Air conditioner quit working. Its an inexpensive 12 year old unit. Showed up on time. Could have tried to sell us a new unit but replaced a part instead. Also thought coolant needed a refill but discovered it didn't. AC has been working great since then.

The technician, Dave, arrived within the specified time and called a half hour before the appointment to let me know he was on his way. Dave advised me of what he would be working on and how long it would take. He advised me about a part that was necessary to keep my air conditioner working properly and gave me the price, and I agreed to having the part replaced. The aspect of this service call I appreciated the most was that Dave did the work I requested without a sales pitch of selling me a contract or speaking negatively about prior work done on my air conditioner nor the brand of air conditioner, which I have gotten from every other company that has come out to do the yearly tune up in the past seven years. Dave was professional and gave me information on Howard Air's service plans and suggested adding a part to my air conditioner. From making the intial call for the appointment to Dave completing the work, I was very impressed with Howard Air and would recommend them to friends and family.

Not well - it was easy to identify the problem; but the repair cost was astronomical for a routine repair. All I need was the motor replaced (less than a $200 part); but they wanted to charge me $802 for the repair. When I questioned why they were charging so much labor; they said that they charge by the type of the repair and not the time it takes to repair it. Their rational was that there are times that the service tech would need to leave the house to go be a part and return to the house which is very time consuming. So they just take an average time spent and use that as their fixed labor cost for the repair. Well in my case, they had the part and would have taken them less than 2 hours total (diagnostic and repair time) and they wanted to charge me over $600 labor - over $300/hr. Anyway, I am out the $88 service fee as I was not about to pay that amount in labor. They were nice and professional, but I felt their fees were very unreasonable.

We were told that we would have to replace our whole system by a different company. Howard Air told us that we didn't need that work done and saved us a lot of money. I would recommend them to other.

Howard Air did fix the issue so far, but I'm not sure that I would use them again.
Description of Work: Howard Air spring air-conditioning tune up. I had a weird problem with my air conditioner, he came out to fix it. He did recharge the freon gas that leaked.

I appreciate honesty... I really do and it's so refreshing when the folks at Howard Air were honest with me regarding a scheduling issue! I can't add more to previous reviews cause they mainly say it all. Howard Air has great prices, professional workers, etc. What stood out for me was obviously their honesty. I called to schedule a checkup of our A/C before summer started and had to call back a short time later to change the date to a day later. Somewhere mis-communication occurred (could have been me too) and they didn't come on the new date. The first person I spoke with didn't understand what had happened so referred me to another person (a supervisor maybe). He got on the phone and said "listen, I could make something up but basically we dropped the ball. Can I send somebody out later in the day or would another day be more convenient?". How cool! They were out later that day and did a great job. Keep at it Howard Air!!!!!!

I had requested Howard Air to do a service check on my AC / Heat Pump before summer. It had been a while since this had been done and there were several smaller things wrong and a motor that needed to be replaced. Christian was the tech that came out to perform that service. He told me about the problems and talked to me the options I had. He wrote up an order to repair everything he found. I decided to replace the unit and to upgrade to a more effecient model. Will came to my house the next day. He checked room sizes, how many windows I have and their sizes to see if the AC unit I had was the right size, the air temperature coming out of the vents in each room, and the condition of the insulation in the attic and the ductwork. He talked to me about the different models and the brands Howard Air recommends, any incentives being offered by Howard Air as well as any incentives being offered by the manufacturer for the brand and model I might have installed, as well as incentives from APS. And he was able to schedule the installation sooner than normal to meet my schedule and allow me to get the discounts and incentives offered. Ron and Kyle were the 2 installers. They called ahead to let me know they were on the way and arrived within the time frame given by the office the day before. They put in a new connector to the ductwork and removed the old unit and the evaporative cooler that had not been used for many years. After the work on the roof was done, they installed a new thermostat and went through the instructions with me. They set it up the way and temperatures I wanted. They cleaned everything up and left the site like it was. Considering this purchase was not expected (but not surprising), I felt the experience was positive. I will not hesitate to call Howard Air in the future for any problems I may have and would recommend them to my friends.
Description of Work: Replaced 15 year old AC/Heat Pump that had several repairs that needed to be done. Replaced unit instead of repairing and waiting for trouble to happen. Upgraded to unit with 2 stage process and a higher SEER rating.

Howard Air took a long time. The serviceman came out at the scheduled appointment time and he needed to do some kind of a test that he couldn't do that day because it was too windy. I had to call him back a couple times to get him to reschedule it. He finally came back out and did it. He had to order the part it needed and when he came out to replace it the part was the wrong one so it took another week to get the right one in. They came right back out and fixed it but it wasn't a great experience.

Unfortunately, there are only two places in the valley to purchase Rheem equipment parts. Since the part was under warranty we have to choose one company to submit the claim with. The company we chose to order from admitted to sending the wrong part to us and we knew that this would not be acceptable. This is why we performed a temporary repair to ensure your home would get cooling while we expedited a second order of the correct part. Although, this was an isolated instance we hoped you saw we did everything in our power to correct the issue. We went as far as paying over $300 to overnight the part to our offices. We truly hope to have the opportunity to serve you in the future and regain your business.

The company was great at follow up. They called me the day before to remind me of the service and then the day of, I received a call from the technition. When it was known that the technition would be late, I received a call from the company letting me know and they gave me the option of rescheduling or continuing with my service. I liked the option and courtesy. They technition performed the service as expected and provided me a diagnosis for why two of my rooms were hot spots. I felt very comfortable with having him in my home and I did not feel that they were trying to upsell me to seek additional costs. I believe that the technition was new as it took him over 2 hours to do the service.
Description of Work: Howard Air provided a tune up for both of my AC units to prepare for the summer ahead.

The technician arrived 2-3 hours later than told by office. I suggested to have the office call me in the future if he was going to be that late. (would have been a problem if I had to be at work) He was professional and courteous and performed insections and tests as expected. Would use again.

The installers were on time, cleand up after themselves and were very professional. It took the entire day as they rerouted the return line to cut the noise and had to run a new line because the original line was kinked causing the AC to work harder. The sales rep stopped by during the install and also a few days later to see how the every thing was going. I will definately use Howard Air to service the unit in the future.
Description of Work: We had the AC serviced for the summer but knew it was on its last legs and the electric bill were going up. They suggested we have the sales rep contact us and we said OK. Besides the high electric our unit was noisy both at the unit and at the return in the hall. The Sales Rep explained the choices to us and how we would cut the electric bill and decrease the noise.

I was not pleased. I have seen things cheaper with other deals so I am not happy I purchased it. I wanted my AC to service and they just came to sell me stuff. It is exactly what I did not want. It is working great and I wanted it to keep working great. I was left with a feeling that they did not service and clean it. They were polite, attentive, and explained things well.

The guy from Howard Air did a thorough evaluation, showed us various issues with the systems and said both had outlived their expected life spans by 5 years or more. Nevertheless, he felt that one system should last easily at least another 1-2 years and the second one might too. He said he would not invest any money in buying parts for the current systems. He thought we could wait at least a year and look into replacing one or both and that much better more efficient systems were now available. He cleaned all the areas he could get to. (We live in dusty AZ.) We thought he was very experienced, competent and thorough, and articulate in explaining things in a way we could understand. And we loved the fact that he didn't push anything on us, just gave us various options. For sure, we will use Howard Air in the future and will call them when it's time to replace our systems.
Description of Work: We had Howard Air check our two heating-A/C systems because we had been told a year ago that the bearings were going bad and we needed to buy various (expensive) parts for both systems.

They came quickly for the estimate and performed the installation quickly because I was only in town for a short time. They were very complete and explained the new equipment and how to use it. The only complaint I had was they had to come back to repair the insulating spray on material that protected the roof.

We use Howard Air because they are a certified Trane dealer and employe NATE certified technicians. The company's customer service is great; the phone is answered in a friendly voice within a few rings (seldom put on hold or go to voice mail) and you are connected with the right person the first time. The technician is always on-time and greets me with a big smile and takes a minute to ask "how my day is going"....so nice to hear.

The entire process was effortless. Before I purchased the "Deal" I called the contractor to ask a few questions about what actually would be done. Everything was explained. After I made my purchase, I called and talked to the same person and we set up the appointments. He had already received the info from Angie's list. Description of Work: Examined and tuned up cooling system. The contractor examined the entire system from the attic to the unit outside. It was a thorough examination and he listed everything he did on the invoice.
