so impressed by Chris’ professionalism, his organizational skills, and his integrity. He is the best contractor we have ever worked with. Chris transformed our tiny master bathroom into a showstopper. This project required someone who has a lot of creativity and the ability to think outside the box and boy did Chris deliver- he is a rock star. Chris takes great pride in his work, as he should, and treats your house and your project as if it was his own home. His tile and glass subcontractors were also very professional and committed to the highest quality of work. This was the best remodel experience we have had and that is due to Chris. He is just a a pleasure to work with. If you can get him to take on your remodel project you will not regret it. We feel so very fortunate that Chris was willing to take on our project. He is the best!

If I could give A++ for the work I would. Patrick and Robert were excellent. The quality of the work was outstanding - even the extra shelf in the closet I asked for was custom made to match the existing shelves so the new one looks like it was there all along. The LED lighting was installed beautifully and we love it. The care taken with the fireplace work was remarkable - Robert cleaned and tidied up after himself every day and despite the dust generated, the plastic 'tent' he put up protected the house from most of it. We are delighted with the work done and wouldn't hesitate to recommend them (indeed, we will be working with them again in the summer when we update our master bathroom!). They are the best contractors we have ever worked with.
Description of Work: Remove old gas fireplace and replace with new electric one, build several shelves in living room, pantry and closet, install LED under cabinet lighting in kitchen, and build a custom shoe rack.

The fireplace that we chose to add to our home was not one the designs that they frequently built, but they were happy to work with us to created exactly what we wanted. Chris and his crew were amazing. They have renewed my faith in contractors. They showed up when they said they would,. They were peasant to work with, efficient and neat and above all completed the job beautifully and on time. I will be contacting them for all my future projects. This above and beyond type of service is rare these days and needed to be acknowledged.

Patrick was very professional and kind from my first contact with him. I had a small job, just a wooden mantel shelf hung on an existing 3D stone fireplace but Patrick still treated me with the same regard as if I had a major project. Communication was excellent and he was on time. Patrick is very knowledgable and a perfectionist when it comes to his work. My fireplace mantel turned out beautiful. I look forward to hiring him in the future to do additional work since he is a contractor. I highly recommended HR Contracting LLC.

I contacted HR contracting LLC and Chris came to my home to give me an estimate on having my downstairs master bathroom completely remodeled and to quote me for tile for the kitchen backsplash, area under the bar, and butler's pantry. I thought Chris had great customer service. At the time of his bathroom quote he took extra time to explain to me how to clean my gas fireplace and helped me figure out how to get the switch on the wall to work (conversation led there, he wasn't at my home to do anything but quote for the bathroom and tile). I though he really went above and beyond the call of duty and his price was awesome but it took me a couple of weeks to pick out my tile. We emailed each other a few times and he was very responsive and prompt ( the only reason I am not giving him an F is because up to that point everything was EXCELLENT). So I picked out my tile and told him I was ready to book the backsplash work ( this experience was to help me decide about hiring him for the bathroom, plus I wanted to tile the fireplace, I have 2 bathrooms upstairs I wanted to redo and I own investment properties that I was interested in possibly hiring him for remodeling, overall there could have been a possibility for over 50k in work, so I hope he didn't just judge me on this being a small job). Once I picked the tile the emailing communication from Chris became vague and after not hearing anything for a few days he told me he was out of town and would get back to me but no date as to when that would be. There were a few emails exchanged with the same non commitment and I ended my last email to him with one last chance to get back to me within a few days with either a set date or an expectation of when he thinks he will have something booked. I never heard back from him which was a terrible disappointment. At this point I would be afraid to hire him due to the communication failure. Again, it started out great but quickly ended poorly and my reasoning for not giving an F grade is with the consideration of the beginning experience.

We did drop the ball on this and apologize. I went in for a routine dental visit and ended up in the hospital twice over the course of 3 weeks with a serious infection and Chris had to take over my responsibilities which included scheduling, material purchasing, job site inspections, estimates and customer interaction in addition to those same duties on projects he oversees. Unfortunately it was a bit overwhelming and affected the response time to potential clients as he had to prioritize active projects being the ones requiring immediate attention to maintain schedule and quality. To avoid this happening again we have designated two lead men to assist with those duties and if necessary, will bring in a temporary assistant. Again, our apologies for any inconvenience and hope your project was a success.

Patrick came out to our house to visually understand what we were looking for and where we wanted the fireplace. In our case, the work required Chris and Morgan to tear down an outside wall, remove 8' long wood indoor shutters and accompanying window, and plan for the intersection with the roof line. We wanted a stucco chimney, with a cap, and a zero clearance fireplace inside (minimal floor space). As for our fireplace, we wanted a very large custom built gas fireplace, with a 3 tier gas log holder, a tile surround on the exterior of the fireplace and on the floor just in front of the fireplace. We also wanted a solid wood dentil, mantel and wood surround covering the outer edges of the fireplace tile. Their work was very laborious -- like setting up the gas pipeline from the outside of the outside, through the attic, to the actual fireplace. Additionally, they had to build the outside frame for the chimney, which they later stuccoed and painted. Chris had team specialists come out to do this work, which he supervised. All went perfectly. In fact, when the painting was completed, the fellow who did it wound up painting the rest of the back portion of the house, so the paint on the chimney would not look different than that which was on the house. We were very impressed by this integrity. Morgan is the artistic person of the team, and he is the one who recommended the final design and modification to the fireplace surround. He explained that because of the size of the fireplace, our surround needed to be taller than we originally planned. He was absolutely RIGHT!!! This one change has made friends an family just conclude our fireplace is one of the nicest they have ever seen in their lives. He is a perfectionist and made sure all measurements were absolutely perfect -- hence, no mistakes at all!! The whole building process was kept very tidy and clean throughout. They were very careful each day to clean up and to minimize messes. Additionally, they had no loud radio (as some vendors do) music, which we appreciated. They just quietly went about their work day in and day out. They had very hard labor at times, and they just worked so well together to get the task completed. All of the fireplace supplies were picked up by Chris and Morgan and everything arrived intact. No delays due to missing parts etc. The tile installation for the surround went in fine as well. The person who did the tiling work for Chris, actually made a recommendation on how best to cut the tile that was sitting on the floor in front of the fireplace. Once again, because of his experience, he was right. It turned out way better than our original plan and we are happy we went with his recommendation. So the bottom line for us is this. If you want an incredibly hard-working, conscious, team of workers, led by a highly experienced, easy going leader, then Chris, Morgan and team are the professionals you are looking for. They were punctual EVERY single day and when they said they would be. Once they started the job, they did not stop to work on other projects except the days when the town inspectors were scheduled to be here. Chris and Morgan gave it their all just as if they were building the fireplace for themselves. Finally, the fireplace was completed and Chris remembered one tiny thing he forgot to do up on the roof and returned the very next morning, ladder in hand to make the tiny fix (about 10 minutes worth of work). The only slow down in the project was due to the multiple inspections required and the long delay by the towns people doing this work. Plan for this, because this caused a several week delay and at least 5 inspections were needed. There is also at the outset of the project, approval by the town's people of the fireplace blueprint. Again, this took quite a bit of time to get reviewed and approved -- but out of Chris and Morgan's hands. They regularly followed up, only to learn plans had not been reviewed yet etc. etc. This was the only frustrating part of the project for ALL of us -- including Chris and Morgan. Bottom-line Chris and Morgan and team are AWESOME!
Description of Work: Patrick served as the overall contractor, and we had minimal contact with him except to set up the contract. Our interactions with Patrick went extremely smooth and for what we wanted -- a custom built large gas fireplace -- we thought he gave an incredibly fair price. His project leader Chris Heller, and project associate Morgan were the two that we interacted with on a daily basis from beginning to end. They were absolutely, without a doubt, two of the very very best vendors we have ever had the pleasure of knowing. Their work was impeccable, they were punctual, focused on their work, and diligent about conveying anything newsworthy to share with us. Bottom line for us they were AWESOME and we'd have them back to do more work for us in a heartbeat.

I was given an estimate for a fireplace installation. The estimate did not relect what I had discussed with this contractor, and he refused to follow up with a quote. It apparantly was assumed that I, the homeowner, would take care of securing the permits and scheduling the inspections, though this was not mentioned in the estimate. Beware any contractor who wants the homeowner to handle the permits. Usually a red flag. I would not recommend this contractor to anyone - poor, or no, follow up communication. Does not listen to the homeowner, or just chooses to ignore the homeowner's preferences. He makes a lot of promises which, I suspect, are mostly BS. This is my first experience with a angie"s list recommended contractor, and it will be my last.

Response from HR Contracting LLC
Met with Mr. [member name removed] on 12-18, Wednesday. He was not sure which fireplace he wanted to use and through his indications I suggested a few in what I believed was his price point. While awaiting his decision of fireplace from a seperate supplier I wrote a detailed estimate with an average cost of the style of fireplace he was looking for and sent that estimate on 12-22, Sunday. The discussion regarding the permit was whether he wanted to do it to save money on the foot work as he indicated he had a tight budget and when he indicated that he would prefer I obtain the permit the process started. Whenever I recognize budget restraints I try to work with the client to make their project affordable and I stand behind the suggestion of him taking the paperwork down to obtain the permit. I absolutely never indicated verbally or in writing that he would have to call the inspections as that would hinder my production schedule if someone was not attentive enough to follow through in a timely fashion and since we are accustomed to doing that regardless of who pulls the permit it would have never entered my mind to suggest such a thing. Between December 22nd and December 31st there were 16 email communications in addition to several phone calls and I would be happy to forward all emails to anyone who requests them. I would also be happy to provide the names and numbers of as many references as you wish. I believe the real issue was Mr. Schmidt chose one of the most expensive fireplaces available and found this was too costly of a project or became frustrated at the selection process. Unfortunately, he chose to take that frustration out on our company.
