ARMOR-DECK INC

It couldn't have been worse. The job was originally completed in Oct '08, the redone in Jan '09, and redone again in Mar '09. The results were the same in all three cases -- about half of the entire surface looked like unfinished concrete instead of resembling natural stone. To add to the problems shrinkage cracks began appearing thru-out the surface over the summer of '09. At this point I filed a 3rd complaint against A-D with the Registrar of Contractors. On 3/24/10 ROC gave A-D 15 calendar days to resolve the problems. On 3/30/10 I was notified by ROC that A-D filed for bankruptcy protection. It turns out that the filing was under Chapter 7, which means they will not be reorganizing and coming back to screw up other jobs -- at least not as Armor-Deck. GOOD RIDANCE !

I must admit, I am pretty pleased with the final result. It was getting to the final result that was frustrating. I got quotes from 3 different companies which included start times. Armor Deck had the lowest quote and the salesman told me the project could be done in about the same amount of time as the other companies. Well, they started a full month after the the start date I was told by the salesman. Mind you, this meant the work was not getting done until the end of June, as opposed to the end of May so it would be ready for summer. The workers who came out were efficient and did a good job, when they were there. The whole process dragged on. Due to an oversight by the project manager, they cut the electric to the pool so the concrete needed to be cut and the electric rewired which added almost another 3 weeks to the project and $1200 to the original quote for the electric work. When they went to fill the pool, they put the hose in, turned it on, and let it go. If I had not gotten home from work in time the pool would have overflowed. I also got almost no instruction on how to manage a pool. The project manager was difficult to get a hold of and seemed to be the biggest problem with the whole project. He was later replaced and I have worked with someone else the past few times I have had questions and she has been a pleasure to work with in comparison. In fact, she came out and took care of a problem I had with the auto leveler the same week I called saying there was a problem. Again, I think the final product came out nice, it was getting there that was frustrating.

This is the worst company I have ever done business in the 30 years that I have lived in Phoenix. The quality of their work was substandard compared to the samples in their showroom even though their literature states that they can match virtually any pattern, color and surface. I made 8 calls to their office and each time explained my problem to either the secretary or the left a message on the general manager's voice mail. He did not have the common courtesy nor the appropriate level of customer service to return even one call. I filed a complaint and the finding was in my favor. Although I settled by not paying for approximately 25% of the work my preference would have been for it to be done right.

I have to admit, after reading several negative reports on Armor-Deck through this website I was a little leary about hiring them for our remodeling project. But, it was a good experience start to finish. There was no hard sell to purchase extras or upgrade our package, but after visiting the showroom and getting pricing we couldn't resist. We were advised the project would start in four weeks, but they started in two and our project was completed before the original start date we were originally given. We are very pleased with the end result, our new back yard looks beautiful. I know of someone that recently used Armor-Deck just for their decking and had another company do their pool and they stated that they wished they had hired Armor-Deck for the entire job. My only complaint was the deck was done before the pool was resurfaced, and the deck was damaged during that job. I called to report the problem and they were back out the following week to make the necessary repairs.

OVERALL WE ARE VERY UNHAPPY WITH THE SERVICE AND INABILITY OF ARMOR DECK TO RESOLVE THE PROBLEM OF THE TILE FROM THEIR MANUFACTURER. OUR POOL SAT UNCOMPLETED FOR WEEKS WHILE WE TRIED TO NEGOTIATE A RESOLUTION. I INVITED ALL OF THEM TO VISIT MY HOME AND VIEW THE COLOR PROBLEMS FROM THEIR CATALOGUE TO WHAT WAS INSTALLED, THEY DIDN'T RESPOND. THE ONLY RESPONSE THEY HAD WAS THAT ADDITIONAL MONIES FROM US WOULD BE NEEDED TO RECTIFY THE PROBLEM. WE HAD WAITED YEARS TO DO THIS REMODEL AND ULTIMATELY WE DID NOT GET WHAT WE ORDERED.

THE WORK DONE WAS EXCELLENT. THE WORK MADE THE WHOLE POOL AREA LOOK NEW. THEY DID GET SOME CONCRETE SPLASHED UP ON THE WALLS TO THE HOUSE. THE PERSON WHO CAME OUT TO GIVE US A BID WAS VERY KNOWLEDGEABLE AND HELPFUL. HE TALKED TO US ABOUT PLANTS AND WE WEREN'T HAVING THEM DO ANY LANDSCAPING. THEY STARTED A DAY LATER THAN EXPECTED BUT WERE PRETTY GOOD ABOUT COMMUNICATING WITH US.

THEY DID A GOOD JOB. THE JOB WAS DONE EXACTLY HOW I WANTED. ALTHOUGH THERE WERE DAYS THAT THEY WEREN'T THERE WORKING.

THE SALESPERSON WAS VERY GOOD. HE DID A GREAT DEMO., AT THE HOUSE, AND WAS VERY INFORMATIVE.

ALTHOUGH THEIR PRICING WAS THE BEST, THEY DELAYED THE START OF THE JOB BY 2 MONTHS. WE FOUND OUT LATER THEY NEEDED TO HIRE SOMEONE EXPERIENCED ENOUGH TO HANDLE THE COMPLEXITY OF THIS JOB. WE COMPLAINED NUMEROUS TIMES AND EVEN HAD THE OWNER OUT TO MEET WITH US TO RESOLVE THE ISSUES. IN THE END THE WORK WAS DONE WELL AND THE POOL FUNCTIONS PERFECTLY. JUST TOO MANY HEADACHES.

THEY WERE THE MOST COMPETITIVE PRICE FOR THE WORK WE WANTED TO HAVE DONE. THE DIFFERENT CREWS TOOK PRIDE IN THEIR WORK AND TOOK THEIR TIME TO DO A GOOD JOB. ANY SPILLS OR ITEMS THAT NEEDED TO BE REWORKED WERE HANDLED QUICKLY.

OVERALL THE SERVICE WAS GOOD. THERE WAS CONFUSION ON WHAT COLOR AND PATTERN THE PATIO WAS SUPPOSED TO BE RESURFACED WITH. IT SEEMS THE PATTERN/COLOR THAT WAS CHOSEN IN THE SHOWROOM WAS NOT RELAYED TO THE WORKMEN AND THE PROCESS HAD TO BE RESTARTED.
