The finished product looks OK, but the process of getting there was challenging. Our original agreement was for sanding, staining and three coats of oil based polyurethane for our entire house. In the end, we chose to go natural with the floor (no stain) with water-based polyurethane so the floor would not be yellow. Ron said there would be an added surcharge for water based polyurethane which I agreed to (even though the stain would not be needed). However, after sanding and three coats of water-based polyurethane, the floor was very rough to the touch so that our socks got caught on the floor. I asked Ron if he sanded between each coat of polyurethane, and he assured me he did. He said that roughness is common for water-based polyurethane as the grain raises from the water. However, I have experience with construction and understand that sanding between coats is key to a nicely finished floor. When I told him we could not accept a rough floor, he said he would sand again, and apply a 4th coat of polyurethane, but for an additional price. I was surprised by this, but I agreed because I just wanted the floors smooth as should be expected according to our agreement. After the 4th coat, the floor was now smooth. When I questioned him about the significant difference between the third and fourth coats, and that clearly the sanding had now been done (but at an additional cost) he said that he would come back at some point in the future, and apply another coat for free because he wanted me to be happy. But at this point, I was frustrated, felt a bit taken advantage of, and just wanted to get into our house.

My door was left open with the key in it. A wall, a kickplate, a nightlight and an outlet cover were damaged. The color was not as expected and discussed. The work was sloppy there was a lot of varnish on the baseboards, the base of the sink and the toilet. The owner owned up to the damage but I was still left with a bad taste in my mouth. If you are looking for a bargain price, they are alright but be aware, their work is good but sloppy.

They were VERY RESPONSIVE and efficient and easy to work with. They refinished hardwood flooring and in the middle of the job the roof leaked and he alerted me immediately so that I could get it fixed and he worked the entire weekend to keep my move schedule on time. They are the best!!

Ron and his crew (Josh) refinished our 20 year old red oak hardwood floors throughout our recently purchased home, as well as replaced water and wear damaged areas, and matched it all perfectly. Ron explained the timelines, and what to expect throughout the process. He provided recommendations based on the type of wood, the colors, and the finish coatings. He provided numerous options for stain, and used a Splinter Jersey Special Custom Blend grey/brown combination for our farmhouse that turned out perfectly. He knew the look we were after, and nailed it. Ron proved to be an expert in his knowledge and repair of hardwood (he has been at it since 1988). He was great at communicating each step, responsive to text and email, and showed great ownership of his work. Ron was very good about draping everything with plastic & tape and cleaned up well after the job was complete. He provided care, cleaning and maintenance instruction follow-up after completion. Our floors turned out great, and I would use him again, and recommend him to others. Thanks Ron.

Needed the master bedroom, hardwood floor refinished. Ron came and lighted sanded the floor. However, there were areas where the stain was totally removed down to the wood. Additionally, he only did one layer of polyurethane. I questioned him about it and he stated that is all that was needed. A couple days later I contacted some professionals who indeed stated that the process is usually three coats of polyurethane. I guess since I lived on the other side of the valley then where he is located,, he did not want to come back to put down additional coats.

Ron, of Splinters, made our 57 year old hardwood flooring look like new! He is a master of woods, very experienced and is articulate in describing what would be the best way to bring out the natural beauty of the wood. At every step we were informed of what to expect as far as time and the progress of the project. Ron explained limitations our project would have due to the age of the floor. There were no surprises. Our floors look even better than we had hoped, and we are so happy to have been able to preserve them. I would definitely turn to Ron for any hardwood projects I would have in the future. Terrible, destroyed my floor and floorboards and door frames, took 24 days to do the work, terrible job first time and I gave another opportunity to fix it because he was worried about the destruction he had caused, and he still did a second terrible job.my text to him, I think I gave you plenty of chances - you never texted/emailed me the confirmation of job, you said you would put plastic over everything to make sure nothing get dusty, I had to ask you repeatedly, then give you my own supply of plastic to cover just one area with plastic on the third day, You worked for 3 hours on the first two days, you did not take the quarter round off, and have destroyed it all over the house with the sanding job, the pictures I sent you show what a poor job of staining was done, the floor is rough and spotty with the sanding machine scratches because of the bad sanding job. He said he would fix it all promising once again to put plastic, stain and do whatever needs to be done, then left before the work got completed and then expected extra payment. I have two stain colors distinctly visible in my floors. Do not use this guys

Ron and Josh proved to be masters of their craft while installing, sanding and finishing red oak floors in our 100+ year old home. Problems with the existing sub-floor and transitions between rooms were discussed and solutions, based on Rons many years of experience, were implemented with costs given before the work proceeded. The floor throughout looks amazing!! And captures the beauty, authenticity, and integrity we were hoping for. We highly recommend Splinters for your hardwood floor needs.

Ron was on time, very professional and was very familiar with our type of flooring, We were deciding to keep it or change it. He came in sanded the floor repaired the areas that needed repaired and it looks like brand new. It will last another 10-15 years and we can sand it again. Excellent job Ron

Ron replaced my ½â Bamboo floor with ¾â solid Brazilian Cherry hardwood. Total 600 sq. ft. of flooring. From start-to-finish it took 29 days to complete the project. Based on talking to other people who had done similar floor replacement, this was excessive duration for a project this size. It would be well served if Ron reviews the entire project (not just his portion) and allows some schedule flexibility based on other people that work for him to complete the project. As far as workmanship and quality, Ron did a good job. Floors look great. Although Ron thought just natural urethane finish would show the Cherry wood better, but we wanted to see more pronounced cherry color. Ron had no problem applying the cherry stain followed by two coats of finish. I will higher Ron again to do our master bedroom closet in about 4-6 weeks. He is reliable and keeps his promises. Ron was great to work with. He resurfaced our cheery wood floors and his recommendations to retain the beauty of the natural wood vs staining it was spot on. Would definitely call him again.

Ron was amazing. He was on time, tidy, and did not even complain when I requested a second coat of stain be put on before the sealer... Very pleasant personality also, which is always nice.
