The air conditioner was very noisy, and he told us why. The ball bearings were loose in the condenser. We have a home warranty, and the warranty will not cover any repair for a loud noise. We had to wait until the air went out, which happened 2 weeks later. He told us it could be 2 weeks or 2 years. No fault of the inspector, that I'm aware of, though. He was very thorough and professional.

Howard Air came to give us their cleaning & inspection special on our two HVAC units. They were courteous when called and told me who would be coming to do the work on the appointed day. Julio arrived on time, was very courteous, went over the units with care, and located a wire that the previous owner had most likely disconnected, and offered to reconnect it for us for a nominal fee. Julio also gave us some information about our units that we did not receive from the house inspector 10 months ago when we bought our house and that we may want to remedy in the future.

This is the second year in a row we used the Angies List Big Deal to have the A/C unit maintained by Howards Air. The technician was professional. While he did suggest a specific repair beyond routine maintenance, he didn't push it (in fact he even suggested that I might just wait if I am going to have the unit changed in the near future). On the whole his work was fine. A few weeks after this however, our A/C compressor died as it sprung a leak inside and we had to replace the unit. But I didn't think it had any connection to the A/C maintenance. From what I could tell, no one could have seen it coming.

He was extremely professional, polite and knowlegeable. He spent time (was here for a couple of hours) looking over everything- outside and up in the very hot attic, and reading the temperatures at various vents. He spent a lot of time to review his findings with us, and to suggest simple ways to make our system run more effectively, for example, the best way to set thermostats for day/night use, and the best type of filters to use, etc to maximize airflow and efficiency. They have come out two more times since our inspection in June- (in early and late July)- in each case the capacitor failed (one per unit) and the unit was not functional. They came out promptly- within 24 hours, and the fix was reasonably priced. We had a great experience each time.
Description of Work: We purchased two $69 summer inspection and cleaning "big deals through Angie's List- we have 2 units. The serviceman came out and did a thorough inspection and cleaning of each system, as well as recharged the refrigerant in one of our units, which cost extra (we suspected that would need to be done). Service was great.

I'd recommend Howard Air to anyone who needs a new air conditioner. They explained everything they were doing. They were timely, worked quickly and efficiently, and cleaned up before they left. They had to move the thermostat in my home, and they made arrangements for a subcontractor to come and repair the wall. The subcontractors were equally as good as the Howard Air people.
Description of Work: Howard Air checked the condition of my air conditioner and advised that because it was old, it was having some issues. They advised me about the pros and cons of making repairs, doing nothing, or buying a new unit. The Howard Air employee was very polite and not pushy at all. After considering the information he gave me, I decided to purchase a new unit.

They rescheduled us because of other customers who had air conditioner emergency. A week after he checked everything we had a leak in the air conditioning line and had to pay a different company to come out a fix it.

My AC unit quit. It's 110 outside and 90 in my home. I have a child and my mother is in town visiting, I called this highly rated company at 4:45pm and and the man who answered the phone told me they couldn't get to my home until between 2-5 the next day. I don't understand how they got such high ratings but I couldn't count on them in an emergency.

Air conditioning unit was leaking water from the attic right through a light fixture in my ceiling. Determined that my secondary drain pan had rusted and was leaking water onto my drywall. Recommended I replace the pan and gave me an estimate of $655. Changed a minimal service fee to secure torn original insulation on my copper refrigerant line.

Bought 2 pre-paid Summer A/C Tune ups for dual heat pump system. One unit was down several pounds of refridgerant (I thought so as on the hot hot days unit had problem keeping downstairs cool). Tech went through units, cleaned and inspected and brought to my attention that if a unit is leaking its only a matter of time before it fails. He said to make sure to have a service done on the downstairs unit to measure loss, but more than likely leak was coming from somewhere in the air handler in the attic (typical failure point apparently) and the cost to remove and replace the inside coil ranged around $2,000. Do not know if that is typical cost but sounds right (labor, parts, etc). Cha

William Smith came over on time and ready to work. He thoroughly went through the home to see what our home needed in terms of a new system and answered all questions my wife and I had. The price initially quoted actually came in under the company we used, for all of the same little additional elements that go with installation; and we intended to use them. Like I said, we would have used them, but a family friends company came in and bid the same system for a ridiculous amount that couldn't be passed up; Family perks. But in a real world situation, Howard Air was very professional and more than competitive with their services. My only knock would be the shameless plug of their yearly service agreement. The Tech that came in before William was very professional, knowledgeable and helpful, but had tunnel vision for anything that had nothing to do with purchasing their service agreement.

David arrived right on time and carefully checked out all the parts of the unit, getting to the problem quickly, performed what he could do then, and scheduling next day work after getting a needed part. He got the part early and was here by 8:00. He put in a new control board and wire harness. The condensation drain was clogged and that was rectified by installing an overflow safety switch.
Description of Work: David performed multiple tasks to get the air conditioner running. He was quick and very professional. He explained his findings clearly and answered questions to our satisfaction. I appreciated him arriving early the second day in order to get the job done, getting us cooled.

Howard Air was not the cheapest quote we got, nor was it the most expensive. However, they provided us with new parts, roof ducts, etc, They also included "foam" on the roof which others did not. Insulation is important here in Arizona. They were the most professional, on time workers I've ever been around. It was a joy to work with them. Their subs for the crane to place the unit on the roof was on time, their "foam guy" was on time. They didn't miss a beat. What could have been an arduous experience was actually quite pleasant.

Call them, no matter where you live in the Valley. Hard to find a hvac company in Az that isn't a sham. My techs name was Denis. Great guy and willing to show you what's broken. I give that to management as well.

Mike showed up on time. He noticed the coils on our unit were extremely dirty, which wasn't surprising since it's an old house and the previous owners neglected to take care of anything. Mike used a special camera to show me the dirty coils, and I agreed to have him clean them. Mike spent a long time cleaning the coils. I really liked how Mike was a no pressure kind of guy. He simply told me what he found, explained what needed to be done in order to help lengthen my already old A/C's life span, and left it to me to decide. Mike did a great job and I wouldn't hesitate to hire them again for any future problems.

I just had Howard Air perform an A/C tune up back in May, but being an old A/C, it stopped working. We called Howard Air immediately and they were at our home within hours. I was ready for the bad news that ole Bessy died and we would have to replace her, but the tech (I can't remember his name, but a really nice guy!) checked everything out and found it was just a loose wire. A loose wire! Howard Air just saved me from having to fork out money I don't have just yet for a new A/C system. They are truly a very honest company and they really show they care. Of all the things we have to deal with in our fixer upper home, it's nice to know we have a good A/C company to rely on. We love these guys!

After just recently moving into our new home, we called Howard Air, after seeing their great reviews, to do an inspection of our unit. We had noticed water dripping out of the exterior upper overflow line. What we thought was build up in a line was actually years of compounding issues that had never been addressed -- beginning with poor installation of the original AC unit by the builder of the home. The technician who did the initial inspection, David, was incredibly professional and informative. He knew that we had just moved into the home and we were devastated by the news and felt like fools for not looking further into this issue during our inspection period. Once we realized the system was beyond economical repair due to age and extent of issue, David called back to the office and let them know we'd be needing an estimate for the new system. Before David had even left the house, Howard Air called us to schedule a follow up meeting. Brian came our to our house to prepare the estimate for us. He was incredibly professional, informative, detail oriented and friendly. He told us all about Howard Air and the company's engineering background--how they have engineers on staff to make sure every aspect of the install (AC/heat pump unit size, ductwork, plenum) is correct for each individual home. He took laser measurements of the home, did a full walk through, and prepared an estimate while still at our house. Brian also gave us uWe felt the pricing to be fair, but wanted to get additional bids just to make sure we were being thorough. Two other companies came out. The first company didn't measure the home or the windows, but did visual estimate of window size and went off of the county assessor's website information -- which is not always reliable. He came back with very different calculations than Howard Air and told us we'd need a larger size unit, 5 ton--one ton greater than our existing, for our house -- which we later found out to be the largest size residential AC unit available (and we live in a 1-story 1700 sq ft home!). The next company to come out also used the assessor's website information, but took measurements of our windows. He recommended a smaller unit, 3.5 ton--half a ton less than existing. We questioned this smaller size, and he reassured us it was the correct size for this house, despite our vaulted ceilings throughout the house. After getting three very different estimates (we couldn't even compare apples to apples, it was more like apples to oranges) on needed sizes of AC units and the varying prices, we realized that the only way to know for sure what this house needed was to rely upon the company with the most thorough estimate -- the one that was based upon laser measurements and double checked by engineers on staff -- and that was Howard Air. Not only was Howard Air's assessment most accurate, but their prices were incredibly fair. Although each company recommended different size units, we were able to approximate what the cost of the unit suggested by Howard Air would have cost from the other two companies, and Howard Air's prices were either better or the same. Not only do they have good prices, but the company takes great pride in their work and they provide a 5 year guarantee on labor/installation on top of the 10/10 year warranty provided by the manufacturers -- and that blew the competition away (one did not offer guarantee on labor and the other offered one year). Also included in the install is one year of service for the machine -- Howard Air comes out for the winter/summer inspection periods to make sure all is well. Installation of the new unit went quickly. The two installers (I didn't remember their names) were very professional, went through a multi-stepped process for the install, put down drop clothes to protect the home, and were respectful of our property. Overall, we were incredibly pleased with Howard Air and their staff. We absolutely will recommend this company and Brian's services to anyone who needs AC/Heating help.
