Whether it is working with your business to analyze and determine areas of energy saving, hanging a fan, spotlighting your favorite painting, replacing, repairing or upgrading your electric service panel, troubleshooting your short circuit, Rio Salado Electric, Inc is the contractor you can rely upon to do right.
Our success is built upon the motto that has directed our company over the years - "Service Makes The Difference!"
On call-24 Hours Emergency Service
The service went really well. They did work on our ceiling fans; three of the four fans had stopped working. They found that the wrong equipment had been used in the original installation. They did a great job fixing the wiring and getting our fans working. We went on vacation and I came home and our master bedroom fan is not currently. I plan to follow up with them regarding that fan. I was pleased with the service and I would use them again.

The husband and wife owner were both very nice, but it wasn't the smoothest of transactions and it took longer than I expected. There were no additional fees associated with the deal though.
Description of Work: I purchased a $69 deal for an electrical service call plus 1 man hour of labor. I have a mobile home on my property and part of the trailer didn't have electricity anymore. They came in and supposedly repaired it, but it went out shortly there after. When it went out, they came out in the middle of the night. They got it fixed, but it went out again. I called them again and they forgot about that appointment, but when they did come back out they replaced the breakers and there was no charge for that visit.

It went fair. I purchased a deal for $69 for one hour of labor. They charged me $70 for materials for the GFI outlet, when the same one can be purchased for $20-$30. Although I expect a slight mark-up on supplies, I felt that the mark-up was unreasonable. The quality of the work was fine.

When installing a new GFCI outlet outdoors, we are required by code to install a weather-proof box and a bubble cover. This protects the outlet in case of rain or a sprinkler that is too close to the house even when the outlet is being used.

I was and am, exceptially pleased with the service! I needed my old, non-functioning, irrigation control box replaced with the new one I bought. The original box was hard wired to the house. The one we bought needed an exterior outlet to plug into. This, we could not do ourselves. From the first phone call to set up an appointment, I was greeted with understanding and confidence. I haphazardly tried to explain my needs (since I don't know anything about electrical work). I immediately knew, these guys know what they're doing. When they scheduled an appointment for me for the NEXT morning, they proceeded to call me that morning and inform of their status and specifically when they will arrive. They were very easy to talk to, and explained things in such a way that I could understand what they were doing. They were very conscious of observing the 1hr for $69 deal on Angies list. They went above and beyond when I asked them to explain which "zone" on the control box applied to which irrigation valve I have. I think they went over the allotted time, but did not say anything. They were happy to help. I would absolutely recommend them.
Description of Work: They replaced the (non-working and hard wired) irrigation box with the irrigation controller we had already purchased.

They were there on time, found the problem, and corrected the problem promptly. I had purchased a special deal for $69.00 which included a service call and 1-hour of labor. They took care of the problem for the $69.00. They only other charge of $12.00 was for a cover and wiring which was needed to complete the repair We live in a day and age where it is often difficult to find service professionals that can provide dependable quality work at an affordable price. Rio Salado Eclectic is one of these hard to find professionals. A big thank you goes out to Larry and Alex at Rio Salado Electric. This is a case where they were LITERALLY life savers!!
Description of Work: My mother had received an electrical shock from a new electric range she had recently had installed . Larry from Rio inspected the outlet and found that it had been wired incorrectly. He told me that the live current that was running through the range could have been potentially life-threatening. He corrected the problem by properly rewiring the outlet and securing it to the wall.

I had just had Rio Salado come out and do a complete inspection and make any necessary repairs ( see my previous review from 8 August). When I called to report a problem just a few days later, Larry came out within an hour or so, and checked everything. Just to make sure, he installed a new GFR switch. It worked just fine, until I plugged in a power cord back into the patio outlet right after Larry left. It caused the need to reset, and, again, it would not. I was fortunate to catch Larry before he drove away, and he came back in, In no time, he showed me that the outside cord had gotten wet, and showed me how to place it to avoid the same problem again. Larry could not have been nicer. There was no charge for the repeat visit, even though the problem was no fault of Rio Salado's; it was simply my own stupidity! These gentlemen at Rio Salado really provide service the old-fashioned way - the way one doesn't expect to experience any more.
Description of Work: Checked on the new GFR switch; it had the red light on and wouldn't re-set.

First, punctuality, after missing the first appointment we made a second one in which he was 15 minutes late. He spent the better part of the first hour talking about how he couldn't repair a 3 foot section of wire because it wasn't "code". Yet he was comfortable splicing an extension cord (which I had to run to Home Depot to buy, while he charged me to sit in my driveway for another 20 min) and plug that into an outside outlet and drape it across the ground. Somehow he felt he was not liable for any potential injury that could be caused from that, but he would be liable to repair the existing wire. I purchased a "deal" for one hour of man labor at $69 (the standard rate my other electrician charges me and he is WAY better, had I remembered him before this I would not have hired Rio Salado). Second, if you are going to bill me for sitting around with your hands in your pockets while I get you supplies you should already have on hand. You certainly should not answer your phone while charging me by the hour (which he did 3 times while onsite and talked for no less than 15 min over those 3 calls). After "solving" the problem with a spliced extension cord that is now draped across my sidewalk, he spent an additional 30 minutes trying to find the GFCI connection for the first outside outlet he attempted to connect. He did tell me it should be in a bathroom but he checked the bathroom it turned out to be in and didn't reset it. I found it 2 hours later and did it myself. Not a fan of this company and recommend working with more organized and less scammy cos. rates should be no more than $80 per hour for a good electrician.

I waited for the client for 20 minutes. I talked with the landscaper until the client showed up. The problem was that a tree removal had cut a 120 volt circuit that fed his low voltage watering system. The client informed me that he was planning on re-doing his landscaping and would probably move the controls so he wanted me to splice the wires in the middle of the yard. As a Licensed Electrician I have to abide by the electrical code. I cannot put a splice in the middle of his yard, nor can I run a temporary circuit above ground because it is not safe. Since this was going to be a temporary fix until he has remodeled his yard, running an extension cord was the easiest solution. When the new systems are in place then we can run the circuit any way it needs to be done. The client was only charged for the time that I was working and the Angie’s List Coupon covered it. Sorry you were unhappy with our solutions but we do our best on every project.

I took advantage of the $69 deal this company offered on 5 August, 2014. I was contacted promptly by Alex, and an appointment was made for 0700 Friday - early, because they would have to go up into my attic in this August heat.. I was called at 0700 that Friday morning, advising that they would be about a half hour late. Steve, and his helper, Andrew (Steve's son) arrived as promised and went right to work. I was amazed at how quickly and efficiently these gentlemen were able to deal with everything on the list of things that needed checking/repairing. They explained all the work that was done, and showed me that I did NOT need the dedicated circuits that I had assumed would be required for my entertainment center and for my computer/printer set-up. They showed me that I already had a high quality power strip with surge protector for my computer, and even installed one, which I already had, unused, for my TV/DVD, etc. The cost of the parts needed for upgrading was carefully explained to me, so there were no surprises. Both Steve and Andrew were extremely courteous and friendly, along with being very professional. Rio Salado is indeed fortunate to have workers of such high quality in their employ, and I would not hesitate to call them again if I needed electrical service - even without a "deal" from Angie's list !

It went well Update as of September 2014. Since I have had the ceiling fan installed. It turns off and on , on its own. When I'm sleeping in the middle of the night I would wake up because I'm hot and notice the fan that was on before I went to sleep was off. I would lay there for a few minutes and it shuts off again. The lights of turned on and off on their own. I have no clue the they did wrong. It's months after so I don't even know if they will fix it for free or try to charge me.

The Rio Salado electricians were very knowledgeable and efficient. They even took time to saw through the remaining metal at the bottom of the steel basketball net pole and helped me move it to the side of the house.
Description of Work: A severe storm the evening before blew down a pole with basketball net next to our driveway. An outlet box attached to the pole was badly damaged and we didn't know if it was "live". Also, our swimming pool pump was no longer working. The two men from Rio Salado checked, found the outlet box was not "live", and disconnected the wiring going to the box. It had been connected to the same breaker as the pool pump, so once the breaker was reset, the pool pump was working again. We were very relieved as we had to leave town that same afternoon for a meeting in Prescott the next day.

Started well with easy schedule and prompt arrival. Took maybe 15 minutes to diagnose and replace a GFCI outlet that I stood there with a plug tester in one hand and pointing to it with the other. The "Angies deal" I paid $69 for included an hour service call. I hate electricity or I would have done it myself. No disclosure or discussion on the front end of what the charges would be. After he replaced the outlet did the old classic invoice charging me $45 for a $7 GFCI outlet. When I politely refused to pay they guy said "just give me $20." and off they left. Similar themes from previous reviews were all there..... - They don't tell you what the charges will be (despite using Angies List) and like to surprise you with an old school invoice - They get the tax all wrong (I was told there would be no math?) - They send 2 guys out for a simply one guy job Just strange.........

Our Angie’s List Coupon covers 1 man-hour of work, it does not include parts. If we charge for parts we are required to charge sales tax on the entire amount including the coupon. That money goes straight to the City & State. We give the customer the invoice to inform them of what we did. In the rare exception that we do get called back, the invoice helps us know what was done for the customer’s protection and ours. We buy parts and stock them on the truck. We guarantee our work and the parts that we sell. If a part that we supplied fails we come out and replace it, at our cost. We have found that some parts are not as good as others so we buy the better parts. They cost more but are more durable. This is not pizza delivery. Our electricians are trained and have years of experience. Some jobs need one man, some need two. If it is a two-man job, we will charge for the extra man, if not we just charge for the one man. Just because the second man helps does not mean we will charge for him. The quicker we get the job done, the quicker we can go on to the next one.

I had no idea why he changed the wiring from 200 amp to 100 amp. I asked him why he did that at the time and he told me that I did not need 200 amp. He told me to save the 200 amp breaker as it was worth some money. I asked him if everything I needed for the home and the barn would run on the 100 amp and he assured me that it would. He did this without my knowledge or permission. I had other electrical things that needed to be done there on the premises so I had Larry send me a bid. I had no intentions of using him though after the amount of money he charged me over and above the agreed amount. The taxes he charged me were suspicious as well. After calling the government and going over what should have been charged for that area, I relayed that to Larry and he rebated me the money. I also hadn't received my 10% off for mentioning Angie's List which I had, and so he also refunded that money. This all brought it back down to the original quoted amount to do the job. I am now having issues with the electricity needed to supply the barn and the building and I haven't even started the remodel to a home yet. My new electrician told me that 100 amps will not be enough. He asked why we changed it to 100 amps and I had to tell him that I honestly do not know why Larry did that. He suggested that it was perhaps that it was because the wiring for 100 amps was about $1,000.00 cheaper than 200 amps. This now made sense to me. I have requested that Larry do a load sheet on the amount of electricity that I will be needing when the house is complete. I will be using a 3 ton A/C heat pump a/c unit, a refrigerator, a washer dryer, stove, water heater, dish washer and various other appliances. This load sheet needs to show with everything running, including the barn and arena lights. I had asked these questions before when he told me that he changed it from 200 amp to 100 amp. I now need to see the sheet. I have asked Larry to provide this to me in writing. I am still waiting. I do not feel that I should have to pay twice for this electrical to be hooked up properly.
Description of Work: This is at our property in San Tan Valley. Rewired electricity to access a building, barn and arena from existing electrical stand that was there previously for a mobile home. The mobile home had been removed so the electrical had to be hooked back up in order for the electricity to be restored to the 1400 sf building that is going to be remodeled into a home. It also provides the electricity to the barn and arena. I had sent Larry via e-mail the information that SRP had given me when they came out to the property telling me the options that I had regarding the rewire and the permits needed. Larry told me that this is a repair job and therefore did not need a permit. He changed the wiring from 200 amp to 100 amp. He changed breakers from 20 to 15. He charged me more than the agreed price and more taxes than anywhere in the valley. I did get the taxes back after I wrote to him telling him that. I also got my 10% rebate I was supposed to get as an Angies List customer.

Response from Rio Salado Electric
The Client had planned the job to run a 200 amp circuit from the power pole to a pedestal and then to the house and barn area. The Client wanted to save money so when we determined that the circuit from the power pole to the pedestal was in good shape and the pedestal was also in good shape, we advised her to leave that as is and just run from the pedestal to the house and barn area. This saved the Client $3,500. We had to hand dig the line from the pedestal to the house and barn area to avoid hitting main plumbing lines. During this time I talked to her about the requirements for the circuit. The Client said that the house was approximately 1,100 to 1,200 SF and would be for a couple that would watch the place. The barn would be used to board a few horses and that the lighting would be with the more efficient fixtures that provide the same amount of light with less electrical requirements. I discussed with her that if that was all that was required she could use a 100 amp services instead of 200 amp. She agreed. That saved her $3,000 in material costs. I had to change some 20 amp breakers to 15 amp breakers because of code requirements. Each of these changes meant savings to her and less income for me. All changes were made to meet the Client’s needs but still save her money. No she has increase the size of the house by 60%, by incorporating storage and the garage as part of the living space. Now the house is large enough to house a family. The barn has gone from a small boarding facility to an event venue. She is lighting the parking area and lighting an arena on her neighbor’s property.

There was a special for service that I took advantage of. My home was built in a transitional year with code on ground wires - they had to be there, but not necessarily wired to the light switch. I was having trouble locating the ground wire in the boxes (covered in drywall dust so it appeared white and I felt uncomfortable fishing around the box). The electricians fished them out and added copper wiring to make the ground wires more accessible. He talked me through wiring, why the wiring was done that way and what and what not to be worried about. The main thing was that he didn't BS me and say I needed all my wiring to be looked at with some ridiculous charge.

Two workers showed up to install--not sure why. Seemed to be a one person job. Ended up charging us $115 over what we had already paid for a visit and 1 hour of electrician work that should have been sufficient to replace a new fan & fixture (the wiring was already there). Could have had Home Depot install it for $100.

Work crew arrived approximately 15 minutes late with no explanation for tardiness. No big deal, since I did not have another appointment. The installation of the THREE electrical lights that were purchased at Home Depot was completed within the one hour "certificate" time that was purchased. Work was completed professionally and to my satisfaction. The boxes and packing that the lights were purchased in, were left on the ground in the vicinity of where they were installed. I felt that the workers should have, at least, dicarded the packageing in the trash containers that was within a few feet. Oh well, again not that big of a deal, but had to be mentioned. For the price of the job the work was satisfactory. Would probably use the company again at a "discounted" price.
