Description of Work: A guy from this company came out and measured for wrought iron on my sliding glass door and bedroom window. I gave him 1,100.00 down. I was told it would be about 8 weeks before the job would be done. wednesday was 8 weeks, so I called to see the status...ALL DAY LONG the phone had a busy signal. I went to pull up their website, and no more web site existed!!!!! I called the AZ Registrar of Contractors, and they informed my they have 14 complaints all saying the same thing that this company is taking people's money and running!!!!!!!!! I have a call in to channel 12. AZ Registrar has all the family's names, and their license number. I hope you other customers check this and I would love us all to together take them to court or something!!!! 1,100.00 is a LOT of money for me to have saved up!!!!!!!!

My husband and I placed an order with Distinctive Iron on 16 May 2008 for a custom window guard. We paid an up-front 50% deposit of $612.93. Delivery was committed for 6-8 weeks. A workman came to measure in a timely fashion after the order was placed. In September 2008 we had still not received a call to sign-off the order for paint. I requested a status from our salesman, Jerry McLaughlan. Jerry responded that the raw materials had been received and fabrication would commence soon. He indicated we would receive a call to signoff the order in a few weeks. Since Sept, my husband and I have attempted many follow-ups to establish a delivery schedule, with no response. These included: * an email of 11 Nov 08, which bounced indicating Jerry has left the company. * a phone call of 12 Nov 08 * an email of 20 Nov 08 to sales (did not bounce) * an email of 10 Dec 08 to sales (did not bounce) * a personal visit to the business on 29 Dec 08 by my husband and I, where we were told by the receptionist that no one was available to speak with us and that we would get a return call the following day. The business did not call, and our call to them noted that no management was in. * Three phone calls on 17 Feb 08, with an assurance from the receptionist that the call would be returned. These calls were not returned. * An email of 17 Feb 08 to sales (did not bounce). This order is 7 months late. There has been no response from the business in 5 months (since Sept). We have filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. We would like to receive this window guard, but hope is low at this point. I will file an updated report if anything changes. We advise other Angie's List members to avoid heartache, and this business!
Description of Work: We contracted Distinctive Iron to build a custom wrought iron 4' x 6' window guard for a garage window.

This is an additional report to the one filed earlier this year. We finally did get our door, but the whole experience has been a disaster, which is too bad, because we LOVE the door. From the first day when the salesman came out, which was March 24, we were told we would have the door in 3 to 4 months; we finally received our door in the 2nd week of October - 7 months!! The company only called us twice during that time - all other communication with this horrid company was by me when I would attempt to reach someone. At all times, I received their voice mail, and they never called back. Around July, while still working with one of the designers, I did get him to work with me, and we confirmed the design for the door. I told him I would be gone the first week of September, and he assured me we would have our door by then. HA! Not hardly. My husband finally went in and talked to someone and gave the sign off for them to order the glass and complete the door. Their work order then said, it would 2-3 weeks to install give or take one week. Six weeks later, my husband again went in, it was on a Friday. He talked to the person who had done the design for us, and he went on and on about how they were behind and the reasons why, and my husband let him know what he thought about the excuses. He then saw the owner, and the owner made excuses of not having enough electricity in the building to do all the work, and that they were moving to a new location. We were afraid at this point that they were going out of business, but they gave my husband a work form with the new address and phone number on it, and also the owner gave my husband his cell phone number. From that point on, things went rather smoothly. The receptionist for this company knows nothing about customer service and should be fired. I strongly suggest you NEVER use this company even though they gave us a beautiful door.
Description of Work: On 3/25/2008 salesman came out, and we contracted with the company for a front-entry, wrought iron and glass door. Door was finally completed in October 2008, and they told us the door would be done in 3-4 months from 3/25. When they came to install they had to cut out part of the existing area because the door was 7 feet, not 6 from before. Installers did a terrific job with the door installation and the trim out.

They were not responsive at all. I called to make an appointment and they showed up 2 weeks later. The design I wanted didn t match what they did and overall I was very displeased with them. The price was not great for the quality of work they did. The whole experience was bad.
Description of Work: They installed a 6 foot wide by 12 foot tall grand entry metal door.

THEY HAVE A QUALITY PRODUCT. I COMPARED MANY WROUGHT IRON DOOR COMPANIES AND THIS DOOR WAS THE BEST I FOUND. I FOUND ONE VERY SHARP PROBLEM WITH THE DOOR AND THEY PROMPTY CAME OUT TO TRY TO FIX IT. THEY WERE NOT ABLE TO TAKE THE SHARP EDGE OFF THE DOOR FRAME. WE CUT OUR FINGERS ON IT EVERYTIME WE ENTERED OR EXITED OUR FRONT DOOR. EVENTUALLY WE RETRAINED OUR SELVES AS TO HOW TO EXIT THE DOOR.
