Polar Bear Heating and Air Conditioning

I could not be happier, especially the 2nd time, it was the middle of July and my AC unit went out on a Saturday. Chris got back to me Saturday night and agreed to come out the next day on a Sunday. I do not know too many service techs that would come out on a Sunday, so I am very grateful for this, and not having the beginning of my work week disrupted.

Was hearing dripping noises and concerned they might be water. Chris went up into a hot attic to make sure condensation was flowing through the drip line.

I've been really happy with them. I thought they did a good job. They were good. I've used them before.

They were very good, on time and professional. They answered all of my questions and I would use them again.

We had just purchased a house and they came out right away. He indicated that everything was in good order and that the unit had been serviced prior to us moving in. The service was great.

He mentioned that the Freon might be low and he needs to add. I thought 1 lb might be enough but it took 5lb and he never mentioned that it could be as high as 5lb and the cost per lb is $45. So, I ended up paying $240 plus $40 for the 20-point inspection. I should have simply called my home warranty company and got it over with $60 instead :-( I wish he was more upfront about how much it would cost me so that I could have made the right decision instead of spending $280.

He was exactly on time, the service went smoothly. My air conditioner needed a part, the guy had it on his truck and did the repair at the same time. Fair price, fantastic service. This guy was great and I'd recommend him to everyone who needs AC help.

They came out on time and did the work. They gave me a report and everything was fine. They told me about a potential problem that would show up in the future so I would be forewarned about it. The pricing was excellent and if I needed service, I would give them a call.

Very well. I was really pleased with his work. He was courteous and on time. He was very quick. I used the promotion from Angie's List and he said I didn't need to do that in the future for emergencies.

The service technician showed up on time and was very professional. A small issue was found that he was able to fix right away.

Chris called to let me know that he would be late for appointment due to his last job was running longer than expected. I thanked him for calling and would see him when he gets here. He then called me about 45 minutes later to let me know that he was now on his way over. When he arrived he told me what he would be doing and while he was working on the unit he found that the drain pipe was plugged. He then cleared it out and repaired the pipe to drain correctly. I was very happy with his work and would recommend Polar Bear Heating and Air Conditioning.

He said he tried to call me! I sent him my phone number a couple of time. Finally he called & sounded like I was bothering him! Very poor customer service.

Got refund. Not impressed at all.

He showed up to perform the service but told my husband that he didn't do 2-story homes. My husband thought he meant that he just didn't have a tall enough ladder with him and needed to reschedule but the guy said he didn't have a ladder tall enough. We were told that there aren't that many 2-story homes in the Phoenix area with the A/C on the roof so he just doesn't do 2-story homes. We were then instructed to request a refund and he left.

Provider came to inspect the unit promptly. He found some problems with the Rheem unit and wasn't comfortable trying to repair them without speaking to Rheem technical support. When he left it was too late and his schedule was full for the next few days so another call was scheduled for one week out. He arrived on the appointed day and time but because he hadn't been able to contact anyone at Rheem technical support (technical support for Arizona was on vacation until next Monday). He was unable to connect with a more regional tech support (calls went directly to voice mail). He was very apologetic and recommended I contact Angie's list and get a refund of the fee.

We purchased a Big Deal from the company for the air conditioner inspection, and I thought the price of the deal was reasonable. When he came out to do the work, he tried to up-sell me the entire top. I did have him replace the run capacitor while he was here; he said mine wasn't bad, but it would probably go bad soon. He charged me $129.00 including tax to do this. From my research, I found most run capacitors cost $10-$15, and it only took about 15-20 minutes to complete the work. He made a mess from the insulation in the attic and didn't clean it up. He would not leave the part he took out because he said it can shock you. The part has to be discharged before taken out of the unit or else it can shock you, but it won't shock you after being discharged so it would have been fine to leave the part. I called just to give him the opportunity to explain the extra charged to me, and I had to leave a message. He just called back, and he said he wouldn't leave the part because it could shock you. I asked for the make and model of the capacitor he put in my unit. He got really defensive at that point of the call, and he said I was trying to black mail him and he's the cheapest in the area. I did not appreciate his attitude on the phone or the fact that he wouldn't give me the part number he installed. Tax can only be charged on parts, not labor. Tax is 10% here, so I believe he overcharged me for the part and the tax. He would not cooperate and give me any information on the part he installed, so I can't determine how his price compares to other companies. From what I can tell, he overcharged me by quite a bit compared to the price of similar capacitors I found online.

Appt. was for 4:30-5pm. Cris called and said he was coming from Phoenix. Don't remember what time he actually called. Must have been about 5:45pm, before he arrived. He complained that Sun Lakes was "not in his area"; and, he didn't like it that Angieslist had scheduled my appt. Although, he said that he had another appt after me, in Queen Creek. His appearance was sloppy...his jeans were half way down his butt, and he kept pulling them up. He walked over to my air conditioning unit, with just a nut driver and a meter in his hand. He said that he didn't work on Colman units, much. (In my initial communication with the company, I told them that I had a Colman unit that was 4 yrs. old) He unscrewed the panel, and pulled it off roughly. After putting the panel back on, he left one screw laying on the ground. Went to the other side, and unscrewed another panel to inspect the fan. Spent about 5 seconds looking at it, then put the panel back on. I told him about the screw on the ground. He put it back on; but, don't think he was particularly happy that I mentioned it. Opened the 3rd panel, roughly pulled out connectors on the condenser. Said that it was registering a little low, voltage wise. Had to go get a screwdriver from his truck. Most techs bring a bucket of tools to work from. He did wash off the grill, saying that it "looked like it hadn't been done in a long time". I told him that I do wash it off regularly, however, we had just had a bad dust storm, a few days earlier. The invoice that he gave me said, "I checked the hole a/c unit and the unit is working great at this time". Note, the mispelling for the word whole. He made no mention of the condenser testing a bit under what it should be. Overall, he was totally unprofessional, sloppy dress, rough manner about him, not happy that he had to drive to my area . Felt like he did a 'rush job". Did not ask me, if I had any questions. Just wanted to "get out of there". I would NEVER use this company again. How did the company get an A+??? Since this was an Angies List referral, I expected a professional and knowledgeable service tech.

This was a very professional man with a winning personality. The owner, who came out, did not try to sell me or use scare tactics that I needed a lot of things that were not necessary, I will certainly call on the Polar Company if I need any air conditioner repairs.

It went really well. The guy came out; he was polite and nice to us. So much so that I called back and as I speak to the owner, I told him that the guy did a good job. They were quick, prompt and helpful. I told him how much I appreciated his employee and his work. I was really happy. He knows what he was doing and answered all my questions.

It turned out alright. It was nothing spectacular. The guy didn’t carry his scheduling book with him so every time his phone rang he had to go out into his truck. He got mad when I asked him how much it would cost for him to install a compressor I purchased myself off Amazon.

It was fine but the guy that came out said that he is the owner. He is not personable and he is strange. He has a strange personality. I don't think anybody should be afraid of him. Maybe he was running behind because he was late getting to my place which it did not bother me at all but he seemed very rushed. I asked him to leave a card on the sink but he just ran and left; he didn't leave the card. Maybe he is so conscious of being on time and maybe he was running late but he spent a great deal of time going over the air conditioning unit.... I was surprised because the man I had a year before didn't do anything.

It was fine and it was great. He said it was okay and it was fabulous.

When the provider arrived, I got a look inside his truck. There was almost nothing left of the car seat. It was ripped and shredded. Only the padding was showing. He also said that the truck was out of gas, and he had to fill up before he arrived. That has nothing to do with the work, but it suggests that he works with a very small margin. OK...now, Chris came out to look, and he noticed that I had a two story home, and the unit is on the roof. He said he did not have a tall enough ladder to reach the second floor. He had to leave without doing any of the work. Keep in mind that most of this neighborhood is two story, as is most of El Mirage. I have no idea if he does a good job.

Opened the panels on the unit, inspected some of the parts and overall condition. Then hosed off the unit. Nothing special.
