Howard Air appreciates your concern so we would love to ease your mind about the service you received from us. Our first customer interaction with you was on 3/25/2014. We came to your property to perform a Standard 44 point service on your system. You paid $69 as a member of Angie’s List. Our technician found a lightly soiled indoor evaporative coil and a weak run capacitor to the outdoor fan motor. He quoted at that time $380.30 in repairs and you op-ted to not complete any repairs at that time. You requested to have one of our Comfort Consultants visit your home to receive a quote and options for a replacement system. However, you cancelled that appointment. You were not billed for anything further. On 5/15/2014 Howard Air sent the same technician back to your property, at your request, to replace a condenser fan motor at the cost of $484.00. At that time you elected to purchase the Howard Air Care Plan choosing the Optimum 89 annual service. This service is performed 2 times per year and had a total cost of $432.00. The repairs quoted on 3/25/14 were covered under the Optimum 89 maintenance plan and therefore reduced your repair costs by $380.30. The total billed amount on this date was $916.00, but only about half of that was a repair/replacement. We once again we returned to your property on 2/25/15 to perform the second Optimum 89 Howard Air Care Plan Service that you had purchased previously. At that time our technician checked your water heater and found that it was over 13 years old and had extremely heavy corrosion and you were quoted $950.00 to replace the water heater. At that time you told our technician that you were going to have it replaced by your home warranty company. There was no charge for any repairs on that date. We have made no further trips to your home as of today’s date. We are more than happy to provide you with detailed invoices and photos if you contact our office during normal business hours. We are disappointed that you have a different view of what happened and wish you would have contacted our office in 2014 when you felt you had a problem so we could have discussed it with you. He said, "Oh, but I don't think your warranty is going to be any good because you have to get maintenance twice a year." I said, "What? That's ridiculous." So, that wasn't true but he told me that. Then, he said, "Well, I've put Freon in. I've put six pounds and that will cost you $175." He put the Freon in, just for a week because then they were going to come back and replace the unit. He was going to charge me $175 for six pounds of Freon when it was going to be drained out anyway in a week. He didn't even ask me if that's what I wanted. I went, "Wait a minute. This is under warranty. Why would I want to spend that much money for a week? I'm going out of town anyway. Why wouldn't you ask me before you tell me I owe $75?" So, that was really irritating. He was just not very good. That's why I called and complained to the company the next morning. They were very nice and got somebody else out here. Everybody I've ever had has been really good. It's just that I had a problem with him. He was lying with everything he was saying to me. They ended up putting the Freon and wanted to charge me that much money for six pounds just for the week because the part that they needed to put in, they didn't have. So, they were going to come back in a week with the new coil part and then they were going to replace it and put a new one in. Of course, it's under warranty. So that didn't cost me anything. But they wanted me to have air conditioning for the week, in the meantime. Well, all that was covered under warranty. But he told me I had to pay for that and I had to argue with him and then finally he calls me back, after he left, about a half hour later and says, "Yeah. You're right. It's under warranty." So, he didn't even know before he said what he said to me. They came back about a week later when they got the part and put it in. It was the same guy because I didn't complain at that point yet. He put it in and left. I called back the next day and said, "It's still not working. There's something wrong. It's running and running and running." That's when they sent somebody else back out. The guy said, "Oh, he didn't flip the switch. There's a switch that you flip. Otherwise, it keeps running." I go, "Great." He did fix it and everything was working fine.
Description of Work: I purchased a big deal from them. My air conditioning wasn't working. So, a gentleman came out, looked at it and said the coils needed to be all replaced.

Contacted Justin on a Tuesday requesting info on ductless AC system for a room in our house that is hot/stuff regardless of thermostat setting. I purposely waited until the weather cooled to request this work out of respect for the attic work that would have to be done. He suggested they first assess duct system to see if they could re-balance. He made an appt for Thursday 10am-12 w/Danny (sales person). Justin advised I would be called 30 minutes before his arrival. The date of the appointment came and at 11:45, I called provider as I had not heard from Danny. I spoke w/Justin again who indicated he'd have Danny call me ASAP. 35 minutes later Danny calls to tell me he is "running a little behind" and will be here in 20 minutes (that would be 12:45-1pm arrival assuming his estimate was accurate). I told him that I could not wait as I had made other appointments away from my house after making this appointment with him. I also told him that as a courtesy it would have been nice to receive a call earlier to advise of the delay and therefore give me the opportunity to not wait for the rest of the 2 hr window for frankly, nothing. I've used this company before on several occasions to do summer/winter tune-ups, but this was their opportunity to make a sale and they blew it. Too bad, because I thought they were reliable as they had been so in the past for service calls. (see previous reviews). Common courtesy of a phone call re: delay would have allowed me to go forward with this estimate/work with this provider

I called around 11AM and was put on the schedule for the same day with the range 12-6PM. Denis called at 1:30 and said he would be there about 2:00. He arrived on time, checked out the inspection report, checked the unit and gave me 2 options to address the problem. I selected one that required him to have to go get a part. He got the part, returned and installed it and was all done before 4PM. All courteous, professional, good communication. I am very pleased with the timing and the service.

We felt one of our units which was quite old was not functioning properly. Howard Air sent a tech who went through the unit and told us some of the parts were not working properly and that it would be quite costly to replace. We requested a representative of the company visit us and give us a quote for a new unit. He examined all units and agreed the one unit was not functioning well and gave us a quote for a new Trane unit. We agreed this was a fair price and gave the go ahead. The date and time were set and the installers arrived exactly on time and immediately proceeded to install the unit. They worked from 7:00AM until 4:30 PM without a break. There were two installers and they were both great people and fun guys. The installation was perfect, cleanup was excellent and the unit was working immediately. We have been customers of Howard Air for some time and have been completely satisfied with their work. The follow up after installation was really important and very prompt. Totally Satisfied.

After returning home we discovered the air conditioner was not working and the day temperatures were still in the 90's. I called Howard Air at 7:00am in the morning and was told Howard Air would be at my home between 8 and 12. They arrived at 11:30 and had the air conditional fixed and preformed a checkout by 1:00. I was very happy with the service and will use them again.

On 9/29/15 I purchased the $59.99 Fall Tune-Up and requested the technician Joel to do the service. I was scheduled for Monday, 10/5/15 with an afternoon arrival between 12-6. It was indicated that the technician would call when he was on his way. Because it is a 6-hour window, I messaged back on 9/30/15 asking if I could get a better idea of the time frame once the technician got his schedule for the day. I was told if I call the office the morning of the service, the dispatcher could tell me if I am earlier or later in the afternoon line-up. Kimber responded on 10/1 and gave me the phone number & indicated the office is open at 7 am. (On 10/2/15 I also received a confirmation message from Jasmine for the service on 10/5/15.) When I phoned the office on the morning of 10/5/15, the person I spoke to said my service would be the earlier part of the afternoon line-up. At 1:30 pm I phoned the office to ask for an update on the status of my service call and was told the technician was about 25 minutes away and I was his next call. I waited, & waited & waited... finally at 5:25 pm I called the office again. The person I spoke to then indicated to me that someone from Howard Air had called me and I said I was not scheduled for that day and not to come. When I questioned the phone number, it became evident someone was dialing the wrong number. I could tell that the person I spoke to at 5:25 pm was someone in authority and wanted to help. She put me on a brief hold and when she came back said "a technician will be there in 30 minutes". I was hesitant because of the time of day, but I agreed. Within 30 minutes, Joel was at my door sincerely apologizing for the mix-up. He proceeded to perform the service in an excellent manner. He is a very conscientious worker. My hope is that a situation like this doesn't occur again and the work doesn't have to be done in the dark!

Over a year ago when our house was not cooling well, we had 3 providers take a look. Two said "you need a BIGGER system." Howard Air suggested having our insulation checked and enhanced. They said our system was old, but would run another year or two. By the end of this Summer we needed a few costly repairs, and knew it was time. Howard Air gave us gave us credit for the repairs against the system replacement cost.We agreed on a date and a price. The work was completed in 1 day as promised and the workmen left the work spaces in good shape. Over the next few days we had two follow up visits to make sure everything worked correctly. EVERYONE at Howard has a great attitude?.they want the customer to be happy and understand that large jobs like this are stressful for homeowners. They are professional, responsive and went above and beyond our expectations.

I went with Howard Air. It started working and then stopped working again and found out the wires were too hot and it kept messing the wires up.

Howard Air replaced the outdoor and indoor components of my split system. They had very limited space to work inside and installed a slim line unit. There was also an issue with the base for the outdoor unit and they brought in a new pad at now extra cost. Jeffry, the sales rep, was very knowledgeable and professional. Michael and Andrew removed the old system and installed the new system. They were also very professional. Several issues came up during the install. Michael communicated with me on each issue and carried out my requests. The work went well and I am very pleased with the staff, service and equipment. The new system is much quieter and works very well. I would highly recommend Howard Air to others.
Description of Work: My old AC unit was originally installed in 1991. After several major repairs and parts replacements, it now had bad bearings, was making a lot of bad noise and was about to fail. I got several bids and Howard Air most impressed me with their assessment, knowledge and price (they were not the low bid, but had the best replacement options). They removed my outdoor AC compressor unit and replaced it with a temporary unit right away until they could replace the entire system a week later.

Brian K. came to see my unit and assess what needed to be done. This was after Custom Cooling had taken advantage of the situation and me. Brian was an engineer which Howard uses to make sure the unit fits the house. After agreeing to buy, they fixed my old unit so that it would limp along making the house somewhat cool until they could replace the unit. ON the day of replacing the unit Kyle and Burr came and removed the old unit, cleaning up as they progressed. They worked efficiently and professionally. They tested each area to make sure that the old unit had not contaminated any areas of piping before moving forward. they explained things that I should know to care for the new unit.They replaced the thermometer and explained its various capabilities and left the manual. They tested everything to make sure it was up and running. They cleaned up and left. They were friendly, informative, and efficient.. The air-conditioning unit has run consistently and appears to be doing well. The heating unit has not yet been tested. I was told that the unit will run more efficiently so I am looking forward to lower bills. I had called 9+ air conditioning companies and Howard Air and one other company were the highest priced companies. The other companies were close to the same price. After being treated poorly by Custom Cooling, I was looking for a company that would be honest with me and do what they said. The members of Angie's List helped me decide which company to choose. A customer of Howard and Angie's list said this, "3 months after having significant maintenance performed, A/C stopped working. Howard came out and performed diagnostic, found and repaired problem at no charge." That weighed in pretty heavy on my decision.

We weren't happy after the initial install because the lack of air flow in the master and one of the units going out twice. But in the end Howard Air really came through and stepped up their customer service. We're glad we used them!
Description of Work: 2 new ac units installed, pads poured for new units to sit on, new thermostats, added refrigerant to existing unit that went out until new units could be installed. Service call twice because one unit went out . Came out 2 more times and added another air duct in the master, dry wall fixed.

Our air conditioner stopped working during excessive heat warning in Phoenix 115 Degree heat! we called Howard Air and they came out that very day. Their salesman Steve Kenion couldn't have been nicer. Even though the new A/C unit would have to be ordered, He asked us if we would like to have air conditioning that evening! As unbelievable as it sounds Howard Air sent a crew of their service technicians to install and loan us another unit until our new A/C arrived. Those technicians worked for over 4 hours to install the loaned unit at no expense to us. In our opinion, Howard Air deserves Angie's List Super service award. We have been extremely impressed with everyone who works for them and would highly recommend this all star company.

The contractor was excellent and very thorough. He was unable to give me a receipt. It took several weeks of calls to the office, and many promises before I was able to get a receipt. It was aggravating to have to keep asking for it.

Everything started well with Howard Air, but unfortunately it was short lived. Our AC unit failed on July 18. On the afternoon of July 19, the Howard Air tech came out and quickly diagnosed the problem and gave us the bad news; our compressor was fried. On the advice of the tech, rather than spend over $3,000 for a replacement compressor, we opted for a complete replacement of the entire system. The tech was very professional and was nice enough to not charge us the Sunday call-out rate and instead the weekday rate. So far, so good. Later that afternoon, Jeff the Howard Air ?Comfort Consultant? came out and assessed our situation. He explained our options and we decided on a Carrier system. Jeff told they would not be able to install the new system for two weeks, but not to worry they would install a temporary compressor which would see us through until we received our new unit. Jeff stated if there were any problems with the temp compressor, they would bump us to the front of the line and do an emergency install. The next day the Howard Air techs came out and installed a temp 5 ton Trane condenser unit. On Sat July 25 the temp unit went out . . . we called Howard air and a tech came out. He had trouble finding a replacement unit but finally at 8:30 pm they installed another temp unit. After the Howard Air techs left, we noticed cool air was coming out of the vents but the house was barely cooling. The next day the ac unit could not keep up and the house warmed throughout the day. The ac was running nonstop 24 hours a day! I went out and looked at the new temp unit and noticed it was much smaller than the last temp unit. I discovered the unit was an undersized 3.5 ton unit instead of the required 5 ton unit. No wonder the ac unit could not cool our house. I called Howard Air and asked for them to replace the undersized 3.5 ton unit with the required 5 ton unit. They told me they had no 5 ton units to replace the 3.5 ton unit. I asked that they expedite the install of our new unit as the temp unit was costing us a fortune running 24/7 and unable to sufficiently cool our house. Howard Air told me since they didn?t have us scheduled for a new install the earliest they could do an install was on August 14th! What! We are not scheduled! How could that be! Almost 1 month before we get our new unit! I was infuriated. Jeff, our Howard Air Comfort Consultant had promised the new unit would be installed in approximately 2 weeks, but if there were problems with the temp unit they would do an emergency install. On August 14th, the install techs came out and installed the new Carrier unit. They were very professional and so far the install seems to be excellent. I have no complaints with the install. The techs said Jeff the Howard Air Consultant usually comes out during the install, but it looked like he would be late so he would be out later that day to assure everything went well. Jeff never showed up or never contacted us. We paid a fortune in electricity while the undersized temp unit ran 24/7 attempting to cool our house during the hottest portion of the year. The house was warm and uncomfortable. We had a miserable 3 weeks waiting for the new Carrier unit. Howard Air needs to do better.

Michael called when he was on his way and arrived right on time. He was professional and knowledgable and courteous. He went into the attic to check the air exchanger. He only did what was necessary to honor the inspection report requests, and did not try to overcharge me for unnecessary "extras". He was extremely neat going in and out of the attic. Great job. I would use them again.

It went very well. Howard Air was very punctual and sent many e-mails confirming date and time of our appointment. Also told us who would be arriving an when they were on the way.
