They came right out. It was hot during the summer. They were the only ones who could come right out. They did a good job but were expensive. I found out later that I could have done the job for half the price, but the fact of the matter is that they did get the issue fixed the same day that I called. The price was probably $150 higher than it would’ve cost somewhere else. Their service was excellent, though.

Description of Work: A/C unit stopped cooling while I was out of town. Service tech came over after 5pm and in 45 minutes, told my wife we recommended a new condenser, but that he cleaned the unit and left a $450 bill. Did not explain why it was $450.

Our AC went out in the evening. Bud Anderson supposedly has a 24/7 emergency service. We called them around 9pm. They are the folks who originally installed the AC, so it made sense that they should fix it. The service tech called us back at 9:30pm. He said it was probably the capacitor and that it was a 10 minute fix. He said he'd have the secretary call us in the morning to set something up. I asked if we would definitely get it fixed the next day, he said yes, in the early afternoon. So much for a cool night (house temp. at 85 and rising). The next morning I talked to the secretary. She said that they could get to us in a week. A week!! For a 10 minute job! Because we do not have their service plan, they would not be able to come out for a week! I explained that the tech said he'd definitely be able to get to us that day, but she said she couldn't understand that. Naturally, I hung up and called another company. Who did come out right away. It was the capacitor and it did take 10 minutes to fix. We have had trouble with Bud Anderson in the past, but have always put up with it since they are the ones who installed our unit. Not anymore! I will never call them again! Making a customer wait a week, in 100+ degree temps, simply because they are not on their expensive service plan is inexcusable.
Description of Work: Wanted them to repair our AC. Went with another company instead.

In response to the member we would like to provide some facts. The member purchased and had installed a new heating and cooling system 8/28/2004. She did not have any maintenance or cleaning done (as recommended by the manufacture and our company) for 5 years. At that point she called in and asked what size her filter was and stated that she had not changed the filter for 5 years. We offered her a $49 tune up and cleaning which she accepted. The technician found the Blower dirty and recommended cleaning/replacement and a dirty evaporator coil and recommended cleaning. To our knowledge she has not had this done. Now 2 years later she calls with an issue and needs service. We have customer’s who pay memberships to have priority service. She has chosen not to do that. Our Technicians have been working around the clock in the worst heat wave ever recorded in this area to help as many customers as possible. If someone bought a new vehicle and drove it 7 years without ever having anything serviced on it and drove up to the dealer they purchased it from and demanded that they repair their car ahead of everyone else would that dealer do it? And would it be fair to all the other customers that already had appointments?

May of 2009 our A/C Fan motor went out. Call out Bud Anderson and they promptly replaced the motor for $750.00 + service call. We signed an maintenance agreement with them where they would come out and twice a year and do maintenance on the furnace and A/C units. In Jan 2010 (when the temp was in the single digits) the tech shows up and after half an hour tells us that it looks like our heat exchanger has a small crack in it. I asked to look at the part and upon inspection I said it looks more like a scratch from a tool. I also explained that I am a physicist and that if heat was leaking there should be a discoloration around the crack. I asked if he tested for leaking carbon monoxide, and he related that he does not do that and he would be condemning the system and turning off the heat. After he left, a salesman came to our house and proceeded with a high-pressure sales pitch, tying to get us to spend between $10,000-$15,000 on a new furnace and a/c. I called out the gas company (who will check for carbon monoxide for free) when they arrived they told me they could not check my system because the tech had cut the electrical wires to the furnace. He also related that when a company condemns a unit, they are only suppose to disconnect the gas line. I placed another call to Bud Anderson to come out and re-connect the electricity to the unit so the gas company could check for leaks. They responded extremely slowly and demanded that their tech be present during the test. Anyway the gas company did not detect any leaks in our around the unit. I ended up calling another heating and air company to come out and recheck the heat exchanger. He brought the fire dept out who checked for carbon monoxide leaking from the unit with a sniffer device. None was found. This new heating and air tech told me that he receives many calls like mine throughout the winter. He also said that if we wanted to replace our furnance and a/c to please let him bid on it. He upgraded our furnance and a/c to a larger unit than we had before (3 ton unit from Trane) this March for $3,500 for both units. A far cry from the $10,000-$15,000 that Bud Anderson wanted. PLEASE, PLEASE get a second opinion before you have these guys replace anything.

Our technician of over 12 years in the HVAC industry found a failure in this heat exchanger and is known as a crack. it was found and documented with an infa-red video camera shown to the client and saved on video in the file. we do this on all heat inspections for a reason. Our clients pay us to find failure, before it becomes an issue,or health hazard. Never did he say there was carbon monoxide present. we have state of the art detectors for that. Our tech gave the client the option to have the heat exchanger replaced or look at replacement options. at this time he chose replacement and a comfort consultant was dispatched to his home. he was given options on all types of equipment. Our people just dont show up at clients homes with out being asked to do so... As far as the the unit being replaced it was the right thing to do and i am glad this gentlemen had it done because there was a failure in that heat exchanger. it was a matter of time and we found it and we are not sorry for this. The price difference is not an issue unless you are comparing apples to oranges. We have the right people, the right tools and we found the problem.

The two-man crew arrived on time and explained basically what they would be doing...remove the old air conditioning unit and install the new system and new digital thermostat. They were polite and informative and told us approximately how long it would take. When I looked at our driveway, there were boxes and parts everywhere. To my delight, when the job was completed, everything was picked up and the driveway was totallty cleaned up.The technicians explained how the new system worked; gave us all the necessary paperwork; explained and demonstrated how the new digital thermostat worked; and told us about the 10-year warranty. Best of all, they even showed us the parts in our old air conditioner that were defective. Then they asked us if we had any questions, but they were so thorough that we really didn't have any. What can I say...Bud Anderson Heating and Cooling...you are the best and I can't say enough praises about your company, your technicians and your service. My husband and I would definitely recommend Bud Anderson Heating and Cooling.
Description of Work: Unfortunately, my husband is homebound so it is absolutely necessary that our heating and air system works efficiently. Our old air conditioning system was not working properly and needed to be looked at. Since there are so many heating and air companies, I didn't know which one to pick. A good friend of mine told me about Bud Anderson Heating and Air in Lowell and couldn't say enough positive comments about the technicians, the quality of the work performed and the total cost. I just had to see for myself so I called Bud Anderson Heating and Cooling. They were so courteous on the phone and made an appointment that would be convenient for me to evaluate what needed to be done. The technicians checked our system and told us that it definitely would not make it through the summer. They recommended a new air conditioning unit and gave us a price that we felt was extremely fair and honest. They further added that their General Manager, Tim Paetz would be glad to answer any questions, too. Then they explained in detail what needed to be done and approximately how long it would take. The two-man crew arrived on time; completed the entire job in one day to our satisfaction; were courteous and informative. Just like my good friend, I have nothing but praises for the services, technicians, performance and cost for the work performed by Bud Anderson Heating and Cooling.

Called Saturday 7/25/11 when old unit wasn't cooling. Ask Receptionist to put me on the list [thinking it would be several days before we would get a service call] Bud Anderson dispatched a senior tech within 11/2 hours. Tech charged unit with freon to get us through week-end . Monday unit had completely crashed [old unit] and Bud Anderson presented us with a replacement package that was fair and much superior to our present system. The Bud Anderson team installed the equipment complete that day [7/25/11] Everyone on the team was excellent. Bud Anderson even offered to temporarily install window portable air conditioning until job was complete. The Bud Anderson team recalculated house space to insure proposed unit would be adequate. The Anderson installation team [4 techs] were excellent and very knowledgeable . The Anderson staff has made followup calls to double check that everything was running great. In 50 years of home ownership this is by far the best experience I have had.

Overall I wasnt surprised in how it was handled . I would not use them if it wasnt for the fact that we are SUPPOSE To have an agreement that was astablished threw the Better Buisness Bearue between us . I am Disabled & CAN NOT aford to let people run over me like they always seem to try to do ............................. In response in the companys coments , the warranty is for the unit as promised by there salsmen before the purchase of it set forth by the BBB . the duct work was warranty for 12 months .Because the work was not done the first time for the $800.00 that was charged. plus the huge electric bills for the year I tryed telling them it wasnt right . WE were heating & cooling the crawl space under our house instead of our living space, I have the agrement on there letter head , stating what I just wrote. But I will most likley have to involve the BBB or my lawyer or both in this matter again when I have problems again..
Description of Work: The cooling fan motor locked up on our unit, we bought it from Bud Anderson, We are suppose to have a 10 year patrs & labor agreement with them. They insisted an a service call payment of App. $140.00. this was on the week end so I payed it. they didnt have the correct motor to replace it with so they replaced it with one that worked, & said they would order one. I appreciated that becuse I have health problems requring me to not be to Hot. . I called them the following work day & had to leave a message to there manager about the payment & about it being sent back to me. I left anothor message a few days later, It has been very close to 2 months now & havent heard a thing from them . I very seriusly dout if it takes that long to get a part. this is a VERY small amont of the Problems we have had since we got involved with this company near 4 years ago. I have much more I could tell you about but I m waiting to see how & if or When they will handle this first .

In response to the member's comments we would like to say that Bud Anderson H&C has done everything that we were contracted to do for the member. The charge that he mentions was reversed off his account. The 10 Year Parts & Labor Warranty is for the Ductwork we installed. The equipment has a 5 Year Parts & Labor Warranty that expires September 1, 2011. The complaint to the Better Business Bureau by the member was accepted by him and closed on February 29, 2008. We have an A+ rating with the BBB and strive to resolve all issues with our customers. We regret that we can not satisfy this member.

In response to the member's comments: Bud Anderson H&C was contacted by the customer to perform a tune-up, inspection and cleaning of her cooling unit. We have reviewed the Technician's notes and he completed all of the items listed and made 2 recommendations. He recommended that she replace the Blower Capacitor and that she install a UV Light to help control the black growth in the Air Handler. Our Technicians are responsible to inform the customer about any possible problems and the customer has the choice to remendy them or not. We feel it is better that our Technicians inform the customer and let them make a knowledgable decision.

Bud Anderson claimed our unit was broken and unsafe to operate. They offered to have a sales rep come to our house on a Sunday to offer replacement options. The rep showed up and offered to replace a downstairs and upstairs unit for just over $19,000... my home is 2500 SF. I called 2 other HVAC service providers and both looked at my unit and found no problems and deemed it safe to operate. As luck has it we know the person that the service tech for Bud Anderson visited just prior to coming to my home. The tech also claimed that persons unit was unsafe to operate claiming the exact same problem as was claimed for my unit. Unfortunatley our friend, a single mother, paid Bud Anderson over $2000 to fix / repair the unit without having a second opinion.

Response from Bud Anderson Heating & Cooling
In response to the member: We completed tune up’s on 2 systems on 1/15/2011 not 2/1/2011 (that was the last time we were there). Our Technician discovered a crack in the Heat Exchanger and according to the notes the crack was shown to the customer. I feel confident that the Comfort Advisor did not quote only one price of $19,000 to replace 2 systems because price is based on size, seer rating and warranties which there are several the customer has to choose from. The size is based on Load Calculation. But the efficiency (seer rating) is decided by the customer. If other companies looked at the Heat Exchanger and “found no problems and deemed it safe to operate” we have no way to know what methods were used to determine that and if they were trying to steer business to them. If our Technicians determine there are unsafe conditions in a unit they MUST inform the customer because it is their responsibility and liability. Regarding the “single mother” “visited just prior to coming to my home”, we have reviewed every ticket done on that Saturday 1/15/2011 (19 tickets) and there are no tickets for “over” $2,000. The highest ticket was $626 (only $292 of it was for repairs) and the average ticket for that day was $145.71.

My wife and I bought a rental house a few months ago for my mother-in-law to live in. I was out of town on business on June 15 and the AC unit stopped working after we had a bad thunderstorm that evening. We have used Bud Anderson Heating and Cooling in the past for our own home, so it was the only name my wife could remember and she called them out for service (she forgot that they did a poor job at our house the year before and didn't stand behind their work). A technician came out the next day, and realized that all that had happened was that the ciruit breaker popped due to a power surge during the storm and had to reset the box. He spent 10 minutes testing fuses to make sure everything was ok, then looked over the system and realized it was 30 years old, so he called me and spent the next 5 minutes selling me on why I should replace the AC and Furnace unit. In total, he was out at the house for 20 minutes (5 of it on the phone with me). He charged my wife $89 for a service visit and $125 to reset the breaker and test the fuses. I was appalled when I got home and saw the receipt. When we bought the home two months before, we had another company (Air Control Group) come out and do a thorough inspection of the untis, and they added refrigerant to the AC system. They spent over an hour at the house and only charged us $81. I call Bud Anderson's General Manager Tim Paetz to complain, and he wouldn't take my call. Finally, after several attempts, they had me speak to the office manager. She defended the technicians work as being "very technical and thorough" and claimed that he was at the house for 50 minutes (my wife and mother-in-law both swear it was 20 minutes). I requested that they refund the $125 since all the guy did was a basic service call. She took my request to the owners for me, and they agreed to repay only half the $125, which I find ridiculous considering all he did was flip the breaker switch. Needless to say, we'll never use Bud Anderson again. It's my opinion that they do poor work and overcharge (based on a separate experience at my own home as well........which they also wouldn't stand behind), so consumer beware!

We have been out to this clients house 3 times 1st time was 2/15/2007 we performed a $49 advertised special $98 total both furnaces, nothing wrong at that time we recommended client to join club membership to receive cleanings yearly and discounted rates. not taken 2nd visit 11/25/2009 advertised special $59 tune up $118 total both furnaces no problems at this time. We offered club membership again for discounts and annual cleanings, not taken 3rd visit 11/08/2010 Noise complaint repaired wiring on furnace $103.55 no where in the notes did the client have an issue all was well as far as we knew. Visit to the clients mother in-laws house on 6/16/2011 was a regular service call. I am Tim Paetz the general manager and when a customer calls in with a concern and asks for me i do everything possible to take care of that client and all our employees do the same. with out our clients we are nobody. i happened to be on vacation that week so i could not take the call. Our service manager handled it and and i think she was very fair. I cant apologize for our pricing it is very competitive and really when you look at the warranties and the guarantees we are on top, Our Tech Drove out to the home, performed a full diagnostic tested the breaker and performed a check on the system. Our techs make sure that they give the client all the information on there system. our GPS on that truck shows he was on location for 47 minutes, that does not include travel, Average life of an HVAC system in NW Arkansas is 12-15 years. he was letting this client know he could save allot of money in the future if he looked art upgrading the system, about a 35 to 40 % savings the system could pay for itself in 7 to 9 years depending on what system was chosen. this is the information that was shared in those five minutes. Our tech truly was concerned for the client because system was 30 years old.

The technician that came out said that my condenser was shot and that I needed to replace the system at a cost of $ 8k+. I called another vendor to get a 2nd opinion and they found that the only issue was a clogged drain line that cost me about $ 69 for the service call to fix. I will never call Bud Anderson again for service and I would strongly urge others to do the same.

They were extremely high priced. I have nothing against them. They gave me three different prices on three units and it ranged from $6000 to $9000. It was for a three and a half ton system. They had silver, gold, platinum and different levels of service. It was confusing. I just wanted a new central air conditioning with a warranty on it. They were not my type. The guy that came out here reminded me of a used car salesman. He was aggressive. They quoted me at least two days and four men to install. We wouldn’t use them again.

They were extremely professional, punctual, cleaned up so there was no sign they had even been in my yard or home and stayed late hours to finish the project each day. They always made sure I knew exactly what they were doing each step of the way. They made sure I knew how to set the new units, even though it was almost 8 pm by the time they were done on the last day.I had used them 4 years ago when the upstairs air had died in the middle of the summer with company coming from out of town. They came promptly then and got me up and running quickly so I knew I could expect that type of service again. They come every 6 months punctually to clean and service the 4 units so I am ready for whatever weather we have. I recommend them to anyone wanting top service and professionals in their home!
Description of Work: Upon the completion of a home inspection, it was necessary to replace/upgrade 2 furnaces and one ac unit. I also had duct work cleaned. They may be a little pricier than competitiors, but their products and people make it worth it. I have used them in the past to replace a unit.

They responded quickly and worked us into their schedule approximately when they said they would. The price charged us was about $30 less (we were told) than their usual fee for a service call without parts and labor. All of this seemed fair enough, however, I would not use this company again because of the pressure applied to sign up for a "gold service plan." For about $200 a year this gets you discounts, assurances of faster service, etc. But, seeing as how this was the first service call on this unit in 12 years, I couldn't see how this plan was a good deal, and really didn't want to hear about it.
Description of Work: We had this company check out a central A/C unit at a rental property that the tenants had reported was not working. Turns out there was not really anything wrong with the unit, but the technician looked it over thoroughly and checked the refrigerant pressure, etc.

Response from Bud Anderson Heating & Cooling
In response to the member: It looks like we did everything right until the Technician wanted to show you the benefits of having a Club Membership. I think that “pressure applied” was mistook for their passion to inform customers of the value in becoming a Club Member. Aside from the “discounts, assurances of faster service” as you mentioned, the ideal of spending a little to save a lot is what our Club Members believe in. By getting 2 tune up’s, cleanings and inspections per year, your Heating and Cooling units will run more efficiently, extend the life of the unit and detects small repair needs before they become big repairs, and protects your warranties. (Whether your system is 1 year old or 30 years old). Currently we have 4,344 active club members who want to protect one of their largest investments in the home.

Tech showed up quickly and was able to diagnose problem efficiently. Suggested a cost effective resolution rather than a more expensive alternative. Courteous and professional. I will be signing a long term maintenance contract with them.

We called to check the old system out because it was freezing up and not working. The old system was 16 years old and had several problems. They gave us options on how to fix the current system and new system options. We went for the LIFETIME guaranteed system. If anything ever goes wrong with the system it will be replaced at no charge. This also included 5 years of maintenance.
Description of Work: Whole new system was put in and new duct work for additional return vent and out vents.
