Jonathan and his crew did an amazing job. They arrived right on time and worked the entire 8 hours. Jonathan is very friendly and ensured that his crew were painting the way he wanted the job done. He cut in the ceilings by hand with precision - awesome straight line against the ceiling without getting a drop of paint on the ceiling! The crew applied two coats of paint around the areas that were painted (Formal Living Room and Kitchen/Family Room area), ensuring proper coverage of paint and excellent results. Upon completion of painting, the crew did a complete clean-up, to include using an industrial vacuum to clean the Formal Living Room carpet! I was so pleased with the results and work ethic of Jonathan and his crew that I hired them again to complete more paint jobs for us - (Stairwell, Upstairs Hallway and Loft) - I used to think I could just paint my own house, but after having Pearl come in and paint, I don't think I will ever paint again! The results are amazing and it is so nice to not have to prep, paint, and clean up! Overall, I would recommend this Painting company to everyone who is interested in having their homes painted with precision, in a timely manner, and with friendly service.

The painter did a good job and I want to say that I would hire them again but truthfully it was a bit funny that they went to the wrong address. In the future it would be good if the company checked the address instead of assuming they know based on records.

Jonathan came to my house in June to assess the kitchen and to look at the other rooms I was hoping to have painted. I knew that those rooms would not be part of the coupon I purchased through Angie's List. At that time, I asked about the paint for the kitchen and he told me to get two gallons of eggshell or semi gloss and one gallon of flat. I subsequently communicated with Jonathan and Rosanne (his office coordinator/wife) via email to schedule the dates for painting the three rooms (9/1913 and 9/20/13). I wanted to make sure I had everything in order. They responded promptly to the emails. I had scheduled two days off of work to be available for his painter(s). I had clearly communicated in emails that I knew the amount of time required for the job would far exceed the coupon, and I was prepared to pay any additional amount. I also asked about the preferred payment (cash or check) to make sure I had the right stuff. I confirmed via email that they would prep / clean the walls because the walls were dirty after years of life. (The Pearl Painting website mentions "cleaning" as part of the prep.) Jonathan stated in an email that such things are considered part of the scheduled time. I followed Jonathan's instructions to purchase the paint. It definitely helped that he provided his contact number so that we can receive the lower price. The guys at Dunn Edwards were surprised that the painter did not provide me with specifics as to how much to purchase for the other two rooms. I explained to them that Jonathan had said the sales rep would help me with the calculations. They were not able to help as much as I had hoped. I thought the painter would apply two coats of paint. (This is based on the Pearl Painting website.) The painters only applied one coat. Hence, I have a lot of extra paint. (The rating for price is "good" because even Jonathan's guide for the kitchen was too much - they only used 1 gallon of semi and 1/2 gallon of flat) When the painters arrived on 9/19/13, they reviewed the rooms. One of the painters exclaimed, "I do not see how we will get this done in eight hours." I was shocked since I did not know they were on a time crunch. I had scheduled two days with the explicit instructions in multiple emails that I was willing to pay. When I asked them about cleaning the walls prior to painting, they were surprised by that request. They had never heard of cleaning the walls. They said that it takes time to dry after cleaning the walls so the job could be delayed. I only had two days off from work so I chose not to pursue the discrepancy. I contacted Jonathan on the phone to review the fact that two days (9/19 and 9/20) had been scheduled with Rosanne several weeks ago. After our conversation, I also found out that the painters did not have some supplies. The lead painter (Ken) said he wish he would have "come more prepared"; he had driven one of the Pearl Painting vans. He mentioned that he was told nothing about this job. I provided them with rolls of blue painters tape to assist in the process and offered to get them anything else that would make the job a success. A decision was made later in the morning by Jonathan (via a phone call to his painters) that they would be scheduled to come a second day to complete the job. I left a voice mail on Jonathan's phone asking how much to make the check out for. He called the lead painter (Ken) and told Ken the amount. I paid them the amount at the end of the first day. Things seemed to be going well on the second day (9/20/13). They arrived at 7:35 am. The lead painter (Ken) drove his own truck to ensure he had more supplies (I personally would think a Pearl Painting van would be well supplied). I bought them lunch to provide some sort of support. However, before 3:30 pm, the other painter (Michael) was preparing to leave. There was still some painting to get done. Ken was trying to finish the final painting. According to Ken, Jonathan wants them to leave when the eight hours are up (lets "assume" no time was taken for lunch or breaks, etc.) Even though he did not want to follow that protocol, it was evident he was rushing. I was shocked since I had never put a time limit on the work and I was willing to pay for whatever time was necessary. I was also upset because I had told Jonathan and Rosanne in an email that I had injured my wrist and was unable to do any heavy moving. The guys had moved some heavy things into the center of the two rooms, and I had to ask Michael, who was eager to leave, to help me move some stuff. Why did I have to ask? Three hours after they left, I discovered that they had pushed my refrigerator back so far that the plug was bent. One prong was in the outlet, the other was out. My fridge had no electricity. Fortunately, I discovered it after three hours instead of ten. There was paint on the floor and the natural woodwork. The next day I discovered that my sliding glass door was painted shut. I tried to use a putty knife along the seams (recommended on "this old house" You Tube video ) but it did not work for me. At that time, I reached my quota. I left a message for Jonathan because I was very concerned about the door. I stated in the message that I did not expect a callback until Monday since I knew it was the weekend. Rosanne took the time to respond via email that same night indicating she would notify Jonathan of my concerns. This was genuinely appreciated. In the process of scheduling a time to fix the sliding door, Rosanne mentioned in an email that, "the painters recommended that the door not be painted because this might happen." That is an outright lie. This is a door I need to be able to open for various reasons. The paint was old and discolored and it needed to be painted. Jonathan came today (9/28/13) to assess the door and he quickly opened it up. He said "I knew it would be easy." He also said, "the painters told you this might happen." He was so busy that he had a "driver" outside keeping his truck running while he quickly fixed the door.. No time to ask me about the work, my satisfaction, etc. (The Pearl Painting website notes "satisfaction guaranteed."). He does not care about the customer. At the start of the job, one of his painters described Jonathan as a "scatterbrain". At the end of the job, the other painter mentioned that he does not have integrity. And please note...one of these guys also told Jonathan and Rosanne that they recommended to me that the sliding door not be painted since it may alter its ability to open. Integrity and honesty are my guiding lights for choosing services. Hence, I would never consider hiring this company again, and I will make a point to share this opinion with anyone who asks.

It would also be helpful if the office worker would have called me as I had requested, rather than communicate only through emails that would sometimes take 2 days or more to get an answer. Questions could have been asked and answered in one phone call rather than spread out over more than a week and getting incomplete answers. It was pretty frustrating. I also never received a phone call from Pearl as was stated in the contract that they would contact me within a day or two. The number I was given was the painter's and after leaving multiple voice mails describing what I was looking for, we finally talked and I was then told to go to the Pearl site and email the office, all of this unsuccessful corresponding took way too much of time I do not have and due to the circumstances stated above and the form of communication, scheduling and getting bits of information at a time was time consuming and frustrating.

Angie's List requires us to contact all consumers who purchase a big deal through their Message Center within two business days. The coupon was purchased 8/7/2013 and the customer was contacted that same day via the Message Center. I apologize for any confusion this may have caused.

I was very pleased with the work done by Pearl Painting. They were friendly and professional, and did a great job. They were very respectful of us still being in the house while work was done (kept mess to a minimum, kept equipment out of high traffic areas, turned down music when I put kids down for naps, etc). The walls surrounding our staircase are extremely tricky, and required some creative use of the ladder. They did a great job with it all.

It was OK. I wasn't thrilled. I think the gentleman owns the business and he was pretty unfriendly. He was pretty curt when I made the arrangements. It's like he didn't want to spend anymore that absolutely necessary on the phone with me. And then it took quite a while to get them in to do the painting. It was like he just didn't want to take time with me. My husband interfaced with the guy that actually came to do the painting, and he was helpful and he tried to do as much as he could. He had been required by his boss to make sure he left by a certain time, so he did as much as he could in the time allotted. We kind of had to finish up ourselves, which was OK because he was only allowed to stay for the eight hours. He really did try to do as much as could. The painting was OK. I think he was kind of rushing. I ended up having to patch up a little bit. With the Big Deal you save money, but you sacrifice quality, in my opinion. I am not a professional, so I wouldn't know how long that should take and I might have been willing to pay extra time for to do all of it and take his time. But the owner was so curt with me on the phone, he didn't even want to consider that. The one thing he did do was to tell me where I could buy the paint and get his wholesale discount. I wanted to take advantage of a good price, but at the same time I would have wanted some flexibility, but he was very hasty with me. I wasn't even given the option to discuss the price. It was just the cost of the Big Deal. The price was good. The painter was nice, friendly and helpful. The owner didn't seem eager to have my business.

Amazing Job! The painters started late due to incorrect address directions form their office, but they more than made up for it in effort and quality of their work. First off they pulled in another painter to help them complete the job in the allotted time. I had done most of prep work before they arrived so they just had to tape off and go. They were very organized and divided up the work very efficiently. Five hours later they were all done and the rooms looked amazing. Thanks Pearl Painting.

I emailed to find out what kind of paint I should purchase and got an immediate response. He was prompt and efficient and the job was well done. We had purchased and Angie's List coupon for $199 and owed that much again when it was complete, but that was explained to us up front once he saw the area to be painted. I was a little confused thinking it would be a 2 day job, but it was a 1 day job with 2 painters which was much better for us. Our plan was to purchase new hinges which he explained would likely not be available, and he was right about that we found out after a couple of trips to Home Depot and ACE hardware. But he did replace the cabinet doors using the old hinges. The doors needed some adjustments after the paint dried in order to close tightly, but that was not something he was necessarily responsible for anyway as a painter so we did not consider that a problem.

It was an Angie's List Big Deal that I purchased. It turned out fine. It wasn't quite what I expected but it was good. The painter was a good guy. The reason that I was sort of sad that it wasn't quite what I expected is that you know when you get a painter for a day, you get him with the brush and not a spray gun so that was the only thing but that was fine. The guy did a good job. It was neat and he was always friendly. He used the brush so what he could paint was limited as opposed to a spray gun. If you're doing a one day special, maybe bringing a spray gun and setting up isn't that efficient. There were no additional charges. If I had to rate him out of 10, I would say that he is about an 8. The only reason he isn't a 10 is because I wasn't 100% clear on what type of equipment he was going to come out with. The pricing was fine. It was exactly what he said. He was right on time.

Jonathan and his associate quickly sanded and re-textured 15 spots on the walls and explained as well as demonstrated how to complete the process of final blending since it was still wet when he left and painting (as well as how to insure the paint will blend properly). He provided several helpful tips. We decided we would paint it ourselves to manage costs since it applied to so many locations and just asked Jonathan to re-texture the designated spots. It only took an hour to complete with Jonathan and his associate. We are very pleased with his work, professionalism and the time he spends to explain everything. My husband and I agree, we found our painter for other future bigger jobs.

Overall the provider did a good job. I had purchased a Big Deal (painter for a day) I thought it would have been much easier to spray the stucco, but apparently a sprayer was not part of the deal so the painter had to roll everything. He did an excellent job and I am very satisfied with the result. Dave Clark was the actual painter that did the project. He was very professional, friendly, and in addition to doing a good job, he cleaned up the site very well.

I requested a painter for Friday (8/23) which was my day off, but was told by Pearl Painting that that day was not available. If I needed a Friday, it would be two months, so I took Thursday (8/22) and my wife took the entire day off. I was interested in getting a quote to do the whole job, but they just sent out a painter to start working without any time estimate. The painter was due at 8:00 am, but I received a call about 7:12 am from the owner Jonathan Duncan stating that the painter's vehicle broke down and he wouldn't be able to make it with no apology given. I found this hard to believe, and I'm not sure why that would kill the whole day. Anyway, Jonathan was remarkably able to schedule this painter for the next day, Friday, the original day requested. The painter did a decent job for a decent price, but only got about half of the job done. Against my better judgment, I gave Pearl Painting another chance to finish the job at the same hourly rate offered, but was told the new special is $100 higher than the previous deal. The job was finished by another company who was willing to do the job for the original discounted quote.

He was very hard to get a hold of; he didn’t contact me within the required 48 hours. I wasn't concerned because I knew he'd be busy. When I did speak with him, I got a quote for more work – I wanted my ceiling painted too. He kept telling me that his wife would be calling me to schedule. I didn’t hear from her. I called them, left some messages, and I finally did let him know that I wouldn’t be ready for a while to do my ceiling - I wanted my kitchen and bathrooms done first. Well, he called me last night, and issued me an ultimatum: he would fulfill the Big Deal for my kitchen & bathroom tomorrow only if I’ll sign a contract to do the ceiling. I told him that I wanted to wait, and he said his wife would call me back. At this point, though, with his rude attitude, I don’t want to deal with him any longer.

Response from Pearl Painting
Per the Angie's List requirements I messaged/emailed the client on August 2, 2013, the same day she purchased the coupon. She did not reply back until August 8th, requesting we contact her via phone. My wife called her and scheduled her for a bid on some extra work she wanted done that was above and beyond the coupon she purchased. I provided a free estimate for some popcorn ceiling removal and she stated she would get back to me. She contacted us August 27th that she was ready to schedule the work as she was going to have her ceiling fans replaced and wanted the ceilings done prior to that. I informed her we just had a cancellation and I could come by tomorrow to do the coupon and sign the contract for the additional work. She then told me she changed her mind and only wanted the coupon done and that tomorrow wouldn't work for her, so I told her to email us when she was ready to schedule.

We have only wonderful things to say about our experience with Jonathan Duncan and his crew. They showed up on time, worked diligently each day, consulted with us to be certain they were doing exactly what we wanted, made suggestions and provided us with an outstanding, quality paint job. I'd say that they cleaned up after themselves but they were so neat and tidy that aside from picking up their drop cloths and removing the tape strips, I don't think that there was anything else to clean up! The crew was professional and a delight to have working in our home. Now we are spoiled and won't ever be able to consider thinking about hiring any other painting professionals - we are very fortunate to have had the best from the get-go!

Jonathan Duncan and his Pearl Painting team have completed contracted services for painting of our entire Fountain Hills condo, which included a unique drywall treatment on a common wall. The quality of their work is remarkable. Most impressive is the professional, courteous, flexible and efficient work of every member of the team. Specifically, the coordination of multiple painters on focused tasks with each caring for our possessions as though they were their own deserves accolades. We attest Pearl Painting is worthy of Angie?s List highest ranking in every category!

We are do-it-yourself kind of people but the thought of climbing a ladder or renting scaffolding to paint our great room with 18 foot ceilings was not appealing. I came across a deal for 8 hours of painting for $249. I contacted the company prior to purchasing the deal to see if they would be available on a day that I would be off work. After receiving a quick response back that they could accommodate my schedule, I purchased the deal. I emailed the company once again to let them know that I had purchased the deal and to confirm my date. I also informed them of the height of my ceiling so they could be sure to bring appropriate equipment. I was a bit nervous as the day approached because I had not heard from anyone to confirm they were coming (the date was booked a few weeks in advance). However, the worked showed up as scheduled. I showed him the room that was to be painted and told him that I was aware I only had 8 hours worth of his time and so my priority was for him to paint from the ceiling down to at least the 12' height and I could always do the rest if time ran out. It was at this point he asked if I had a ladder. I had made it clear that I had tall ceilings and expected that they would bring the ladder. I got the ladder out of my garage and we extended it as far as it would go and it fell short. Well, that's what I thought. Somehow, he climbed the ladder with the bucket of paint and started painting. I was too afraid to watch! They use a different painting technique near the ceiling than what I was used to. They paint to within an inch of the ceiling to get a more crisp line and avoid getting paint on the ceiling. I was not aware of this until he was several feet into painting the width of the room. Because I had already painted some other areas of the house using the traditional method, it didn't look right to me and I asked if he could paint all the way to the ceiling as I had done so that it would match. Without complaint, he climbed back up the ladder and painted to my liking. He was very polite and professional. He wasn't quite able to finish the entire room in the 8 hour time span, but he was able to get 95% of the room complete and the work I was left to do was within my reach.

Jon showed up on time and worked through the initial order: removing drywall and patching some drywall issues. We were so impressed with his work that we asked him to tile our kitchen backsplash. He did an outstanding job and even worked on the 4th of July to complete the work by the requested date. I cannot say enough about how professional and thorough he was with our work.
Description of Work: Jon did a great job removing old wallpaper, fixing drywall, and hanging a tile backsplash in our kitchen. He was on time, on budget, and went above and beyond to make sure we were satisfied. I highly recommend him.

When I first wrote the review there were some concerns about dripped paint and outdoor trim not correctly reinstalled I have to say that the owner of the company contacted me about fixing the problems I had and came personally to make the job right. As a business owner myself I know the value of customer service and following through with corrective actions whenever possible to maintain a healthy relationship with our customers. If the company fixes a problem and follows through with customer service, as Pearl Painting did, it should be noted. I appreciated the response and problem solving. I would use this company again for painting jobs. The owner of Pearl Painting should be credited with following through with customer service! Thank you!
