We felt like he was charging too much, and we were going to get less home than we hoped for, but hired him to begin when other builders didn't check out. Then, we talked to some friends who agreed---he was charging too much. We decided to let him finish the drawings for the two thousand we paid, but then were surprised to learn that all our $2000 had bought us were some junk computer sketches that couldn't be used to actually build. What's more, he didn't seem to care about design and flow---I felt like he's just trying to keep the cash flow coming in to pay for the huge overhead his large construction firm demands. We paid him the last installment for his junk drawings knowing that we wouldn't go with him. We instead went with another builder in town, who for less money and besides giving us the new living room and laundry room, gave us an extra bedroom and bathroom, with amazing flow between rooms.
Description of Work: We hired Mike Furr to begin drawings for our home addition after thoroughly checking out his builder credentials and credit rating.

We are saddened and disappointed that the [members] chose to provide such a poor rating, but understand that everyone has their own reasons for doing so. The final communication that we received from them on August 29, 2009 gave us no indication that they were so unhappy with our service: “Hi Mike, We have been busy seeking wise counsel and the advice of good friends, and the overwhelming consensus is this. You would make short work of our home addition, and we trust your abilities and craftsmanship. However, for smalltime [member] homeowners like ourselves, we need to go with a smaller operation to push our dollars further. For as you know we must all do what is right and best for our families and for ourselves. We are glad that we have amply compensated you for your time, and we thank you. Best wishes, [members] The construction business in Flagstaff is quite competitive, so we were not surprised that they chose a different contractor. However, we were astonished to receive this negative review five and a half years after we had worked together. The [members] were given their initial estimates and a few rough sketches at no charge. During the eight weeks that we worked through all of their requests, they were provided with multiple estimates, options, and drawings (8 in all). We are not sure what else we could have done to satisfy them. We are a small company that has benefited by our wonderful craftsman, knowledgeable staff, and excellent reputation in Flagstaff. We take great pride in customer satisfaction, and work very hard to keep our clients happy, knowledgeable, and apprised of what to expect and how much things cost. Our 35+ years in business have taught us that honesty and integrity are paramount.

Description of Work: Mike Furr Construction is a fantastic, well-run company. Mike and his crew are unfailingly polite, punctual, professional, knowledgeable, and talented. They maintain an immaculately clean job site -- vacuuming at the end of every day, for instance -- we were comfortable staying in our house throughout the entire duration of our addition. He keeps his crews on task and pleasant to be around -- no smoking, drinking, or swearing happened on our job site. Mike Furr Construction isn't the cheapest option out there -- they weren't the lowest bidder for our project -- but the quality of the construction and the detail in their craftsmanship exceeded our expectations. I would (and have), wholeheartedly and without reservation, recommend Mike Furr Construction for any project, big or small.
