I think this service is a scam. I talked with my contractor and he said companies come out to do a so called "tune-up" but basically they will tell you how many things are wrong or could go wrong and then want you to pay an additional amount to get these so-called issues fixed. Of course when Howard Air came out he did find over 600.00 worth of repairs that needed to be done, just like my contractor said he would. Of course I said thanks but no thanks. Not sure what he did to "tune-up" our a/c unit?

This is what you paid for us to do and unfortunately, there are repairs that are required and repairs that are preventative. We are pleased to provide a list of both for “every” customer. The promise we have is to not have a customer breakdown in the middle of the summer and it was our fault for not telling them of an issue we identified during a maintenance visit. As for “what he did to "tune-up" our a/c unit?” our technician left you a detailed checklist of all 44-points of our service and inspection which you signed. We truly hope that you can use our company to restore your faith back into the service industry because we are not all what your “contractor” may say we are. This is what happened in your case which your ductless mini-split system was inoperable. The diagnostic fee can be applied to any/all repairs that need to be made in order to get the system running. Service person arrived on time, was respectful of property, explained things very well and performed service promptly. I would (and have) use this company again.
Description of Work: Inspection; Replaced outdoor fan motor, contacter and charged system. Cleaned out control boxes and high voltage disconnect box. Cycled the system in cooling, took the amp draws, pressures and temperature splits. Flushed out the condensate drain line. Test ran system. (Description as per receipt.)

Installed supposedly new rheam air conditioner and it broke down after a week and a half. They have only given us 2 years part and labor and it has already broken down once. They will not return our calls or give us our paperwork.

We feel we went above and beyond in our attempts to provide a course of action that included a new system vs. repair based on the condition and age of your current system. Personal budget constraints drove many decisions that were made and limited the options available to us. This resulted in you approving the purchase of a “demo” Rheem system which would not be our first choice in any instance. We did offer other options that were very close in price and included a “new” system. It was clearly explained that it had never been installed in a home nor been used in any way that would lead us to believe this unit was “faulty”. Dishonest is a very strong word and clearly our history shows HONESTY is our main priority based on outstanding record and testimonies. This is why these details were not only verbally explained prior to approving an installation but written on the first page of your contract. The reason for your system malfunctioning was not due to quality of product but rather electrical connections. This is was determined to be an incorrectly-sized breaker that was installed on a return trip and we apologize for this. Again, we are sorry to read your comments and wish you would reconsider your experience rating and our attempts to truly help you as a valued customer. Don't call them if there is an emergency!
Description of Work: My A/C went out at 2am in August. I phoned them as they had a good rating on Angie's List and say they have prompt 24 hour service. The person on the other end of the phone was very nice and took my information saying someone would call me. I asked did she have a time frame and she confirmed there were no other calls, so it should be fairly soon. An hour went by and no one called--so I phoned back and she said the technician would call me. I waited---it's now 5am and I phoned again. Finally the tech called me who sounded like he just woke up and said "Oh sorry, I got the pages and your information but spaced out and forgot about you." OK.... He went on to explain he was too far away from where I lived to get to me and was contacting Ron or John to find someone else. Bottom line---if your A/C goes out in August in Arizona don't trust their emergency "help". I have seen their commercials and read their ratings on here, but it's unprofessional behavior. Someone else is on their way to do the job.

We are researching this isolated instance to identify if it is our technician or our after-hours answering service that did not respond with the outlined procedure. We completely understand that if any of our customers cooling systems were to fail at any time of the day or night, especially in the summer, it is important to us to respond and do our very best to get them cooling within the same day. Our emergency service does provide a live-person to answer the phone 24 hours a day and dispatch an on-call technician to contact you by phone to develop a plan of action. We were able to contact you at 5AM and apologize for your wait and the need to initiate a second call. This is not our standard procedure; however, we did attempt to provide service since your system was still not operating. You chose to deny our service at this time and we truly hope your system was repaired. As we stated this was an isolated incident and we do provide emergency service to many individuals in the valley at all hours of the night. We hope that you will give Howard Air another chance to show you the service that is written about by many of Angie’s list members.

Everyone that I spoke to at Howard Air was very professional and knowledgeable. The service technician, Myke, was very thorough in going through my a/c system and then explaining to me, what needed to be repaired and the cost in so doing. We discussed several options on how to proceed.I felt that he was being totally honest, and didn't try to sell me anything that was unnecessary.I would definitely recommend them.
Description of Work: A midsummer tune up, as well as diagnosing a crackling noise every time my a/c would turn on and off.

I have been hearing about Howard Air being the "Best In the Valley" and Top of Angie's list, yet when I called to find out what a guesstimate might be to charge my freon in my AC that is currently not working (not that Dean with Howard Air even asked) and he made it clear that without paying the $69.00 evaluation fee, he would not give any indication as to how much a charge of freon would cost. He said he doesn't have "access" to that pricing. I asked if someone in the office tomorrow (Monday) would have such a bll park figure, just to charge the freon and he said no.I read in the other reviews that they push for upsells and to have to pay $69.00 just to have them tell us what is wrong, is wrong. Dean said that the tech would "wave" the $69.00 if we choose to have the work done by him. I said you mean you apply the $69.00 to the bill if we have work done? He said no. The charge will just be "waved".Crummy customer relations in an really uncomfortable situation, one that a reputable company would have adressed.

I had gotten a few other estimates and although howard air was not the cheapest (hench why i gave them a B in the price catagory), they did end up coming very close to the other bids with their price matching guarantee. (within a couple hundred dollars) I went with howard air because they seemed to be the most thorough with their estimate and plan of action. The salesman, Dave C. was one of the nicest and least pushy sales man ive ever encountered in my whole life. Unlike other guys, he wasnt trying to push his price onto me, and make me feel bad about not going with them. and while most salesmen would have gotten angry and given up, he really worked with me to get the price down where I wanted, yet maintaining the quality install that howard promises and provides. the installers were just as courteous and professional in their install. they didnt once bother me, and performed everything that was promised. they even left me a few extra air filters for me to use in the new units! As I said earlier, as most things in life, you get what you pay for, and even though howard air was a little more than the competition, they were very reasonable and did an excellent install. **I gave them a B in price because I dont know enough about A/C unit install pricing to know what is an A versus what is an F. All i know is that if i had to do it again, I would def hire howard air to do it :)

Utility bill is down and the unit is going strong.
Description of Work: Determined the issue with the AC switch. Not the wall, but in the AC itself. Was able to get the unit working but also indicated that there was a junker fan in the unit. Said it was the type of fan you would use to just get someone working if they were dead in the water.I had previously expected (before they came out) that i was going to have to replace the whole unit. The unit sounded awful. The tech suggested just replacing the fan. The next day he completed the work. The unit is much more quite and the tech indicated i should get several more years out of my unit. VERY HAPPY.

I SCHEDULED WITH JOHN ON 4/18/12 FOR AN APPOINTMENT ON 5/3/12 @ 8:00 AM. JOHN SET THE TIME, NOT ME. THIS IS EARLY FOR ME, BUT JOHN SAID THE TECH NEEDED TO GET AN EARLY START. I AGREED. I WAS READY FOR THE TECH TO ARRIVE @ 8:00 AM, BUT HE NEVER SHOWED UP. I WAITED, THINKING HE MIGHT HAVE BEEN DELAYED @ HIS PRIOR APPOINTMENT. WHEN HE HADN'T ARRIVED BY 9:30 AM, I CALLED HOWARD AIR. I EXPLAINED THE SITUATION TO THEM & WAS GIVEN TO BRUCE, A MANAGER. BRUCE SAID HE DIDN'T KNOW WHAT HAD HAPPENED. I WAS ON THE BOOKS FOR AN APPOINTMENT @ 8:00 AM THAT DAY, BUT IT WASN'T PUT ON THE TECH'S SCHEDULE. HE SAID HE WOULD GET SOMEONE OVER TO MY HOUSE, & AS A COURTESY FOR THE PROBLEMS, THE COMPANY WOULD TAKE CARE OF ALL REPAIRS , IF ANY WERE NEEDED. THE TECH FINALLY ARRIVED AROUND 10:00 AM. HE WAS POLITE & PROFESSIONAL. AFTER HIS CHECK, I WAS INFORMED THE CHARGES FOR REPAIRS WOULD BE $108.94 FOR ONE PART & $527.71 FOR ANOTHER PART. SO MUCH FOR BRUCE'S PROMISE TO TAKE CARE OF THE NEEDED REPAIRS. I DECLINED TO GET THE WORK DONE.

I called this morning and scheduled a service call because our A/C unit had quit working. They told me they could get someone out this afternoon and asked if that was acceptable. I agreed and scheduled the appointment for this afternoon. The office was very polite and helpful on the phone. The technician (Mike) called when he was on his way as promised and showed up on time. He went straight to work, diagnosed the problem, fixed it, and then took the time to explain everything to us. He was very polite, informative, and professional. I would definitely use this company again, and I highly recommend using them.
Description of Work: The technician diagnosed our A/C unit, informed us it was a problem with the blower, and he fixed the problem with a minor repair.

I'm not sure if the quotation is competitive, but do know the price for the visit was more than worth it, and trust Christian to give me an honest appraisal.
Description of Work: John in the scheduling department is extremely customer service oriented and accommodating. I'd gotten an Angie's list coupon for this company, and although my house is in Chandler and they're in Cave Creek, they were able to schedule on my desired day. Christian performed a very thorough inspection and presented my with a quote for what my A/C needed in order to function properly. I'm not sure if it's a competitive quotation, but do know the price for the visit was more than worth it.

Had purchased a special through Angie's list. Was very pleased with the amount of time and cleanliness of the gentlemen that came to service the units. We were in the process of moving into the house and wanted to make sure everything was working properly. Cleaned the outside units as well as went into the "hot" attic to check everything out. Would definitely hire again.

Initially I was impressed with Howard Air's reviews from Angie's List. However, I found this service to be a little pricey. The service tech did take a lot of time (about 3 hours approx) to check out everything. He was courteous and timely. I did not have time to double check all his work but he did go into the attic to checkout the blower fan and condensate lines. There are a lot of other companies who offer this type of service for a cheaper price. In a recent check, the company itself has apparently lowered the A/C check price to $50 unit, so the price I paid seems to be a bit arbitrary. I am hoping I got what I paid for. Only time will tell. One thing to note: the price advertised by Howard Air and many other competitors are per A/C unit only (and NOT one price per home). So, just be aware that if you have multiple split units and zones dedicated to multiple zones then you will have to multiply the amount with the number of units being serviced. (most 2000-3000 sq. ft. houses have 2 units). Any taxes are, as always, are extra also. So, overall, I am ok with the service but the price I paid appeared to be a bit steep and somewhat aribitrary. I can only trust they did a great job for the price.

Very nice people to work with, from the receptionist, to the coordinator to Julio himself. I like that they confirm the appt. time.
Description of Work: Julio came out and serviced my two roof-top units, cleaned the coils, replaced some wiring, changed the filters, installed new P-traps and rerouted them to drain off the roof and other maintenance items.

On the day of the installation, I was told that they will be at my house early in the morning 6:00 - 7:00AM. Got up early, booted my son out of the room because that was where the access to the attic was. They rolled-in at about 8:00AM. Despite the lateness, I still rated them an A on Punctuality, because they had the unit installed quickly before the promised time. The guys were great, very courteous and friendly. A supervisor as well as my sales rep came by to check on how things were going and helped out too. Felt sorry for the guy working in the attic; AZ summers are brutal. After the work was done, we went over the checklist of items delivered. I thought they were very professional, mindful of the house, and I felt we were really taken care of.
Description of Work: I've had my Trane unit for 18 years, the condenser outside and air handler upstairs in the attic. Both had to be replaced. Had a few quotes and in terms of cost, availability, quality, and customer representative we went with Howard Air.

They came for an estimate on replacing one of our A/C compressor units and gave us a great price on a Trane unit, saying that it would be compatible with the Lennox air handler that we already had. We were very happy with them, they seemed very honest, nice, knowledgeable, and reasonably priced, plus they had great reviews on Angie's List, which is how we found them. So we canceled another contractor who was ready to do the work the next day, signed a contract with Howard Air, and made an appointment for later that week. They called the day before to cancel and rescheduled for a week later. They didn't show up. When we called, they said the appointment was not until the following sunday, and they did not have the Trane unit we were offered available yet. Ok. So we waited until Sunday, again noone showed up. When we called, they said they were coming on monday, but again, the Trane was not available. Then another employee told us they were not even sure if they had any Tranes available at all, and could maybe give us a different brand instead. Then they said maybe we should just cancel our contract and get someone else to do it (which is what we finally ended up doing). Offering us something you don't have, not making your appointments, and backing out of your own contract is completely unacceptable. Also keep in mind that this is summer in Arizona, and delaying our AC repair for 2.5 weeks was not fun for us. Ridiculous.

Member, Howard Air is completely sorry that your recent experience was less than perfect. We strive to be the best and provide the most honest service in the valley. According to our records we did sit down with you on a Sunday (7/1) to determine best course of action for one the 7 systems currently in your home. By only replacing the condenser unit and not the complete system limited the options available for the current R-22 equipment. Nevertheless, we promised a specific Trane model and had a very hard time getting that model delivered which left us two options; offer a comparable model that is in stock or wait until the model can be located. Unfortunately, we would never want the second option since the comparable models we offered had same efficiency ratings and brand. We apologize for the scheduling misunderstanding which made you believe we were installing on Sunday (7/8). Although, we are available 24/7 for service; installations are only Monday-Saturday. We offered to install on Monday (7/9) but you were unavailable the entire week. We hope you will choose Howard Air for any future business and give us a second chance.

The schedulers were friendly and helpful.The repair man was knowledgeable and helpful.
Description of Work: Used coupon purchased from Angie's list for air conditioning maintenance service.They were efficient, punctual, professional. Let us know that we had a capacitorneeding replacement, and that it was under warranty. Suggested we contact thecompany that had installed the system, and they replaced it. We would definitely call them again for any airconditioning needs.

Although the second leak was somewhat different than the first leak, I was not charged anything at all for the second repair and recharge. We are certainly pleased that our home is cool now that the outside temperatures are over 110, and that Howard Air resolved the problem without a second cost to us. We highly recommend Howard Air.
Description of Work: We have 2 Rheem heat pumps which were installed over 1 year ago and are still under warranty. Howard Air was not the original installer. One of the heat pumps stopped cooling in April 2012. Howard Air came to our home the same day I called and determined that the evaporator coil had leaked and all the refrigerant was lost. They requested a replacement coil from Rheem, but there were none in Phoenix at that time. The new coil arrived approximately 2 weeks later, and Howard Air installed it and recharged the unit with refrigerant on April 19. The Rheem warranty covered parts but not labor, so I had to pay Howard Air for their work, approximately $1400.Everything seemed fine, and we left town for a long vacation. When we returned home in mid-June, the same heat pump was running, but not cooling. Howard Air again came to our home on June 20, the same day I called. They determined that the unit had again leaked and all the refrigerant was again lost. This time the leak was near the compressor. Julio was able to re-solder the area of the leak and recharge the unit, and it has been operating fine during the 3 weeks since.
