Description of Work: We would never use this company again! They trimmed our palm trees before the trees had started getting the shoots which eventually blossom and produce nasty black seeds. Even though I questioned the owner of Chip Off The Old Block about whether it was too early to trim the trees, he said it was actually the best time to trim our very tall palm trees. In fact, he wanted to trim the trees the next day. About 2 weeks after the palm trees had been trimmed, we noticed that they were now producing the problem shoots which occur every summer. Everyone who owns these type of tall palm trees knows that it is best to wait until these shoots form before trimming the palm trees. Within a short amount of time these shoots produce a type of a blossom which falls into swimming pools, etc creating a continual mess. If the shoots remain on the trees after the blossoming stage, they produce little black seeds which really cause a cleanup problem. to make matters worse, if the seeds are left on a pool deck or in the swimming pool for any length of time, they will stain the concrete or decking. Because we had been misled about when our trees should have been trimmed, my husband called the office of Chip Off The Old Block to complain. We felt that they should come back and cut off the shoots. After leaving several messages for the owner, my husband finally was able toi speak with two separate people at the office. The bottom line is that they refused to stand behind their work. I just regret that we were not members of Angies List at the time of our problems with this company. I also regret not having checked with the BBB before hiring them. Just recently I checked their BBB rating and they have an "F" rating!

 + -1 moreThey came on time and I told them all of the bushes and the tree I wanted removed. I have a fire pit so they agreed to cut the tree up into lengths and stack it for me in the backyard by my fire pit. They were here about 3 hours and when they were done, they rang the door bell and asked me to look things over. I went out and asked if they had cut any drips and they looked a bit surprised. I went and turned on my drip system and nothing became evident that was leaking. After I paid them and they left, I went out a couple of weeks later and saw that 4 of the bushes they had "removed" were growing back with a vengeance. I called the company and talked to a manager and within 2 days, they had a crew back out to dig a lot deeper and get those root balls out so we will see where we go from here. It is a difficult bush to get rid of so I suspect I may have to end up pouring some gas down the hole.
Description of Work: I had several bushes and a tree removed. Their quote was half the other 2 quotes I had so I went with them. Now mind you, they are not arborists but I didn't need that. I just needed someone to remove some bushes and trees. One thing to remember is to tell them to watch out for your drip lines. I didn't want them hacking them off with the root ball and water going everywhere. Also, be sure to tell them if you have any buried cables, etc.

Description of Work: Jack came out within a day or two of our inquiry to give an estimate on the work. He was very polite and professional. Jack took the time to look at all the current priorities as well as discuss future projects. He was punctual and efficient. Because of his professionalism, it was easy to set up the agreement and service date. Service was provided to remove two trees and shape up another. This was completed within two days of estimate. The company left the site spotless and the work was done beautifully. I will be using them again.

 + -1 moreThe estimator was punctual, but was definitely a salesman not an arborist. He suggested deep fertilization for the plants in the yard, which I greed was necessary. I also wanted a palm stump ground. Everything was done on time and for the estimated cost. However, there are health issues with my trees so I'll have to call an arborist to look at them and diagnose the problem.
Description of Work: Grind palm tree stump and suggest ways to improve health of trees.

 + -1 moreThe quality of the work was very nice, with some reminders/direction from me, and he does most of it personally, which I like. The clean-up was really excellent. His price was high even for the volume of work, I have since been told by two informed people, but that's my fault for not shopping around or bargaining harder. I wanted the medium to large wood saved for firewood, and figured I was paying a bit extra for that, but I still had to nag about it repeatedly. He's a pleasant guy, and he knows trees, but I'll look for a more reasonable price for any future tree upkeep.
Description of Work: I had quite a number of large and small trees removed prior to a remodel of house and yard, and several very large trees had to be properly pruned top to bottom, and fed.

 + -1 moreChip Off the Old Block is the former Al's Tree Care and continues the excellent service of that company. I had two mesquite trees which had fallen down removed by the former Al's. Chip Off the Old Block did an excellent job of removing the palm tree, a fan palm about 25 feet tall next to my pool. It was an awkward location, but they took care of it in three hours and returned the next day to grind down the stump. I am very happy with the quality of the work done.

The estimator showed up within the stated time frame, he seemed very knowledgeable about tree trimming, and he gave me an estimate that was significantly lower than quotes I had received from two other companies. The service was completed the next day between 7:00 AM and noon. The tree trimmers did their job with minimal disturbance to me, they cleaned up thoroughly after themselves, and the trees look great. I was initially somewhat shocked at how much they trimmed, but my trees look much healthier now, and I am very pleased with the service overall.
Description of Work: The company trimmed two mesquite trees and removed all branches from my property, including two piles of branches that had previously been trimmed by me and my landscapers.
