Kyle came with his Hunter Douglas Roman Shade and Honeycomb books. This enabled me to touch and see how the various materials would look in the bedroom. I used to sell blinds myself, so was aware of all the different options available, as well as the intricacies. Kyle was promt and professional and was extremely patient with me. I have expensive taste, so opted for the Roman Blinds. He worked up the price and got back in touch with me the next day. Well...my pocket book didn't agree with my taste. Kyle came back out with the Honeycomb books, wherein I made my decision. Kyle measured properly (a huge and important factor) and earlier than expected, I rec'd a call from Pat whom said my blinds just arrived. We scheduled installation. Jim was right on time, very nice gentleman, even helped me with a refrigerator challenge I was having. Installed the blinds perfectly, and I'm now a very happy camper. I realize Main Place does much more than Hunter Douglas window coverings, and I feel assured they are just as excellent in their other capacities. Thank you Main Place and Angie's List for allowing me to give them a thumbs up so that others may feel comfortable using their services.

We first met Kyle, the estimator, on 7/31. We explained we had an estimate from another company, but they said the price could go up at installation. We needed to know the whole cost upfront, and we needed the work done asap, so we could get the condo rented. We had a prospective tenant. Kyle seemed to agree. He tried to match the estimate and get a better tile. Then there were delays, and I could not reach the person over the installers. There did not seem to be much concern, and the installers started on 8/11. One of them called me to look at the uneven flooring, and they tried to increase the price. I could not reach the Steve, the owner or manager. Finally we reached agreement after I left a Voicemail. The installers said they could not install 2 of 3 toilets because of a flange or shim issue, so I had to call a plumber. This added over $500 to the tab. Then carpet was installed on or about 8/20. We then were able to rent the condo starting in mid-October. At the same time we had carpet and tile installed at another house. We had none of these problems. Work started promptly, was done according to bid, and the toilets were put back without incident. My husband adds that we have had tile put in three other places, and we never had to hire a plumber. UPDATE 2/3/11 I just happened to check back and see this. I will start by responding to the part about the toilets. According to Main Place Flooring "Two of the bathrooms had the original 1958 plumbing connections for the commodes..." We live in the Village of Oak Creek near Sedona. My husband told me there weren't even any houses here in the 50's, then said if there were, they aren't still standing. I happened to speak to someone who moved here in the 70's. She said there were four houses here at that time. Also this installation was done in a condo, and by the way my husband had said they didn't have condominiums in the 50's either. More specifically the Wild Turkey condos were built in 1979-1981. We replaced the upstairs toilets after our purchase in 2000, probably around 5 years ago, because of the potential risk of leaks from the upper level. We would have replaced the downstairs toilet if we had had any problems. As stated before we had tile installed in two other houses in the past few years, these were built in the 70's, and the tile installers put the toilets back on their own. Also I did see the subflooring, and while it had a slight slope, I do not recall seeing any large cracks, and it didn't look "heaved" to me. And the salesperson Kyle said that he normally allows something extra in the bid for problems that arise. The fact that the representative for Main Place is so reckless with the facts in one area undermines his credibility of his entire response. If he thinks my condo was built in the 50's, perhaps he confused our property with another one where work was done.

Response from Main Place Floor and Window Fashions
A review of the records on this project reveal the following: We were given signed approval on the contract and a deposit on 8/5. We received the tile on 8/7, commenced work on 8/11, corrected a serious sub-floor problem, executed the tile installation, and then installed carpet, in a total of 15 days. There were 2 jobsite problems: First, the concrete slab was cracked and heaved. Just like the other company the member spoke with, we advise our clients that upon inspecting the condition of the concrete sub-floor, we may have to make improvements in order to deliver an installation that will last. We advise our clients of this possibility in advance by including a paragraph in our contract that reads as follows; “FLOORS TO BE INSTALLATION READY. IF FLOOR PREPARATION IS REQUIRED, IT WILL BE BILLED AT $45 PER MAN HOUR. IF SIGNIFICANT GRINDING OF CONCRETE IS REQUIRED, IT WILL BE BILLED AT THE RATE OF $100 PER MAN HOUR. MAIN PLACE WILL DISCUSS AND GET YOUR APPROVAL PRIOR TO COMMENCING FLOOR PREP ACTIVITIES” That is the exact excerpt from the contract that the member signed. She initialed the accompanying line. As an act of goodwill, we covered the entire expense to improve the condition of the concrete. We paid our Technician for the labor hours and paid for the cost of floor compound materials to smooth the surface at an out-of-pocket expense of $443. Common to a tile flooring installation is the removal and replacement of commodes. Sometimes plumbing connections can be very old, brittle, and in need of replacement. We are not licensed or qualified to select or install new plumbing parts, so we include the following paragraph in our contracts: “Note: Sometimes installation of tile involves disconnection and connection of plumbing fixtures. Main Place will make every effort to reconnect plumbing lines. If new parts or skilled labor is required, customer will need to secure a professional plumber at their expense”. That is the exact excerpt from the contract that the member signed. Two of the bathrooms had the original 1958 plumbing connections for the commodes. It was determined that the connections could not be re-used. We did the responsible thing by recommending the members utilize the services of a professional plumber. The alternative could be a plumbing leak in an upstairs bathroom in a rental unit that was unoccupied. We do hundreds of flooring jobs every year and have since 1983. We are a licensed contractor with an impeccable record and will always do things “by the book” of the Arizona Registrar of Contractors. I invite anyone to view our documentation on this project at any time or to review our standing with the Arizona Registrar of Contractors. Review of our historical record can be done through the AZ ROC website at www.azroc.gov We know we handled this job in a responsible manner and would make the same decisions again, based on the same set of conditions.

First met Kyle, the estimator, on 7/30. Advised we had an estimate from another company, but it was subject to change after starting the work, and we needed to know the cost upfront. He agreed and seemed to try to match the estimate with a better tile. We advised we needed the job done asap, as we needed to rent the condo. He seemed to understand. We had a tentative tenant who had given notice. We ordered the tile and then had a couple of delays, trouble reaching the person over the installers. so the work did not start till 8/11. Lost the tenant. Carpet was installed approximately 8/20, so we missed out on anyone wanting to rent 9/1. When the installers cleared the old carpet, they called me to come see the uneven flooring, and Main Place tried to increase the price. I could not reach Steve, the owner or manager. We reached agreement after I left a message on his Voicemail. Then the installers said they could not put 2 of 3 toilets back in place-something about the flange and a shim. I had to call a plumber who had been reasonable in the past. This cost another $500. We finally rented the condo on 10/1. At the same time we ordered tile and carpet for another house, and we had none of these problems. Cost was fair and according to estimate, installation followed quickly, and toilets put back in place without problems. My husband adds that we have had tile put in 3 other times and never had to have a plumber replace the toilets.
Description of Work: Remove some of the flooring. Install tile in living/dining area, kitchen, hall, and 21/2 baths. Install carpet in two bedrooms and hallway
