Smoky's Garage Door tried to rip me off. Several of the rollers on my door wore out. After looking at the door, the technician, David, informed me that the whole door would have to be replaced at a cost of >$1,000. When I told him that I knew only the rollers needed to be replaced and besides, I didn't have $1,000 for a new door, he told me that the rollers for my door are almost impossible to find. When I again told him I only wanted the rollers, he made a call to - presumably - his boss. I could hear both ends of the conversation. The person David called asked him if David had told me I needed a new door and if I had told David I only wanted to replace the rollers. It seemed obvious to me that David had been instructed to try to sell me a new garage door - that I don't need and can't afford. After ending the conversation, David went to his truck and came back with the 14 rollers he proceeded to replace. Those were the same rollers he had told me were nearly impossible to find 10 minutes before. I recommend that you not use this firm. In fact, do not even bother calling them. They tried to rip me off!

Called for a garage door repair. They came on site and said it was not covered under insurance and would run $350.00. When the technician left the garage door openers no longer worked in the cars and outside panel. Called to notify Smokeys and they said to put in another call to AHS and there would be additional charges. Unacceptable. Ensure your technicians have a check list before leaving a customers site.

At the height my garage door was originally installed it was too low to get my truck in the garage. Knowing it may not be possible, I needed to gain an extra 3 inches of clearance. David, the tech, came out and measured and consulted with the owner on a solution. About 2 hours later the job was done-installed taller tracks now with TONS of clearance-an addition 4.5 inches. Great job guys!

They were awesome to work with. The scheduling was great and they were fast with the work. They were friendly and he called ahead of when he was coming to my home. He came to the front door and I invited him in and he said that they do not go through customers homes and they just go through the garage and that is what he did.

Garage door spring broke on Sunday (of course). Called them Monday morning and got a Monday afternoon appointment. Since my car was held hostage inside the garage, I was happy to get access by end of day. Technician called at 2:45 to say he was 30 minutes away. Finally showed up at 4:30. He wouldn't answer his cell phone during the duration. He did the repair promptly and asked to be paid. I asked if he had checked the rollers and the door mounting screws. He blew me off and said it would be fine. I paid the bill and called the office with my concerns. I was promised that the owner and/or supervisor would call me back first thing the next day. It's the next day and we haven't heard anything more. I have put in calls to the office and no response. I will go to another company with our business next time.

Overall, one of the best "house calls" I have ever had! Prompt, courteous, fast, accurate work, and informative for this client's future reference. I went from "zero" knowledge to not freaking out if something happens!
Description of Work: Replaced broken spring; cleaned and greased tracks, oiled hinges, tested all workings. Professional worked quickly and efficiently; showed me where to appy oil in the future to protect hinges and tracks. Really first-rate service. Will recommend to everyone with pleasure. Price paid for Smokey's work consisted of standard service call rate and parts/labor (approximately 50%-50%).

Did not go. Service call expensive. No work performed. Will check another garage door business on Angie's List.
Description of Work: I was really disappointed. I have used Smokeys before. I wanted key pad reprogramed and needed two little batteries for the remote. The last time I was given a fair price to come over. This time one of the young family members would not budge from the service call of $79.00. I live less than 5 miles away and I bet the job could had been handled in 15 min or less. They know what they are doing so I figured the 15 min or less time. Could I be wrong? Than the deal I had for them was I have 95% of a Genie garage door opener and ALL the parts except the two remotes, all new never used. I would had thought all the new parts would had been worth a service call. Than I am told the parts and unit I have is not that good, not well made. I dont know. I have the unit for years and works like it should. I just messed up the key pad one day. Thats why I dont have a smart phone. Yes I did for eight days and turned it in. Went back to basic. I guess I was wrong. Need more help in the office at 8:30 AM. Phone calls kept coming in. I feel sad since I thought since they were here before, did a good job whatever was done (I dont remember) and we are neighbors I expected more for a senior that counts where my money goes. I guess business is business, I was expecting better personal service, not that I am special. Anybody out their think I am wrong?

My garage door was stuck in the open position; had fallen off the tracks on one side and the cable/spring was off the roller causing the door to jam. Called Smokies Garage Door for help. They couldn't show up till the next day. Managed to get the door closed so it didn't stay open all night. Discussed with rep the problem, what I thought it was and cost for solutions. Requested the top torsion tube be replaced, they said it wasn't necessary in 99% of the cases but would bring all necessary parts for the repairs. Cost was discussed based on different scenarios. TECH showed up on time, I was at work with my wife at home. TECH was professional, polite, skilled and gave my wife options on the repairs. After discussion with my wife, settled on repair plan which was implemented by the TECH at a reasonable cost. I was very happy with the repairs. Replaced all rollers, bearings for torsion tube and re-set proper torsion on both springs. I waited to write the review to see how the repairs held up. It has been over 3 months and the door is operating flawlessly, still much smoother and quieter than before said repairs were made. I would use Smokies again.
Description of Work: These are just my opinions - take as such. Compete door tune-up. Re-set torsion springs. Replaced all torsion bearings. Do get an estimate from more than one company. In my case, Smokies was the least expensive. Do ask for worst case scenario costs so you know in advance. Do expect to pay a fair price, you're not only paying for parts and service, but skills also. This is specialized work. Don't try to work on the door yourself unless you know what you are doing. The springs are a "Stored Energy Device" and can cause severe injury if you get in their way when they de-tension. (Read as KNOW, not THINK) Don't take out any fustrations on the TECH. He is just doing his job. Costs are set by the company.

Repair tech came out and quickly analyzed the situation. Took him 5-10 minutes, and he knew exactly what the problem was and how to fix it. Very pleased with the service and quality of the work. Would use this company again. Only complaint was that they said they would call before they came, but I didn't get any call. However, they did arrive right on time, so it wasn't an issue.

Quick response and capable repairman.
Description of Work: As I backed out of the garage, my SUV mirror caught the door track and bent it. When I closed the door some rollers came out on both sides of the door. When I retracted the door, rails were bowed and the two bottom panels were hanging loose. Smokey's man put the rollers back into the track and straightened the bent parts so it operates properly.

I requested repair through my home warranty so I did not have a choice on what provider to use. I am glad it was Smokey's Garage Door. I requested service through my home warranty on a Saturday and Smokey's Garage Door called me first thing Monday morning to setup the appointment. They gave me a four hour window of when they would arrive and they also called before they arrived to ensure we could still meet. Since I was at work my wife met with the repair technicians. The Smokey's Garage Door technicians were able to repair the opener without having to leave and come back. They also did a complete maintenance and operational check of the system. They lubricated all the garage door parts and pieces that needed it. Plus, they also explained everything they did and let us know how to do preventative maintenance on the garage door pieces and parts. I was impressed with the amount of information they passed along. They were able to take a credit card as payment as well.

My garage door spring broke, trapping a car inside the 200 lb double door. Smokeys couldn't provide any service to me for several days, and could not be precise about what time of the day a serviceman would arrive. They did not give me an estimate over the phone. I give them high marks for professionalism for being up front about the fact that they were busy, and for not stringing me along, but gave them a low grade for responsiveness.

Garage door would not open. Smokey's was provided by home warranty company, so visit was only $65, not sure what the regular charge would have been. I have done several reports on Angie's list and never give anyone all "A" and high recommendation, however Kevin and Smokey's was the single best home repair service of any type. And I have had a lot of repairs and repair providers. They were timely, professional and super knowledgeable. They informed be that despite the age of my opener, it was heavy duty and "they dont make em like they used to" and advised me how to keep this operational, and in the future which fixes are worthwhile and which fixes would not be. Several adjustments were made and a part was replaced. I will never use anyone but these guys again for any garage door repairs that they can perform my personal home and rentals.
Description of Work: Garage door would not go up. When it would go up, it would not stop when coming back down, tearing door parts and causing damage. Some times it woud work, some times it would not. I am fairly handy, so tries several adjusments according to the manufacturer troubleshooting guide (even really old ones are online now). In addition I am too cheap to pay for a repair person, and have been gouged by garage door repair companies 2X in the past year (report for repairs to my rentals posted about 6-9 months ago) so wanted to try everything first and make sure. Smokey's adjusted the arm guide, replaced a necessary part, adjusted the travel guides, lubed the moving parts and provided me with tons of education on my particular opener, how to maintain, and what to do if it ever needs to be fixed again.

This company apparently has a very good reputation (I live out of state), and was recommended to me for this service. The young man sent to do the work had little to no idea what to do, so made repeated calls to apparently be "talked through" each step he was to perform. I had asked for three garage door openers, but he had only two, saying a third could be mailed and he could show me how to program it. This was not viable as 1) I was leaving the state shortly after this service, and 2) this is what I hired them to do (this was a recently purchased house, I did not have a ladder nor other tool). I was given the bill with which I had disagreement and called about it. The discussion was neither professional nor pleasant.I now understand from one who made the recommendation that part of the cost difference issue was a miscommunication;however, the person at the company didn't seem to want to work with me in any way.I paid the bill and dismissed the situation. Just after the service person left, I tried to close the remaining open garage door, and found the controls by the back door into the house did not work, nor had the outside keypads been programmed. I called for his immediate return, which he did, and followed through with the necessary work. One keypad was not programmable, and the remote door openers could not be programmed for the third door. Shortly after returning to my home state, I received a call from a neighbor that at least one garage door was open. This happened several times. Smokey's came to check out the situation which is still not resolved. They did fix one programmable keypad by replacement of batteries( the new ones I purchased and installed while I was in town must have been "bad"). On the advice of my realtor agent, I called Smokey's again to look at the garage door that keeps opening, and upon doing so was told that if it were under warranty (30 days) as a professional and he would honor that warranty and come out, and if not, he preferred I just work with another company. When I told him the date (within 30 days of the original work), he said, " Oh, s***."(Certainly not professional!) I told him I could not believe what he just said, and that I no longer wanted to work with them. I believe this was a totally unfortunate situation as I had good recommendations. But from the time the young man attempted to do work he was not trained to do, to the billing discussion, to the remaining problems, and finally the cussing, I am totally unhappy with this company.
Description of Work: Service to 3 bay garage with separate doors in recently purchased house. Checked door tension, safety stops, programmed doors, door openers and outside keypads. Not sure what else may have been done.

A service tech was sent out the same day I called for service on my garage door. Door was very noisy and rough running. The tech showed me the problem, a worn out bearing with metal dust, before he began the repair. He even asked if I wanted to keep the old part to show to my husband. One of the two light sockets in the motor housing had been burned out for some time. He said that was an easy and inexpensive fix... a $10 part. He then adjusted, tested and lubed the door. Door runs as if new! We have used Smokey's is the past. We have always found this company to be reliable and honest.

Smokey has kept our garage door working for several years. The repairman recommended replacing the coil springs, which have broken a few times over the years, while doing another repair. A few months later, one of the springs broke. No cars were in the garage at the time or there would have been damage because I found one broken section on other side of garage. The springs were replaced and it is amazing how well the door works now.

It was next day service. They called and asked if they could come by a few hours early. The technician was very polite and professional. And besides the quick diagnosis and tightening of the springs, he gave me a detailed in service on how to properly lubricate all the parts and how often to do it. Friendly and upbeat despite the HOT conditions in a garage in July in Glendale, AZ.

Job 1: Our house is 23 years old, and the garage door is the original with those big coils that are rather scary. Smokey II's has been doing repairs on the door for a number of years, at least 15. They have replaced both coils and saved me from having to buy a new opener when another retail store claimed they did not have parts for it. Their doors were starting to pull apart because of the stresses from raising and lowering. My door is still in excellent shape, particularly after the recent repairs. Job 2: The guy had the old pulleys, springs et all removed, and the new system installed in less than an hour. The cost was just a bit more expensive than replacing the broken spring. It was well worth the money. The rollers I had replaced during the Aug. 17 call work even better with the new system.
Description of Work: Job 1: Replaced 2 pulleys, a cable & rollers on garage door. 1 of the pulleys was falling apart, & the cable, which I found was beginning to fray, was slipping off it when the door was raised. The field guy found the ball bearings were shot in the other pulley. He recommended replacing the rollers, which didn't have bearings & were still original equipment on the door. The door now works smoothly.($220.)Job 2: When they fixed my door in Aug. he warned me about the big springs that raise & lower the door & recommended switching to another system if one of the springs broke. Zap! It did. Just 2 wks later. When I came home from work the door wouldn't go up. I had to come through the front door to get in the garage. I called Smokey's & a guy came out the next day to install the new system, which is a bar with 2 springs that is attached above the door. The door really works nice now.($320.)
