Description of Work: We bought the $99 for 3 hours deal. We had quite a bit of work that needed to be done and we figured we would see how they do before going further. The normal charge was $75 per hour. | |I have no doubt whatsoever that it's possible to find someone who can and will do the job just as well for less cost. But since I don't know who they are, I must use Angie's List. While A.L. dramatically increases my odds of getting quality work for my money, it's still no guarantee. Paying what I believe is a fair price is all the more I can do. | |When the owner came by to determine what needed to be done and to set up an appointment, my schedule did not have a lot of options. Since we were comfortable with the little bit of research I had done in addition to using Angie's list, we decided to just go ahead and just schedule a full 8 hour day of dry wall resurfacing and repair. | |So now it's 5 days after I painted all the repaired surfaces, and which was done 5 days after the repairs. We have not noticed any problems or aberrations of any kind and it all looks really good. | |My wife questioned whether $75 per hour for the 5 additional hours was the best we could do. Well number 1, part of the resurfacing that we needed done resulted from getting it done very cheaply the first time. Truly, we got what we paid for. | |Number 2, my way of determining whether we are overpaying is first, how much skill does it take. Second, whether the level of skill needed rises to the level of a profession. Third, if so, how much I would I need to make to support my family, pay taxes, contribute to a 401k, and pay the ridiculous cost of health care. In other words, how much would it take to do this as a profession and in which my family's well being depends upon my doing a professional job. | |Since I have an administrative job in a government, office, I have no real idea of what is a value here, but this is my best guess at "doing unto others" coupled with a sincere desire not to overpay either. | |BOTTOM LINE: With the $99 coupon, we paid $63 per hour for 8 hours of work which included installing almost 2 full sheets of drywall in one bedroom, redoing several small sections of drywall including water damage around the shower, and then a whole lot of resurfacing drywall in which the texturing was not done right from previous work. | |RG (Robert?) did a completely professional job of blending the texture and to our untrained eyes it almost appeared flawless. But as he pointed out, you simply cannot match new texture with old texture that has over 20 years of painting and repainting. Luckily, I had several gallons of extra paint that I could put down as a base before using the matching paint, I put both on very thick and it really made a difference. Unless you know where it blends, or you look directly at that point, you simply don't see it. I wish I would have had time to put on another real thick coat of the base. I think that would have made it perfect. If you don't have any extra paint to use as a base, sometimes Home Depot, Lowe's or a paint store have some odd light and dark colors for cheap due to mistakes in mixing or the customer's dissatisfaction. | |We will definitely call The Drywall Guy back when we are ready to tackle the rest of our issues. |
