We purchased two "mid-summer preventive maintenance" packages (because we have two HVAC units) offered by Howard Air through Angie's List. Scheduling the appointment was both easy and pleasant, with great responsiveness from the company. The technician arrived on time and with everything needed for the task at hand. He was very thorough, very knowledgeable, and quite willing to help us understand all he was doing. Because we lived with out AC (in Northern California) for 18 years and because we'd never had dual systems before, the technician took some extra time to help us understand how to balance the systems and keep the parts of the house we were using cool while still keeping our electrical usage down. The overall experience was good from beginning to end, and we'd definitely recommend Howard Air to anyone needing this kind of service.

Over all I am ok with Howard Air just caution others to call the vendors BEFORE purchasing the specials from Angie's List, to make sure the company can perform the action that you want.
Description of Work: I bought the service for 70 from Angies List, then called and talked with Howard Air. BEFORE I buy another deal from Angie's I will call the company first. I was under the impression that Howard Air also did AIR Ducts. Which is really what I wanted was my ducts cleaned. They do not do air ducts. While here though the rep was professional and checked out my air system. It need a part, which he had on his truck, that was an additional 185.00. The air conditioner is blowing cooler air. So at least that worked out :)

Tech went onto the roof, checked my unit. He found some anti-freeze and checked for leaks, found none. He adjusted all my vents for maximum heat and coolness in the rooms. He also checked the filter and gave me the dimensions to buy a new one. He was thorough and professional. I would definitely use them again

They have become my AC company of choice.
Description of Work: I purchased a Big Deal for $59.99. I had to purchase 3 Big Deals, one for each heat pump. They serviced all three heat pumps for my house. They were also here last year and corrected a major problem with an air conditioner. They re-installed it for me, and it has now worked without a problem.

I have a split system and I recently replaced the downstairs unit, but my upstairs unit has been having issues all summer. I recently saw an ad for 36mos no intrest through trane and decided to call Howard air for an estimate. I called them first based on reviews on angies list as well as family members who have used them. I have to say their sales Rep Bryan was very knowledgeable and friendly. I honestly wasn't plannining on buying that day just wanted an estimate and information on the financing. Well Bryan was able to work with his company and actually get me better terms on the financing and since this was a Trane unit I decided to go ahead and do it. Bryan also had his guys repair some duct work. Install date was very quick and the techs that showed Francisco and hs crew were very friendly and great with my dogs (even though they were being a pain in the butt). They were very clean and completed the work as promised. They even repaired a bunch of the duct work I have been having issues with, but I will get to that in a minute. During the install Bryan showed up to check on the install which is great, typically once you sign the contract you never see them again. Thought it was great he followed up. I have to say I was very impressed with Francisco and his crew they went above and beyond what I expected. Once the actual install was completed he walked me through what was done. I have had an issue with airflow in my upstairs and especially in the master bath. Well we went around and I still didn't feel hardly anything in the master bath or closet. Francisco said that is because of the way the air duct was orginally installed. He said to give him a minute and he would call his supervisor on what they could do. I honestly expected him to say we could fix it for extra $$$. On the contrary he ended up telling me his boss was on the way with the needed materials to redo the duct work. I was honestly in a bit of shock, good shock, but shock. Only took a few minutes for them to get the needed equipment and they were off to work again. Within another hour they had the duct work redone and it was a HUGE difference. I could feel comfortable airflow in all the rooms where as before one room was a tornado and the other was nothing. So I can't say enough about how Francisco and his crew did a great job as well as the knowledge and professionalism of Bryan as well. I will definitly be using howard air for my future needs.

Howard Air came to the house assessed the needs of our A/C units. Determined the main A/C was shot, and the secondary A/C needed repairs. They were prompt, courteous, and professional. Completed the work in a timely manner. Cleaned up after themselves.

I felt that Howard Air was just dawdling with some things that needed taken care of, so that the warranty period would run out and I'd need to pay for that work. Part of the contract was that the registers would be balanced. They did not do it at installation, as the contract specified. It took them four more calls afterward to finally get it right. Twice I called because it was blowing hot air, or working overtime just to keep it down to 80 degrees! The new company found a freon leak, and it cost me $500 to fix it. I was disgusted with Howard Air's service.
Description of Work: I bought a new air conditioning unit, with installation, from them, in addition to a service and parts warranty.

We do take customer service serious and have built our company around quality referrals for over 30 years. This is the basis of our company’s mission statement. However, every review will be treated with the opportunity to increase the already high level of service we provide. We do remember your situation specifically and believe we did everything in our power to satisfy your requests. There was a Freon leak identified and corrected on 12/2010 which was under warranty with no cost to you. We have made several visits to your home to find registers closed and thermostat programming erased which all work together to guarantee your desired temperatures are maintained. We also sent you a check for $370.13 in December of 2011 for all out of pocket repair expenses you occurred while we attempted to balance your system. It is not uncommon to take 3 to 4 visits to balance a home in attempts to make every room the same temperature. We identified existing issues with the ductwork that needed to be corrected as part of our balancing. We are sorry to hear you chose another company to make the repairs on your home when we would have repaired your system that is under warranty for free. Instead they charged you $500 which you asked Howard Air to pay. We are truly sorry that our relationship was not able to be resolved without a review on Angie’s List. We never wanted you to experience “A” rated service in 2008 to have a “F” rated experience in 2010. However, we will learn from every instance and make our service better, thank you!

When Mike Clark first came out earlier in April, he said that there was a problem with the air conditioner & they suggested we repair it. He wanted to change both blowers but I didn't want him to, because we thought everything was working fine. However, he moved his truck away from our house & went on the roof & worked on the upstairs blower anyway, saying that it had failed. Ever since, we've had problems. I wasn?t home much this summer so I didn?t have time to take care of it again until now. The man who was here, Mike Romeo, when I called in September, came out & said that someone had touched the air conditioner. He said he made it work but it does not cool. It's 90 degrees in the house - I can't believe how hot it was. Every time he comes out he says that everything is fixed & taken care of. He says to call him if it breaks down again. He said that he we could give them our keys to allow him access when I'm not home & to check the roof vents. I prefer to be home & the roof tiles are very delicate. It's just so unbearably hot ? I get up sick every morning. I don?t want to have repair people constantly coming out & telling me that everything is fine when the air conditioner is not blowing! Whatever is in there it's wrong - They keep on fixing it & fixing it & every time it gets worse. We spent a lot of money on this air conditioner & I now want it replaced.
Description of Work: I called in April to have them service the air conditioner which was installed in 2010. We've had problems ever since. I called in September because the air condition was no working.

It went well, the inspection was more than we expected and they described what might be an issue to watch for in the future and what might be the solution and cost of the repair.

I thought I got off cheap, after several years of neglect on my part (that is after I paid the $59 for the semi-annual service on the A/C.) I would definitely use them again. Phone spokesperson was always responsive and efficient. Just feels like a professional company from start to finish. I would not have been surprised if someone had told me I had to spend $100's to update or restore my old system so I am one happy camper.
Description of Work: DId an excellent job on checking out my older A/C system, found one component (a condenser I think it was called) that was, according to his test, nearing the end of it's life. I asked him to replace it rather than wait for failure. The part and installation cost was $151.

Prompt response to set up an estimate, and we agreed that they should do the work, all in one day. Crew showed up on time to install a large number of vents; however, they had brought no instrument for balancing the system. Installing the vents took only a few hours and then this crew left the premise. It took a couple of calls to the office in order to reschedule another person at a later date to get the system balanced as contracted. This second person, on a second date, did show up on time and did preform the service in an excellent manner. ,A slight mess up on the timing schedule but other wise I was perfectly happy with their job and services. Sure, I would use them again.
Description of Work: Decided to install some better air vents and have the system balanced within a newly purchased home in North Scottsdale.

I worked with 2 very good people at Howard Air. The first was Forrest Bevaqua who left the company after my first meeting with him. He did a great job checking everything out & he was the one who found the problem with the joists & took pictures. The second person I worked with was Brian Knoblock who was also very nice & helpful. All the workers (there were alot of them) from roofers to air conditioning people to drywallers & painters were neat (they always wore booties in the house) & were also very polite. I was very pleased with the work they did & they also got everything done in one day. I would use them again & would highly recommend them to anyone else.

The tech showed up on time and was very thorough. He did some minor work and made recommendations that made sense to us. We had him back to replace the motor do other minor repairs. He was on time for the follow-up visit as well. He was very professional and We had no issues with the work.
Description of Work: The tune-up was fine, but we were told the coils needed to be cleaned when I don't think he was even able to look at them - he was just making an assumption. It was probably a correct assumption, but the cost quoted was very high! We inquired about a service plan - and only then did he mention it included the coil cleaning, and would be cheaper than just doing them separately. So he wasn't trying to up-sell us, but in this case a more complete explaination of our options would have been good.

They were very professional. They came in an assessed the situation, then they sat down with me and explained what their company does and what different air conditioners do. They spent a lot of time with me and gave a lot of information. They didn't rush me at all and were very friendly and courteous through the whole project.
Description of Work: I hired them to install a brand new air conditioner and then to do the follow up maintenance work.
