Donley A/C & Plumbing

The salesman was very nice, professional, and aggressive. He added a bunch of things to the duct work (new) in the attic that I don't believe was necessary - therefore the price was increased. He used heavy-handed sales tactics like "this price is only good till Dec 31" and I'll be on vacation next week so you need to order now! I also asked how much longer my units would last and he said he wasn't a technician, he came to give me prices on new units. So then my mind asks, if you're not a technician, then how can you say I need all this new duct work in the attic. So this was the main reason I didn't go with them (except for the really high quote) - I didn't want a salesman telling me what I needed. It was just a very high pressure sales call. Felt like a used car dealer.

I am happy with them. It has been fine. It was a little expensive, but it was under the gun, and they did it fast and got it done. The water heater costs like $800 and the annual service is $275 or something like that which was done almost a year ago in March. The service was great. They were knowledgeable and on-time. They hit the ground running and were in and out. I actually had it in the truck when he pulled up. The worker was great. He looked great, acted great, and very professional. What stood out was the time it took him to do it and the time to respond to my needs. The company did that. I called the service. They sent him out and it was great. There was speed and it was done right. I would recommend them to a friend.

They had been out earlier and identified a problem that seemed to correct itself. However, the problem continued...they came back out...found the problem and fixed it, and refunded us the money for the original call. They were responsive, capable and responsible.

More than Great! We will continue to use them.

The furnaces were in good condition and required no repairs. We have used Donley at our Scottsdale house since 1996 for spring service on the air conditioning units and fall service on the furnaces. In 2009 we purchased new heating and cooling units from Donley. Prior to 1994 we used Donley to service the furnace and air conditioner at our house in northwest Phoenix. Nearly all interactions with Donley over the years have been positive. Note: The reason that the cost of the latest service is listed as zero is that several years of service were included with the 2009 purchase of the new units.

The tech was absolutely professional and did a great job fixing and leaving eveything exactly how it was before with zero mess. The problem is the price. After asking around for how much I was charged, people were shocked. Unfortunately I didn't know any better. Also, I was supposed to get $35 off my Angie's List referral and didn't get that either.

Donley checked both heat pump systems and replaced one capacitor. We have had two other HVAC service companies in the past, both starting out great then the service quality erodes over time. Donley has been great, is competitively priced, has great techs, and gave us a 10% discount on the capacitor install with annual service agreements. We would recommend them and they would be the first choice if either heat pump unit (10 yrs old each) failed and needed to be replaced.

Excellent service. We had a party planned for the evening & our refrigerator started leaking all over the kitchen floor. Donley came out on a Saturday (late aftn) and fixed the leak in the water line. Was very prompt & thorough. Definitely recommend this service!

They were great and everything went well.

We bought a AC gas-pack from Donley five years ago and still use them for our warranty service package. Great company from the office staff through their service technicians.

There were two calls. One for a Leakey outside faucet. They came the same morning. The next day the faucet in the shower broke away from the wall and I had to turn the water off to the house. They were here within the hour. The plumber explained what needed to be done gave me a quote and did the work quickly and professionally.

They were great. Put tons of freon in the old system to keep us comfortable until they installed the new unit.

Donley service center is wonderful to work with. The a/c at my rental was not working properly. They worked with my renter and fixed the unit which is 30 feet off the ground on top of a roof. Class act and reasonably priced, they helped calm my renter down and performed the work in a timely matter. The each made suggestions that I could look at doing in the future if I have more problems. It was really nice that he shared what I could do when I was ready. I have used this company many times and will continue to use them. They are the best out there!

We noticed a fair amount of water under our kitchen sink. We were also having fairly constant dripping from the master shower head. After cleaning it up and putting a towel in place to try to prevent further damage, called Donley. A plumber arrived within a couple of hours. After review, he told us we needed a new faucet in the kitchen and a new cartridge in the master shower. He suggested that it would be best for us to purchase the parts ourselves, both so we could select style (could not match the old faucet, which was 15 years old), and so we could save money. We purchased and called Donley again a couple of days later when the parts were in. Donley would have sent the same plumber, but he was not working that day and we were concerned about the amount of leaking. So they sent a different person. He had to cut the old faucet off at the counter level, because the screws underneath the counter were rusted closed. He managed to do this without damaging our granite counter. He installed the new faucet and the new cartridge in the shower, and had everything finished in about 2 hours. He suggested that we needed to really get the area under the sink dried out. A couple of days later, a connecter for our reverse osmosis line under the kitchen sink broke and we again had water everywhere. Although we probably could have replaced it ourselves, we decided to call Donley. Again, a plumber arrived within a couple of hours, as promised. He fixed the connector quickly, and then told us that we had danger of mold under both the kitchen sink and the smaller "bar" sink in the kitchen, the latter caused by prior problems with the R/O system. He offered to contact a company that specializes in such thinks, and when we agreed he did so. We had a person from that company at our house within an hour. During the ensuing work to repair the water damage, it became clear that we needed a plumber again -- this time to repair the emergency shut-off switches below both of the sinks. They were not functioning correctly. I called Donley, again had a plumber here (one of the same ones we'd had before) within a couple of hours, and he made the repairs, working compatibly with the workmen who were in the kitchen for wall and cabinet repairs. He even replaced a p-trap that appeared to be damaged at no additional cost. Overall we couldn't have asked for prompter, more courteous, or more professional service. Although we are not thrilled at having to have our kitchen torn up, we think the Donley people were right to warn us of the mold (there was some) and to urge us to get it taken care of. The company they put us in touch with is established, professional, and very prompt, so we are happy with that recommendation.

A/C unit stopped working Saturday night. Called Donley early Sunday morning and they were out within a couple hours. The Service Technician, Matt, was very professional and thorough. Fixed the unit and did not try and "pad" the invoice. I would trust Donley again.

We have known Jim Donley, the owner, for about 12 years, and have used his company to service our rental home and primary residence for air conditioning, service calls and even hot water heaters. Both homes are located in Ahwatukee. For this project, Mike, our salesperson, went out of his way to make the install work on July 5, a Saturday. He even picked up the AC unit himself on July 3 prior to the holiday. Daniel and his co-worker spent all day at the two-story home to ensure the project was done right. I did not talk to Daniel until the end, but my wife was very pleased with the way the installation went. Very professional. We can already tell there is a significant difference in the quality of the AC. The system is also very quiet compared to the old unit. We highly recommend Donley Service Center!

They're absolutely outstanding. They're very honest, forthright, they don't sell you anything you don't need, they're very knowledgeable, they show up on time and they're careful about bringing in dirt in the house. The pump was about $700. We needed a single valve put in and then we decided to do a room upstairs an he did that one for free.

I absolutely love them. I've used them for 20 years and I had a home warranty with them so anytime I had an air conditioner or heating problem, I would move at the top of their list. They came out twice a year and did some inspection. They got the air conditioner and the heater all tuned up and ready for the seasons. The only reason I left them is because the house I bought, I had a home warranty on it and the home warranty company would not work with Donley. I talked to Donley about it and he said that they got tired of not being able to get authorized to do the right work on a particular job.They would have them come back and then the customers are getting mad at them instead of the home warranty company. So they stopped doing business with them. So I said much as I love them, I've got to have that home warranty in case the air conditioners go out and need to be replaced or anything else in the house goes wrong. Unfortunately, I have to drop my Donley warranty so I could keep my American Home Shield warranty. They are a wonderful company. I will give them my highest recommendation.

We contacted two companies for estimates. Unlike the other bidder, Donley identified a positioning problem with the existing unit and included ductwork in the bid to reposition unit for improved serviceability. Their bid was comparable to the competition but it included the extra ducting. They were very quality conscious and communicated throughout the entire procedure. We were extremely pleased with them and would not hesitate to use them again.

They did well. Everything was on schedule. The price was as agreed. They were very forthcoming about what they were doing and why they were doing it. They were priced very competitively. So all in all it was as expected. It was a good experience and it was a major expense.

We've used Donley before for AC work and been happy with their service so we called them again when there was a blockage in our sewer line. The first tech came out as arranged and snaked the drain. He said there were roots in the pipe and needed to call in his supervisor who had a camera they could put through the lines. Steve came out the next day and called me back with the news. There was a major break due to roots and it would cost us $2781 plus tax; which included our preferred customer discount. When I questioned him on the cost, he said it was due to having to blue stake the yard, two men needed to be present for blue staking and presumably the work, a bobcat was needed to dig up the yard, backfill and fix the rock landscape and repair the pipe. When I pointed out blue staking is a free service, he told me Donley had to be there when they came. When I called blue stake myself, they confirmed it was a free service and they didn't need anyone present since all the utilities come out at different times to mark the various utilities. Steve did not seem happy when I told him I was going to get a second opinion and I heard what a mistake I was making since it could delay them doing the repairs. I then called Day and Night Air Conditioning and Heating. Victor Hickman came out that night after 5, checked the line and said there were some minor roots but everything looked pretty clear. He wasn't going to charge me for the service call since all he did was look at the line and declare the roots were very minor from an old palm that had been removed years prior. I felt bad since he came out after 5, so I bought a $60 root treatment which he said was optional. We still haven't used the treatment and six months later, we've not had another problem with a blockage. Victor at Day and Night saved us $3,000 and for that, we are forever grateful and will use them again.

Very responsive service. A/C wasblowing hot air. found piece of insulation was preventing the cool air entering the hourse. Second day, my mother called complaining the house was very hot 86 degrees. Found out the old thermostat was not working properly - 18 years old. Replaced with a new LCD thermostat so my mother can read temp as needed. Trust me she will. Was not charge a second trip charge, just the cost of the new thermostat. Very pleased. Have used for nearly three years. Always professional, polite and responsive.

aid I'm on the Home Comfort Program with Donley, so they come out 2x per year at no charge. Just happens that my A/C started smelling like burnt toast when it kicked on, so I asked Ray (my service guy) about it and he said it was probably the coils. Turns out he was correct. Once he cleaned and flushed them out, I was no longer getting that burn odor.

Efficient, polite, thorough, competent and punctual. Tech saw something that turned out to be minor, and suggested that we investigate a new a/c system. Salesman came out, saw the issue and did not pursue the sale (asked for the sale, but that is his job) because the issue was minor enough. Felt good about the tech's attention to detail, and think that his "upgrading to potential system sale" was youthful and over-enthusiastic. The professionalism of the salesperson to see the issue as not warranting the recommendation of a new a/c system made us feel that we were dealing with people who were looking for long-term business, not the quick hit.
