Barbeques Galore

One of the burners in my BBQ grill rusted through and broke in half. This happened previously, about 4 years ago, and I replaced all the burners at that time at a cost of about $20 each. The retail clerk said that they had replacement burners, but the price was now $60/ea because the company now only made stainless steel burners (so that they wouldn't rust). When he brought the replacement burner to the counter, I looked at it and noted that it wasn't stainless steel at all, but rather cast aluminum. Hard to imagine where they get the idea that they can triple the price of something and claim it's material cost, but in reality be lowering the material and manufacturing costs. This is of a piece with my other experiences with them over the years. At one point I bought a replacement propane regulator from them for $24. The next day I found the same regulator at Harbor Freight for $6. They make good stuff -- my grill is over 10 yrs old and continues to work well -- but God help you if you need replacement parts. Unfortunately for me, my unit is a built-in, so I can't change to a cheaper unit without incurring major reconstruction costs.
