They gave me a quote right away. The move cost $12,000 and we were quoted $9,500. They seemed pretty professional when they came out to give the quote. Even the people packing and unloading were nice. I had some damaged furniture and I went through a bunch of different calls and never got the damaged furniture resolved. The packers packed stuff really strangely. They didn't do a very job packing and I had some broken items from the way they packed. I have 4 or 5 boxes that had bright yellow labels that said to open first because they were things I needed the first day. They put them in the back of the garage underneath everything else. In fact one of the boxes was the last one I found when I was unpacking. They were not very attentive with the boxes when they were unloading. They were nice about the furniture and they helped me rearrange it. I gave them a big tip but once I started to unpack I started seeing things. The quote for the move was accurate but they didn't quote me accurately for 3 months of storage. I paid $2,000 more than I thought. They did a good job getting here on time and nothing was missing. They were responsive to every question until after they dropped off the furniture. It took 3 or 4 phone calls to get a receipt. I did an online review and nobody ever followed up with me. They seemed professional. I am undecided on whether I would use them again. They damaged my bed and the guy said to just put some black shoe polish on it.
Description of Work: We used Wheaton Van Lines/Desert Sun Moving to pack, store, move and unload our stuff. They packed about 50% of it.

Sloppy, poor, unprofessional and just plain bad service. I would never use Wheaton or Desert Sun again.
Description of Work: Desert Sun was the local Wheaton Van Line unloading and unpacking agent used when we moved to Phoenix. We have moved multiple times, so I know what to expect movers to do. Never has a group of movers treated our belongings so poorly, and left us with a bigger mess than we thought possible. When you have multiple people working in your home, it is impossible to supervise all of them. We had contracted for them (with a Wheaton Agent in another city) to pack, store and unpack our belongings. Some of the belongings we packed ourselves, so they would not unpack those (we knew that in advance). What we did not realize was the way that they were going to hide boxes of stuff we needed (that they packed) in the stacks of boxes we packed, so they would not have to unpack them. They created such a mess in our garage of boxes, that it took us almost an entire day after they left to just sort through the mess they made. I would never use them again - we gave specific instructions, that were ignored. A very unprofessional company.

Desert Sun is an agent of Wheaton World Wide Moving. The last time I used a Wheaton affiliate I received excellent service. But this move was the absolute worst of my life. I have never suffered so much damage or had more of my express instructions disregarded. The packers by far were the worst performers. (1) They missed many items as I discovered after they reported that they were finished. In room after room, I opened cabinets and drawers to find that items near the back had not been packed. (2) Initially they did not pack three wire mesh trash cans because, they claimed, the truck crews like to use small trash cans as fillers to top off piles near the roof on the truck. Only after I pointed out that these cans were made of easily crushed thin wire mesh and insisted that they be packed did they relent. (3) They folded large paperback books in half to use as space fillers inside boxes, thereby permanently creasing the covers. (4) They failed to box a vinyl office chair mat. Naturally, the mat folded over in the heat of the truck and required an entire day in the sun at destination in order to flatten out. (5) Although they marked most of the boxes, as I requested, with a general description of the contents and the room from which the contents came, they failed to cross out the old writing on the boxes, which caused much confusion and delay at destination. (6) Many of the boxes and items retained the numbered inventory stickers from the move three months earlier. Instead of removing the old stickers or pasting the new ones on top of the old ones, they simply attached the new stickers at different places. Since the sticker colors mostly matched, each of those boxes had two stickers with different numbers, and the destination crew and I had the devil of a time with the inventory sheets at destination, resulting in even more confusion and delay. (7) Miscellaneous packing mistakes included packing boxed light bulbs next to a sharp pointed desk lamp hinge which pierced the box and broke the bulbs, and stuffing a small desk fan into a box with seat cushions that broke the plastic fan blades. The origin truck crew did a masterful job of fitting my property into every square inch of the front truck section. Unfortunately, far too many items were damaged in that effort. Most prominent was a tall dresser cabinet, only three months old, that either was dropped on its four legs or was subject to too much weight from items above it. The support legs collapsed, destroying the cabinet. Also broken was a leg glide on a director?s chair, which I did not discover until I pulled the chair, with a steel screw stump at the end of one leg, across the hardwood floor of my new apartment, damaging the floor in the process. Finally, many items of wood or particle board furniture arrived with dings and abrasion at the corners. While still functional, the formerly intact corners now look banged up and used. The destination truck crew did an adequate job under the circumstances. The crew chief, however, was excessively concerned with not being blamed for all the damage that was appearing as items were offloaded. Over and over he stated, ?I just want you to note that this wasn?t my fault.? This blatant posterior protection may not have constituted poor performance, but it was annoying and unseemly. I had used Wheaton affiliates three months previously when moving from San Diego to Phoenix. They did a terrific job that time. Not this time. That time, I received many calls from the local affiliate and the Wheaton home office confirming the instructions and asking whether everything was OK. They also called afterward and asked if I was satisfied with their service. Interestingly, this time I have not heard a peep either from the local affiliate or the corporate office. Maybe they know what they would hear if they called.
Description of Work: Packed my household goods at my Phoenix house. Loaded them onto their truck. Transported them to Burbank CA. Unloaded the goods into my new apartment.
