The units had not been serviced in years so although I originally used the Angie's List coupon, that was only for a routine check. The service cost more to get the units fully cleaned and serviced. A bit of a hard sell on which "service" package was needed. The $500 service included this cleaning, new capacitors, and service to be done on both heat pumps in the fall. The remaining $400 was for freon in both units.

Very professional, kept me informed during inspection and returned with options for repairs. They were flexible and accommodating to my schedule, price point and respectful of my home. I will use this company again.

Another vendor on Angie?s List had told me earlier in the year that my 15 year old system needed to be replaced. Howard Air seconded that motion based on their diagnosis. At this point in time, my system was no longer working so it became an emergency to have it replaced. Brian (one of their salespeople) came out and we discussed all of the options. Brian is a very nice guy and he is very honest. He gives Howard Air an excellent and professional image. He was very knowledgeable and did an exceptional job of educating me on each available system. I selected the system I wanted and the work was scheduled. He was able to schedule the replacement for the next day and believe me, when your house feels like a sweat box, it sounds really good to have the work done right away. A team of two men came out to perform the all day project. They worked hard all day, wore shoe covers to protect my carpet, didn?t damage the house, and I had nice, cold air by the end of the day. What more could I expect? This is a large project and there was only one glitch. The guy who normally designs the metal boxes that direct air to and from the evaporator in the attic (sorry, I?m not an expert on cooling systems) was on vacation and the boxes ended up being slightly too small. This caused too much air pressure and noise from some of the vents. I called them back out and they had their normal designer come back out to assess the problem (he had returned from vacation). He quickly determined the problem and made sure the parts were redesigned and another team was sent out to reinstall the boxes. The system now works perfectly and is still doing a wonderful job of cooling 7 months after the installation. I believe that I have a high quality installation. This was a large project and on any large project, things can sometimes go wrong. To me, the important thing is that once I reported that there was an issue they took care of the problem, no questions asked. They seem to be a very professional and high integrity company. I would definitely use them again, no question about it.

Found Howard Air on Angies list and decided to use them for our new home, AC Summer service/checkup. The tech that showed up to do the work, wasn't the most talkative person and I felt like he felt he had better places to be when I tried to get a more detailed answer so I could make a more informed decision on work that needed to be completed. The service he provided was fine and I had no issue with his work. To me though, I just don't feel like I would want to use Howard Air again because of this.

This was the first time I've used Howard Air for my A/C service. I was very pleased with all aspects of the service. The agent who set up my appointment was very professional. The technician came to the house on-time and was also very professional. My A/C unit is on the roof, he took pictures of some additional wear on my 9 year old unit and recommended a fix. The work was done in a timely fashion and was reasonably priced. I will definitely use Howard Air again for my A/C need.s

They showed up at scheduled time. Checked thermostat and changed filter inside. He cleaned up after himself inside, which was greatly appreciated. Then he went up on the roof to check and clean out the dirt in my unit. After he was done, he explained every step he did. There were no issues that I needed to fixed.

Everything went well, with one exception: I was sold one model (specific model # provided on quote), but the one that showed up was slightly different (same model and size, but one character on the product code number was different than what was on the quote, which indicated that it was an "older" version). Upon checking the "manufacture date," I saw that this unit was manufactured over 2 years ago. I immediately informed the installers of this discrepancy and the sales guy drove down with the correct condensor (outside) unit in his pickup truck, which resolved the matter to my satisfaction. Other than that, the quality of the work, the cleanup, etc. was great, which is why I have now used them for 2 heat pump installations.

The inspector was on time, professional and seemed to do the work contracted. What I did not feel comfortable with was the listing of repairs and options for payment that was presented after the inspection. I felt like I let someone in my door whose mission was to sell a maintenance package. Last year the inspector from Howard Air spent twice the time on the system and did not present me with the sales pitch. That is why I liked them and had them back.

The difference in our technician’s presentation of fact findings has changed from last year when we visited your home last. We found that the explanation of what is "needed" and what is "suggested" could easily be confused, so we developed a new process which you were presented with. We have had very much success with it, which allows our customer to see the value of a maintenance agreement with its benefits in regards to repairs. Received a courtesy call the day before. Called 45min. before, then tech arrived within time frame given. Price was higher than some but seemed worth it. Took his time, spending over an hour. Was very courteous and professional, did not try to upsell. Would definitely call back for any future needs.
Description of Work: Tech did a spring A/C tuneup on our 2 A/C units. Checked outside units and then cleaned them. Went up in the attic to check the air handlers and coils.

I have two heat pump units. One was freezing up. The technician came out and determined that the unit had been wired incorrectly almost 10 years before. He re-wired the unit. I had purchased an Angies List deal to check up the other unit. The technician then worked on the second unit. Total time spent was about an hour between the two units. He did a good job explaining what was needed and did not upsell.

Member, we are confused by this review for a few reasons: We originally were invited to your home in the beginning the hot month of June 2012 to diagnose your non-working system. We offered a FREE second opinion and diagnosed your 18 year old systems for repairs. We also provided a detailed proposal for the replacement of your systems for your information. Since our visits back in June we have not heard from you until recently in April this year which you purchased two coupons at a discount for members only. Once again we evaluated your systems with a list of items you should consider in order to prevent issues this summer. They were prompt and did exactly what they were supposed to do. They found some issues that needed addressed sooner rather than later. They wrote a detailed diagnosis about their recommendation for the upcoming summer. We will call them back to execute it soon.

Denis was on time and performed the task with minimum fuss.
Description of Work: Denis cleaned and evaluated our air conditioning unit, which is 15 years old and on its last legs. He had to do some rewiring in order to make it work enough to evaluate it, which was his only additional charge. He let us know that it is a temporary fix, and gave us an estimate on what he would have to replace to make it work well, but suggested we go with a new unit instead. There was no sense of high pressure sales, and he answered our detailed questions unhurriedly and patiently, and in great detail. My husband always wants to understand exactly how everything works and why each recommendation is made. Denis is the first service person we have had who answered my husband's questions to his satisfaction, which is saying a lot.

I was genuinely impressed with the installers Jeff and Gary. They called the morning of the install to inform me they were on their way, gave me an ETA which they beat by about five minutes. Both men were professional, polite, clean and caring about the job they do. They again gave me an ETA for the install with best and worse case sernarios which ended being completed right in the middle ot the time estimated. This was kind of a brutal install because the old handler unit it could not be removed through the scupper hole up to the attic space but had to be done by removing the exterior gable. The guys had to maneuver the old unit out the gable hole and down to the ground with out scraping our newly painted exterior wall. After they were done, they had to replace the gable to the original condition which they did accomplish. There was a small snafu with the new registers in that they were given two which were the wrong size. Since the register change out was the last thing they did it was too late in the day, on a Friday for someone to deliver the correct size. Jeff said they would be working the next day on Saturday and asked if it were ok to bring the correct registers then or come back on Monday. We asked them to come back on Saturday which they did, with the correct parts and completed the job. I conversed with both Jeff and Gary and actually learned a few things about how to better utilize and care for my new A/C unit......something I wish I had done years ago. This unit was just installed a few days ago and it has not been warm enough to run the new unti so I am hoping it works well for years to come. I had five companies supply me proposals, and only two followed up with me after sending the proposal, one of those was Scott Bird with Howard AIr. Only two proposals were professionally done, again one was Howard AIr. Howard Air truely the only company of the five I had make proposals which proved to me they wanted by business and then they backed it up with their installation team.
Description of Work: They replaced my twenty three year old A/C unit. Added flex duct and new air intake "bar" type grill to reduce the noise. They also added flex duct and a new intake grill to the second A/C unit which I had replaced a few years ago to try to reduce the wind noise we get when the unit runs.

They came to perform an AC tune up, professionalism since the moment they were at the door until the follow up of a new AC quote, seriously I strongly recommend Howard Air, I had several companies before Howard Air, they just came, did something charged and out of there, these guys spend an enourmous amount of time trying to fix what ever was fixable, they showed me photos and everything, made suggestions and only at the end they suggested (comparing the cost/duration to fix against a new unit), and what a delight to deal with Scott Bird, he made his homework before showing at my home, he has everything figured out (I called 3 different companies, and by far and I mean by far nobody showed the professionalism and knowledge this guys showed, one big company came, gave me a list of prices and flew away...??????). I have to be honest at the end, even that I wanted to go with them I choose a cheaper quote from another company, we just wanted to have something for a couple of years and then sell the house, but these guys are good, and affordable, do not get me wrong, I went with another company because what they were giving a different configuration of my system (not necessary the best).

We had purchased a Home Owner's Warranty Policy when we purchased our home in 2006. We purchased this coverage to cover the large appliances in our home - particularly the Air Conditioning system as it was old when we bought the house. When it did fail this spring we learned that the insurance was worthless - the repair or replace policy sold to us and that we have been paying for the past seven years was worthless. We are filing a complaint with the Attorney Generals office against this insurance company. So, here we are with a non-functioning AC system at the beginning of the hot season in Phoenix. We had heard and read many good things about Angie's list and decided to join to get a recommendation for an AC contractor that was highly rated. We chose to call Howard Air since they are so highly rated by your list and had so many positive reviews. We have been delighted so far with the professionalism and thoroughness of this company. We have chosen to upgrade our 22 year old split system heat pump to a new roof mounted Carrier package heat pump unit that will not only be more efficient but will distribute the heated and cooled air more effectively due to the relocation of the cold air return by the very professional salesperson. The most amazing thing is that Howard Air sent a used unit to be installed temporarily to cover our needs until the new unit is installed in a few weeks! Extraordinary service offered at not additional cost to us. The very competent and professional technician showed up on time this Saturday morning and spent several hours removing and replacing our old unit with a used one - AC only - and got use set up with cooled air for the next few weeks. We will recommend this company to anyone.

It went fine. It was working fine. It was a preventative check making sure everything is working before the summer hits here in Phoenix. The guy seemed competent. I wasn’t up there, so I couldn’t see what kind of a job he did. But he seemed conscientious. It seemed a little pricey. I could have declined, but it was my choice. I thought it was a little on the expensive side for what they were doing, but it was worthwhile having. They are great. With regard to quality, I can't tell because I wasn’t up there. With regard to responsiveness, they were good. I would certainly get estimates from them. I might look at other companies that were highly rated by Angie's List as well.
Description of Work: I purchased a big deal from Angie's List for Howard Air for an air-conditioning tune-up. I also put in some leak sensors in the air conditioning unit so that if the drainage pans overflowed, it would set them off.
