So far so good. Honest and quick. Told me that the air conditioning units were original to the house. They are 26 years old. Came out and since the larger unit was dead, and the smaller one was on life support I replaced them. They did not use a hard sell. They did not sell me the top of the line. So, I have a nice cool home, and I am happy so far. I free year service plan, and a APS rebate included. I will follow up when its been a year or so.

I don't think the technician actually did anything outright to improve the performance of the system. He did a thorough assessment of the system, but then the next step was to consider signing up for ongoing maintenance from the company, which we declined for now. Seems like the company is using this deal as a chance to encourage clients to sign up for ongoing maintenance. Nothing material was wrong with our system, so I can't speak to what would have happened if there was - if it would have been covered by the cost of this deal; but somehow, I don't think this is meant to cover any repair necessary when they come out to assess. Would not recommend buying this if you have an A/C issue; just setup a real service call with the company to come out without buying this deal up front.

It was fine. They showed up right on time. However, a couple weeks after they were out, some wires were touching in the unit and shorted out our unit. It caught on fire.

Then we were called back on 8/19/13 (8 weeks later) in reference to your system not operating where we located a refrigerant leak that was repaired. Pardon - the first party of this is about the PRIOR AC repair company that not only didn't fix the problem, but seemed to worsen the situation. The AC was faltering in rental condo where I have family of 6 including 4 small children. Temperatures (and tempers) rising at end of July. My prior preferred provider couldn't schedule anything for at least 10 days, so I called an unknown-to-me owner operated AC & appliance repair guy who was able to get there within hours, but gave my tenants impression he didn't know exactly what he was doing, and sadly and expensively, apparently did not. After more than two hours and $260 later (including refrigerant), he departed saying it would take about 24 hours to cool back down. It's an old unit and he said compressor might not last long. Unit continued to produce slightly cooler air through the night but cut off entirely the next day. The young man from this other company was both courteous and I think genuinely concerned, and got me quotes of $1900 to replace the compressor, and $3900 to replace the unit, but given the costs and the questionable impression left with my tenants, I decided to get a second opinion and called Howard Air, whose $85 service call (a tad less with an Angies' List discount deal) saved me the $1900-$3900. Joel from Howard was able to get there the day I called (after my tenants had suffered a couple 100+ days with no AC) and found the prior repairman had overfilled the refrigerant to the point pressure could not be accurately gauged and had to be bled down, and despite at least 2 hours work on the roof, the prior repairman had left a dirty coil covered in dust and cat hair (since my tenants had run the AC for at least a couple of weeks without any filter). At any rate, it was blowing cold air before Joel departed. I owe a small balance due on top of the service call for Joel's external coil cleaning efforts, but the unit was working superbly before he left, and continues to do so a week later. My thanks to Joel and Howard Air.

Overall, service was good. Professional had some recommendations for the future, such as installing a safety valve to prevent damage to the home in case any blockage in the lines occurs in the future. Found that the new A/C unit in my new home had some fittings which were loose. Only thing that I did not like, is when the service professional left, I had found that he left dirty hand prints all over the paint on the ceiling and crawl space door. But I am guessing he did not see it when he was working. Also, price for safety valve ($114) seemed a little expensive, considering it only took him 5 minutes to put it in and it was just this little tiny thing. Other than that, the service was good and I am hiring them for the annual maintenance on my unit. Would recommend to others.

We are very happy with our purchase and can see why Howard Air maintains such an excellent record on Angies List. They analyzed our house and picked the best and most proper unit for our house. I appreciate this over someone just pushing certain brands. We feel we paid an excellent price for an excellent unit. Our salesman was very knowledgeable and the technicians who installed were very professional. They have also called us to come and inspect our unit making sure everything is operating tip top. Additionally, when our previous unit went kaput, Howard fixed it for free while we waited for our new unit to be installed. I hightly recommend Howard.

Called after I got a bid from a contractor that I wanted to verify. They went on about how even though I had a dianosis they would have to charge me the 89.00 trip charge. I said that was fine but asked some questions on why I needed to replace an entire unit when the compressor is bad and I guess I asked to many questions and didn't just take their advice over the phone that I needed a whole new unit for 5,000 to 6,000... They he hung up on me.. You don't get a second chance.

Three days after returning home from vacation our A/C went out -- during RECORD heat -- 114-117 AND it was a SATURDAY!! My husband happened to hear the unit screeching while he was outside and immediately turned it off. I went to Angie's List to find a reputable HVAC company. The dispatcher who answered the phone was friendly, professional, and reassuring. All techs were busy that day, but she assured me they would do their best to escalate my issue with the hopes that a technician could service us. If not, she assured they'd be out there the next day -- on a SUNDAY -- and that we would not be charged an extra fee. Within an hour or so Michael (the tech) called us back to say he was on his way! He inspected the unit to assess the problem but also inspected to make sure everything looked as it should. Besides the issues that rendered the unit inoperable, he noted the coils were dirty and a drain plug that should have been pulled during the previous service (another company) needed to be addressed. He took care of EVERYTHING and did a GREAT job. He, too, was friendly, professional, and informative. I would highly recommend the quality of work by this company, and in the record desert heat I would also highly recommend their responsiveness. There was no extra charge for the Saturday service!! My ONLY concern is the cost of the work. We looked on line to find that the fan motor that was replaced costs less than $150. There were some that were $49 up to $150. We were charged $450 for the motor. We had this replaced 3 years ago and were charged $250.

Needed to replace a new air conditioning/heating system to our vacation home we plan to sell. Jeff Frye came to the house to give us a quote. When Jeff arrived, he noted that the fan on our old compressor was not working; and, he offered to call one of his service people to repair it. We thanked him. The old unit was doing ok at that time; and there was no need to repair if it was going to be replaced. We stated that the home was going for sale and simply needed a basic system without the fancy "bells and whistles." He quoted a few prices on various systems. He did not oversell. They installed a few weeks later when we returned to the house. Installation went smoothly; and the crew left the place clean. We returned to the house about a month later and noted that there was uneven air flow distribution to different parts of the house. They sent Dennis to come and adjust the dampeners in the air ducts. However, that same evening, the unit stopped working. It had been a very hot day. The office was closed when we called; but, the emergency service sent Bo that evening. He arrived at 8pm. He informed us that the problem was due to a plugged condensation drainage system that tripped off a safety feature of the HVAC. He advised that if the unit stopped again, to give them a call. The unit stopped working at 4am. I made another call that morning; and, Dennis returned to the house within a few hours. The unit is working perfectly. Despite the glitches, we did not regret purchasing the system from Howard Air. We are very pleased with their service. They were very professional and quickly responsive to what needed to be done. All hassle free.

Tina the dispatcher was friendly and helpful. Julio the serviceman was profesional and efficient, good sense of humor too. This was the kind of service call you dream about but never happens, seriously, 3 hours from start (the call) to finish, with a reasonable bill. Did I mention it was about 110 when it broke and getting hotter by the minute? They will get all my business from now on, I am so glad I dropped my previous provider.
Description of Work: Came to my house, figured out the problem with my ac, and fixed it, less than 3 hours from my call for help until Julio was walking out the door after finishing the job.

At 5 pm on a Saturday night with outside temperature above 100 degrees, my a/c quit cooling my condo unit. My call to Howard Air was received promptly and within 15 minutes I received a call back from the repair technician, Joel. Even though Joel was on his way to another service call in my area, he stopped by my unit first and had me back running within the hour. I cannot say enough about the excellent and prompt service I received. Great service experience. Highly recommend.

We were very happy for that. My husband like using them because they were on Angie's list. He incredibly threated my mother as she was his own mother when he did her and our air conditioning. I liked that. Overall experience, I will give him an A. I will also use him again in the future. I have already recommended him to multiple people.
Description of Work: He put in a brand new air conditioning and a heating unit for us last week (July).

I had water running down an interior wall in my house. I was told it was probably the condensation pan or the tube running out from the pan. I called Howard Air and they came out the same day I called, within a couple hours. They confirmed it was the tube and cleared it out. They also installed a switch to prevent overflow. I really appreciated the rapid response and service in order to prevent further damage to the wall. I would call them again.

The installation of the condensate safety switch will prevent this from happening again. This switch is standard for ALL Howard Air installations when purchasing a new system to prevent this from happening. This time of year response time is key but not always possible for everyone. In your case, we understood the severity and our scheduling department found a way. Summer time presents so many new issues for our system as they work their hardest and create more condensation during this time of year. They did a very good job. They did the job just as advertised. I bought a year's policy from them so if anything goes wrong, all I would have to pay is a service fee. They really knew what they were doing and there were no surprises with the price. I felt like they were very reputable and I would not hesitate to recommend them to others or to use them again.
