Affordable Home Maintenance is a one man company dedicated to giving customers personal service at an affordable price. My hourly rate is $40 with a service charge of $20. I am Better Business Bureau accredited with an A- rating. Cash and checks accepted.
He had to build a frame and wall-board over the door before installing the frame. He did an excellent job of matching the existing wall and you wouldn't know the door hasn't always been there. We fully recommend and plan to have Ron back for additional projects.
Description of Work: We had Ron install a door and door frame in a larger than normal opening into our den.

I contacted Affordable Home Maintenance to lay tile on am outside covered gazebo that we were re-doing. The owner, Ron, immediately answered the phone when I called. I explained to him what I wanted and he said that was something that he could do. We set a time and Ron came out to give me an estimate. He showed up on time and was very courteous. He quoted me a range price since he works by the hour. He did state that if it did take longer, his quote would stand and he would not charge us anymore. The only additional charges would be for supplies that I did not provide to him. I accepted his price and set up a day to start. Ron showed up on a Monday morning and began work. He told us that he would probably only work six hours in a single day due to working exclusively outside on my project and the summer heat was here. I told him that was not a problem. We were not in a rush for it to be completed. I did not know that the slab that Ron was laying the tile on was not square. (It was put in before I moved in.) Ron had to take numerous measurements and lay down new chalk lines so that the tile would come out looking straight. He made sure that there would not be a sliver of a tile anywhere on the slab. Ron worked many more hours on this project than he had expected to. I offered to pay more, but Ron said that the quote was what he was sticking to. Ron was very meticulous on his work. The way the tile has been laid out and cut, it was difficult to tell that the slab was not square. I would use Affordable Home Maintenance again for any work around my house.

Response was immediate and professional. Carlos arrived same day call for service was placed. Identified and explained problem with dryer. Replaced 2 rollers. Unfortunately, replacing only the back 2 rollers caused the dryer tub to lean forward and cause a squeaky noise. I left message with Affordable Care in the evening after hours and received a call back first thing the next morning. Carlos was on site the same day to identify problem and replace front 2 rollers at no additional cost.

Ron picked up the phone and after explaining to him that I am a property manager looking for handyman to do some maintenance jobs in the east valley. He told me he does not take job from referring company. That's fine with me, I am NOT a referring company. But he insisted i am a referring company and shouting at me not to call him ever again before hung up on me, What's an experience and how could he perform his job with such attitude and temper. Listening to your caller or client is the way to get your job done right. No prejudgement or discrimination!!!

We ended up not using them, but they were good. My husband mostly interacted with the owner, he just said he was like very personable. He gave us the right quote away. My landlord ended up going with somebody else but he worked with on other homes and we would have gone with this person. I would use him in the future.

I called Ron for some repairs to one of my doors that was damaged from a burglary. He arrived on time, assessed the damage to my door and made his recommendations for the repair. He explained his fees up front and asked for my approval before he did any work. I want to mention that he came to my home on very short notice, too. He did the work as described very proficiently. His hourly wage is pretty high, but he really seems to know what he is doing and cares about the finished product. He is also very polite and conscientious in cleaning up his work area when he is finished. I had him come out again less than a week later, because the burglars came back again and this time, they destroyed all Ron's previous hard work and destroyed not only the utility room door, but also my front doors. I went to Home Depot and bought a new door for my utility room and a security door and at Ron's recommendation. Ron installed both doors beautifully. I am very happy with his work. He may be a bit slower than some handymen, but he is very conscientious and thorough. I just wish his fees weren't so much, but I have learned that more often than not, you get what you pay for. Cheaper isn't always better. He took longer than expected, so he didn't charge me for the full time he worked, which was great. Ron will be coming back to install my new front doors when they come in from Home Depot, and I have every faith that he will do another great job......I can hope it wont' take as long, but as long as it's done right, that is the most important thing, right?
Description of Work: 10/03/2012 Repair of dead bolt and replace door casing in my utility room 10/08/2012 Removal of old door and older screen door; installation of new door, installation of new ldoor casings, locks and dead bolt and installation of a new security door on the utility room.
This was for a long distance landlord. I had a large list of projects after a tenant moved out and I had the good fortune of catching Ron in between projects. He called back and looked at the work and scheduled to come out and do the work. According to my property manager, Ron did a great job with the work. Until he retires I hope he will continue to be my home maintenance person.
Description of Work: He did a hardwood floor repair. He did electrical and sheetrock repairs. He did an adjustment to a kitchen sink. He did other general repairs as well.

Great job from start to finish! Ron is extrememely knowedgeable and talked us through each step, even taking time to stop work and explain each section of the work. He gives you the choice of providing materials for him, or he will get them for you at 20% over his cost. He was a joy to work with, and gave wonderful and helpful advice on how to lay down tile (I've never done it before!). He found an additional problem with a vent not properly attached to a duct below the floor, and fixed it at no additional cost. He also provided additional advice on other home improvements I could do myself (even though he said he wouldn't mind being hired to do it! -- Thank you, Ron). His finished work was fantastic. He is a true professional, and I would immediately recommend him to anyone.
Description of Work: Repair water damaged floor in upstairs bathroom due to leaking toilet and overflow water from shower, replace vinyl floor: Remove toilet to reuse, demo vinyl, demo sub floor, install new sub floor, install toilet, install new division strip (vinyl to carpet), install new vinyl tile, caulk new vinyl, reinstall toilet and caulk around it on floor.

Ron knows what he is doing, and did good work. He was punctual, careful and tidy. He is also a nice guy. The heat lamp job took longer than I expected (based on my own abilities and another bid), but this was compensated by Ron's realistic $40/ hour rate (as opposed to a mind-boggling $70/hour that another handyman wanted). The smaller drywall job seemed to go at a good pace, allowing for drying times. If you need a reliable solo handyman with carpentry and electrical skills consider Ron. My drywall job was not very demanding, but I got the impression that he is quite competent in this field.
Description of Work: Ron did two jobs: 1) replaced an existing bathroom fan with a combined fan/ heat lamp 2) repaired drywall in three small/medium locations, and touched up the drywall finish (orangepeel) in two tiny places. I am a retired engineer and could have done the fan/heat lamp job myself, but have reached the point where I don't want to do attic work.

Description of Work: I gave Ron a small "test" job (move a microwave oven) to see how things went. Everything was great and the price was reasonable. I gave him a glowing report. Then I called him out for an estimate to replace a kitchen window. The kitchen had two identical windows. About four years ago I replaced one of the windows. I replaced the window in five hours actual labor time. I now wanted to replace the second window exactly as I had done the first window. For health reasons I am no longer able to do the work. While Ron's bid did include replacing a small doggy door (about two hours labor), his bid at 26 hours labor was totally out of line. My perception is that he saw an elderly couple, with a SL500 Mercedes parked in the garage and a kitchen that would be appropriate in a million dollar home, and made the decision to gouge us. I am adding this second report for two reasons: I am offended that he appears to think that just because we are old and have a few dollars that we are stupid. And, because I am so disappointed. We have looked so long for a handyman for many repair and remodeling jobs that I am no longer able to do. We have a simple criteria: Show up when you say you will, do a professional job. "Good enough" is not good enough, leave no clean up, painting, finishing or trash removal that we have to take care of. And give me a fair price. Not the cheapest, but fair. I do not consider 26 hours labor that a DIYSER like me did in five hours a fair price .

Response from Affordable Home Maintenance
I am sorry Member feels the way he does but there are some facts that he does not mention. Also Member did not give me an opportunity to discuss this situation with him. My bid included redoing plumbing and removing electrical for instant hot water heater, demoing window plus 3 sheets siding and dog door, reframing window area and dog door, insulating the new framing and dog door, installing new siding and trim to match existing, installing new window and dog door plus painting new siding and trim in window and dog door area. Also included was trips to buy materials as well as cleanup and dump run. So in actuallity the job I bid on was not the same as what he supposedly did in 5 hours. I give a good days work at a fair price and stand by my work.

When I first called Ron (from Angie's List) I told him it did not need him to come out here for a estimate. Just do the job and if he met the criteria listed below I would use him for all future jobs: Professional quality work - "good enough" would not be acceptable. Not the cheapest price, but a fair price. No clean-up left after he was done and gone. Same workman every time, No employees or subs except for special applications. Show up on time, or at least call and reschedule in the event he just could not make it. He passed with flying colors in all areas.
Description of Work: I needed to move a built-in microwave that is large, heavy and had been improperly installed in the past. It was a bear of a job, both getting the microwave out then installing it in a new location. It took Ron over five hours and a bit of innovation to get the micro properly installed where I wanted it. This was steady work with no breaks or running for parts. And he had every kind of tool needed to get the job done. He also repaired the track on a kitchen cabinet drawer. Finally he did an excellent clean-up job when he was done.

AAA rating on Ron's services he did an excellant job and would hire again.
Description of Work: I had a long list of things to be done in my home. Ron came at 8 am and left around 5 pm the first day and 8 am to 1 pm another day. My list included replacing kitchen faucet, new deadbolt on security door, new outlet and box for a problem outlet, fixing a pocket door that had fallen of track, reattaching door on cabinet, putting up a new light fixture above kitchen table and painted part of ceiling with water damage, attaching a garden hose reel in front patio, fixing leaky outdoor water facet in back yard, checking for dishwasher leak and put in a new garbage disposal, measuring my computer room for new shelves, helped with light fixture in hallway, replacing old weather strips around front and back french doors, put in new toe kick under kitchen cabinet. Ron Coolidge was very promt each day arriving on time. Came in ready to work. I had most of the items purchased for the list but needed advise on some of my projects. He gave professional advice. He worked quickly and was very neat around my home. He had all the equipment he needed with him and helped me get some of my items at Home Improvment stores. I felt good to get all of my items done and done correctly. I had been putting off the repairs for months because I did not feel good with the service of other handymen service I had hired and was taken advantage of. A friend told me of Angie's List and I was so glad I used them to find Ron. He will be my first call for any problems around my home. I know he will be prompt and fair on his services. I highly recommend Ron for your home repair needs.

He's got a basic knowledge of everything. But he's also conscientious about other issues that might be visible. On the most recent job, he also noticed I had termites which could have caused a lot of damage had they gone unaddressed. He has been building houses for over 30 years. He does it all. He is a one man operation and his price point is unmatched and does the best work. I've referred Ron to others and I always get positive feedback about him. He does get busy from time to time, but if I have a serious issue he'll come over pretty quickly. I plan to use him as my go to guy for rental property maintenance.
Description of Work: Most recently, he helped me troubleshoot a moisture issue. We had to pull some drywall off and determined that the moisture was being caused by my sprinkler system spraying the wall directly. In addition to this job, in the past I've had Ron patch my roof, install beams to support my roof, install security lights around my house, and various other jobs.
