Doors Plus

Our kitchen pocket door was installed circa 1959 and has been functioning worse and worse each year until recently when it was nearly impossible to make it roll out. We saw Doors Plus' add in a neighborhood newspaper and gave him a call. He came by, inspected the door, and explained what the problems might be. He gave us an estimate and we scheduled him to come a couple of weeks later. Because the door was old, and the way it had been installed was not one currently done, it was necessary to find parts to rebuild the rollers hanging the door to the rail. Willis, the owner of Doors Plus, worked with his network of suppliers, but could not find new parts to replace the old parts, and instead, rebuilt the parts himself. Long story short, he managed to hang a new door with the old rollers, without tearing a hole in the wall, as he had warned might need to be done originally. He was very neat, and meticulous in his work and we are very satisfied with the job done, so much, we had him replace our front door also.

Doors Plus had done such a good job on a pocket door replacement that we hired him to replace the front door to our house. Our front door was old, thin wood paneled and cracking. I was concerned we were losing heat/AC from the door, it's lack of insulation as well as poor fit, and wanted a new Energy Efficient door installed. Willis gave us two catalogs of doors from companies he recommended, and preferred to work with. We chose one that we thought was very nice and of moderate price. We had to order the door and wait for it to arrive, but that was not a problem for us. As with the replacement of the pocket door that Willis had done, he was meticulous in his work and the installation was done in a timely manner. The door works wonderfully and seals easily. The job did take a couple of days, but that was due to the re-framing of the door, as well as rectifying problems he found with our 1959-built door frame. The door had not been insulated originally and Willis insulated around the block wall housing the new door frame. Throughout the process, Willis showed us the problems he encountered, and how he would solve them, providing a great education in how our home had been built. We are considering having additional work done in the house if Willis is conducive. While I gave Doors Plus a B for cost, I know I could have had a cheaper, less expensive job done by going through one of the "big box" stores, but I am pretty sure they would not have taken the care Willis did to do as high quality a job as he did.
