Service went really well. The technician (Joel) was very personable, professional, and thorough. Also seemed very honest in his comments and advice re: any issues, concerns, or suggestions. He was very timely and did an excellent job. System ran very well after he was done, a significant improvement in air movement and cooling. He also suggested a new product they had a current special on after I inquired about my potential interest in an electronic air cleaner. He suggested a trial on this unit for 30 days to see if this met my needs. This was an excellent idea and one he could implement right away since he had the unit in his truck. The installation was straight forward and took little additional time. I also then had the benefit of trying this new technology in my own home for 30 days with a full money back guarantee if it did not work out. Joel also gave me tips on how to set and run our A/C system to be more efficient and effective and take advantage of this additional technology. Billing was very efficient with full details of the service call provided on my electronic invoice that he provided me after the service call. Another nice touch was accepting credit card payment which in my opinion is critical in dealing with contractors of all types.
Description of Work: A/C maintenance/tune up on two units, installed drain overflow safety switches for two units, replaced two run capacitors, installed Air Scrubber unit.

They were very professional, came on time. Found an issue the first time that they scheduled and repaired at a later date prolonging the life of our older unit.

This 44-point service is regularly priced $129 and would of been a great way to ensure no breakdowns this summer. I assure you cheaper is not always better as we offer a No breakdown guarantee with this service. I wasn't really happy with them. When I scheduled the original appointment the guy never showed up, so I called them and it turns out that whoever scheduled the first appointment had scheduled it for the next year instead of the current year. They told me that they would only charge me for one year and they ended up charging me for both, I never got a refund. When the guy came he was fine, but pursuing and doing doing what they said they were going to do kind of irritated me. I don't think they were professional at all, they were terrible.

They were able to squeeze me into their schedule on short notice. Dennis was excellent, he thoroughly explained the service that was needed, showed me the broken component and replaced it. He also cleaned the air handler. Outstanding. I will definitely use this company for my future air conditioning and heating needs.

We first called Howard Air in December of 2013. They came out and looked our unit which was about 5 years old at the time and said our unit was in great shape and that our problem was with SRP (which turned out to be true). Last week the unit went out we called Howard Air again the technician came out and said our compressor needed to be replaced and it would run $2644 plus tax. I asked him (he did not volunteer the information) how much it would cost to replace the whole unit he said about $6000. I asked him if he could tell us why the compressor went out he had no answer. The dispatcher called the next day and pushed hard for us to buy a whole new unit, which puzzled me because the guy who saw the unit didn't even bring up the idea of replacing the whole unit. The dispatcher again could not tell me why the compressor went out or even if a new unit would work better. I had no idea what do to which is not good when you are about to spend either 3,000 or 6,000 dollars. I asked about warranties for the compressor and the dispatcher said he would work up some quotes that should cost us very little in addition to extend the standard one year warranty. He said the technician would present the options to me when he finished fixing our unit. We ended up deciding to go with the compressor replacement and are in the process of finding a home warranty to cover the unit moving forward. Throughout this time Howard Air would promise to call me at specified times with answers to my questions they failed every time to do and I was forced to call them usually 2 times for every time they would actually speak to me. This is while my house was extremely hot dealing with 90+ degree temps here in Phoenix. The technician showed up at the house an hour and a half late. When he finished the job, he presented me a bill for 3100 dollars I asked him if it was right and he said it was. I questioned him again and he said it was right. I finally asked him if he included the Angie's list discount, he went back to his truck and came back with the correct price saving me 300 dollars. The technician had no warranty info for the unit much less any quotes on extending the warranty. I called Howard Air to request the warranty info and told a service manager what happened. They offered to give us two years of additional warranty protection for free, but after 4-5 significant errors on their part will be going the home warranty route.

I purchased an Angie's List Big Deal for this service and it went very well; I was happy with it. He offered a couple of additional services, but I did not have him do any. I thought he was very friendly and professional. He was less pushy than some other service providers I have used recently who have tried to get me to spend more money. I appreciated this. The Big Deal price was a good deal. He called me pretty much right after I purchased the deal to set up our appointment and came when he said he would. They gave me a window of between 1 p.m. and 6 p.m. when they would come for the appointment and I would prefer a smaller window

I purchased one of their AC tune up specials. I couldn't get past their inability to schedule properly with me. They called me to say they were on there way to do the tune-up, but I informed them I had not made an appointment with them so they shouldn't come out. Then I asked for a call to schedule an appointment and talked to their scheduler. I asked for a weekday appointment after 4:30, to which I was asked if a 3pm was ok? I said no I would I need after a 4:30, can you provide service after 4:30? To which I was asked if a weekend appointment after 3pm would be ok. At that point I gave up. I will reschedule my tune-up with another company.

Howard Air showed up at 8:00 AM this morning and performed their inspection on my heat pump. Very courteous and professional. I signed up for the $69 deal through Angie's List and in addition, I elected to have a surge protector installed on my air handler unit for $164. I received my invoice minutes later via e-mail. Very efficient operation overall!! Oh . . . this is my first time using Howard Air.

Absolutely smooth. All appointments with service technicians, sales rep and installation crew were conducted per the committed schedule. All crews protected the areas of my home needed for access to the HVAC system. Installation was perfectly smooth and problem free. Closet structure containing the air handling equipment was updated during the installation. A new thermostat was provided. I am very pleased with the service provided by Howard Air. Not the cheapest, not exorbitant but certainly the best HVAC company that I have worked with in Maricopa county.

.Excellent response time and very professional in evaluation of the problems and solutions. I call another provider for annual check up and he told me the unit needed to be leveled and several parts replaced. After a week the contractor called with a price and I decided to call a contracted recommended by Angie's list. I am a new customer to Angie's List and did not know how to execute a search for providers. Howard Air came out the next day and unclogged the drain line ( unit was level ) and replaced two parts ( 1/2 the price quoted by the first contractor.) Excellant service, professional people and customer focused. I will use Howard Air for all future repairs and will have them install a new system as the current system wears out.

Setting up the appointment was very easy. Office staff was friendly and accommodating. Technician called before arriving, was very thorough, efficient and professional. The service from Howard Air was excellent. The sales person very carefully explained the product, the costs, rebates available, relative differences between products available, and the installation process. He took pictures of all the areas the workers would access and used them to inform the crew what was needed and what was promised. Also, he used the video to follow up after installation to inspect the work. During installation the workers used work blankets to cover all exposed surfaces the might get scratched or dirty. They had to remove some frame material to get into the attic and very soon after the installation was done a workman came to repair anything disturbed. He repaired and painted all surfaces. The price seemed fair compared to two other competitive companies we had interviewed. All in all it was one of the most professional installations of anything we have had done in our home.

Tech called before he arrived. Once on site we inspected both units. He took his time to throughly check both units. He found that the capacitor was not within spec and recommended replacement. No pushy sales, and said the part is not broke but it will make the system run better and save electric in the end.

Very good deal for $60. The technician would have cleaned the outside AC units, but I had already cleaned them so I did not need this part of the service. The tech checked all the components, freon levels, and pressures for the outside units. The technician also went up into the attic crawl space and checked out the air handlers-this is a service that most of the other companies do not do and I considered it to make the deal much more valuable. The tech knew what he was doing and he spent several hours checking out and reporting on the condition of the units.

Have used this company in the past. Honest tune up and inspection of an old unit. The tech gave me all the information I needed to decide how much to spend to get it through the season here in AZ. I plan to hire Howard Air to replace my furnace and air at the end of this season. Every person I contact - scheduling, tech and sales has been first class.

It was fine. They were easy to work with and they were able to actually come out when we weren't there so it went well. They said I needed like $800 worth of work done to my air conditioning unit. My wife said we have to wait until it breaks down and then we will do it. My brother lives down there full time and he said that Howard is a big air conditioning company. For us it was just cleaning, maintenance and stuff. They offer a maintenance program in which it would have lowered the cost of that to $200. It wasn't quite what I was expecting but they were fine, easy to deal with, willing to come out when we weren't there and so that was very helpful. They scheduled the appointment in the morning and they weren't able to get out there until the afternoon because they ended up getting busy on a call in front of us. They are very accommodating with still coming down and checking while we weren't there so that was nice rather than having to reschedule.

Found a bad capacitor and replaced; tech took the time to show me how he got the reading that showed the part was bad.
Description of Work: Checked and cleaned 2 AC units.
