Description of Work: After leaving a voice mail for an estimate for adding insulation, Mike called back soon after and came over the same day to give us the estimate. His estimate was a good price and we hired him. He and his employee came on the appointment day, did the work and cleaned up and went on to the next appointment. Mike is very friendly and efficient. We liked having the "boss" at the job site working to make sure all went well, which it did. We wouldn't hesitate to recommend him.

We run a management company and are always on the search for great contractors! We of course found Murray Insulation on Angie's List after reviewing several different companies. I called and spoke with Mike, who was very friendly, I let him know one of our properties was missing insulation in the attic over two rooms. He was able to schedule our client for the next day at 8am, after completion of the job I spoke with our client and he was very pleased with Murray Insulation. They were prompt, quick and cleaned up all mess. I received the bill the next morning and was pleased with the pricing, I would highly recommend using Murray Insulation.

Mike was great to work with. He was very helpful and responsive to all our questions. He gave us an estimate based on an inspection of our attic and square footage of the house, explained the process, then sent us a confirmed quote via email. He did the estimate on a Thursday, we accepted the bid via email over the weekend, and the insulation was installed the very next Monday. For both the estimate and the installation, he and his crew arrived on time and worked quickly and efficiently, leaving very little mess. We are very pleased with the work and how much cooler our house feels. Looking forward to seeing our heating/cooling bills go down!

The job was performed carefully, quickly, and professionally. Mr. Murray also gave us some extra service by insulating the laundry room access port. He knows his business and I would recommend him to anyone needing to update or improve their insulation.
Description of Work: We were especially pleased as we thought that the cathedral ceilings could not be insulated and that the $740 price for R-19 insulation was just for the one-third of the 2,200 sf house that had flat ceilings. Then we found out that he could blow the insulation into the cathedral ceiling areas as well. We went with his recommendation to put in fiberglass over the existing cellulose which had settled over the 12 years of the hoome's age.

Overall, I am very pleased with the entire transaction. Mike is professional & honest. He returns phone calls, provides written estimates, and shows up on time (early, actually!). He is knowledgable about blown insulation (we had a good discussion of pros/cons of cellulose vs. fiberglass). He put down plastic sheets, cleaned up after himself, and left our house clean. I climbed in the attic after he was done to inspect the work (I always recommend this!) and was happy with the job he did (good coverage, stapled a paper "ruler" to a structural member so he - and I - could confirm that he had installed to the correct depth, etc.). I dinged Mike a little on responsiveness because it was a little hard to get a hold of him at times, but that's my only (minor) complaint. In terms of price, while I didn't get any other estimates (based on strength of his feedback on AL!), his quote seemed reasonable and he did honor the 10% AL discount. After the job was complete, I still believe I got good value for the money I paid. I have already referred Mike to 2 of my friends; I would not have done this if I had any reservations with Murray Insulation!
Description of Work: I hired Murray Insulation to 1) replace approx. 500 s.f. of contaminated insulation that another company had removed from my attic (to R-38), and 2) add insulation in other areas of the attic (where original insulation was still in place) to increase the insulation value from R-19 to R-38.

Contacted Mike Murray Insulation for a price. Mike came out to the house. He got up inside the attic and walked in the attic from one side of the house to the other and then back again. He was able to see exactly what was needed and also he was able to get a feel for the job at hand. Mike is the owner of Murray Insulation and he is the installer. He gave me a very good price in writing and then backed it up on line via a computer letter the same day. I had two quotes in hand. The original and the computer quoted. One week later, Mike and his helper came at the time he said he would come. He showed up in a large box work truck, his business name was clearly marked on the door of his truck. Inside the truck was a expensive machine that was used to blow the insulation into the attic. He pulled out 200 feet of hose and they went to work. He was fast, neat, cleaned up after himself and then he asked me to take a peak, so I could see what he did. I was totally happy with Mike, his helper, the job results and everything he did. I personally think I was luck to have him do the job. He was excellent. I thought about renting a machine, buying the insulation and doing the job myself. That would have been a big waste of time and energy on my part. Bike is an expert who does this tough job. He knows his business and he was well worth hiring.

Mike is a really nice guy who charges an extremely fair price. They were quick and efficient. Our place is about 1700 square feet, and a two-person crew (of which Mike was one) installed 18 inches of blown fiberglass insulation in right around two hours. We have can lights in the ceiling which are not rated for insulation contact (IC), and they provided a barrier to separate the lights and insulation free of charge. Mike informed us of the existence of a specialized cover that costs around $20 apiece, but then said they typically place a tube around recessed lights to keep the insulation off for free. This is important because if insulation is placed directly on top of a non-IC rated fixture, it presents a fire hazard. Overall, Mike and the people at Murray do good work and are very competitive on price.
Description of Work: Murray blew insulation into our attic space following a major renovation which resulted in the loss of most of what little insulation was left on the ceiling. Attic space is about 1700 square feet, and the product was blown fiberglass. Service included placing barriers around recessed lighting and placing batt insulation around and on top of the attic access cover.

We had Murray "shoot" more insulation into the attic of our house that was built in 1986. Mike Murray was on time for our estimate appointment, gave us a fair price, called when he was late for the appointment to do the job (he was caught in a traffic problem), did the job quickly and efficiently. We think we can already "feel" the effects of the extra insulation. I rated the "Quality" as N/A because I have no idea how to rate quality of insulation...I assume the "proof" will be in the summer electric bills! I did not put a dollar amount, because I don't care to share the cost. I will say the price was very fair.

This is a top-notch crew. After explaining my situation to Mike (owner/installer), he got into the attic and recommended an R30 blown-in solution. His price was by far the lowest, and his professionalism was excellent. I admit that I was a little worried about quality given that his price was so low ($0.50/sq ft), but I shouldn't have been. He showed up on time on the install date, was done in a matter of a couple of hours, and left absolutely no mess behind. I inspected the attic, and it's extremely well insulated. I can already feel the difference in temperature in my house. Clearly, Mike takes his professional reputation seriously and wants satisfied customers. If you want it done right for a great price, this is the crew. Highest recommendation.

Very well. Mike was very professional, friendly and on time. We made an appointment for the following week. He and his team insulated the entire attic and offered to remove wasted insulation over the garage and move it to a wall in need of batting, all inclusive. They were very neat and made an effort not to bother other work being performed at the house. I plan to use the company again.

Communications is a major problem with this company. I made an oral agreement with Mike, owner of Murray Insulation (MI), but he delayed in getting a contract to me. Days passed, and I didnt hear back to confirm the date for the work nor a contract. The date was quickly approaching, but it felt like everything was in limbo. I thought maybe the company is very busy, so I didn't stress, but I felt uneasy because I had to schedule a vacation day from my job to let the workers in, and other work needed to happen around MI's work (dealing with other contractors). Two days before the orally agreed date, I thought I better email MI asking for confirmation on the date and a contract. Mike emailed back that night confirming the date, but still no contract. Less than 24 hours before the work is scheduled the contract was finally sent. However, because of an email/computer snafu on my end, I got the wrong contract. Seeing how long it took to get the incorrect contract, I didnt want to risk a delay, so I responded to MI saying we were still on for the date/time. I assumed MI is probably very busy, and was trying to be helpful, or just deal with the contract when they showed up next morning. Everything we had orally agreed to was 100% ok with me and with MI, there were no disagreements whatsoever verbally or over email. Nonetheless, I learned later that MI in fact develop a problem with the email snafu. Because Im at work its extremely difficult to check personal emails during the day. What really bummed me out was that Mike did not have the courtesy to call me to discuss things, to talk about the contract, or to comment that there were any problems or questions on his end. They would have been clarified immediately. Mike did make a call but not to me: he called Angies List to say there were "contract disputes" (when in fact there were not). Then it seems Mike sent a rant email late in the afternoon, which I did not receive until late that night. On the email he cancelled the appointment, literally hours before the work was scheduled to begin the next morning. Because I didnt see any of this until I got home that night, I could not back off my vacation day. I called and emailed Mike to profusely apologize for any miscommunication, but that I was still committed to the scheduled date. This was important because there were other contractors scheduled around MI's work. In the end, MI didnt show up, didnt call back, didnt email, didnt have the courtesy of talking to a client that was dealing in good faith. I wasted one of my few vacation days,.and other contractors' time, so Murray Insulation could leave me high and dry at the last minute. To recap: there was no disagreement on the contract, MI and I were on the same page. However, it seems communication is a problem for this company. They wait until shortly before work dates to settle contracts and confirm dates. While that is not an issue with me, they dont seem to understand or give some room for possible miscommunication problems when doing things with such short timetables. Instead of picking up the phone to clarify problems, they send emails assuming people have all day to be in front of a personal computer. Perhaps for that reason they rush to judgement. In my book cancelling a scheduled job less than 24 hours before a it is scheduled without the courtesy of a phone call is not a business practice I would call dependable nor interested in satisfying the client.

Response from Murray Insulation LLC
Unfortunately this member and I were unable to come to terms that were agreeable to both parties. I had changed my contract wording to accommodate this member, but his ideal terms offered no give and take, leaving this deal too big of a gamble for myself and my company to undertake. I did however refer this member to another insulation company who ended up handling the project. I always do my best to accommodate all of my customers on pricing and terms that are both fair and agreeable, and I hope that members will please refer to my several other positive reviews for a more accurate portrayal of the quality of work I provide as well as the way I treat my clients. Thank you. Michael Murray.

Mike showed up on time, was very professional, and did a great job. He did such a thorough job cleaning up, I couldn't tell he'd been there. His price was very fair - $.59/square foot (10 inches) to blow in R-30 loose-fiber insulation over the existing 22-year old cellulose. I would certainly recommend him to others.

I contacted Mike based on the other reviews at AngiesList. He met with me at my home a few days later to look at my attic space and go over his services and products. He asked me questions about the comfort level in each area of the house so that he was able to get an idea of where the problem areas might reside. I have high vaulted ceilings through the main section of my home and even with ceiling fans going, the air still felt warm to me. Mike told me about how a typical job works: He arrives with another worker, they come with a truck-mounted machine which will blow the insulation into the attic, they would need a small path in my garage to run the hose from the truck into my laundy room (which is where the attic access panel resides), and that it would take them about 2 hours to blow the Knauf Jetstream 73-3 fiberglass insulation into the space. Mike sent me a quote via email 2 days later which was extremely reasonable. We set up a date for two weeks in the future. Mike arrive at 7:15 a.m. with a large (26ft) truck. He and his worker just asked that we shut the door from the laundry room into the house and then they started working. All of the machine noise and material was on the truck so there was no dust or fiberglass dust bunnies inside my house. They started blowing about 7:40 and finished at 8:40 a.m. He and I settled the bill while his worker cleaned up and they were off to their next job at 9:00 a.m. It was an absolute joy to work with someone as honest, timely and capable as Mike.

After receiving bids from 5 companies that varied wildly in price from $2,250 to $1,200 for cellulose insulation, and $3,280 to $1,125 for loosefill blown-in fiberglass insulation, I selected Murray Insulation, LLC. Unlike most of the other bidders who were going to rent a small 3 ft. x 3 ft. portable machine from Home Depot with a 100 ft. hose, Murray Insulation has a truck-mounted, heavy duty, machine with 200 ft. of hose. The machine stays in the truck and does not have to be hauled into the house, saving a lot of clean-up time. Mike Murray and his assistant arrived on time and prepared the job site by draping the door jambs with drop cloths and installing rulers in the attic space. They spent the next 3 hours blowing in a minimum of 25 bags of Knauf Jet Stream 73.3 Blowing Wool insulation, which is soft like cotton b****, not pink and scratchy like the competition. Although there was no mess to speak of, Mike and his assistant vacumned whatever loose fiberglass there was. Mike gave me a copy of the Manufacturer's Certification Statement that I will use for my 2010 Federal Energy Tax Credit. I highly recommend this firm for their professionalism, punctuality and competitive pricing.
Description of Work: Murray Insulation, LLC installed an additional R-19 (7" +) of Knauf Jet Stream 73.3 Blowing Wool fiberglass insulation in my 3000 sq. ft. attic, which had 10-year-old, builder-installed, loose-fill cellulose insulation.
