Hernandez Painting (Residential & Commercial)

We hired Hector Hernández of Hernández Painting to do the painting on a remodel of our dress boutique. Mr. Hernández quoted us $4800.00 for the complete job, which was to include painting of walls and ceiling as well as caulking and painting trim. Almost as soon as he was given the job he began asking for more money. By the time the job was 1/2 finished Mr. Hernández had already charged $4700.00. When my husband asked him about the overcharges we were literally whined to by a grown man about all the additional work he had to do, though nothing had been added to the original scope of work. When challenged about this, he actually came to our home, and yelled at us about the situation, and walked off the job, leaving it half complete but with all the money. It should be noted that Mr Hernández also asked us to write our checks to his wife instead of him, and to please not 1099 him for the work. Yes, we should have known we were getting into a bad situation, but we needed someone quickly and he could start immediately. Now we know why.
