The quality of the product is exceptional. It not only serves its purpose well, but looks very nice. The gate is especially high quality. Overall, I was extremely impressed with the workmanship of the installation and the product itself; it exceeds expectations. The icing on the cake is that I paid about half the price of what I was quoted elsewhere with other highly-rated Angie's List companies. [Side note] Other companies were selling mesh as well as iron fences (the iron being the more cost effective of their options). I almost went with the iron fence before I had Backyard Pool and Safety, LLC come out to give me a quote, and I am SO glad I chose Backyard Pool and Safety instead. I know we would have hated the iron (the mesh looks nice and has so many benefits over the iron). Like I mentioned, not only was Backyard Pool and Safety less expensive (even more so than the other company's "cheapest" option; the iron) but the finished product exceeds expectations. Even guests who come over comment on how nice it looks and how functional the self-closing gate is. One last thing I will say, is that the owner is a real character (you'll either love him or hate him), but he does a darn good job! I highly recommend this company if you have any little ones (or even pets) you want protected from parts of your yard. We feel much more at ease now.
Description of Work: Estimate and installation of a barrier fence around our patio, to keep my little one safe from the pool and pond. This involved drilling small holes in cement and the installation of a custom-fitted mesh fence, with a self-locking gate.

I can not tell you how please I am with Art. I had called the company that had originally installed my mesh fencing at least 4 times to try and schedule the move and re-installation of my fencing at my new house. I finally gave up and found Art's ad on Craigslist. I called Art on a Wed and told him we were moving the next day. Art came over that same day, gave us an estimate and agreed to do the install the next day at 7am. True to his word, Art called the next morning to let me know he was starting work at the new house as I was dealing with movers at the old house. Art did an extremely thorough job and spent about 7-8 hours making sure the installation was perfect. He even included a few extra parts (no charge) that were needed as my old fencing wasn't a perfect fit. Art also had suggestions for the installation to make it look and work better than our original request. I never had any problem getting Art on the phone or returning phone calls. At the end of the job his price was exactly per the estimate even though he had to provide some additional parts. I will definitely use Art again and highly recommend him!
Description of Work: Art installed a mesh pool fence from my old house at my new house. This involved installing the fencing across my backyard from house to block fence. I had already purchased the fence and had it installed by another company, but Art had no problem re-installing this fencing at my new house.

12/6/2011: One of our dogs, who has cataracts and thus sight problems, accidently went out onto our pool cover. It was early in the morning and the pool cover was starting to fill with water, he was unable to move and if he had not been heard barking, would have drowned. We called Backyard & Pool Safety. The representative and installer, Arthur, came over and explained what needed to be done. He showed us samples of the fencing and gate and explained the safety fixtures. We agreed on a contract for installation to be completed 12/8/2011. He arrived on schedule 12/7/2011 and completed all work on time. Further, he cleaned all debris from cleaning plus debris that was there before he started. The fence looks good and is completely as described.

Overall I was very impressed. Artur, the dealer who I worked with, was very professional, and honest. Arthur also installed the fencing himself, and he finished the job fast. Thanks!
Description of Work: I had Backyard and Pool Safety build a barrier fence for me around my pool. I also had an area fenced off for my dogs.

Cliff notes: One of the worst, most unprofessional experiences with a contractor I have ever had. I found Art's ad on craigslist. He didn't have any reviews here but when I talked to him he seemed pretty knowledgeable and his price was pretty good. So we set up a time about a week later for him to come over and install the fence around my patio. He sent me an invoice via Paypal, and I paid half up front. The install was scheduled for a Wednesday. The Monday before, I sent him a text confirming that we're on for the Wed install. His response was "I'm on da road till bout 7pm i have an install i placed on the schedule pretty sure it was u if not then yes anyway... 7am" (that was how he talked over text message, like a teenager from new jersey) I confirm that will work and that I'll be out of town but my wife will be home. So Wednesday rolls around and he never shows up. I text him and leave him multiple messages throughout the day. He never responds to any of them. I leave another message Thursday, and actually am a little worried he's had an accident or something because he didn't seem like the kind of guy to just steal my deposit and disappear. I do some searching and it turns out he has a totally public personal facebook page. This was over the 4th of July weekend, and the whole time he is posting pictures of his wife in their pool, complaining about the 116 degree heat, etc. So I go ahead and file a complaint with Paypal to try and get my deposit back. Almost immediately after doing this, I FINALLY get a text message from him (5 days after he was supposed to install the fence) saying basically that he's really sorry he thought his office was going to call and tell me that my order was messed up and the wrong fence was delivered for me. Now, I don't for a second believe he has an 'office' staff working for him. His business is just him and his wife. So that's lie number 1. He also tells me that he's been out of town for 4 days in New Jersey. But like I said, it sure looks like he's been home based on what I see on his personal facebook page. So that's lie number 2. I then ask him how, regardless of what his 'office' was supposed to do, why he didn't responded to any of my repeated texts or voicemails to his personal phone. He tells me, and again I quote, "My wife has a habit of makin me give my phone over to her .. and like always at the airport she lets me have it to keep me busy" So his excuse for not getting back to me is that his wife took his phone away from him???? So anyway, that's lie number 3. He somewhat apologizes, offers me a $50 gift card, and says he will be over the following Wed at 7am and get it installed. I tell him if he gives me a $50 credit to my bill, and is there at 7am Wed he can do the job. He agrees. Tuesday night at about 10pm he sends me a text asking me "Am I still supposed to come over on Thursday to do the work even though you haven't canceled you claim against me on Paypal?" I respond and tell him that he's supposed to be coming Wednesday, not Thursday. At about 5am Wednesday I get a text from him saying that his wife (the "owner" of the company) won't let him come do the work if I don't cancel my claim on Paypal. He sends me a bunch of texts (I'm not awake yet) trying to coerce me into canceling the paypal claim, rules are rules no deposit no work, if you haven't released it in 30 minutes my wife is sending me to another job, etc. Finally when I wake up we have a bunch of back and forth where he says the miscommunication wasn't his fault and basically is totally unprofessional. I finally tell him that I'm leaving town at 1pm and if he doesn't have the fence done by then, I'm moving on. He shows up around 10am, and does a great job installing the fence. Normally this would be the bulk of an angie's list report, but the actual fence install was such a small part of the overall experience with him that this is all it gets. The fence is great, he did leave some garbage laying around but that's minor. (Oh, and I release my claim against him on Paypal immediately when he showed up at my house) So then all the work is done, and I get the bill from him for the final half of the job and there is no $50 credit. I complain, he tells me once I pay he'll send me a $50 gift card. I tell him I didn't agree to a gift card, I specifically said a credit to my bill. (I neither want a random gift card, nor do I trust him to send it anyway) We have a few days of back and forth about this where multiple times he threatens to come steal the fence from my house, tries to scare me that CPS is going to come over because we don't have a pool fence, etc. Literally the most unprofessional exchange I've ever had with anyone working for me. I mostly ignore him and tell him to just send me the correct bill and I'll pay it immediately. Finally he does and his last text is something to the effect of "this better be paid be 3am. And I'm going to ignore all future texts from you." LOL ok Art, please do. So I paid the bill and that's that. Please save yourself a headache and don't use this guy.

Response from Backyard And Pool Safety, LLC
Since the install, the member has had no reason to call us, nor has. The BIGGEST problem that this entire situation had, was pricing AFTER agreeing to let us provide the services. Install was completed, estimate conditions were to pay remaining balance at end of install, the member inspected the install, we left, and then MORE negotiations insued... basically HOLDING our funds till we negotiated a FURTHER discount ... AND if you'd like, REFERENCES CAN AND WILL BE PROVIDED that will show this is an EXTREME reaction to nothing more than a company not cow towing to an attempt to play with pricing prior, during and after .... we loved that we were able to protect the family and were chosen, but it was a very difficult situation as reflected by the marginal "good tones" to Mr. S's, post . the REFUNDING and or PAYPAL "issues" with refunds, cancelling of payments were all intiated by Mr. S. ... not by us... From the day we met, Mr. S. had an agenda that no matter the price from anyone, no matter how fair, he wanted to pay what HE thought was correct ... the estimate met his approval over others, so we were glad at that point... then when he notified us that we could have the job, he then "told us how much he would pay for the job" ... I tried as best i could to work with him and this hurdle he had, and i must have done well enough, since he did allow us to show up and install..... He then further propagated the situation by being difficult with final payment ... I'm sorry that he felt he had to go down that road, but still, WE are the company that he TRUSTED with the SAFETY of his family... THAT SPEAKS VOLUMES .... i don't think that, just because we did not play HARD BALL with him the way he liked, we deserve this diatribe ... again the member has had no communication with us since the final payment was made DAYS after required, but if needed, he and his product would be fully supported .....
