Dad's Painting

This is a review for My Dad?s Painting Co., run by Charles Rattigan, who is also known under the following aliases and contacts: Dad?s House Painting Co.Dad?s Stucco Painting PlusDad?s 24 Hour Painting ServiceEast Valley Stucco and Lath480-239-3363480-371-0777480-650-5622www.dadspaintingco.comgreatpaintjobs@aol.comdadspaintingco@aol.comdadspaintingco@gmail.com I initially contacted Charles at the end of 2011 to paint the interior walls, handrails and various niches of a newly purchased home. Charles provided an estimate for the work for which I agreed to pay a 50% down payment he required to start the work. However, after paying him the down payment but prior to starting the work, my home incurred water damage that required his work to be postponed. During the assessment and subsequent repair work from our insurance company it was determined that a lot of the paint work originally slated to be done by Charles was no longer needed as it would be covered under the insurance repair work. I called Charles and explained to him my situation and advised him that a lot of the original paint job work was no longer needed; in fact, what was left over would end up being less then the original down payment. I gave Charles the option to either: cancel the whole job and return the down payment or if he wanted to, he could complete what was left over and provide a partial refund of the original down payment. Charles chose to complete what was left over to paint in the home and we both agreed that the refund amount would equate to about $970, which he would write a check for when the paint job was completed. Unfortunately, this where things started not to work out. After various postponements to start the paint job, it was finally finished in mid February of 2012 after taking two separate days to complete. However after the paint job was completed, the agreed upon refund check was not provided, and the paint job itself was mediocre at best. The job required some work and touchups on my part to fully finish the job. When I asked Charles about the missing refund, he stated that he wasn?t able to write me a check that week as promised, but he should be able to do so by the next week. I agreed and gave him the week. After the week had passed, I once again contacted Charles and asked him about refunding me my money, and Charles once again said he needed more time. I contacted Charles over and over again for the next 6 months to request my money back but Charles would continually give me various excuses for why he couldn?t pay me, despite assuring me that he wanted to make things right with me. Unfortunately, after six months of attempting to collect what was owed to me, I simply came to the conclusion that I wasn?t going to ever see my money again and Charles essentially robbed me. I would NOT recommend Charles Rattigan from My Dad?s Painting (or any of his various Companies) to provide any type of home services based on my experience above. If for some reason you still feel compelled to hire him (there are plenty of other qualified painters out there) I would suggest at the minimum, do not make or agree to make any payments until the contracted job is fully completed to your satisfaction.
