They did a great job with the work. They were very friendly and were able to come for an estimate the very next day after I called. They arrived at the time they said they would and then came back to do the work the next day as promised. I had received a flyer in the mail offering a small discount and they honored it. They did an excellent job of cleaning up and left my yard looking great. The trees had not been thinned in 7 years and were way too big for me to deal with on my own. After Chip Off the Old Block groomed them they looked great. The only issue I had, and this is small, is that when they called the next day to take my credit card payment over the phone (no, they did not make me pay anything up front), the person never asked if I was happy with the work. She was not unfriendly, but got right to the point, saying she was calling to collect payment. I was a little taken aback as I had expected to be asked if everything was okay and if I was satisfied, but she never asked me one thing about how I felt about the service. That would be one thing I would recommend for this company---follow up to make sure your customer is happy.

Really did a fantastic job at a great price. Arrived on time and completed the job in a couple hours. Cleaned up the area very well afterwords. Would highly recommend them based on my experience.

I contacted the company by email on Wednesday and had an emailed response within an hour, and someone came for a 'drive by' quote within a couple of hours. The quote was reasonable and I was told that the tree could be removed on Saturday. Today the tree was removed and the stump ground down. You can't even tell where the tree was any more. Really excellent service and communication and I feel that the price was very fair. I would certainly call them again if I needed any other tree work.

Excellent! These two trees were huge. They reduced the volume, removed dead wood, and thinned them out. The trees look great and they cleaned up all the debris and left everything looking awesome.

They came, they quoted, they returned in two hours, they completed the work in about 4 hours. As requested and as quoted.

The removal team was quick and efficient. They took down the tree without any damage to my house. The stump grinding team was also prompt, but could have done a bit more cleanup. Overall, I was very satisfied and would use them again.

They were very prompt at getting the work done when they said they would do it. It was done in a timely matter and it was done as described in the estimate. They kept their word on the price. It was well done, they were prompt, they were professional. I would use them again.

Look no further in my opinion. I am totally satisfied and pleased. Jack came out - same day of my call BTW, to address my concerns with a large dead tree and some other large overgrown trees and palms. I've been in the same home for 26 years and the trees really needed attention. Jack was very knowledgeable, a Certified Arborist, very kind and has been with the company, of which he loves working, for several years. I did not feel rushed or pressured to make a decision. The work was done the following day. The work men showed up early, four of them, they were very pleasant and worked very hard. When they left several hours later, everything that I wanted done was done, and better and the grounds were left all cleaned up. Its a good company, and very well represented by Jack W. Herndon. BTW, I initially called three companies, the two other companies prices were in the ball park, but I just felt better with Chip off the Old Block, there's something about Jack (LOL.) FYI, I understand that the company was founded and is run by one of our own U.S.A. Patriot, a Vietnam Veteran - and I personally like to be able to support them to give a little thanks! I highly recommend giving these people a call!

The arborist responded promptly to our weekend phone call and setup a site visit for Monday. He had a professional demeanor and appearance and was cordial. He initially wanted to set up the trimming for the late morning, but was able to accomodate our schedule so our dogs wouldn't have to be locked up all day. His team came out Tuesday and performed the work as promised. This consisted of crown thinning of 2 eucalyptus trees of approximately 50 feet and thinning and shaping of a cat-claw acacia of approximately 15 ft. Clean up was excellent. Although the arborist himself was not present for the actual trimming, he assured us no one on his team had fewer than 2 years experience, and they would follow his directions. This seems to have been the case, as one of the workers had done this work for us 3 years ago when he worked for a now defunct tree trimmer. We presented our Angie's list coupon just prior to signing the estimate, which was honored without any hassle. Although tree trimming seems pricey overall, the price quoted was in line with other trimmers and it is a hazardous job for the workers. We were pleased with the process from start to finish, and will use and recommend Chip off the Old Block again.

All work was performed as detailed in the estimate on schedule, with no additions or deletions from the estimate. All work done was paid for upon completion with no money required up front. The workmen were through with only a short lunch break. The work crew checked in before starting and upon completion asked that we check their work and ask any questions that we had with how the trees looked when they were done. We asked for some of the wood and that an additional limb be removed. They were happy to oblige.

We called this company as a result of being "stood up" by another one. Unfortunately, that other company is ALSO on Angie's List, which is a separate review. (Note - Check the companies that offer "coupons" on Angie's List for those reviews) As a result of the aforementioned situation, we quickly scoured Angie's List in hopes that someone might actually return phone calls. It seems that tree service companies in this area do not seem to believe in telecommunications. However, Chip Off the Old Block not only answered the listed phone number, but actually sent an estimator over that VERY afternoon. Since other companies seem to think this a novel concept, we were quite pleased. Unfortunately, the company is not open on Sundays, however we scheduled a Monday appointment. After we noted that She (the better half) works nights, the rep ensured that the crew would come by in the afternoon. Exactly at noon, the doorbell rang and a small crew of 6 workers was ready. By 1:30 pm, they were done with the major work and cleanup with only spot tiding up left. They left each area looking better than they were before they arrived.

Great experience. I had an estimate on Monday and they trimmed the palms that day and came back the next to do the stumps. The crew that showed up to do the palms were supposed to sculpt my Canary Island and all they did was trim it. I called the company and they sent them back the next day to complete the sculpting and they did a great job.

Contacted the company for an estimate to remove two large trees on a Saturday, and they went to the property the same day, and received an estimate within hours. Agreed to terms, and had a work date setup for the following Monday. Had two large bottle trees removed and stump grinding done. The one tree was quite close to the house, and was removed without any damage. They did an excellent job of cleaning up when finished.

I contacted Chip off the old Block for the annual trim of 6 palm trees, to remove excess growth and those nasty flowers that turn into a nightmare if not removed. The estimator showed up the same day I called them, and gave me a good price for the work to be done. I contacted them later that day to schedule it. They are prompt in answering their phones, and they showed up to do the work on schedule, as promised. I was impressed that they even showed after noon, and worked in the 110 degree heat to get it done! All work was performed professionally and they cleaned up my yard when finished so it looked like they never came, except the trees looked excellent! They even made sure they got the debris out of the pool. I'll be calling them again next time I need a tree trimming job.

They did exactly what was contracted for and did it when they said it would be done. All debris was removed, and the trees look great. I am a repeat customer of Chip of the Old Block. They consistently provide excellent service for a reasonable price. My only criticism this time, is that I was told that the estimator would be at the house between 11 am and 2 pm. He arrived at 1:56 p.m, but apologized because he had informed the dispatcher that he was running late, and expected that person to call and let me know.

I called for a quote for removal of a small Date Palm tree on the 22nd. Jack Herndon arrived at the promised time on the 23rd. He quoted the tree removal and mentioned the Mesquite tree size in the front yard, noted some branches were about to grow over roadway and may cause difficulty for refuse/recycle trucks, and correctly identified storm risks/tree health issues caused by excess tree weight. He quoted both the tree removal I called about and the tree trim he recommended. I wrote a check for both and the work was scheduled for the next day. I shared I would have our pup off property for the day and asked that the back yard be left in a safe condition for her return. They did everything they promised they would do when they promised they would do it for the price they contracted for. The back yard was in perfect condition for our dog, and no debris was left from either the back or front yard work. I plan on using them again.

Representative came out for estimate on time. They scheduled the service on the day we wanted, but they said they could not give us any time frame until the morning of the service. They called us early the morning of the service and gave us a time of "any time after 11:30." At about noon they called again and said that they would be here after 2:30. Then at about 12:30, they called us again and said they were on their way. When the crew arrived, instead of going to work on the job, the manager asked if they could take a quick lunch break. We said ok....a half hour later we noticed a couple of the workers sleeping up against the tree they were to be trimming, and we had to go out and ask that they please start the job. I don't consider a crew eating and sleeping in my front yard to be professional in any way whatsoever, considering that we live in a neighborhood with several parks nearby. They did complete the work as estimated, and the tree was trimmed exactly as we requested. The price was very reasonable as well. But, when our tree needs trimming again, we will be considering other options.

Contacted the office and scheduled an appointment for a quote the following day. Arrived on time and discussed work to be performed. Needed 3 trees removed and stumps ground down. The price was actually less than I was expecting so scheduled for the work to be done. I work from home so was flexible with when work to be completed. The workers came the next day in the late afternoon and removed front yard tree and asked if ok to come back next day to remove back yard trees. The next day morning the back yard trees were removed. The workers handling the grinding came separately and arrived in the afternoon and completed front yard tree, but needed to return following morning with a smaller grinder to finish back yard due to position of our pool and other landscaping. After each step, the work site was cleared of any loose debris and when grinding was finished, could not tell trees had been there. Extremely happy with the service - very professional.

We had a very large dead eucalyptus tree that needed to be removed. It was in a precarious position next to the house & a good distance from the street. When some companies declined to even provide an estimate, Chip Off The Old Block stepped up with a very competitive bid. They showed up on time, with a full crew & got the job done very quickly. They were professional & very skilled at their jobs. The climber was a pro- all the material was removed safely & hauled away. I could have not been more impressed with the work. There are a lot of fly-by-night companies out there...but don't waste your money. These guys know what they're doing!

The work on the tree was fantastic. This tree had not been trimmed in years and they took great care to trim it evenly and thoroughly. They removed dead wood, crossing branches, and three large limbs. A 25 ft-limb was hanging over my neighbor's roof and I was very nervous about having it taken down. They were very careful to remove it section by section using ropes to lower the pieces. They also had to work around a chicken coop and block wall fence. They worked efficiently and did a great job. The clean-up was well done. They removed all the debris from my roof, my neighbor's roof, and the surrounding area. My only issue was that I was told they would call and give me a timeframe for when they'd arrive. I didn't get a call and had to stay home all day waiting for them. Not a major issue, but it was inconvenient.

They showed up on time and did what they said they were going to do.
