CDC Pools Inc

Pool and Spa Service, Ceramic Tile, Decks and Porches,

About us

CDC Pool Remodeling Specialists was born in 1990 when Roger and Chris teamed up to solve a problem they saw in the Arizona pool market. We’re different than most pool contractors you’ll see: We use our own interior pool surface, tile and plumbing crews. Many contractors sub this work out. We don’t. Because pool remodeling is different than new pool construction (the main business of most of the pool companies you’ll talk to). Pool remodeling is full of surprises. There are dozens of things we uncover on each job that require experience to recognize and a commitment to quality to do the right thing. We have more superintendents in the field than contractors twice our size. Why? Again, the nature of remodeling AND our owners’ commitment to quality. This is construction, things go wrong and we’re not perfect. But we do our best to put experienced crews we control on the job and put experienced, committed superintendents on each job. You’ll meet the super who runs your project. Our owners are in the field. Chris built custom homes and pools. Roger came from the service and retail side of the pool business. One of them is in just about every backyard. We think this makes a difference. Ask around, we think you’ll agree. License #121372. . really unhappy with this company here's why: - The tile that was installed is unglazed and water penetrates as well as wicks up above the water line. This means that it evaporates and with the very hard water in our area leaves ugly deposits. Due to the finish on the tile the only way to clean it is to get it bead blasted, which keeps it nice looking for about 3 months (chemical clean discolors the tile). The kicker on this is that the issues are well know n by the company, but there was no discussion about this during our purchase and they STILL SELL this type of tile, - We had pebble tech installed and the team that was assigned to do the acid wash prior to filling the pool showed up after dark and my family was out there with lights for several hours trying to make sure that they did as good a job as possible. The results was a splotchy appearance in many areas. When we reported this, the supervisor for this team said that was normal and that we should be happy with the way it looked. The main problem was that we did not tell them to go away and come back the next day. - the tile that was installed started coming off in the spa area after 2 years. They did repair. - The biggest expense was on the patio and pool surround area. CDC does not have their own crew for this and uses subcontractors. We had problems with cracking and peeling of the surface every where and every time we called in with an issue, they tried to get us to contact the subcontractor directly which we refused to do since OUR contract was with CDC. When the subcontractor finally went out of business, CDC told us there was nothing more they would do. This was particularly insulting when we found out that the CDC marks up the subcontractor's fee a lot. We have since contracted with another company to come in and remove the original work and redo (with several enhancements) for about 60% of what we paid CDC. Sorry for the long post but I wanted to be thorough...

CDC gave us a start date and showed to do the demo. Once demo and plumbing were completed we had to get the paver company to come in and install new coping and our patio. CDC showed promptly when that was completed to finish the inside of the pool. They were great to work with.

We picked CDC pools primarily due to them having their own crews. We must have ignored the negative comments about them and thought that if we properly outlined our requirements, things would go smoothly. From the first day that reconstruction began, it was obvious that those requirements communicated to the salesman, site supervisor, and construction superintendent would go totally ignored. Through out the project, we would be the supervision, and if we didn't complain about the problem, it would not have been fixed or found. We gave them an F for professionalism because after sending a letter to the president, Chris Jones, detailing our complaints and asking to review the project with him, our request was totally ignored. This company also goes by the name of wedoyourpool.com. We advise anyone to try a different company.
Description of Work: In addition to having our pool replastered with generic pebble tec, we had tile added to our negative edge, negative edge sump, and water line. We also replaced a 20ft section of roll beam with flagstone.

I wasn't real happy with them. I told them when they came out to look at the pool that I knew nothing about pools. They told us everything that needed to be done so we gave them the go ahead. They drained the pool and they then decided that we owed them anotheer $2500 for other work that needed to be done. I felt like since they were the experts and they at least coud have warned me of what else could have been wrong. They sent their sales people out and they told us that if they told people everything that could be wrong then nobody would hire us. I thought that was a fine statement. So we ended up paying $15000 on a $12000 bid. I think their work is good, but their public relations is lousy. However, we are beginning to have issues with the pool now. They put in an automatic water leveler and we almost lost the pump yesterday because the water got too low. That apparently isn't working right. I did call them yesterday after hours and they called me back this morning and said they would send out someone out, but they would call and let me know when. Meanwhile, I don't know what is happeneding with the pool because the house isn't finished yet so I'm not living in it. I have to drive 45 minutes each time to get there. I don't know what the prices should be for this type of thing so I couldn't really rate it. I would not use them again based on how things went down with this bad experience.

The work was very consistent with estimates given. I was kept well informed of progress as the work was done, including updates when I was out of town on business. As a result of my schedule, the work was carried out almost entirely in my absence and without any "supervision" on my part. This was a necessary but expensive undertaking and I frankly don't know if the price was great or just competitive. However, CDC provided excellent service and quality of workmanship. I am very pleased with the results and would use them again without hesitation.

For a pebble surface pool, their price was about 15% less than the nearest competitor. We had about 10 estimates either in home or over the phone. The work was supposed to be complete in a 2 week period. In the end it was over a 6 week ordeal. The pool looks great, but this took time, numerous calls, and several additional visits. I'd use them again, but you MUST stay on top of this company every step of the way. Remember, the loudest wheel gets the grease, and in my experience, you will have to complain loudly.

The work they did was unbelievable. We called around for estimates and they had the best pricing. There was a small issue with the pool s starter which they solved after a few phone calls. The re-plaster work came with a ten year guarantee.
Description of Work: CDC's Pool re-plastered our 18,000 gallon pool. They started this process by using a jackhammer. They also used pales and hauled away all of the plaster. This took them about three hours to complete. They returned the next day to re-plaster our pool.

Overall, the experience was a positive one, but delays in construction were frustrating. Sales team (Jim and Chris) were very responsive and helpful. Always there to answer questions. Our job foreperson (Maria) was often difficult to track down and did not return phone calls. Construction delays were the only negative. Progress seemed to be slowed by miscommunication on the operations side of the company. One post completion repair was handled very timely. Billing team was quite efficient and helpful (kept credit card on file and notified us of when they would need to bill.) In the end we couldn't be happier with the finished project.

Initially, CDC was very prompt & high contact. The company would call me the day before they sent people out to work, calling me when they were on their way to my house, & telling me when they would be returning to follow up on that task. That was true for the pool drain, plaster chip out, & auto leveler. But once the auto leveler was installed faulty, everything fell apart. The auto leveler was leaking immediately after install & required several follow up phone calls on my part. It took 3 weeks for CDC to get someone out to my house to fix the leak. During those 3 weeks, the only thing that happened at my house was the deck & patio refinished - which was contracted out (looks fabulous!). After 2 weeks of nothing happening, on 5/10, I called CDC to ask if they were going to plaster by the promised completion date, 5/12. The next day, my pool was plastered & filling w/ water. I waited 4 more days for the set up (eyelets for return) & chemicals. Key to happiness w/ CDC: follow up!
Description of Work: Justin/CDC sales helped keep my project under budget ($8,000). He guided me around budget bombs like tile mosaics, water features and new equipment. He came out twice to my house, once in September 2005 when I was collecting information and once in March 2006 when I was committed. Both times, he was helpful and honest about my small budget. He came prepared and had even kept my information from September. CDC resurfaced my pool, re-tiled the waterline, installed an auto leveler, refinished the deck, and refinished the covered patio. CDC gave me samples of the materials being used like tile and concrete stamp colors.

Salesman was excellent. Two week wait until beginning of work (ok due to season). All went well until acid washing of new surface, where two inexperienced men ruined the new surface and the company decided to redo it all again--a good decision. However, the now incompleted job was turned over to their Warranty department, where scheduling the rework became a nightmare for us. There was no priority assigned, and more often than not, we never knew when the rework sessions would be accomplished. It seemed like the left hand and right hand at CDC did not communicate with each other or with us until really pushed. Complaints: no priority to complete the work, lack of communication with us, poor quality control. Credit in the form of additional extras (some tile, electrical, and polishing) given to compensate were greatly appreciated, but it took way too long to complete the work. Payment by credit card held back until work completed. This normal two week job took 9 weeks to do!!
Description of Work: The contract was to redo the pool and spa surfaces, including new tile, from the old plaster to new pebble sheen type. Work required draining the pool, chipping out the plaster and tile in the pool and adjacent spa, rebuilding the wall dam between the spa and pool, adding new tile, adding new pebble surface, acid washing the new surface to remove imperfections and bring out the pebble surface, cleaning up the entire area, and refilling the pool and spa upon completion. Pool surfacing had to be done twice due to poor acid washing application (required complete chipout and redo). Tile around spa had to be redone 3 times due to leaks between pool and spa. Spa resurfacing had to be redone including chipout. Cleanup was fair.

The rep who did the estimate gave a concise and informed look at what we were to get and somewhat, what to expect on a timetable. Their bid was comparable and in some cases, lower than the other bids we had from other Angie's List companies. As all too often happens, the subcontractors trying to meet the time promises, were sometimes a problem, and the responses to phone calls could have been a bit more rapid. However, when they did come, they did excellent work, and could be counted on to clean up completely. I would be comfortable recommending this company to others.
Description of Work: The company put down decorative paving stones to extend the patio area surrounding my pool. They also resurfaced my plaster pool with pebbletec, installed a new sand filter and did a startup on the pool.
