Response from Sprinkler Doctors
This customer called and wanted a price to run a new PVC water line from the front right corner of his house to the back left corner of his house to feed his sprinkler valves in the backyard. We initially spoke on the phone and I took a look at the house on google maps. He gave me all the info I needed and I gave him a "ballpark" price over the phone. He thought the price was high for the work that needed to be done. He has a concrete pad that is poured behind his gate to the backyard from the fence to the house. I told him we could either surface mount the PVC pipe along the bottom of the house onto the stem wall to run it along that side (which was a shorter more direct route to the valves on the back left) and then bury it once we hit dirt past the concrete. The other option was to run it through the front yard under the driveway but have it buried which would have been more work but esthetically look better (because it's all underground). He requested that I come out and give him a free quote which I agreed to do a few days later. While in route to his house, I called him to let him know I was on my way. I knew he wouldn't be home due to work, but he said I could take a look and get some measurements without him there. We typically call in route, just to keep good communication with the customer. During that call he had asked me to check his backyard near his patio for a leak he thought he had. I told him I would be happy to do so. Upon arrival I took my measurements and looked at the property for the work he wanted quoted. After which I turned his system on and ran through the valves in the backyard to try and locate the leak. Upon locating the leak, I dug it up to see exactly what was going on. There was a split pipe that was leaking with the drip system. I called the customer to let him know what I found and he asked me to fix it. I told him I would be happy to do so and told him the cost of the repairs (parts and extra time digging and then cleaning up) would amount to $20. He was shocked that it was going to be so expensive. It told him if he preferred I would leave it un-buried and he could pick up the parts at Home Depot and make the repair himself, and I wouldn't charge him anything. He later agreed to have me make the repair and paid me with a card over the phone. While on the phone, I told him that the price for running the new line was going to be between $500-$600 like I had quoted him earlier over the phone the first time we spoke. I told him if he wanted to proceed to give us a call. I emailed him a receipt for the work we completed ($20) that day. And never heard from him again. He was very nice on the phone and while I was at his property. I'm not sure why he is upset or angry with us. We would have been happy to work with him, just never heard back from him. I do feel the comments in his review were not accurate. Have a great day.
