+ -1 moreI did a thorough analysis of my electric bills and determined that I paid over $1350 extra as a result of those heat strips being turned on during that period. I sent the analysis to Chas Roberts and requested a re-imbursement of that amount. I followed up my request with occasional e-mails and voice messages to their warranty service people. They rarely returned the calls or e-mails. Once again, very frustrating. Three months later, one day after I threatened to file a complaint with the Registrar of Contractors, I finally got their decision. They said they would not offer any re-imbursement. They said I should expect to have a high electric bill since I have things like a swimming pool, refrigerator, computers, lighting and other devices plugged in. In essence, it looks like they think they have some magic heat strips that dont draw any power!
Description of Work: They installed my HVAC system in my new home. It was immediately apparent that the system was running 24x7, wasnt cooling the rooms and my electric bills were through the roof. It took a lot of work on my part to convince Chas that there was a problem. I had to keep asking their service people back to find a problem. They said the system was working as specified and nothing they could do about it. It was frustrating that I had to keep re-convincing them that there was a problem in order to get someone to come check out the system. Finally, three hot summer months later, they found the problem. Their installers had mistakenly wired the air handler such that the auxiliary heat strips were always on. So the chilled air was being heated by these strips as it was sent into the house. They re-wired it the right way and all of a sudden the rooms were cool, the system only ran periodically and my electric bills went down.

I have been complaining about a noise my system has been making and they haven't fixed it yet and they are telling me there is nothing to be alarmed about. They always try to sell me something when they come out and I don't really appreciate that. Now they are telling me I need a new compressor.

Chas Roberts performed an inspection on the house we just moved into and found that the overflow plan and the secondary overflow pan were both clogged and not draining. The overflow pan was less than 1/4 inch from overflowing. We would have had water all through the ceiling and then down into the carpet and everything. The tech spent 4 hours on that and other projects fixing everything.
Description of Work: We purchased a multi-year, seasonal service plan where they come out and inspect our A/C unit twice each year. The seasonal service call is at no additional charge.

+ -1 moreWe kept hearing this noise so we called this company, who originally did the work of installation in this home. When we bought this home we signed a service contract with them. The serviceman took a look at the a/c unit and told us we needed a new motor. We asked for like twenty four hours to discuss it and were told that we could not have that much time. So we got another opinion. We found out that what we were hearing was normal and that there was nothing wrong with the a/c unit or motor. The second opinion saved us about eight hundred dollars. The unit is still working great. We no longer have a service contract with this company. When this all took place, my husband called the company and asked to speak to the manager or have him call us back. To this day we have not heard from them. Even though they got to us fairly fast, we still had to wait almost a week, for the repair guy. I feel like we have had nothing but the runaround.
Description of Work: We were told that we needed a new motor on the ac unit.

+ -1 moreThere was a lot of labor involved and they did a very good job. My husband was in this field for 7 years and he is good at evaluating the company. They really impressed us. They have a good preventative maintenance program as well as a fast response. I would recommend them to everyone.
Description of Work: They replaced the A/C unit and re did the duct work in our 1800 square foot home. The totally reconfigured the duct work and ripped out old stuff as well.

+ -1 moreSave your time and money dealing with them. The builder finally hired another company to diagnose the problems since Chas Roberts could never fix anything. Once they determined what was wrong, Chas Roberts had to do the work, then the other company had to inspect everything afterwards to ensure it was done correctly. The returns were placed in the wrong parts of the house and the air ducts had been crushed in numerous places in the attic, therefore constricting air flow. I will absolutely NEVER buy another home where Chas Roberts has been the HVAC contractor. Their customer service people are rude and their repairmen need additional training so they can correctly fix problems.
Description of Work: They came out to repair my second level A/C unit. The part was $116.04 and labor was $125. This was approximately their 8th service call to my home since I purchased it four years ago (model home). I've had absolutely nothing but problems with them trying to get the A/C fixed in my home.

+ -1 moreSo far the final repair seems to be working. Even thought it took four calls, the repairmen and the scheduling office were very polite and responsive. They appeared to care about their work. The initial cost was lower than others. I checked with other companies and the cost appeared to be reasonable. Chas Roberts did not attempt to charge more upon their returns. They have stated that should the repair not be successful they will stand by their work for a year-parts and labor, and I have seen no evidence that this would not be the case. The fact that they did not get the diagnosis correct the first time is not near as important to me as their standing by their work.
Description of Work: The secondary condensate pan of my home air conditioner began dripping, indicating that there was overflow and a problem with the primary drain system. A Chas Robert technician responded in a timely manner and worked on the system cleaning out the primary drain line. After he left the rate of drip on the secondary line increased, so he was called back. He responded very quickly. He once again attempted repair spending a lot of time replacing the trap, etc. A few hours after he left the secondary was really flowing. I called the office and their supervisor Joe responded and sent a tech over. He performed a check and some repairs and left. A week later I returned from a business trip and noted the secondary still dripping. Chas Roberts was called and they responded very quickly. A new tech came out and said he had to level the primary pan as it was off angle causing the problem. So far the secondary line has not dripped, but the humidity and temp are down and the AC isn't running as much

+ -1 moreI had water coming down my ceiling and on my rug, but it wasnt their fault. It kind of irked me a little bit. Another person came out and said the drip pan was not lined up. With their primary overflow tube, the water comes from under the eave and just flows down the side of the house, instead of coming down and out a spout at the bottom of the house. That seems crazy to me.
Description of Work: I bought a contract off of them, and they come out and try to talk me into more and more items. They have some mechanism where it shuts off the air conditioning when water comes out, and they installed me a couple of those.

HE ALSO REPLACED THE AIR FILTERS AND IMPROVED THE DRAINAGE SYSTEM ON THE AIR HANDLER AND ON THE HEAT PUMPS AT NO ADDITIONAL CHARGE. HE KEPT US INFORMED AT EACH STEP OF THE PROCESS. CHAS ROBERTS CHARGES A BIT MORE THAN OTHER APS-QUALIFIED CONTRACTORS, BUT THEY DO A MORE THOROUGH JOB OF INSPECTING AND CLEANING THE UNITS.
