Chip Off The Old Block

My experience with Chips Tree Service was horrible! After waiting over three weeks for them to complete the project, they cancelled the service! I am left with an ugly front yard with clumps of dead grass and dirt. Their customer service is unacceptable, cancelling appointments at the last minute, promising installation dates and then moving them and when I told them I was angry at the latest appointment cancellation (for a supervisor to meet me and look at the yard), they cancelled the contract! I did not threaten them or use inappropriate language. I will NEVER recommend them for any service.

Extremely professional! I am impressed and satisfied with the services I received. I did not feel pressured to upgrade anything I did not want, and I showed them my own yard design which they enhanced and made even better.

I was very impressed. Umberto and his team did such a great job. I was nervous about having a large palm tree removed. But they were so quick and professional. Thank you Umberto!!!!

The entire process went very smoothly! The entire company, from Brianna scheduling to Mitchell for the visit, the entire visit was professional and thorough. They were punctual when arriving for the service that took place over three visits. Christian and Ralph were amazing in planting our saguaro. Rolando and Carlos were great at grinding a stump from an old tree they removed. They also left me treatments for both my Ficus tree and a Citrus tree that the previous owner left in bad shape.

Romero and his crew did outstanding work. Ralphie and the guys were very nice and professional. They took about 35 minutes to do both trees, cleaned up leaves and twigs and left the yard looking great. I will definitely hire them to do this work next year when it's needed.

They called me and set up appointment to see my property. The day before the visit, they called and asked if they could send their arborist a day later instead. I agreed. On the day before the arborist verified time of arrival via text . I never saw or heard from him or his pathetic company again. I did reach out to both but neither replied. Thinking there are better businesses out there

We have used this service for many years at 3 different properties. This time we were told that their minimum tree service was $650. We only have one tree at the address that required work. $650 was twice what we had paid for this service in the past. I guess we will look for a new service for this address.

Jack Hurndon, estimator, quoted us for services on Monday. He answered all our questions/concerns. He was excellent. Monday afternoon appointments for trimming and soil injection were made for the next day. Tuesday all services were done in a professional manner. Kelly, bio feed specialist was very informative regarding the important of after service care. Moses was excellent as a trimmer and his team worked together to assist him. They cleaned up the yard and made sure the street/yard was in the same condition they found it. I was very impressed with the Chip Off The Old Block team. Plan on using them again next year.

I called and we scheduled someone to come out for an estimate. 2 days after they were supposed to have been here, I called to inquire about whether they had come and whether I'd be getting a quote. They said they would look into it and get back to me. I never heard back from them, and it h as been almost 3 weeks now. I hired another tree service. I have done business with them in years past and things always went smoothly, they did good work. I don't know what happened. I would not recommend them any more.

This was a multi-faceted job. Two large trees in front yard, a mesquite and a palo verde, needed trimming beyond a ladder's reach. The crew leader Diaz climbed the trees with safety ropes and harness to reach and thin the two trees. He also lightened at least one third of the weight of a tree in the rear yard, leaving the portions needed to maintain privacy. Arborist Jack then visited my property in order to design a support for that tree to preclude the likelihood of it falling and damaging pool equipment and the house, which was subsequently installed by a specialist technician. Good job in all respects.

Very well--they were polite, punctual, thorough and neat. This company is our go-to for tree care in Cave Creek.

We had previously used their service last year and were satisfied at that time. We decided to use them again this year after monsoons caused some damage to some of our trees and shrubs this summer. We contacted them and made an appointment to have them come out and give us an estimate. We set up a date and time frame. I worked the night shift before so I made a point of staying up and waiting for their arrival. Once the time frame had passed, I called. I was told that "the girl" in the office tried to call me to reschedule but it was a wrong number. I confirmed that they did indeed have my correct number. Why "the girl" didn't try to redial is beyond me. I guess she was too busy texting her BFFs and posting selfies to Instagram, but I digress. I spoke with the manager who apologized for the oversight and assured me that he would come out personally to take a look at the work we needed to have done. He also offered a discount on the work. He did stop by a few days later while we were at work and left me a message to say that he had prepared an estimate for the work. I called him back and left a message. He then left me a message again. I returned his call and left messages several more times. To this day (more than two months later) I have yet to receive a call from the manager. After the last attempt, we hired another service and received prompt, courteous and professional service, unlike Chip Off the Old Block. Needless to say, we will never use them for any tree services in the future.

Texas Ebony = A+ for entire job (front yard). Ended up with a couple of broken ornaments (for scaring birds away) but other than that their skill and bravery for even climbing inside this super thorny tree was very good. I don’t know a lot about tree pruning and was a little worried about how it looked like a big hole/space in the middle of the tree when they were done. But it has filled nicely since. Chinese Elm (back yard) = B+. This tree was originally pruned by my regular landscapers, not expert arborists like Chip Off Old Block, so it was a little weird looking in the first place: Lop-sided - partially due to my backyard neighbors’ oleander which fights for territory with it; few branches in the center. This outfit couldn’t make branches appear where there weren’t any of course, but it REALLY looked bare in the center when they were done. I’m not sure about this process of clearing off the inside of each branch (closest to the trunk) and leaving a lot of leaves and smaller branches at the end of each large branch. It seemes to me that makes it heavy on the ends. But I figured they knew what they were doing. (Plus, the front yard tree filled in well.) I also figured they did it that way so wind could pass through easier or something. But last week (before the big storm yesterday and today) there was some wind gusts in my neighborhood and a big branch did, in fact, break and fall. I texted my contact with the company, sent pics and my questions about the process (just need to be educated I guess), but haven’t had a response. We also had a lemon tree taken out due to disease. Originally they said it would be removed, roots, ball and all. They worked two different days on it but could not get the root ball out. I have to say, this crew did not clean up on this project as well as the others on the other projects. They were recommended by my landscape contractor and overall, I was satisfied. I’d use them again and would recommend them.

This was the second time I've used Chip Off the Old Block to trim up my front yard tree. The tree was trimmed, and all the cuttings were chipped and the area under the tree was cleaned up.

Queen palms were adequately trimmed. Jacarandas in our front yard were not shaped the way we had wanted. We were most unhappy about the fact that a number of roof tiles were broken, probably by palm fronds being allowed to drop on them, and we were not notified about this. Yard was left in a bit of a mess with broken roof tiles on the ground which we discovered much later.

They badly damaged some tiles on my roof by allowing palm fronds to fall onto the roof. They did not bring the damage to our attention, and I only noticed later. Tree trimming was OK.

Wonderful....I will hire them again if and when tree service is required. My next door neighbors hired them after seeing their completed word and of course, my recommendation. I had estimates from at least 5 other companies; their price was the best of all the others. The men who started and completed the work were extremely courteous and industrious.

I think they could have trimmed more of the palms off the top of the tree than they did. The way the arborist came out to give me the estimate and I spoke there should have been more gone off the top. There really wasn’t anything to be punctual about.
