Chip Off The Old Block

I made an appointment with Conrad and he was on time. He was very attentive to what I needed done and as soon as he gave me the estimate, I knew I wanted to let him do this job. On the day of the project the first wave of workers came in and felled all the trees and cleaned up the mess on our lot. Shortly after, the stump grinding crew showed up and finished up the job.This entire crew worked quickly and efficiently and I would use this company again.

They don't always follow very specific instructions.

Great service! They came out to give me an estimate the day after I called. The prices were a little for some of the trees, and we decided it was only within our budget at this time to get one of our trees trimmed that was priced at $100. Called back and they were able to come by the following day. I wasn't home and there was a miscommunication between the crew, and they ended up doing all of the work on the invoice despite my request to trim only one tree. I got a call that all the work had been done, but I would only be charged the $100 that I had authorized. Can't beat that! :) Thanks guys, you have my business in the future!

I was very pleased with the professionalism and the integrity of the work that they did. After my estimate at the house the crews were out the next day to complete the work. They did a great job crowning, cleaning and shaping the trees. I will use them again.

This was the second time I used them in a couple years. I was very disappointed with the actual workmanship . Didn't clean up, large branches were dropped in neighbors yard- with nothing said to me, nor any attempt to retrieve them. That was really awful- neighbors not happy about the mess!! Price is mid to upper level, but they don't deliver for the price

This is the first time I have used Chip off the Old Block. I called 8/26, Jack came out to do the estimate 8/27, and Benny and his crew arrived early 8/28. As requested, I received a notification call ahead of time for both 8/27 and 8/28 visits. The crew set up, did the job, cleaned up and were on their way in less than 90 minutes. Everyone involved from start to finish was professional, courteous and friendly. The price was fair, neither the lowest I have paid nor the highest. Over the past 20 years I have had these trees trimmed a half-dozen times by various companies. These folks were the best by far.

We called on Sat, Conrad came by as scheduled on Monday for an estimate, his work crew arrived Tuesday (on time!) and performed the work quickly, correctly, and professionalism. Very easy to work with and we would certainly recommend for others to use.

I had a tree that died during the summer and another that was not doing well. Pete came out yesterday and diagnosed what happened and what to do. I will say his explanations were probably way more detailed than what I needed, but he was friendly and quite knowledgeable. The crews got there this morning and had completely removed our 40 year old mulberry tree and had the debris removed in less than an hour. They then went to town dead-wooding the 45 plus year old olive tree. The crews were extremely fast and efficient. The stump grinder came a bit later in the afternoon. We tried to get there before the various crews left, but boy, they left before we got there. I had no idea of what to expect regarding cost until the arborist gave me the estimate. I was expecting much more, so I was very pleased! Excellent service.

I called with a concern about my Sumac that lost all its leaves and looked almost dead. They were able to send Pete out the very next day. Pete was very knowledgeable and took the time to teach me about my trees. He also gave me hope that they might be able to save the Sumac. Its a beautiful tree and I hate to lose it. He inspected it and explained all the issues that were causing the problems, gave me instructions on how to care for it to give it the best chance for survival. He also examined my mulberry which to an untrained eye looks healthy but he showed me fungus and signs of deficiencies. He suggested treatment for both and we scheduled it for the next day. Noe came out to deep feed and treat for pests the next morning and did a wonderful job. He explained what he was doing and that I didn't need to worry about my dogs near the area since it was all organic which eased my mind. Both Pete and Noe were extremely professional, explained everything in detail and were a pleasure to deal with. They both had wonderful personalities and cared as much about my trees as I do. These guys were AWESOME and I will never let anyone else touch my trees !! FYI..... use your own common sense when dealing with companies......I had another company that was going to try to save my Sumac and his #1 priority to help it was to trim it. Feeding it was #3!!! I knew that couldn't be right so I called Chip off The Old Block. Unknowing what the other company suggested Pete told me we needed to get it fed and treated first. At that point I knew I had the right company!!! Thanks to both Pete and Noe you guys are the best!!!

Able to bid, book and complete service in 24 hours. The only thing that kept me from rating an A was because the cleanup. They got everything in the yard, but a perfect crew would have swept the pool deck where some of the dirt/debris was. I would recommend.

The company sent three tree trimmer to the job. The trimmers met and exceeded our expectations, they did an excellent job and we will definitely use "Chip off the old block "in the future.

.The crew worked efficiently and tirelessly in extreme heat to get the job done. I asked them to be super careful about getting palm fronds, seeds and debris in my pool. Although that was hard to do since the pool and spa are adjacent to the pool, they promised to blow the debris to one side of the pool and skim the pool to remove it once they were done. They did this and also did a great job of cleaning up the monumental amount of debris from all of their work. Overall, a very good experience and I would definitely use this provider again.

A large branch had broken off our orange tree during a storm. It was the only branch left on the old tree still producing fruit, so the tree had to be removed. Nick came out within a day or so with an estimate and we talked about also removing another old orange tree that would probably have to be removed soon. Nick also told me about some service I could receive for the two remaining trees (fertilizing and thinning). I received a very competitive price for removing both trees, so decided to go with that. Tree removal went quick and the clean up was great. Within a few days they came to remove the stumps. Great service! Will use again later in the year when it comes time to fertilize and thin the trees.

This was a very large residential project. They trim over 30 large trees in one day. Some of the trees were very, very large and filled with 1-1 1/2 inch long thorns. My experience start to finish was excellent. When I called for an appointment, Conrad met with me within a couple of days on a Saturday. Conrad gave me a very detailed list of what he thought needed to be done with different options on some of the trees. The work was completed the following week. I had 2 full crews at my property and 2 others were sent to make sure the job was done in one day and that everything was hauled away. Chip Off the Old Block was not the cheapest trimmers I have used but their trimmers were the best. They trim and thinned the whole tree instead of just chopping off a branch and not address the rest of the branches on the tree. My trees look great and everything was cleaned up that same day. Conrad arrived with the crews early in the morning and came back at the end of the day to make sure I was happy with everything that was done and I was.

Chip Off the Old Block came to my emergency situation. We had scheduled a full tree trim for July 8 but a large tree branch broke and fell in between that time. They rushed to my help and got the tree trimmed on June 29th. Pete was excellent in his ability to help me very quickly.

This eucalyptus tree was enormous, tall and had a trunk apprx 7-8 ft in diameter. It was also close to our home and our neighbor's home. The crew arrived early, got right to work, climbed the tree and cut it down as they went! You've got to see these guys, they're amazing!! Not only was their price less than half of the other services we contacted, but they worked their tails off, cleaned the place up beautifully and left the property looking perfect. I would recommend if you need work done, call these guys - you will hopefully be as pleasantly surprised as I was at the excellent quality of work for the price charged.

The arborist came out a week before to review the work and provide me the cost estimate. He was great to talk to and happy to answer any questions I had. The crew was on time and professional. They worked h****** getting the three mesquite trees trimmed back. The clean up they did was great! Some of my neighbors commented to me on the great job they did. Yes, I will hire them again.

At first, the bolt that was used was too small and they returned a few days later to replace it. They did a great job trimming the trees and cleaned up afterwards. I was very satisfied.

Work went very smoothly. They were flexible in terms of scheduling and arrived punctually. The first crew cut down and removed the tree, and then an hour or two later a worker came to grind the stump. All debris was removed. Overall were very professional. Would certainly use them again, at least for a straightforward job like this one.

For the estimate, Jack arrived during the agreed upon window to perform the estimate. As we walked the property, he sized the job up quickly and wrote up the estimate as we discussed the work. He provided a reasonably detailed written estimate, and offered to schedule the job very soon. Two crews (7 men) arrived at about 7:30AM. Jack showed up to go over the work with them. They brought big two shredders and waste trucks. Jack made sure they understood the scope of the work, and then departed. I imagine that most of the work was routine, but given the size of the job, I was a bit anxious to make sure that there were no misunderstandings. I need not have been concerned. The 3 big pines were more than half of the job. For each tree, one man climbed to the peak, went out on each limb, and removed all the dead wood and small branches. Many large lower limbs, up to 8? were removed, opening up the area under the tree. Many of these limbs extended over neighbors? yards, and their yards were left very clean. The end result ? the pines now are very attractive - looking open and spacious, and they add an attractive architectural element to our landscape. The other trees all had significant dead wood, and were somewhat gangly. The crews thinned them out and shaped them, raised the skirts significantly, and raised them off the roof. Queen palms were trimmed of dead fronds and lower live ones. Cleanup was thorough. The roof was blown off, all walks blown clean, neighbors? yards left clean. One shredder truck was just about completely full of shredded limbs, and the other shredder truck was partially filled with pine needles and waste from the blowers. This was a big job and very competently performed.

Arborist showed up for the initial estimate about a week prior, but he was not present for any of the work. The estimate was a little higher (about $100 more; hence the B for price) than my usual landscapers, but because of the great reviews and the allure of certified arborists, I wanted to give Chip Off the Old Block a shot. Be sure that you get a very detailed description of the work to be performed. I asked for a pile of brush to be removed and a full blow-out/raking of the yard when I received the estimate. He wrote down 'remove debris' and said clean-up was standard, but the crew was not prepared to do either until I explained the situation to them. Crew of three was very friendly and pretty quick for how much they removed from the trees - a little less than three hours (that's nine man hours at $100 per hour which seems a little pricey, hence the B for price). As far as tree trimming goes, the results are very similar to those I've received from other companies, so I am not sure that I would necessarily use Chip Off the Old Block again. Clean-up afterwards was mediocre (hence the B for quality). I'll probably have to blow my yard again in the next couple days, and the pool is pretty messy (which is understandable, but other landscapers go the extra mile to clean out the pool too). Overall good work at an OK price; however, I would say that there was no "WOW" factor.

It went very well. They do a really good job. I like them a lot. Its a good price for the service they perform. They are busy so they are never here as quickly as I'd like them to be.

At the time the estimate was given, I stressed that I did not want the tree to be "butchered". The Arborist and I SPECIFICALLY discussed the two huge bottom branches and I said that I only wanted the very bottom ONE removed and the rest to be thinned out. He agreed. So, I was horrified to arrive home (just as they were ready to drive away) to see that they had indeed butchered the tree and BOTH of the large bottom branches were gone. By all means, use this company if you don't want them to listen to your instructions! The tree looked better before it was cut. Very disappointing. 5/7 Update - Appreciated that the company tried to rectify the situation. Unfortunately, we cannot glue the branches back on.

The certified arborist, Jack Herdon, arrived at our house at appointed time and was very helpful in answering all of our questions and making some helpful suggestions for the care of our plants and as to which of the services would be most cost effective for us. he was in no hurry and answered all our questions. As an aside I would suggest to potential user of their services (or any arborist) that you make a list of any questions you have about your larger plants so that the arborist can answer them for you while you have him/her at your house. I don't know about any other tree service company but for Chip Off the Old Block, the estimate is the only time I was able to interact with the arborist. This is not a criticism, just wanted to let you know when best to pick the brain of an expert in the field. Although Jack indicated that the work could be scheduled earlier we opted to scheduled for the following week so I could be there. On the scheduled day 3 different crews arrived to perform the work: a 3 or 4 man crew to trim and thin the tree crowns; a 2 man crew to dig up the Yucca stump; and one man with a power pump and tank loaded on a pickup truck to infuse their just prepared (from compost soaking) fertilizer into the ground around the trees to be fertilized. This last person also drove fertilizer stakes around the fertilized trees. All work was performed in a timely and professional manner and the trimming crew chipped up all the cuttings and hauled them away. The other 2 crews cleaned up after their work as well. I'm very happy with the work performed and feel the price was fair for the work performed.

Outstanding, Donte, the person who gave me estimate was obviously well educated and knowledgeable. Crew of 3 showed up 3 days later, did a fantastic job!!!
