This is old from last July 2013 but keep getting notices from site for a review. I had and still have an intermittent acts like "freezing up" problem although I don't think it is actually freezing. Sometimes the nice cold 55 degree air will last only 10 minutes and sometimes a few hours but then needs to "rest" for a few hours just like as if freeze up. A prior large repair service a few months before said all checked out fine except the compressor capacity had below spec mfd reading. However they said if that was the problem the unit would not turn off, which was not my problem. I also researched the part and found it is available for $88 vs them wanting to charge me about $300 (of course does have to include service call). I have a friend of friend electrician and just out of air conditioning training I figured could do a simply capacity replacement IF that was the problem but from what Air Con guy said didn't seem to match the problem of periodic frequent "freezing up". I set up an appointment with Howard Air for a second opinion. Nice young guy checked everything and "all is fine." I explained the intermittent problem and he said to call when it is doing its kind of freezing up thing so they could check it while it was "sick". Later in the day, of course when the "doctor" had left it froze up. I called Howard Air and of course they are busy and can't just send someone immediately but later that night. A higher level very friendly tech person called me and had nice discussion. He was tied up until the next morning. Friendly, experienced tech came and of course it was working again. He was quite sure it was a starting to wear contact connector which he replaced. He also said the capacity which the other company said was bad, was fine. Next day the same freezing issue. I should have called back but was a bit frustrated and had to leave for Canada (and cooler weather) and got very busy when got back and kind of just "lived with it" as I could coax it into working, have a 2nd unit in another part of the house that works fine and an outside vented small auxiliary unit for my office area and fans. Now with the heat am having the same issues. Sometimes works great but never for an entire day. In a neighborhood group I am in there was a great endorsement for another guy who has a smaller air company. Called about a month ago great friendly wife, I e-mailed detailed info on its history and about a week later he called. Is very busy at his own house remodeling would get back to me, called again very friendly would get to me. The last call was about 2 weeks ago so I have kind of given up on him. Friend of a Friend - first friend is trying to get over to at least test the capacity - person two that never shows up says yes a bad capacity is likely - the one Howard said was fine... Friend of a friend if doesn't show up in a few days will try another company. In fairness this is not that negative about Howard Air. They tried, seemed very professional and friendly and it was my fault for not again calling back that the contact replacement didn't work. I am going back to Canada in a few weeks and want to keep expenses low so I may survive until I go and deal with it when I return in late May...undecided what to do or where to turn to.

However, we are a little confused on how we could of done a better job. Our records show a visit on 7/12/13 for a maintenance you purchased through Angie's List website where no major issues were discovered, however, the next morning your system did fail. We returned at no charge that day to find a electrical component failed which we charged our flat rate to replace and is now under warranty. We truly hope to have an opportunity to prove our value in future visits. Thank you for allowing us the opportunity to earn your business.

When I had the motor replaced, the leak started again so they came back and didn't charge me for it. They have good response.
Description of Work: I use the services of Howard Air. They came in August when my air condition started leaking and I called them back two weeks ago to replace a motor.

Exceptionally well! Dennis called and arrived at the time he stated. He explained what he was doing in ways I could understand. He had a very pleasant manner and is an outstanding representative of your company. He was realistic about the vintage age of our AC unit (almost museum quality!), however did not push us into a new unit. That being said, we will be calling for quotes on a new unit since that is in our near future. Bottom line...Dennis did a thorough job, not rushed, left the unit and area cleaner than it's been in years! Special note to the supervisor of Dennis: Give this man a raise!!! This is a very good Angie's List recommendation.

We took bids from several companies and finally decided to us Howard Air. We couldn't be happier with the results. From start to finish the service was incredible and we felt like they covered all of the bases so that the installation was complete. I purchased an Angie's List Big Deal for this service and it was fine and dandy. They showed up when they said they would be here. The technician was in and out of here and had no problems. They came out the week following my Big Deal purchase. This was the first time I used this company and they did a good job.

Excellent service, highly recommend for your A/C needs. On time arrival after calling ahead to let us know when he would arrive. Very polite and professional. Serviced both units in preparation for hot summer months, explained exactly what he did and the condition of the units. Did not over-sell, in fact he did some minor tweaking but advised our units were in very good shape and did not require anything major. Performed an S44 check on each unit and gave us a checklist of every item checked. Very thorough and cleaned up nicely afterward.

It went well. I have an old unit but is still running (yeah). The service man did a tune-up and had several suggestions for up-dating and left me with a list of things that could be done to extend the life of the unit. He did a great job. If I need to have repairs done, I would call them.

Joel was very helpful and courteous. He explained and showed me either in person or on his phone photos all the areas and what I was looking at. He made what could have been an extremely stressful issue a lot easier. He completed everything he needed to do. He also made sure he cleaned up afterwards and used booties and gloves where necessary. I was just so pleased and this with just having moved in the day before.
Description of Work: The tech not only preformed the 44 point check list but also checked the handler and found a Freon leak which had to be fixed.

A few days passed with no callback. After 10 days, I called their office to be sure the ball hadn't been dropped. After I explained the situation to the receptionist, I was transferred to someone in the office who assured me he was working on it and would get back to me within a day or two. 2 months have passed without any callback from anyone. Description of Work: I initially called Howard Air to get a price for the installation of a new whole house air filtration system---using a brand we had used at another home with good results. The receptionist said I would get a quote in "a few days". Having heard nothing a week later, I called and the receptionist searched for some paperwork and, after she located it, gave me the quote. The number was way too low and I questioned her further to be sure that it was for a whole new filter system and not just the replacement of the filter media. She transferred me to someone in the office and I explained the situation; he told me that they would need to send a tech to our house to check out what was needed. Soon thereafter, a tech came to our home. The tech was very congenial and helpful but suggested that he was unfamiliar with the brand we wanted and said that it could be difficult to install into our existing furnace configuration. He suggested an alternative brand which was then on-sale via Howard Air. The tech was wonderful and we looked forward to working with him. We ended the conversation with him agreeing that Howard's main office would provide us with some pricing within a few days for the system we initially asked for as well as the alternative system he recommended--- so we could compare them. There was no charge for this visit.

We have used your instance and pin pointed where the failure in communication happened. This is a human error and has been addressed with this individual with training opportunities. David Shrum was great, I really liked him, he was very trustworthy. He performed the tune-up on my A/C and also fixed a few things on the unit. David ended staying late to finish the work, even though it was getting late into the evening. I really appreciated what David did for us and staying late was a plus! I really felt that he was so trustworthy, just by our conversation, if he said it needed to be fixed, I just had him do it! I would definitely request him again if I need any future work.

I was really tired of know-nothing service techs. So I turned to Angie's List and Howard Air and their 2013 Super Service award. David was the tech and answered questions that no other tech in the last 6 years could answer. He took the batteries out of my thermostat so I'd know if there was a power loss in the air handler. He de-programmed the daylight savings time function. It's not a reliable clock and I don't expect it to be, but at least I'll no longer be irritated by the time change. The heat pump has always had a hard shut-off. Now I know it's the exterior shell covering the unit and not the compressor, only vibrating metal. Lastly he even hosed off the coils. Wow Super service indeed! My next project is to delete the previous A/C company from my contacts list.

Two nice service men showed up promptly as they had been scheduled. Took a look at our unit and serviced according to the package we purchased. They Took Photos of the damage and gave a quote. It was reasonable and they had great reviews and so we had them fix the problem. Our AC unit now is super quiet and no more burning smell when it turns on.
Description of Work: Repair motor and clean that hadn't been done in years.

The service tech (Michael) was professional and knowledgeable. My only complaint was their price of the capacitor. I was charged $181 for the capacitor and $69 for the service. Thinking the price of the capacitor seemed excessive, I search the internet and found the exact capacitor for $30!!!! I understand they need to make a profit but a 600% profit is excessive and down right piracy. I feel the repair was double of what it should have been!!!
Description of Work: Air conditioner diagnostic and repair. Replaced the capacitor.

Fast initial response to setup appointment, however the service technician missed my appointment window (1-5 pm) by about 2 hours without notice and I wasn't home. Called back and received an exact time for service the following week. That technician was on time and very thorough and professional.
