George Brazil Plumbing and Electrical

I just thought they where over priced and I think they where in a hurry. I would not use them again and I would go with someone else. You know how you don't get a good feeling about someone. I felt that we got ripped off because other plumbers where doing the same service for about 65 dollars.

After attempting to fix a slow leak from a bathroom sink valve ourselves, we contacted George Brazil Plumbing and Electric Tuesday night to properly seat our faucet and fix our own repair. We booked an appointment that evening for Wednesday afternoon and went to bed that night with the water off to prevent water damage from the leak. Promptly at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, George Brazil contacted us and told us the serviceman would be arriving shortly. Later on we met an extremely personable plumber who was nothing if not professional and we asked for an estimate on our problem as well as a few other minor fixes in other rooms. We were shocked to hear that a single faucet and valve replacement was $600.00 plus parts and that another shower handle would add on $1300.00. We were in a tight spot and needed the work done so we agreed to 1 faucet and asked the man to use the valves we provided and the feeder hoses that came with our already purchased faucet replacement. He told us that he would prefer to use his own parts to allow for a 1 year warranty so each valve replacement was $100.00 and the faucet installation was $400.00. With tax and cost of labor it came to $675.00 after the $35.00 coupon from Angie's list. All in all, it was successful and we are pleased with the work but not the price. I highly suggest you look elsewhere for incidental repairs and replacements, and always buy your new faucets and fixtures from Home Depot or Costco and not the service truck. That alone would have added $300.00 to our already high bill.

I have them for annual maintenance twice a year. They have a good reputation. I know several people who use them so they seem to do just fine.

THREE STRIKES AND OUT FOR GEORGE BRAZIL: Early in the cooling season of 2013, we called a no-name plumber to do an annual A/C checkup for the advertised $69.95. The guy came out, checked out my A/C and said I needed a new starter capacitor and it would be about $500 to install. Didn't trust his high pressure hard-sell and didn't want to make an on the spot quick decision, so we decided to wait and replace if it goes out later. The capacitor lasted all of 2013. In 2014, we called GEORGE BRAZIL. (Episode 1) They did the annual check and the technician said we needed the capacitor (which we thought maybe the first guy was right) but GEORGE BRAZIL was over $100 less than the first guy - so we had it done. We were happy (temporarily). In the fall, we called GEORGE BRAZIL (episode 2) to give us a heating season check up. At that time the technician noted we had starter problems and needed a repair at over $600 to replace a gas starter valve. (Natural gas furnace unit). He also recommended instead we get a new furnace unit which would pay for itself on energy savings. A couple days later, the technician and a marketing guy gave us a cost presentation. Since our house was only 8 years old we thought that spending $2,000 was out of the question. So we declined and so far everything has been working fine. In our third episode, we had two faucets that dripped. I called GEORGE BRAZIL replace the faucet washers expecting them to come out and do at most, an hours work to change 2 washers or o-rings. WRONG - A technician came out and explained that these newer DELTA faucets have cores which must be replaced to repair. The single handle kitchen faucet would be $339 and in the bathroom, he had to do both (because they come in pairs) for $309 each. My wife had him look at our toilet while he was here and he gave an estimate of $198.60 to replace the plunger and gasket. We even talked about a new water heater for nearly $1100. All in all I expected to pay a trip charge and an hour of labor and have 3 dripping faucets fixed. Instead, I got nothing fixed and a lot of VERY HIGH estimates for repairs. I have come to the conclusion that this is the Fox watching the Chicken Coop. Are these people really capable? I know they must he highly trained in sales techniques. The people are very likable and seem honest. I may be in my mid 70's but I am not on the last stages of dementia yet. These prices are ridiculous and now, after reading several of Angie's Comments, I regret not checking Angie's List sooner. Incidentally, the capacitor in my First episode can be purchased for as low as $99 installed. I have not confirmed what a gas start valve runs at other places BUT the furnace is still working as I write this. As for the faucets, I installed a entire NEW one in the kitchen for under$200 (because I didn't know what a core was) and the so called cores in the bathroom delta faucets were 6 for under $16. I have no drips right now but a lot of bad feelings about GEORGE BRAZIL.

I would not call this company again.

As always, they were prompt, professional, and efficient. I would tell my friends to use George Brazil for their reliability and high quality of work. Everybody here may say that they are so expensive, but I don't have to have them come out 2 or 3 times to fix whatever they have to fix.

We had one day before we were leaving town, and had a kitchen sink clog. We called George Brazil to help purely based on the TV commercials I saw on TV. They showed up on time and informed us the job will cost $450. Having no time left for us to hire someone else, we agreed to the rip off price. To add insult to injury, after the job was done, we found out that guy who performed the job had left all the slum and sewer clogs in the front yard, and we had to clean up after him. I learned a $450 lesson not to trust a TV commercial and not to hire George Brazil ever again. I believe there are so many businesses that you can hire that will do a much better job for a much less price. I recommend not to hire George Brazil for plumbing.

They have great work ethic and are always on time. I do think that they are a little pricey though. The work is always excellent however

The toilet was clogging up and wouldn't flush. They fixed it and were very thorough. We ended up replacing the toilet with a better model. The toilet is more efficient and stronger. We're very happy with this company.

After checking, the tech, Nick said that the outlet was working but, was a little small for the job and suggested that we put a dedicated circuit breaker in and run the line through the attic and gave us a quote for that and, that the cord to the spa was damaged too. He then noticed that one of our smoke alarms was missing (due to painters knocking it loose) and mentioned that most smoke alarms only last 10 years even those, like ours, that are hard-wired. He then gave us a quote for 4 new smoke alarms. He stated that they really needed fixed. We told him we had them checked and they were working properly at this time (except the broken one) and that the insurance company had been contacted. Nick may be a good tech but, he is not a people person. He was distant and a little stand-offish. The next day, today, we were contacted and told that "an anonymous caller" had reported us as having no working smoke alarms. We were given one week to fix or, $2000. fine. We contacted the insurance company and they are fixing.

Work was completed but the bill came to about $500. That was our first house and relatives (other home owners) told us we were completely ripped off and could have purchased and installed a new toilet for that amount. We understand that now and we were not Angie's List subscribers at the time. Granted, this repair was about 14 years ago but we have never used George Brazil's plumbing service again and will not recommend them. UPDATE: A MANAGER NEVER CALLED TO FOLLOW UP.

On a Saturday night my toilet was leaking so much it had gone into the next room closet before it was discovered. I was having a party at the time and one person at my home recommended Brazil because they would come out on a Sunday. They called the company for me right then on a Saturday night, last night, and someone from the company called this morning and within an hour the gentleman plumber was here fixing it. He said it was an easy fix and that as as long as he was here could he make the call worthwhile by checking out anything else. By the way the $39 service charge is waved for services done. I had him replace some older parts on that toilet and the same on the other toilet, as well as some rusted bolts on the inside of the other tank. The serviceman was prompt, polite and efficient. I thought the Sunday call would cost more but it did not.

Very good experiecne. They are not the cheapest in town but they are fast and efficient.

I told them they were too expensive. They overpriced themselves. If you can afford them, they may be good. I didn't get a chance to rate them.

I used Them a couple of months ago. They put in 3 uphol house search protectors. They were prompt and on time. It was a great job and since they work quickly and we're done.

Two major concerns: 1. Despite their website indicating a free estimate, we were charged a $39.95 "dispatch fee", plus tax. This misunderstanding might have been because only our 21 year old daughter was home at the time of their arrival. Which leads to . . . 2. Although their arrival time was specifically communicated to be between 2 and 6 in the afternoon, they were at our house at 10:40 in the morning. Ordinarily one might think this was a good thing, but since we were out of town in the morning and were driving back specifically in order to be home by noon in plenty of time for their appointment, this arrival time was a considerable inconvenience. It was especially annoying since we had already had to re-schedule from a previous time when we could not be at the house. We tried earnestly to carry on a phone conversation with the tech while on the road home, but it was virtually useless as we were unable to grasp the substantial and unexpected work they were proposing without seeing it. Our daughter (who had no knowledge of the scheduled appointment, but was simply unfortunate enough to be the only one home when they arrived) felt pressured by the tech to agree to over $4,400 worth of repairs while we were not home, and in the end agreed to pay for a service call when we were supposed to be arranging a free estimate. She even had to write a check from our account and sign as her mother in order to make the (unanticipated) payment. We chose not to have this extensive work done by George Brazil, and subsequently were told by others of similar issues with this company. This experience was simply not one that would encourage me to do business with them.

They're a standard shop. He came out right away when I called. It was an emergency so I didn't have a choice to shop around.

George Brazil Home Services did what they said they were going to do for the price and they were able to come out quickly which was good because I had arranged it with someone else who didn't come out and we wanted to move into the house. They were there when I called for them and they did a really good job.

We do not have to wait when we call them, we are a platinum customer. We have been very pleased with them. We have done several projects with them.

After getting a few other estimates, I did not use this company.I ended up purchasing a new toilet from Home Depot for under $200 and they did the installation for $99. Saved myself at least $500 going this route!

Very badly. The bottom line was that the service technician was at my house for 45 minutes, installed $25.00 in parts, and charged $438.00. They told me they had a trip fee of $35.00, which would be waived if I authorized the work, but then they charged another fee for "troubleshooting", of $143.50, even though I told them what the problem was. I then felt pressured to have them do additional work which was not needed. The next day I called George Brasil to ask why the cost was so much, and I was re-routed to several people, none of which returned my call. I WOULD BE VERY CAREFUL ABOUT DEALING WITH THIS FIRM!

Called for a plumber to fix a very difficult problem. He spent about two hours without any success, he did not give up and finally fixed the problem. Jason D. is an excellent employee

Very professional. Called first to get photos of breaker so he had exact part upon arrival. I paid extra to have him come at midnight but well worth it.

My grandmother needed to have two electrical outlets replaced. It turned out after the tech did the troubleshooting, it was determined that now 5 outlets were going to have to be replaced? After the "pushy" tech urged that the whole property be rewired for an absurd amount, she decided to just get fixed what needed to be fixed at that time. The 5 outlets that were replaced came to over $1,015.00 dollars before tax! The total for the invoice was $1076.76! When you break that down, that's over $675.00 an hour for the 1 1/2 hours that it took to complete the job. When she showed me the invoice I felt absolutely terrible, because I was the one who recommended that she call George Brazil. I did call George Brazil and was told the manager was in a meeting so I was sent to his voice mail. I left a message stating my concern and to call me back to discuss the invoice. A week went by and I received no call, so I called back and asked for the manager again and he couldn't take my call because he was in another meeting? I was wasting my time trying to get a hold of this guy and had enough at this point and left another voice mail letting him know how unhappy I was that they charged my grandmother this ridiculous amount of money for this job and don't bother returning my call....He wouldn't have anyway. I ended talking to a friend of mine who knew an electrician and had him come out to look at what was done. I was told by this electrician that he would have troubleshot and completed the job for between $250.00 - $300.00. I really wish that I would have contacted that electrician before mentioning to my grandmother to call George Brazil, but I figured that a couple of outlets shouldn't be too expensive. I had expected that she would have to pay a little more because George Brazil is a big name, but I never expected the repair would have come to over one thousand bucks! I am never going to recommend George Brazil to anyone again, or ever call them myself. I would highly recommend using another company instead of any work that George Brazil does. If you do call George Brazil, at least get another estimate from someone else before they do any work for you, so you don't get ripped off either.

Needed a plumber to look at my shower faucets. He quoted for the work, I ok'd it. He began, realized he could not do the work and then stopped but still charged me. I took this as a lesson learned and decided I would not call again. The tech was really great and was punctual. I appreciated his professionalism. !!!!!!UPDATE!!!!!!!! 9/24/12 I received a call from management at GB regarding my comments made earlier. He showed concern and wanted to amend the situation. He explained it was not their policy to charge the full price when they can not complete the work. He apologized and refunded a portion of the original bill. I HAVE NEVER received such a gracious and courteous response to being unhappy with a service. I am greatly impressed by this company and though they were not able to help me with my plumbing issues, they will be the first company I call with any household issues that may arise in the future.
